Chatterbox: Blab About Books
Book Club!
Do anybuggy want...
Do anybuggy want to start a book club? Maybe for just 1 or 2 books, depending on how interested people are. I know there have been some threads on book clubs before, but from what I've seen, they've taken a REALLY long time to get started, if they even got started at all. Here you can suggest the books and discuss how we'll do it, etc. I'll start a different thread once we've got everything figured out.

I'll join! I know a really good book.... Its called, "A cat's life" and Its about all the stages a cat goes thru.
(April 11, 2010 - 10:36 pm)
That sounds good! Except that some people don't like cats, and may not be interested... Then again, there will always be some people who don't like the choice, no matter what it is...
Speaking of which, how do we decide which book to do?
(April 12, 2010 - 9:41 pm)
Thanks, Ima! Oh, and we could do what they do in some book clubs, where every book is chosen by a different person. I'll make a list of who joined first on word, if you want, in the order of who joined first. I'll make a list and wait for feedback.

I'll join! I like book clubs. :) Which do we pick? And how?
Some suggestions:
A Dog's Life by Ann M. Martin
Julie of the Wolves by Jean Craighead George (yes, I am probably Julie's biggest fan, how did you guess?)
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle
Heidi by Joanna Spry (I think that's how it's spelled...)
Black Beauty by Anna Sewell
The Black Stallion by Walter Farley
I...think that's all, really. All books I've read, by the way, at least twice. Although Heidi...I need to brush up on that one.

OK, here's the list...
(April 16, 2010 - 9:35 pm)
Sounds good? Which book, though? (Say Heidi, say Heidi!)
Andy P. C. says zcoo. Coo. He's a dove!

I have been wanting to read Heidi for a while... But I'll wait until it's your turn to choose the book, because I always prefer it if I haven't already read the book. Unless Mary Jo does just happen to choose it, which would be great, too...
Anyway, she hasn't posted here in a while, has she?... Did she forget? Maybe I'll see if I can find her.
APVNSBC says nany! Nanny, or many? Or maybe many nannies...

Heehee, this is funny, so far we've had a cat's life, and a dog's life both mentioned... I wonder what's next... maybe a bird?? Sorry, I'm being very unhelpful.... I'll stop.
Yes, I think that sounds alright.... Last time it got pretty messy because everyone got confused about where we all were in the book, as we did a chapter a day or something. Anyway, I agree, read the book, then discuss. Trying to talk about it while we're still reading just doesn't work.
SO! Once we've chosen the book, we need AT LEAST ONE WEEK for people to get it from the library, preferably more.
(April 19, 2010 - 3:19 am)
Great! Okay. Mary Jo, which book do you want to read?
(April 17, 2010 - 1:36 pm)
Coolness! We could just say "Okay, so we're getting this book and we have two weeks 'til we officially star reading it!" Then "Okay, you have until *insert date* to read it, or at least, that'll be when we start the discussion." What'd ya think?
(April 20, 2010 - 10:55 pm)
Mary Jo? Ok, how about is she doesn't post by.... monday? Tuesday? then the next one on the list will go.
(April 21, 2010 - 10:47 am)
Good idea. Monday, then.
Note: If she posts on another thread, that counts, because we can always ask her to come here.
(April 21, 2010 - 6:43 pm)
So has anyone decided on a book?
(April 21, 2010 - 7:15 pm)
Ahh!!! I completely forgot about this!!! Sorry! Ok, so if you don't mind, I could choose the book; or if no one likes the ones I list, someone else can choose. Either way, I don't mind, but it would be faster if I chose one myself. So, here's what I think:
The Trumpet of the Swan by E.B. White (a classic, and easy to find in libraries, and a great book)
The Phantom Tollbooth-by Norton Juster (I think)
A Barrel of Laughs, A Vale of Tears-by Jules Feiffer (clever and not too long)
The Penderwicks-by Jeanne Birdsall (note: this is for girls, so if there are any boys participating, we won't read this)
Roller Skates- by Ruth Sawyer (also a girl's book)
The Willoughbys-by Lois Lowry (this book is a twist on a bunch of fairy tales and I love it!)
Ok, take your pick!
(April 22, 2010 - 10:09 am)
I think The Willoughbys would be good. I like spins on fairy tales. Plus, it's in the library.
