photography contest!
photography contest!
Pheasantwithbooks created a drawing contest, which made me nostalgic for this photography contest (which I believe was also created by pheasantwithbooks, i could be wrong though)
anyways, if you're new here, these are the rules-
~the judge gives out a theme each round and sets a deadline for the pictures to be in by
~the participants follow the theme and submit their pictures
~the judge ranks the pictures, sometimes giving them feedback
~whoever comes in 1st gets to be the next judge!
i'll be the first judge, and i'll start with a very generic theme, nature! pictures will be due on February 28th.
Have fun!
One more rule: ~no photos of people

I'm so sorry I forgot to judge yesterday!
Please note that I'm taking the water theme very seriously, so even though some of these are really good photos, the reason they didn't win is because the water was not the central focus. I am also judging based on the composition/other photographic elements of the photo, though.
7th: Tie between Barnswallow and Twirlgirl.
Barnswallow: The image was sort of diffused, and it didn't have a clear focal point. It might have been one of my top choices if there had been a tighter focus on the stones or there'd been something other than the field of stones.
Twirlgirl: There was a nice straight horizon line in your photo, which I liked. The composition was also very solid. The water wasn't really the focus of the photo, though. Maybe consider this in black and white with proportionally less tree?
6th: Tie between Claaws and Tuxedo Kitten.
Tuxedo Kitten: Your photo was a classic sunset photo, which I liked. But using the rule of thirds, I'd suggest more or less sky.
Claaws: I love the texture of the waves and the fade from light to dark. You've used the rule of thirds well, but the crooked horizon line is very distracting.
5th: AutumnArtist. I really like the photo, and it had a really interesting composition. But the pop of color that draws the eye and the structure of the London Eye seem to be the subjects of the picture rather than the water.
4th: Moonlight. Your photo had a clear depth of field and a focused foreground. Your use of light was really great. But again, the main focus wasn't the water. (It was a really well-balanced photo though.)
3rd: Leafy. I love the pop of color with the boats and how it draws your eye without drawing it away from the water. There's a nice straight horizon line and an overall balanced composition. It could use a lot more contrast, though, and it would be nice to maybe crop the photo/zoom in to see the water texture more.
2nd: Dandelion. I love that the foreground is in focus and that the water and leaf are clearly the subject. The light and dark in the photo are well balanced, but the horizon line is a little distracting.
1st: Hermione Granger. I really love the composition and focus in your photo! I like that the focus is on the water and that the water is itself interesting. The horizon is a little crooked, but it's balanced by the trees on the side. It's a really interesting photo overall.

Sorrysorrysorry I'm late, but, wow, I won! I didn't think I would, because they were all such good photos.
The next theme is 'view from above.' By that, I mean, get up high - the top of a building, a mountain, a tree - and take a photo of what' of the view.
Is Wednesday (a week from now, I think it's the 25th?) a good time for judging?
(April 17, 2019 - 9:34 pm)
Actually is Wednesday the 24th, sorry

Hi!!! Is it too late to join? Because I think I got some good ones!

I haven't participated but from my observations it's never too late until the due date which is April 24th. I may enter this myself, since it's a friday I have time to take and post the photo.
