Chatterbox: Down to Earth

POLITICS THREAD!!!!!!

POLITICS THREAD!!!!!!

This is a place for us to state, debate and discuss politics!  I encourage everyone to do so rationally and maturely, and would ask that all participants would refrain from abuse, even when in the heat of an argument, and that some of the more mature subjects would not be presented here. The Admins wll not publish any inappropriate comments.

However, I would discourage anyone from participating if they are easily offended, or dislike having their views challenged.

This may not be a popular idea, but I wanted to give people a chance to present their views and discuss the larger issues in our world today. I hope that this idea takes, and that it will also be enjoyable and informative! :)

I will begin by introducing a topic that is curently at large in America, but is also, I believe, appropriate for CB. I would ask the Admins to correct me if I am mistaken. :)

So-- what do you all think about the idea of including women in the military draft?

This thread is now closed for new comments.

Lol, is the "anyone who is easily offended" me? I love debates, and I used to be in the Debate Club at my school. I do get emotionally attached to my arguments, maybe that's why I look like this on Chatterbox. I'll try not to get offended on this thread, though, because I LIVE FOR DEBATES!!! Lol.

Um, yeah? Thee are girls who can handle the military, and those who can't. It is the same way with men. They are just or were forced to go.

I can shoot a gun.

I can survive in the wilderness.

I can run.

I can strategize.

Girls can do all these things. It shouldn't be an issue.

Exactly!

There should be NO REASON for the military to be segregated bassed on gender no more so than race!

On the topic, it is my opinion that "women's sports" and "men's sports" should not be separated. It should just be "sports".Wink

I think the government should be smaller, the Libertarion party should be bigger, Hilary Clinton should not win, and I want the first girl president to be awesome, not someone I highly disagree with, such as her. I like Ted Cruz, and I supported Rand Paul quite a lot, before he dropped out, of course. Carly Fiorina (that's her name, right?) would be a good president, but she's not doing so well. Highly disagree with Sanders and Trump, although, compared to Clinton and other popular candidates, Trump isn't the worst. But I would never vote for him. Of course, I can't vote. Kids should be able to, or at least ones like me, I know a lot about politics!

Hey ya'all! Thanks so much for participating! Meixue, no, you are not who I mean by "anyone who is easily offended." And I'm glad you like debating--I love it, but few others seem to. I wouldn't get TOO emotionally attatched to these debates, however, because then it's hard to admit when someone else has won, or it's difficult to let the case drop when it has been exhausted.

Yes, S.E., there are girls who CAN, but studies show that they can't necassarily do those things as well as men. That's not biased, that's just a general biology fact.

Personally, I do not believe that women should be included in the draft, and here's why:

For one thing, I do not personally want to be forced, against my will, to abandon my prospects of education, marriage, and family just because the government wants to launch a war without consulting it's citizens. If all America's young women are forced to join the army, there will be no new children, and no one to support the country in the army's absence.

And as I said to S.E., it has been proven over and over that women are not as fit for army life as men--again, not biased. I'm a girl myself, you know.

And the largest point of all-- I don't believe there should BE a draft. Period. Exclamation point!

They keep on talking about "re-instating" the draft-- but the draft was instated years ago. All they'd have to do is use it.  And then they insist that of course the draft is never actually going to be USED-- but then-- why on earth do we still have it? Why are we still signing up for it!

And they keep twisting it so that it seems like it's a matter of women's rights. But is it?

Do I actually have a 'right' to be FORCED into the military against my will? Does anyone have that right? More importantly-- does anyone WANT that 'right'? I sure don't.

Your thoughts?

Savvy44x, I agree with you on government size. I also believe that we should have a Free Market Economy, a small government, and be permitted to make use of our Constitutional Rights without having to fight for them.  Your thoughts, everyone?

I would like to note that you can begin on a new topic whenever you feel like it-- we can have more than one running at once. And if a debate gets very long or large, we might be able to give it it's own thread. Thanks to the Admins for allowing me to start this, and thanks to all of you for participating! :)

I know. But it annoys me because I CAN do all these things, quite well, actually. Some women can't do as well. But I can. And that's why it bothers me. Because, yeah, it may be biologiclly correct that girls aren't as strong, but there are outliers and it isn't true for everyone.

There was a counseler at a camp I went to. Her name was Storm. She's from New Zealand. She's in the army, and she was better than many of the men. She broke her heel in the first week of training. She ran on it for 5 weeks until someone found out.

Just saying.

A few things:

Carly Firorina dropped out of the race.

I love to debate, and would like to join a debate team, but my school doesn't have one.

If I could vote, I would vote for Hillary Clinton.

I find politics really intresting! (It's running our country, people!)

I'm completely HORRIFIED with what Trump is saying.

I don't think Sanders isn't that bad.

I know somebody who's also a Libertarian (don't know how to spell it, sorry).

Cool thread, Esthelle!

And, of course, I'm willing to have my mind changed on these subjects!

THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DONALD TRUMP JUST MADE ME BLOW UP!!!!

I know one trump fan. ONE. It looks like I hang out with the right people.

Yes, Trump is terrible, but just remember: Politics are in an even worse situation in some other countries such as Syria, Iran, etc... It's just that the US politics have never been in this situation before, so our reaction is in response to past experience.

I think Hillary Clinton is hardly trustworthy. That whole email crisis thing should be better investigated- Obama had to show his birth certificate for no solid reason, shouldn't we be poking into the issue of a potential president with big issues on keeping confidental information confidental?

Wait. What?  @Admins "I strongly disagree."  is not all I said.  It said a lot more.  Why isn't it there.  Also, I think that Trump and Cruz are horrible and I like Bernie Sanders so I do not disagree with not liking Trump.  I strongly agree with not liking Trump.

I think I may have deleted several statements in it that we didn't have time to check for accuracy before posting.

Honestly, I don't think any of the presidential candidates are very good. America's in big trouble.
