Music Club
So for my CBversary a few people said they wanted to do this. I am working on a Little Lost Library revival but that will probably take a while. In the meantime, here's the music club!
This is for anyone who loves music and wants to discover new artists. To join, just comment saying you want to join. Next Friday, we'll start rotating, starting with me and then in order of who commented. Anyone can join the rotation at any time! If you comment saying you want to join, you'll be added to the end of the rotation.
The way it will work is each week, the next person in the rotation picks an album to reccomend, and everyone listens to it. Once you've listened to the album, say a little about what you thought of it! Doesn't have to be too much, just something like, "I enjoyed it" or "It wasn't really for me" and maybe something like "___ was my favorite song" or whatever.
I think that's it! We'll start on the 26th :D

I'm finally listening to it! It's quite nice - a good interpretation of the rock/folk genre! I think for me personally it lacks something - it's slightly repetitive for me, I suppose, and both quiet but non-peaceful at the same time? I don't think I explained that well lol. But I don't dislike it :) I think "Sugar in a Bowl" is my favorite. I like the guitar - it reminds me a bit of Peter Paul & Mary songs.

I just finished listening to the album, and I really enjoyed it! I'd already been familiar with "Little Talks," and I loved that song, but I'd never sat down and listened to the whole album. I found the album beautiful, powerful, and really comforting. I liked the repetition of lines or sounds in songs so that they felt somewhat easy to just sing right along with. I don't think I can pick a favorite song! I think I more appreciated the album as a whole piece, although a few songs stood out, like "King and Lionheart." Anyway, I rate the album an 8.5/10 and will definitely be adding some of these songs to my various playlists. Thanks for the recommendation!

I enjoyed the album. I've heard of Little Talks. I enjoyed Dirty Paws and Slow and Steady the most.

not my first time listening to this album! i really love it, and the band.
also, i didn't know they were icelandic. that tracks though!
my favoritie songs are dirty paw (obviously.) and little talks. i know little talks is the one everyone knows, but there's a reason, and that reason is: it's really good! i love folk music, especially this kind, which is strange, and fairy-tale like.
the subject matter is often dark, but the deliveries and harmonies are beautiful and gentle, and it feels like coming home, in a way. or, perhaps more accurately, being far from home and dreaming of your return.
9/10!

I've already listened to this album a couple times, although considerably far in the past. I used to be really into folk-ish music (which is not to say i don't still enjoy it, but I definitely don't listen to it as much) so I'm pretty familiar with them.
Overall I still really like it! Probably some of my favorite songs were 'Love Love Love' 'Little Talks' and 'Sloom'.
But yeah! Probably like 8.5/10--the lyrics are awesome!

Just started listening to it—pretty good so far! Thanks for sharing it with us @Hawkstar! I'll post a fuller review of it later.

This album is sooo good!! My favourite song was Little Talks, but all of them were pretty good. It was kinda...weird, Ig, but that added to my enjoyment actually. XD I'd give it an 8.5/10. :)))

ooh i really liked this!! i've listened to a few Of Monsters And Men songs before, but i don't think i've ever sat down and listened to the full album. it did have a very fairy-tale-like feel to it - i always love songs that tell stories, especially stories as strange as the ones in this album. it had a very free, wild, natural feel to it - i guess that fits with the title of the album; kind of answering the call of nature and blurring the lines between what it is to be a human and to be an animal. okay that didn't make sense, did it? i'm tired.
anyway. i really liked the overall sound of this album! very beautiful and comforting (and almost nostalgic) - it was a bit repetitive, i think, but i think that was intentional, and it makes it that much more cohesive and powerful. my favorite songs were "Dirty Paws," "King And Lionheart," "Mountain Sound," and "Lakehouse," but i really liked them all!!
thank you so much for the recommendation, Hawkstar :D i'll definitely listen to this album again :D

hmm so I only listened to half of the album and I don't think I have/will have time to listen to the other half until a while (but I will when I can and come back!), but for now, here's the song-by-somg I've been doing:
Dirty Paws - ooh that beginning alright... ohh I love how they transition from one to the next... and oc the animation... ok YESSS, ok love the beginning of the second part, these lyrics are awesome!!!, wait is this deforestation? yayyy!!, and hah it's kinda like an epic... and YES to that ending like wind blowing or something!! Maybe that means it all turned out alright (wind=nature=nature persists)?
overall, great album, I loved it!!!!!! And I did like the repetitiveness cuz it made a nice sort of rhythm and plus, made it easier to sing along XD
I think my favorite song's gotta be Little Talks if not bc it's the only one I've got memorized after karaokeing to it 5 times (and it's been on repeat in my head this whole day haha), but all of them are soooo good!! Did you know Little Talks is a conversation between a wife and her dead husband, though? Gives the lyrics a whole new meaning <3

All right, it's not quite my style, but it is nice music in itself - very peaceful overall, and I like the instrumental. My favorite is probably "King and Lionheart" :)

i’m going to choose the album Lowlight by Lor! this is one of my favorite albums at the moment, but it seems to be rather obscure—i don’t know anyone else who’s listened to it! they’re a Polish band (this album’s in English, though), so i guess it makes sense no one’s really heard of them?
anyway, this album is sooo pretty. i’m not entirely sure of the genre (i’m terrible at classifying music into genres, sorry :P)—according to The Google, it’s chamber folk? if that means anything to you, cool!
so the band’s name Lor comes from the word folklore, so a lot of their music is centered around storytelling. i feel like the lyrics have a strangely poetic, almost-fairy-tale-like quality to them, and it's all so so pretty.
it's hard to choose a favorite song! all of the songs kind of add to the overall cohesion of the album - "Machinarium" especially. if i had to choose, though, i guess i'd go with "The King," "Matches," or "Aberdeen."
i hope you like it (totally cool if you don't, though :D) - if you do, they have a lot of other great music! lately i've been listening to "fanfiction," "PAM PAM PAM," and "bye bye, sun francisco," but Lowlight holds a special place in my heart :]

I listened to it and it's so beautiful! I find it very mysterious and enchanting; I could totally see it as background music for some indie TV show/movie. It feels really winter-y to me? I guess that doesn't make sense, but it just does. It also made me think of lighthouses in storms a lot for some reason lol
Anyway, I really enjoyed this album! I too feel like each song adds to the album as a whole, but if I were to choose a favorite, I guess I'd say "Machinarium." I thought it made for an amazing ending to the album -- not only was the music great, but the callbacks to the titles of some of the song names in the lyrics ("Cinnamon" and "Happy Birthday" were what I heard, but there may have been more) were such a cool little detail! Some others that stood out to me were "The Girl with the Flaxen Hair" and "Aquarius" (which I'd already known since pangolin had previously reccomended to me). All in all, I found the album mysterious and powerful. 9/10!
