Chatterbox: Down to Earth

POLITICS THREAD!!!!!!

POLITICS THREAD!!!!!!

This is a place for us to state, debate and discuss politics!  I encourage everyone to do so rationally and maturely, and would ask that all participants would refrain from abuse, even when in the heat of an argument, and that some of the more mature subjects would not be presented here. The Admins wll not publish any inappropriate comments.

However, I would discourage anyone from participating if they are easily offended, or dislike having their views challenged.

This may not be a popular idea, but I wanted to give people a chance to present their views and discuss the larger issues in our world today. I hope that this idea takes, and that it will also be enjoyable and informative! :)

I will begin by introducing a topic that is curently at large in America, but is also, I believe, appropriate for CB. I would ask the Admins to correct me if I am mistaken. :)

So-- what do you all think about the idea of including women in the military draft?

This thread is now closed for new comments.

Hey, we may not be agreeing, but I come to the politics thread to do some friendly arguing. I like debates vecaue people are supposed to argue. If you don't like to argue that's fine. :)

@Pearl

I understand that this is for friendly debating. However, what I've seen recently isn't as friendly. People cutting people down, and stuff like that.

You just summed that up way better than I did.

@ Brooklyn Newsie

Thank you. You just reminded me of all of my beliefs as a Christian, and I feel much better now. Now I remember that God has a plan, and everything will happen as He wishes. Thank you. God bless us all.

I believe you shouldn't expect God to do everything. We have to learn to care for ourselves too. God can only do part of the work. We need to mix it up with some hard work of our own or we don't deserve it.

You may not expect God to do everything, Pearl. I realize that you may believe otherwise, and I respect that, but I believe that God is indeed in charge of everything... from a distance.

It's like this: my pastor says that we, as humans, are like a toddler. We are sitting in a corner, oblivious to the world around us, and lost in our own play. We may think that we are alone, but behind us, is the parent, just watching us. Not interfering, just watching us. And in this way, the parent has total control over the toddler, and not in a bad way. And guess what? GOD IS THAT PARENT. So Pearl, I just want you to know that I believe that EVERY LITTLE DECISION, NO MATTER HOW BIG OR HOW SMALL, NO MATTER HOW GOOD OR HOW BAD, NO MATTER WHAT, IS PART OF GOD'S ULTIMATE PLAN. The plan to save this broken, broken world.

And Pearl, while we're talking about it, we don't need to do part of the work. Because no matter what we do, however hard we work, however rotten we act, God will always feel the same about us.

He will Always love us.

Forever and ever, Amen.

I do not think it is God's job to save this broken, broken world. It is our job.

It's your job.

It's my job.

It's the job of that person you can see out of the window, walking on the sidewalk.

It's your teacher's job. Your sister's. Your friend's. Your enemies'.

The world could be healed. Or it could just break even more.

You could sit back and pretend that other people, or God, are  doing the work. You could pretend that someone will someday make a change. You could laze around, knowing that something will be done.

Or you could get out there and do it.

Malala did it. She's a kid.

Why can't we?

My jaw just dropped.

God uses us as his tools, so in a sense, it is our job. But God is using us to make this world a better place.

End of story, bye-bye. (This is a quote from a movie, not intended to insult. It's actually from my favorite movie as a little kid …)

Because Brooklyn Newsie just spoke the truth! She's just 11, 12, 13, somewhere in there, and yet her statements are so profound. Way to go, Brooklyn Newsie. I think God is always in control.

I do agree with Brook, but that's besides the point.

By saying what you just said, you make it sound like God exists, but has no control or influence over your/our life. But I think he does that God knows what needs to be done, and he always has a plan. He's going to come back to earth one day.

None of us know when, except for God the Father.

And the reason why you're in our prayers? Because we'd like you to come to know Christ and feel loved by him and partake of the sacrament with us.

During the sermon at church today, I couldn't stop thinking about you.

And about the whole Malala thing? She acted of her own accord, but I think God influenced her decisions for the greater good.

I think that God is influencing your decisions even now, when you are filled with a fire to help people and do what's right.

You are in my prayers, Mei, and I pray that you will come to know God like I do.
