Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Triwizard Tournament RP!
I know there's...

I know there's already another HPRP going on, but this idea has been spinning around in my head for a while, and it's time to put it into action.

So this is somewhere between the time the Tournament started and the time 'the death toll mounted so high that they canceled it'. We're going to need to do a lot of inventing, since I don't think Rowling gives that much information on it. Time to get out the old copy of The Lexicon and try to look up anything related to it.

But anyway, this is before you had to be of age to enter, so you can be any age. Hogwarts is the host school since we know the most about it.

A downside is that we can only have three champions, but we can be friends, supporters, etc. We'll decide which school wins later.

I won't be able to post at all for the next 10 days, going on vacation. Maybe I can sneak onto a computer, but it's doubtful.

I really should have posted by now... But, anyway, if ZB is posting, I doubt that our posts will intersect.

Spara Petrova-

"Um... Hi." I said awkwardly.

He ignored the greeting. "International magical cooperation, huh?" he asked, gesturing toward Colette and Erica.

I raised my eyebrows. "Yes. But they're really nice, you know. The type of friends that won't abandon you."

 He looked away. "I'm sorry, Spara. But the article hurt me too, you know."

 "I know that! But do you really think I'd do that? I'd embarrassed the whole school."

 For the first time, his grey eyes met my brown. "No. I see that now. When the article about your friend Colette came out right before the first task, I realized.... And then I was afraid I would never be able to tell you."

"That I'd get run over by a hippogriff on the rampage?" I asked, laughing for the first time. Evan embraced me, like a brother, and I knew that I had no romantic feelings for him -- something that I had not been sure of until now.

 "Spara?" he suddenly asked.

 "Yes?"

"Would you mind if I asked Colette to the ball?"

 "Not at all," I replied, and ran to catch up with my friends.

 ~~~
Disclaimer: I am not asking Colette to go with Evan, nor am I showing that Evan is in love with Colette. I used that as a plot device. Elizabeth M. can go with whoever she wants.
So I sort of like the idea of going with Evan. At first we'll just be friends but then I might put some romance in there. I'll think about it though. :)
Colette-
Erica, Spara, Ann and I spent hours in the library turning our golden fruits over in our hands and looking for cracks where it should be opened, keyholes. Spara even suggested biting it. We probably spent more time in the library than we did sleeping.
Eric didn’t seem very worried about finding the hint because she’d already gotten first place in the first task, but I needed to win the next task (or at least second place); I didn’t want to loose the tournament like everyone though I would. For most people, I was just the little Frenchie who only cared about her make-up.
Yet there was one more thing that seemed even more important than finding out our clue: the Yule Ball.
“Vat is this ball? Do ve dance or vat?” Spara asked one afternoon in the library.
Erica let her golden fruit drop into her lap. “Oh yes. I’ve never been to it but it’s supposed to be great. On Christmas Eve everyone dresses up and goes to the ball. I read about it somewhere.”
“But vere are ve going to get a dwess? Not in Pigsmead.” I complained. Erica had shown us the village near Hogwarts and it was atrocious. You’d never see something like it in France.
“You mean Hogsmead. No, you don’t get dresses there… I don’t think. My mum will send me one. She’ll send me designs by owl and I’ll pick it out. Then she’ll go to a shop and get it sewn.”
“And vat are ve supposed to do? Go in our normal clothes?” Spara twirled a strand of hair around her finger.
“No. Do what I’m doing or find someone who can lend you something.”
“I’m certainly not going to use somezing from my sister. Les vetements de ma soeur sont tres moche!”
Ann nudged me. “Ils ne comprennent pas la Français, Colette.”
Erica raised her eyebrows. “What did you just say?”
“I said my sister’s zings are ugly and Ann said zat you don’t understand French.”
Spara smiled. “That’s for sure. Anyway, who are we supposed to go with?” She glanced at me in an odd way. Did she know something I didn’t know?
“Vy don’t you go viz Evan?” Evan had talked with Spara and they were friends again so were Elizabeth and Erica.
“Oh. I don’t know. I think he already has someone who he’s going to ask. And we’re only friends…”
“So? It doesn’t ‘ave to mean somezing. You can just go as friends. But it would be embarrassing to go alone.” Who would I go with?
“I can introduce you to some boys, Spara. Or you can go with someone from your school. How are the boys from Durmstrang?” Spara told us all about the boys in Durmstrang and what crazy things they had done until it was time for dinner.
“I need to go to ze bazroom. I’ll meet you in the Great ‘all.”  Erica and Spara nodded. I noticed that Ann was gone but then remembered that she’d been talking with a boy outside the library.
As I reached for soap to wash my hands, I knocked my apple under the running water. Suddenly it cracked and a mesmerizing voice sang:
I live where you don't go, so far yet so near
By some known as simply a monster of lore
I've snatched from your hands that which you hold most dear
And now you must face me to see it once more
You must go under, and toward my lair,
Taking the thing that guides you through this
Facing the challenges, battle through there,
And there you will find the thing you will most miss.
When the song ended, the two apple halves glued back together. I looked around the bathroom but I was alone. I now had the clue. It was confusing. A monster of lore? Someone dear? What did it all mean? Should I tell the others? If I didn’t then I’d have more chances of winning but they were my friends and they’d helped me a lot. I couldn’t betray them now.
I left the bathroom and ran to the great hall.
*
“How about we all go to bed and talk about it tomorrow after we’ve had some time to think.” Erica decided after I’d told them about the clue.
We parted outside of the Great Hall and I made my way with Ann to the dungeons.
“Hey! Colette!” I heard from behind me. I turned around and saw Evan running down the corridor. “Can I talk to you for a minute?”
I glanced at Ann who nodded. “I’ll go.”
Evan stopped about a foot away from me. “I- I vanted to know… um… Do you vant to go to the Yule Ball vith me?”
“Vat?” It sounded sort of rude but I was actually excited.
“The Yule Ball. Are you already going vith someone?”
I shook my head. “You’re asking me?”
“Yes.” He smiled nervously.
“Vy not Spara?”
“Ve’re just friends and you’re-“
“I’ll go.”
Now it was his turn to be shocked. “Vat?”
“I’ll go vith you… If Spara’s okay with it.”
“She is!” He grinned. So did I. I was going with Evan to the Yule Ball!
Spara Petrova-
In the morning, Colette told us about how Evan asked her to the ball. I was chuckling through the whole thing.
Leila, Colette's sister, paused behind us. "Félicitations pour avoir obtenu un partenaire, Colette. Je suis convaincu que vous voulez--" she began, but Colette interrupted her.
"Tais-toi et nous laisser seuls, Leila," she snapped.  Erica and I have heard this phrase so often that we alread knew what it meant.
"Also, stop speaking French in front of my friends, you know they don't understand it," Colette added.
"What did she say?" Erica asked curiously.
"She congratulated me on getting a partner, then she said that she trusted me to do something, and I told her to--"
"Shut up and leave us alone," Erica and I said at the same time.
~~~

"So," Erica began matter-of-factly, "let's take it from the top. I live where you don't go, so far yet so near: what could that mean? Where don't we go?"

"The boys' dormitories," Colette said lazily. It was a sunny day outside, and none of us felt like working out the clue.

 "The thing is," Erica said, "there are a lot of places where we don't go."

"Next: a monster of lore," I continued, reading from the parchment where we'd written down the riddle.

We stayed silent for a moment, thinking of chimeras and quintapods and dragons and Acromantulas.

 "They couldn't possibly mean the Forbidden Forest, could they? I mean, there are probably monsters there," Erica suggested.

 "Let's keep it in mind," agreed Colette, writing down 'forbidden forest' below the riddle.

"Well, the next two lines are easy: it'll take what we most miss, and we have to battle what's taken it to get it back."

"That's encouraging," I muttered. And no matter how much we pondered the riddle, our minds were still elsewhere; the looming threat of the Yule Ball. Skipping was not an option: it was traditional for the champions to open the dancing. I imagined writing to my family and saying that I'd gone without a partner. My mom had already sent me a dress, a fancy mound of red velvet.

I would rather face a quintapod than go to that ball.

Hmm... who should I make Erica go ot the ball with? options:

1) I could say that Elzabeth had a twin brother who's liked Erica for ages but Erica only considered him as a friend.

2) I could make her in love with some popular guy who never gave her the time of day until she got into the tournament.

3) Or... Tiffany W., maybe Erica and Spara can go together? I have never gone to a dance with a guy, I always go with my friends... unless you have other plans in mind. Just an idea.

Think think think....

I don't think it will work like that at the Yule, especially seeing as it's not quite modern even though we changed the time and wizards are really old fashioned anyway. Plus we're champions.

I'm planning to make Spara go with some Durmstrang guy and shake him off as soon as possible.

I designed some dresses for Colette and want to know, which one you think is best. These are just sketches so they aren't that great...
