POLITICS THREAD!!!!!!
POLITICS THREAD!!!!!!
This is a place for us to state, debate and discuss politics! I encourage everyone to do so rationally and maturely, and would ask that all participants would refrain from abuse, even when in the heat of an argument, and that some of the more mature subjects would not be presented here. The Admins wll not publish any inappropriate comments.
However, I would discourage anyone from participating if they are easily offended, or dislike having their views challenged.
This may not be a popular idea, but I wanted to give people a chance to present their views and discuss the larger issues in our world today. I hope that this idea takes, and that it will also be enjoyable and informative! :)
I will begin by introducing a topic that is curently at large in America, but is also, I believe, appropriate for CB. I would ask the Admins to correct me if I am mistaken. :)
So-- what do you all think about the idea of including women in the military draft?
This thread is now closed for new comments.

Doesn't Ted Cruz want to build a wall?

I'm so glad you liked it, Mirax T!!!!! :D :D :D
Qi: I hadn't heard about that, I thought that was Trump's thing. But I don't doubt you-- I'm not as up-to-date as I used to be. I don't read my news as often-- it just makes me angry, and there's nothing I can do to change the country. :/
I am somewhat anxious about the presidency, but if it comes down to Trump and Clinton, it doesn't much matter who wins. I gave a long speech comparing Trump to Hitler, to try and capture why people are voting for him. Here I'm going to show the ways in which he is dissimilar to Hitler:
For one thing, he doesn't strike me as the best Military planner/ organizer. Hitler was. Second-- Hitler had practically all of Germany for him-- Trump has only part of America. Admittedly, America is a lot bigger than Germany. And the people here are different from the ones in Germany during WWII-- the Germans were angry in a war-waging way. So are the people voting for Trump (the 'Trumpites' :/ ). But those non- Trumpites of us are angry in a laugh-at-the-word sort of way. We live in America. Our freedoms, though dwindling weekly it seems, are far greater than those of the Germans in the 1900s. So WWIII may not come with Trump. Or maybe it will, and America will fall like every single other empire there's ever been on earth. I'm just going to pray, and live through it as countless others have done. :)
Admins-- please "TOP" this thread! :)

I want Vermin Supreme for president!
If you don't know who he is, look him up. He's a guy that ran for president four times who wore a boot on his head and wanted everyone to have free ponies.
Maybe better than Trump!

I fully support Bernie Sanders, partly because he is the only candidate that has really taken a stand on global warming, which is a real threat, despite what people are saying.

Hillary Clinton supports Climate Change!
(April 12, 2016 - 9:54 am)
But what do you think about his stances on the economy? Or foreign policy?
(April 12, 2016 - 3:43 pm)
Oh, Gandalf. Sure, the weather changes every day. But just because it's warmer doesn't mean that global warming is real!!!
Seriously, does anyone else see this?
(I'm sorry if I offended anyone. This is just my view, and how I see this issue)
And if America gets Clinton, Trump, or Sanders as their leader, I think it will destroy this country!
(Sorry again. I'm probably worked up cuz I'm listening to "Roundtable Rival" by Lindsey Stirling)
(April 12, 2016 - 12:25 pm)
I thihk global warming is real!!!!!! And Bernie can do something about it!!!!!
(April 12, 2016 - 5:48 pm)
No, he can't! Guess why? It doesn't exist!!!

I completely agree with Cho about "Global Warming"-- that's what they call it now, right? The last name was "Global Cooling", I think.
For one thing, although there is more carbon dioxide in the air now than there was then, it is not significant enough to impact the world's temperature much--from 1880 to 2000, the temperature has risen by only about 1.6 degrees Celsius.
And when people burn fuels, many gases besides carbon dioxide are released, some of which tend to reflect light rather than absorb it. This actually reduces the energy absorbed by the Earth. So it could be that any increase in the Greenhouse Effect due to man-produced carbon dioxide is offset by the cooling caused by other human-made chemicals.
A research team from Havard University reviewed over 240 scientific studies on global temperatures in the past, and the results indicate that that the Earth was much warmer between the 9th and 14th centuries than it is today. So the Middle Ages were warmer than modern times. Middle Age people did not drive cars!
Also, though one region of the Earth is warmer, another may be cooler. Land-based temperature measurements show a slight warming trend over the past 20 years, but they disregard the simple fact that 70% of the Earth is ocean. However, when the temperature of the entire globe is measured by satellites, no significant warming can be seen.
People who have a political agenda to push say that Earth has experienced measurable warming over the past 100 years, due to the carbon dioxide produced by people. While the first part of this statement is most certainly true, these "concerned" people simply neglect to tell their audience that most (if not all) of this warming occurred in the early 1900s, before people were burning much fuel. Thus, the Earth did warm up a bit in the past hundred years, but it was not because of rising carbon dioxide levels. That did not happen until after the warming ended.
In the end, then, if you want to make reliable statements about the Earth's temperature, you need to look at the global indicators. the best indicator is satellite temperature data, and again, they indicate no global warming. In addition, radiosonde balloons have been used to measure global temperature since 1979. These measurements also indicate no global warming. Thus, the two most reliable data scources indicate no significant warming trend since 1979. The best scientific conclusion to make, then, is that global warming is not happening, at least not in any significant way. To believe in Global Warming is to rely on the least reliable data and ignore the most reliable data. And, friends, that is NOT good scientific practice. :)

If the gases that we are pumping into the atmosphere aren't doing anything to us, then why is there a hole in the ozone layer? Why do we have those weird winters where it snows in March instead of December like it's supposed to? Why do we get so MUCH snow? Or, get too little? Why are there so many people with asthma?
The answer...
Global Warming!
(April 19, 2016 - 11:04 am)
There is no "hole in the ozone layer" and the weather can change over time very significantly. Sure, we do need to conserve energy and not pollute, but there is no global warming.
(April 19, 2016 - 12:19 pm)
Wait… There isn't? But all those false-color pictures! UV pictures! Would the scientists really fake all that, just to scare us? All that scientific evidence …
(April 19, 2016 - 8:54 pm)
Wait, your'e saying Global Warming isn't real?
Climate change is the idea that so many greenhouse gases, like C02, weaken our atmosphere. The Earth’s atmosphere protects us from too much heat and when it’s weak our climate changes, warming us up, melting the North and South poles, and changing our everyday weather. This idea is supported by 97% of publishing scientists.
