Music Club

So for my CBversary a few people said they wanted to do this. I am working on a Little Lost Library revival but that will probably take a while. In the meantime, here's the music club!

This is for anyone who loves music and wants to discover new artists. To join, just comment saying you want to join. Next Friday, we'll start rotating, starting with me and then in order of who commented. Anyone can join the rotation at any time! If you comment saying you want to join, you'll be added to the end of the rotation.

The way it will work is each week, the next person in the rotation picks an album to reccomend, and everyone listens to it. Once you've listened to the album, say a little about what you thought of it! Doesn't have to be too much, just something like, "I enjoyed it" or "It wasn't really for me" and maybe something like "___ was my favorite song" or whatever.

I think that's it! We'll start on the 26th :D

omg the linda lindas! this used to be one of my favorite albums actually; my music taste has changed a lot but i still love it

my favorite songs are growing up, oh!, why, and talking to myself. i really like the fact that they were really young when they started, which is super impressive. anyway yeah solid album!

also did you know they're touring with green day and the smashing pumpkins? it's so amazing how much attention they've gotten :)

YES I did know!! It's awesome!!! :DD

also, thank you @all for listening and commenting on the album!! I still haven't gotten enough time to listen to all the songs on everyone else's, but I will write comments... sometime in the future. Also, I forgot to write the actual blurb oops... But yeah, thank you!! It means a lot :) :)

okay, growing up by the Linda Lindas! i liked this album, first off. get that out of the way so we can Yap to the Extreme.

given your description of the band i went in with certain expectations, and i was honestly thrilled to have them be proven incorrect. pop-punk was not my expectation! it's good! "Oh!" was a perfect opening track, and "Fine" as well as "Why" also stood out to me! they went in the playlist.

my favorite tracks were probably the ones that had a noisier angle, and were more intense. some of the more poppy ones were a little generic occasionally, but on the louder, more hectic ones, the band has a very distinct and interesting sound that isn't much like anything else today! i certainly appreciate the fact that, on a sliding scale of pop to punk, it's slightly more punk than pop, because that differentiates it from lost music in it's genre.

the only real pitfall at all is occasionally flawed lyrics, but ill be honest, hey, these are kids, and they've written better lyrics than i ever have. stumbling occasionally is nothing to be ashamed of, and it's a little endearing, honestly.

a special shout out to the vocalist, she's incredible. she has this yelping, mechanical tell that is just *chefs kiss* on so many of the songs. her range is amazing, and she doesn't sound like any other vocalist out there. if i were to compare it to anything, i would say Phil Elverum of The Microphones, specifically on certain tracks on the glow pt. 2, but that would be a stretch. with a bit more songwriting emphasis, this band will probably go from really good to incredible, so... yeah!!!

id give it a solid 8/10 overall, but plenty of the songs on here are nines and tens, so maybe an 8.5? im probably going to listen to it again, whenever im in the mood. it's going in the rotation!

I liked Growing Up. The lyrics and general message resonate with me; the only thing I didn't like is that I prefer more acoustic music to the electrified sort but honestly that line is blurry (some pop is Awful! And some is Great! And some country is the best and some is just a man in the back of a pickup truck playing his guitar and objectifying his girlfriend) so the distinction is hard to make. My favorite song was probably Growing Up or Oh! or Remember, and I'd probably rate it an 8.5/9 of 10. (It's also kind of nice to know that there are kids who do these amazing things.)

already knew who the Linda Lindas were but I only knew a few songs so I was happy to listen to more! I liked the album a lot and generally have always found the Linda Lindas to be Very Cool. I liked "Growing Up" and "Remember" the best. This band was in the movie Moxie! Which you need to watch, Celine! Though the book was way better...

Anyway, 8/10, will be listening again!

Side note: the youngest member is younger than me... what am I doing with my life? :,)

Okay, for this week's album I'll do Moving Out by Phoneboy! Phoneboy is an indie rock band that, like me, is from New Jersey (though they have since moved to NYC). Their music is inspired by Weezer (one of the songs on their debut album is even named after a Weezer song), among other bands; usually it's pretty upbeat sounding! I'm a big fan of the guitar and percussion in a lot of their songs, and some of their lyrics are pretty funny and clever. They also just dropped a new single today!

My favorite songs off Moving Out are probably "Ferrari," "Moving Out," and "Your Apartment." "Need a Friend" and "Gone, Gone, Gone" are also so good… the whole album's pretty great, really. It's not a very long album, but it's a good one. It's fine if you don't like it, though! I'd love to hear any and all opinions on the album.

I actually found out about Moving Out (the song) per your recommendation (maybe? Probably?) a year ago; it's one of my favorite songs!! :D I haven't listened to all the other songs on the album yet, but excited to! Hopefully... if I have time :/ I STILL haven't finished the first two yet...

oh I also like this album! my account unfortunately blocks explicit music so I've only heard like half of the songs, but my favorites are Wasting Time and Acoustic Song. 9/10 album haha

i listened to Growing Up last week and just never made a comment but i really liked it!! my favorite songs were Oh! and Why, and with Cuantas Veces and Talking to Myself as 2nd favorites. i didn't love every song, but that's mostly because the genre got a little heavier sound-wise than i usually listen to. i also think the lyrics were a bit simplistic & could be better, but the direct-ness was kind of refreshing in a way. also they just released a new album & i started listening to it this morning, it's also good so far!

yayayay i love talking about music :D

I thought it was okay--quite interesting but not exactly my type of music. Probably 7.5 of 10. My favorite song was Runaway. I didn't have time to listen to the full album, but I did listen to most of it (so this opinion applies to only the first half).

I believe it's my turn so I get to pick a album of K-pop MWHAHAHA

Because I'm not terribly evil, I decided to pick an album by one of my favorite artists, but without any Korean! All English :)
The album is Golden by Jungkook, and I hope you guys like it. My favorite songs from it include Yes or no, Please don't change, and Standing next to you. I really enjoyed the beat to a few of these skongs, but I find this album very good variety of songs as well.Note: the song Seven has a clean version at the end of the album, but the alternate version of 3D will have to be looked up separately (if you want to) I don't mind harsh reviews, you can be completely honest with your opinions :)
