Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Triwizard Tournament RP!
I know there's...

I know there's already another HPRP going on, but this idea has been spinning around in my head for a while, and it's time to put it into action.

So this is somewhere between the time the Tournament started and the time 'the death toll mounted so high that they canceled it'. We're going to need to do a lot of inventing, since I don't think Rowling gives that much information on it. Time to get out the old copy of The Lexicon and try to look up anything related to it.

But anyway, this is before you had to be of age to enter, so you can be any age. Hogwarts is the host school since we know the most about it.

A downside is that we can only have three champions, but we can be friends, supporters, etc. We'll decide which school wins later.

Erica~

I sat pouting at the refreshment table. Spara had stormed off into the garden. Colette gave me a worried look. "Do you want me to stay wiz you?" I shook my head. "No. Go have fun with Evan. I'll be fine." She nodded and gave my hand a squeeze. "Call me eef you need me." I nodded. "I will." Evan gave me a pitying look. "I'm zorry it didn't vork out vith your date." I shrugged. "It's fine. He was always just a scumbag anyway. He only asked me out cause I was champion and Elizabeth didn't want me to get suspicious." They nodded. "Go. Have fun." Evan lead Colette out to the dance floor. Deciding that I was wasting my time around here, I got up and headed outside.

It was a cold night. Sighing, I wandered around the garden. Finally, after what seemed like ages, I found a bench and sank into it, closing my eyes.

"...will certainly be much too difficult!"

My eyes flashed open. Deciding this was a conversation I should hear, I dove into a nearby bush. The headmaster and the headmaster of Durmstag walked by.

"I don't think so. They look like smart, vell trained girls," the Durmstag headmaster was saying. "At least, I know Spara is."

"So is Erica. And I'm sure Colette is too. But honestly! I mean, the second task will be all right, but the third seems almost impossible! What will happen if one of them gets hurt?"

"They'll be fine." The Durmstag headmaster sounded confident. "It vill test their skill levels. Challenge them. Put a little faith in them, Corrus." Th headmaster mumbled something and followed him back into the great hall.

I held my breath until I was sure they were gone. What had they meant, too difficult? It was obvious they were talking about the tasks, but they were all pretty dangerous, right? Why was the headmaster so worried about the third one?

One thing was for certain; Spara, Colette and I had to do some research. Soon.

Sorry but I decided to change my post. I'm sorry. :/ I didn't like it. So it's basically the same. I wrote the part that I changed with italics. Oh and I don't have so much time so that's why I ended my post weirdly.

Colette-

Evan is one of the most handsome boys I’ve ever seen. He held his arm out and I lightly placed my hand upon it like I’d learned in etiquette class. We wanted to enter the Great Hall yet a professor dressed in a black dress, which seemed to be for a funeral, stopped us.

“Miss Colette, Mr. Evan. You must wait here until everyone else is in the Great Hall. Where are the others?” She spotted Spara and Erica and their dates and rushed off to tell them what to do. About ten minutes later, violins started to play, our cue. I smiled at Evan before we began to slowly walk into the Hall.

Icicles hung everywhere and snow fell from the ceiling. Everything glistened in a bluish light, similar to the color of my dress. An orchestra was next to the dance floor and behind them was a huge Christmas tree.

I heard sighs, whispers and whistles as we passed the students. Leila was nowhere to be seen. Ann waved at me happily and pointed at her date, a handsome Hogwarts student.

After we’d reached the dance floor, the music stopped. Evan laid his hand on my waist and gave me his hand. Then a waltz started. We swirled and twirled around the floor. He raised me into the air and students gasped however he didn’t drop me. Soon others joined us. The orchestra started a new song. I noticed Spara rushing off to the refreshment table; her date was gone.

It was only after one of the slower songs started that Evan said something.

“Have you noticed that they’re all staring at us?”

I lifted up the skirt of my dress, studying it. “Is there somezing wrong viz my dwess?”

He laughed lightly. “No. You’re perfect. But look at them.” He pointed at a couple next to us. The girl was gazing at Evan and the boy was staring at me, both not caring that they were stepping on each other’s toes.

“Do you want to go outside?”

“Von’t it be cold?”

“You can have my jacket.”

I nodded. He took my hand and led me out the doors. As we made our way outside we passed a kissing couple.

Snow covered everything. The great lake was covered in ice. A few pairs roamed around the grounds.

Evan handed me his thick fur coat, then laid his arm around my shoulders. Our feet crunched in the snow.

“Aren’t you cold?” I asked after we’d walked for a bit.

Evan’s breath made a small cloud in the air. “No, it’s much colder in Bulgaria.”

“Do you valk around vizout a jacket zere too?”

“Of course not! I would freeze to death.”

“Are you not freezing now?”

“Oh. Just a little.” He winked. Suddenly before I could say a word he kissed me. Just like that. I wasn’t ready for it and I wasn’t sure if I loved him. I thought we’d just been friends. After a few seconds he stopped and took note of my shocked face.

“Oh I thought… I mean… I-“ He stuttered. In the moonlight I could see his cheeks turn red.

“It’s okay.” I looked at my feet, feeling confused.

“I think… I think I should go.” With that Evan rushed across the grounds, leaving me with his jacket still around my shoulders.

Inside I found Erica and Spara both standing at the refreshments table. Neither of them seemed happy.

“Hi Colette,” Erica said miserably.

“Vere’s Evan?” Spara wanted to know.

I shrugged.

“Did he kiss another girl?” Erica asked.

“No.”

“Then why are you looking so glum?”

“’E kissed me,” I said flatly.

I notice Colette, Spara, and Erica all looking positively awful sitting at one of the tables. I could understand why Spara and Erica could be hating this, they didn't want to go in the first place, but Colette? She was always one for balls. "Vait 'ere, vor a zecond?" I ask Tony and kiss him on the cheek before walking quickly across the Great Hall to Colette. "Colette Luciferé, what are you doing here? You should be dancing with Evan, you're a champion!" She slumps down in her chain tiredly. "He kissed me, alright! He kissed me!" "Well wouldn't that be a good thing? You like him, right?" "I don't know, that's the problem!" Awh, Colette was having boy problems. "Listen, who was the one who got every single girl a date to the winter ball last year?" She opened one eye and glared at me. "Me." "Yes. And who was the one who actually managed to get Madame Albina a boyfriend?" She chuckled at the thought. "Me." "Exactly! Now get off your lazy French butt and get out there and talk to Evan. He probably thinks you hate him since you didn't kiss him back, you have to set this straight before you end up with a rivalry." She stands up after what I say. "Fine, I'll talk to him. And you have a lazy French butt too, you know." "Yeah, but I'm a quarter Irish, so it's a lazy French-Irish butt." She laughs, turning around and walking outside into the courtyard. Erica and Spara look at me for an explanation and I'm abut to give them one when I feel a tap on my shoulder. I turn around and the headmaster of Durmstrang is standing behind me. "Bonjour...?" He takes my wrist and I look at Spara scared. She shurgs and she and Erica stand up but I'm already half way across the ballroom. I see Tony sitting by the punch bowl turned around, so he doesn't see me leaving. The headmaster drags me into a room with Evan and a middle aged woman who could really use a decent makeover. "Vat are ve doing 'ere?" I ask angrily, my hair in a mes from being dragged here. "You three shall be trapped under ze lake. As zee second task." Okay, so I come to England to drown...wonderful news for the family back home.

Not sure if Ann was meant to be Colette's person thingy, but if not just disregard this post.

One of my last posts before I leave. By the way,  Madame A... (still can't remember her name) explained task 2 wrong, just pretend she said the right thing.

Colette-

Ann strolled off with her partner and I felt a slight pang of envy. She seemed so happy. I guess I had been happy, too, until Evan messed it up. I hated it when boys kissed me so suddenly. It made me feel used, as if all they cared about was that I looked good.

Taking Ann’s advice, I kept my eyes out for Evan yet he was nowhere to be seen. I danced with a boy from Slytherin but I didn’t feel into the music anymore. So I left the ball at midnight. As I walked to the dungeons I passed about 10 girls with a horde of friends around them. Mascara mixed with their blush and their dresses were crumpled and wet. At least I hadn’t been dumped by my date.

When I got to my room there was nobody there. I was already under the covers when a hand slapped my face. Then a fist pulled at my hair.

“How could you!?” Leila stood over me, her face red and blotchy, her eyes wet and puffy. I hadn’t seen her that upset since she’d chipped a nail. Why was she so upset? What had I done? All of a sudden I noticed the dripping lump of green cloth in her left hand. How had she found the dress? “Colette, I know you did this!”

“I…” However I didn’t get any farther because Leila pounced on me. She punched my nose and my stomach, scratched my arms, legs and face, pulled at my hair and slapped me. I tried, without success, to grab her hands but it only made her hit harder. “Weiwa! Bwease!” My nose was bleeding so much that my words were inaudible.

“STUPIFY!” Someone screeched from near the door way. My head ached so much that I couldn’t even turn it to the side. Leila rolled off me and onto the floor.

“Colette? Why did she do this? You’re covered in blood! You need to go to the hospital wing.” Evan’s face had a mixed look of fear and concern on it. Why was he here?

“Nod da hosbidal ving.” I murmured.

“Why not? You’ve got blood all over your face, Colette!”

“Bud den dey’d know.”

“Are you saying they shouldn’t know that your sister almost killed you?”

I nodded stiffly. “Can you ged some ice?”

Evan took a sideways glance at Leila. “But if she wakes…”

“I’ll deal with her. Go quickly.”

Five minutes later, Evan ran in holding icicles and a bucket of snow. “It was the only ice I could find.” He held an icicle to my nose. Leila began to stir. “The second task is in two days! How will you be able to…”

“Spara or Erica will help.” I didn’t want to talk anymore. It hurt to even move my jaw.

Evan lay icicles on my arms, legs and stomach. I was so cold that I began to shiver.

“Is there anything else I can do?”

I shook my head.

He started to leave but turned around.  “Colette, you didn’t tell me why she did that to you.”

“Because she dropped my dress in the lake!” Leila stood behind me, holding the wet dress.

“You beat your sister because she threw the dress in the lake?” Evan glared at Leila.

For a second I thought that she would jump on Evan, instead she stomped out of the room in a huff. I wanted to say something to Evan but then a teacher burst into the room. “There you are, Evan! I must talk with you!” He dragged Evan out of the room.

*

The next morning I woke up, aching all over my body. My arms were black, blue and purple and I couldn’t even breathe through my nose.

“You look blue, Colette,” was Adele’s, a girl who I didn’t know very well,  remarked in the morning.

“I think I broke my nose.” I said as I looked in the mirror. “I look horrible.”

Adele smiled. “You need make-up and a hat. How did that happen?”

I shrugged. “I tripped on my dress and fell onto a rock.”

Adele raised her eyebrows in disbelief. She knew well enough that I wasn’t clumsy.

An hour later, I walked out with a blue hat and a pound of make-up on my face.

Spara and Erica were already in the Great Hall.

“No offense, Colette, but you look like you’re covered in fairy dust.” Erica giggled.

I reached for some fruit somewhere down the table. My jacket’s sleeve pulled back a little but enough to reveal some of my bruises.

“Vat happened?” Spara asked with a full mouth.

“Leila beat me up.”

“She what?” Erica and Spara exclaimed at the same time.

“I srew ‘er dress in ze lake so she beat me up.”

“Is that why you have all that make-up on? And what’s with the hat?” Erica wanted to know.

“Ze ‘at covers my nose.”

“Is it broken?”

“I zink so.”

“But that’s easy to fix!” Spara lifted her wand before I could stop her and muttered an incantation. I felt something crack, then blood streamed all over my clothes. Erica handed me three handkerchiefs.

“Why did you do that?” I demanded angrily.

“I put it back in place.” Spara went back to eating her breakfast. “I don’t think you’d vant a broken nose during the tournament.”

Somebody tapped me on my shoulder. It was Madame A…(?) “Colette, we must speak.” She whisked me out of the Great Hall and into a deserted corridor. “Remember how you helped me find Gerard?” A dreamy in-love look appeared in her eyes. I did remember how I’d gotten the two together.

“Oui, Madame.”

“Well, it’s time that I do you a favor.”

“Madame, you really mustn’t-“

“It’s about your clue.”

“You know the clue.”

She turned a little red. “Yes, I overheard you reciting it once but that’s not important. What’s important is that I know what it means.”

“You do?”

“Yes. I live where you don't go, so far yet so near – the black lake. By some known as simply a monster of lore- a giant squid (?) at the bottom of the lake. I've snatched from your hands that which you hold most dear. You haven’t seen Ann since last night, right?”

My eyes widened. I’d completely forgotten her. I was such an awful friend! Had a giant squid actually taken her? How could a giant squid come onto land and take Ann?

Madame A interrupted my thoughts. “The next two lines are obvious. You have to go down and fight him. Taking the thing that guides you through this – remember the golden apple? That’s a key. And the rest is also obvious. You have to face creatures of the deep to get Ann back.”

“Merci, Madame!” I wanted to hug her. She grinned, which she rarely did. “But, Madame, how am I supposed to breathe underwater?”

“I am sorry, Colette, but I am no biology professor. I do not know.”

Erica~

"That Leila's gone too far!" I stormed angrily while Spara hurried behind me. "All she ever does is beat up on Colette! She shouldn't have to put up with it anymore!"

"Erica, there's nothing you can do!" Spara said, rolling her eyes. "Yes, she's a jerk, but vat can we do? She's older than us, und she's more powerful!" I sat down and sighed. "I'm just sick of seeing Colette having to deal with her." Spara nodded. "I know." Suddenly, I saw Colette rush up to us. "Zere you are! I've been looking for you everywhere! I just . . ." Suddenly, she looked up and gasped. "Oh no! Um, Erica..." I looked up and, to my disgust, saw Elizabeth skipping happily towards me. "Hi Erica! Hi Spara! Hi Colette!" she chirped happily. "Erica, I didn't see you at..."

"Get avay from her, you two-faced pig." Spara spat. Elizabeth looked at her in suprise. "What...?"

"Erica saw you at ze ball." Colette growled, looking at her like she was a stain on her favorite shirt. "Making a fool of yourzelf wiz her date." Elizabeth's mouth dropped open. "What... but... how..."

"Erica, vould you like us to hex her?" Spara asked, taking out her wand. Colette followed her example. Elizabeth backed away.

"It's okay guys," I said, glaring at Elizabeth. "As much as I'd love to see her become a cockroach or something, I'd like to deal with her myself." Colette and Spara nodded. "In zat case, meet us in the Defense Against The Dark Arts classroom when your finished," Colette said. Spara walked by and whispered, "Give her a good hex for me." I snorted. "The best." I couldn't help smiling. How had I ever considered Elizabeth a best friend, when I had the truest and best friends in the world right next to me?

"Ugh. Thanks for getting me away from them," she said annoyingly. "I have no idea what they were talking about, Those foriegners are so annoying and barbaric." I wanted to punch her, but instead, I glared at her.

"First, if you ever call them "Foreign" or "Barbaric" again, I promise that the next day, you will wake up tied to the womping willow." Elizabeth's eyes widened. "Second, I know for a fact that I saw you kissing David." She started to protest. "You can claim you didn't do it all you want. I know you did, and that's all that matters." Her mouth closed. "It wasn't you kissing David that bothered me. It was you going behind my back and hurting me that made me furious. In the past, I would have set you both on fire right then and there. But you know what? I realized that you're not worth it. You never were. And I've got friends who are worth a thousand of you to prove it." Her mouth was now hanging. "I don't know why I ever forgave you after the tournament. It was a warning sign, and I ignored it. Well, guess what? I learned from it." I glared at her. "I'm never letting you make a fool of me again. We're done. Finished. I'm not wasting my time on you anymore. Instead, I'm going to appreciate the two truest friends I ever had." With that, I spun around and started to march down the hall, but stopped. "Oh, and you can have David. He's as much of a scumball as you are." With that, I marched down the hall, towards the Defense agains the dark rts classroom, with Elizabeth staring at me open-mouthed behind me.

I really should have posted before now...

Spara Petrova

"Did you hex her?" I asked Erica eagerly during lunch.

"No. But I'm never talking to her again."

I smiled, thinking inwardly that if I were Erica, Elizabeth would have antlers, legs made of jelly, two noses, and who knows what else. Colette giggled slightly at my disappointment. "Hex the giant squid, Spara, during zee second task. Leave zee students of 'ogvarts alone."

At this, me and Erica both jumped and stared at her. "Vot giant squid?" I asked slowly.

Her eyes widened. "I 'aven't told you yet!"

"Well..." Her voice lowered and she told us what Madame Albina had said.

"Well, that's great," Erica said. "Now there's only the question of breathing underwater. But thanks for telling us, Colette."

"We're all friends here," she replied. "You would have done the same for me." She paused. "Wouldn't you?"

"Ov course," I said, but there was something I had to think about. It was true; someone else would have kept it to themselves. The teachers would have kept it to themselves. The headmasters...

The judges! They couldn't find out! If they knew that we were sharing tips for the second task, then...well, they definitely wouldn't be happy. This was supposed to be a tournament which I had seemed to forget. It wasn't just about getting past the tasks, it wasn't just about International Magical Cooperation, no matter what the teacher said. It was also about doing it faster than Erica and Colette. It was about beating them.

And I don't think I could do it. Or maybe I could, but how would they feel? I want my school to do well, but I also don't want to betray my friends. This task, at least, let's do together.

Erica~

Breathing underwater. Breathing underwater. How do you breath underwater? I flipped feverently through the books in the library. Nothing popped up. Just stuff about gills and mermaids. I groaned and rested my head on the book. This was impossible! I was going to fail! Sighing, I checked a book out on charms and dragged myslef into my dorm. On the way, I passed Elizabeth happily holding hands with David. She glared at, having decided that the best way to handle me was to be angry at me. I ignored them and collapsed in the common room. The task was tomorrow! How was I going to figure this out in time?

"You look depressed." Colette said, plopping down beside me. She was visiting the Ravenclaw comon room so often, barely anyone gave her a second look anymore.

"Stupid water!" I groaned. "How are we supposed to figure this out?" Colette went quiet with a guilty look on her face. I had a feeling she had already gotten some ideas. "You don't have to tell me anyhting else. It was enough that you told us about the task in the first place." She nodded. The door to the common room opened again, and Spara sat in a plush chair next to me. "Nothing." She sighed. "I really hate water." I snorted and looked around. Colette had risked getting disqualified for telling us about the task. I suddenly remembered the heasmasters conversation at the ball. Colette and Spara had given me hints. It was about time I told them what I had heard.

"Listen." I said, lowering my voice. "At the ball, when I was out in the courtyard, I heard the Hogwarts and Durmstang headmasters talking. I think it was about the last task. Something about it being really dangerous." Colette scrunched her eyebrows. "But... zey are all dangerous." "Vat's so special about the last task?" Spara asked. I shrugged. "I don't know, but... be careful. We need to be ready for anything. I know we need to get through this one, but I'm worried. It didn't sound good. Like the Hogwarts head was kind of freaked out about it." Colette and Spara slowly nodded. "Thanks Erica." Spara said. "We'll watch out." I nodded and sunk back into the chair. "Well, now we just need to figure out what we use." Spara nodded. "Too bad there isn't some sort of potion that helps." I suddenly shot out of my chair. "Brilliant!" I cried. Colette and Spara blinked. "Vats brilliant?" I got up and rushed to the door. "I just thought of something. I'll see you guys later."

I rushed as fast as I could to the potions room. I knew just the person that could help me.

Andrew Cho was a Slytherin who was an amazing potions master. Everyone was certain he would be the next potions master at Hogwarts. But the teachers wern't wild about him, because everyone knew he sold illigal, sometimes dangerous potions he made himself. Most kids bought potions that made you more intelligent for an hour (he had invented it himself) for tests they hadn't studied for. Or sometimes girls would buy love potions for people they liked. I had never bought from him, but I had an idea.

Andrew was busily mixing something in a cauldron when I barged in. He looked up in annoyance. "What do you want, Foster? I'm busy." I shook my head. "I need your help. I need a potion." His eyes brightened. He could never resist a few Galleons. "What kind?"

"I need a potion that helps me breath under water for the tournament. By tomorrow." Andrew's eyebrows shot up. "Tomorrow? That's not enough time!" "Do you have a potion that can do that?" He slowly nodded. "I made one myself. I can make one, but I can't do it in a day." I glared at him. "You're Andrew Cho, potion master extrordinaire. You can do whatever you want." His eyes narrowed. "Okay, maybe I can make one by tomorrow. Why should I kill myself and stay up all night to get one for you?" I crossed my arms.

"I'll pay you 20 galleons for one by tomorrow. Plus, my cousin Jenny works at Honeydukes. I can get you a full order of Fizzing Whizbees for free. I heard you like those." His eyes brightened. "30 Galleons." "23" "27" "25. Take it or leave it." He nodded. "Deal. A breathing potion for 25 Galleons plus a full order of Fizzing Whizbees." Suddenly I stopped. "How long does it last?" His eyes narrowed again. "Usually an hour." "Can you make it two?" "Yeah, but that's extra work." I rolled my eyes. "Fine. It's a known fact you like Esmerelda Fawks. She's my partner in Herbology. Give me two hours, and I'll put in a good word for you." He gave a slow grin. "Fine." I sighed iand started heading out the door. "Foster!" He called. "You know if the judges find out about this, the could take a ton of points off or even diqualify you." I nodded. "I know. But I'd rather take my chances then not have anything at all."
