Music Club
So for my CBversary a few people said they wanted to do this. I am working on a Little Lost Library revival but that will probably take a while. In the meantime, here's the music club!
This is for anyone who loves music and wants to discover new artists. To join, just comment saying you want to join. Next Friday, we'll start rotating, starting with me and then in order of who commented. Anyone can join the rotation at any time! If you comment saying you want to join, you'll be added to the end of the rotation.
The way it will work is each week, the next person in the rotation picks an album to reccomend, and everyone listens to it. Once you've listened to the album, say a little about what you thought of it! Doesn't have to be too much, just something like, "I enjoyed it" or "It wasn't really for me" and maybe something like "___ was my favorite song" or whatever.
I think that's it! We'll start on the 26th :D

i'm not really a big fan of country, so honestly i'm a bad person to review any country music, so i'll just say the singer is very talented. that's cool. and i did listen to it all, because i have an obligation. i'm no monster!

Ok, here's as far as I got into lor:
Bonum - huh. Sorta chant-likey like sweeping you into a spell, you're now entering this fairy-tale like land, delicate piano sort of so cool, wow voices are so pretty and delicate as well, like butterfly wings or faltering wingbeats or whatever if that makes sense?? I like how it takes its time and doesn't need to rush and is so soothing and wow it's beautiful already, 1st song on the album :) and I love the lyrics too though I'm too lazy to even try to interpret them :) and such a nice ending too... huh. cool title, too. I won't pretend to understand though :)

Alright, I listened to them all (with the exception of "The Lightning Express" which I couldn't seem to find). They weren't really for me, to be honest. I'm quite picky when it comes to country. I didn't hate them (I wouldn't even really say I didn't like them), but they were just okay for me. She has a nice voice though

so, i wasn't able to listen to all of them - i could only find like half of them where i listen to music D: i listened to some of her other songs at random, though, to sort of make up for it?? the ones i listened to were "dynamite," "country mile," "bad idea," and "home to donegal." i'd actually heard the last one before, so that was cool :D
anyway, i'm generally not a huge fan of country, but i did enjoy these! not my *favorite* songs ever, but i really liked how upbeat they were! her voice is incredible, and the lyrics were pretty clever. i especially liked the ones that felt more traditional/celtic-influenced. i think my favorite was "my home" or "home to donegal," but i also liked "bad idea" and "country mile." they felt almost nostalgic for me, strangely, even though i'd never listened to them before (aside from "home to donegal").
um, yeah!! thanks for the recommendations, Poinsettia :D

Ok I listened to all of them and wrote out my thoughts but the electronic devices are being funky today so... but Lisa McHugh!! Love her!! :D and while I'm here, thanks to you and Amethyst for introducing me to her, Martina McBride, and Jo Dee Messina!!

I listened to all the songs, and I thought it was pretty good! Her voice is nice. Though honestly, I'm not the biggest fan of country music.

new album! if you were worried i was going to use this club to force you to listen to the mountain goats, your fears were well-founded.
i've chosen Tallahassee, their most easily accessible album, and the first one i've ever heard. it isn't their best, but it is awesome, and it's kind of in a weird middle ground between the more lofi Older-Era albums and the more musically varied Newer-Era stuff.
the primary "story" in the album is simple and very easy to project yourself into. two people in a failing marriage move to tallahassee, to either fix their marriage, or drag each other down completely. no prizes for guessing what happens.
the album alternates between incredibly upbeat, violent, and cathartic-souning songs, and slower, quieter songs. some of the quietest songs are the most lyrically powerful songs, so don't ignore them.
my favorite song is peacocks. it's a quieter song, and the first time i heard it, i barely paid it any notice. but it's great! it's a perfect illustration of a very real-seeming moment.
my least favorite song is the house that dripped blood, but to be honest, i still love it. it just doesn't measure up comparitively. still, it has a sweet harmonica solo, so!
the album is folk-ish at points, and more like rock at others. the song small arms traffic blues has what might be some of my favorite lyrics ever.
our love is like the border between greece and albania
trucks loaded down with weapons
crossing borders every night
moon yellow and bright
there is a shortage in the blood supply
but there is no shortage of blood
the way i feel about you baby can't explain it
you got the best of my love
awesome stuff! happy listening!

Just listened to the new album and it's pretty good! I like the story and the songs. personally not rlly my taste but still an overall great album!

It was alright, not my style, but I could see the appeal! It had a nice beat to it. My favorite song was probably Peacock. I'd give it 6/10. Thanks for suggesting it!
