Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Book Club!
Do anybuggy want...

Do anybuggy want to start a book club? Maybe for just 1 or 2 books, depending on how interested people are. I know there have been some threads on book clubs before, but from what I've seen, they've taken a REALLY long time to get started, if they even got started at all. Here you can suggest the books and discuss how we'll do it, etc. I'll start a different thread once we've got everything figured out.

K. The 27th is long gone now, so it's time for ZNZ to pick the book. I'll go tell her. Laterz!

Oh, found Vida's comment.

Vida: Yes. That is what the list is for (page 2). It contains the list of people who will choose the book. Right now, it's ZNZ's turn.

Hi! *jumps out of the woodwork (not that there is any woodwork but never mind), scaring everyone senseless* How about we read The Squire's Tale, by Gerald Morris?

Yes!  It's at the library so I'll get it as soon as possible.  It looks pretty good!

K. I put the book on hold. When should we finish reading it by? In two weeks or so?

Oh, Merlin, I don't know. I'm horrible at estimating how long it'll take for people to read books. Um, how long do we usually give? *should know this already* It is a fairly short book. (Well, only about two hundred pages in my copy, which I consider pretty short.) Maybe we should allow time for everybody to get ahold of a copy, though? What do you guys think? Admin?

I'd say no more than two weeks for obtaining and reading the book if it's only 200 pages.

We'll do that, then. And I'm horrible at it, too... It's a pain when you want to borrow something from someone, and they're willing to let you, but they have to read it first. They can be much slower than you'd expect.

K. I just got some books from the library today. Including The Squire's Tale. Sadly (not really) I also got Fang: A Maximum Ride Novel. I'm reading it right now. (not actually, but it's the book I'm reading) I should be done before dinner. I'll start The Squire's Tale a bit around 8. I can't say that I'll finish that in a day, and I probably won't. So who wants to start the thread for the book?

Haha, you guys still haven't chosen a book?  I thought it had all been finished ages ago!  I actually gave up on it cause I thought you'd read a whole book by now!!  Heehee.... That's pretty funny.  Sorry.  I wouldn't laugh, only I know exactly how you all feel.  I can NEVER make decisions!!!!!

Yes, we chose books (and read maybe one or two, but that was before I joined) and didn't read many.  And now we're trying to get through A Squire's Tale.  Maybe we should have more structure?  Like we try and have different topics within a discussion thread and... well I don't know.  What do you guys think?  And yes, I can't make decisions either!  Haha. :) :)

I'd think a good idea for the book club would be to read, commenting to others on any parts you like or think are particularly noteworthy. Ask any questions you may have (such as Why do you think X did Y?) and see what other have to say about them. Talk about the characters and/or what the book means to you. Did you learn anything from it? Will you change anything because of reading it?
