POLITICS THREAD!!!!!!
POLITICS THREAD!!!!!!
This is a place for us to state, debate and discuss politics! I encourage everyone to do so rationally and maturely, and would ask that all participants would refrain from abuse, even when in the heat of an argument, and that some of the more mature subjects would not be presented here. The Admins wll not publish any inappropriate comments.
However, I would discourage anyone from participating if they are easily offended, or dislike having their views challenged.
This may not be a popular idea, but I wanted to give people a chance to present their views and discuss the larger issues in our world today. I hope that this idea takes, and that it will also be enjoyable and informative! :)
I will begin by introducing a topic that is curently at large in America, but is also, I believe, appropriate for CB. I would ask the Admins to correct me if I am mistaken. :)
So-- what do you all think about the idea of including women in the military draft?
This thread is now closed for new comments.

@Admins, I posted something on here, and it isnt showing, and it's fairly long, so I wanted to ask if you know what happened to it.
We're not sure! You can try to repost it. ~Admin

I have just read this entire thread.
And I have a couple of things to say.
1. Okay, I realize this is an old topic, but "Sticks and stones can break my bones but words will never harm me?" Not true.
This is the kind of thing I say to try to get people teasing me off my back. I won't say that I've been "bullied", but I've definitely been teased and told things that hurt. Never showed it. Still painful.
2. Everyone. I UNDERSTAND that you disagree with people (personally I disagree with Pearl and Mei-Xue as well), but that is not a reason to yell at them. The great part about this being a chat forum is that in real life, you can just yell something without thinking, while here you can reread what you were going to say and respond more civilly. I think certain people were a bit too vigorous in their criticism of others' views.
3. Racism is a thing-- lots of people in my 6th grade class are racist toward the four Chinese boys in the class, sometimes even the boys themselves. YES, PEOPLE IN MY CLASS ARE SEEMINGLY RACIST TO THEMSELVES.
4. Imagine a system like this. All the surplus the rich people have is taken and redistributed to the poor. What the working class people create is used by them, the factories are owned by them. Everyone is on the same level. The workers own the means of production.
Sound familiar?
This system is called communism. It stems from Marxism and is related to socialism.
"Now Somebody," you may say, "this system doesn't sound so bad after all."
It wouldn't-- IF IT WORKED.
My parents are both immigrants from the Soviet Union. And they can say, from firsthand experience, that Marxism does not work.
It's like putting sand, water, and oil in a jar and shaking it. For a period (the revolution), the mixture is one. Then when you put the jar down, it separates again. (For more information, older Chatterboxers might want to read 1984 (some adult themes) and Animal Farm (violence) by George Orwell, though my parents say that these are actually understatements of a totalitarianistic system.)
Why am I saying all this? Two reasons.
a) The sad truth is that there will always be classes of high, middle, and low income. We can't have a perfect utopia where everyone is on the same level.
b) I think Bernie Sanders does not comprehend this.
5. Also, I think Hillary is a liar and Trump and his comb-over will not make America great again. I won't rant abot them now. However, I will mention a few posts I endorse:
-The post that reminded people (or tried) that the president does not have absolute power. There really isn't need to move to Canada, guys.
-The post that dispelled (or tried to dispell) worries about the ozone layer. This is how you argue convincingly. I'm not very skilled at it, though.
6. I will not say anything on the "God has a plan" thing for fear of offending people. However, I will say: Our last unit in history is on the five great religions (Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam), and on the ISIS/Islam thing: ISIS's version of Islam is a horribly distorted and twisted version. ISIS and people who follow the actual Islam faith are two separate communities.
This ended up a lot longer than expected. Wow. Well, thank you for your time if you fought through this post. Remember, we're all friends here, and though some of us did get a bit too passionate in this discussion, this doesn't mean we don't like each other. People's opinions and people themselves are two separate things! And wow, I need to learn to shut up. I'll do that now.

Democracy is totally not Communism! My parents fought to get away from all that, and it's the Democrats who accept them. I think that you are right that we can't have a perfect utopia. But I still think that we should give to the poor.
But I also think that we have the right to argue. Freedom of speech, people!

Well you can if you want to, but don't force everyone to donate! Donation is something that people choose to do. I'm not saying not to donate, on the contrary I myself have given money for a baby's funeral just a couple of weeks ago. It's great to give something to the needy, but nobody should be forced to do it. And nobody has said that YOU can't donate all you want.

@Mei-Xue: I'm sorry, I didn't phrase my post as well as I could have. I was in no way trying to imply that our system is communism (indeed, the US system is the very antithesis of communism! We run on capitalism! #CapitalismFTW XD), I was simply trying to say that redistribution of wealth on such a grand scale does not work in practice. The honey trap of Marxism looks great on paper, but not when implemented. I suppose I'm agreeing with Pearl in this aspect-- donation should not be forced. My mom (who as I mentioned earlier is an immigrant from the Soviet Union) always says that "In America, you're not given money. You aren't stopped from getting it."
And yes, the first amendment has it 100% right (as does the second, but I won't go into the gun debate).

No, anyone who looks different can be bullied. African Americans. Asian Americans. Muslim Americans. Native Americans. Latino Americans. Anyone.
Plus, when he was little, I don't think that they were bullied because of the "Muslims are terrorists" thing. But seriously. If they are USUALLY bullied because they think they are terrorists doesn't mean ALWAYS. USUALLY ≠ ALWAYS.

Mei, I read your comment. I always do, just sometimes I choose not to reply because I don't feel like debating further. Debating isn't really my thing, and I only argue when I'm really fired up about something. I don't feel like constantly saying the same thing over and over again without going anywhere. So yeah. Sorry.
(May 26, 2016 - 3:35 pm)
So…So you have any argument against that? Or did you change your mind?
(May 26, 2016 - 4:20 pm)
If you're saying usually does not equal always, why do you keep talking about stereotypes about whites, Asians, and hispanics?
(May 26, 2016 - 4:17 pm)
(May 26, 2016 - 8:06 pm)
You are throwing aroun stereotypes about everybody.

(May 27, 2016 - 2:45 pm)
I have NEVER seen S.E. stereotype.
(May 27, 2016 - 7:04 pm)
Of course you haven't! You're not a stalker!
(May 28, 2016 - 12:09 pm)
Thanks.
