Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Poetry Contest

Poetry Contest

Well, we haven't had one of these in a while, have we? Time for a new one, I say! Welcome, resident poets!

The rules are pretty simple. I am the first judge. I will give you a theme, and you must write a poem relating to the theme. Be creative with your interpretations! I will then judge the entries by a set date, and the winner will then be the next judge, and set the next theme. And so on, and so forth.

The first theme will be... *dramatic drumroll*

Stars! Whether you chose to write about the kind of stars you wish on, or the kind that take the stage, I will be eagerly awaiting your sparkly, shiny, beautiful poems. Have them in by... Saturday, March 18. Two weeks. Sound fair?

I hope to see your poems soon!

I was planning to do this on paper- and ran out of time. So here it is anyway:

Falling into a book

A magical, magical book

Velvety covers part as I open it up

Or rather, open my favorite up

Right, I'm supposed to have a favorite

I'm supposed to choose one book out of many

This makes no sense to me

Even though, I am asked to choose a favorite

So, please, never ask what my favorite book is

Silence will greet that question

Sounds can only greet the question, "What is a book you liked?"

--

It is an acrostic, in case you didn't notice.

Oh and by the way, if I'm too late, it's because Parental Controls is being annoying and blocking the last page.

Oh, yup, I am too late. I'll do the next theme though!

Wow! Thanks Leeli! I was really surprised—I had to read your judging comments twice! Everyone's poems were wonderful! And more than half of them got the song "My Favorite Things," stuck in my head :)

The next theme is "antiques." You can take this literally or figuratively. What is quant and memorable in your life? What are some stories your family passes down from generation to generation? Is there a memento from another time that holds special value to you?

Can't wait to see everyone's poetry!

Yay! I think I can actually do something with this theme.

Here's my poem for antiques - hope you like it! -

Antiques:

Dusty volumes,

Musty smell,

Necklace, bracelet,

The tales they tell!

Pages, books,

Wrinkled with age,

Great-Grandma’s parrot’s

Rusty cage.

A porcelain doll

From years ago,

Its dress in tatters,

With a worn out bow.

Then my eyes widen,

Is it really true?

My special treasure -

A ballerina’s tutu!

To Me

One

It's blue

With rainbows and unicorns

That's covered in dirt

And falling apart

With my last names

Written across it

In dark brown ink

Two

It's colorful

With stars and splotches

All over the front

And writing all over

With my last names

Written across it

In faded gray ink

Three

Is white

With stripes and stickers

Covering it all

And holes on the bottom

With my last names

Written across it

Small, in black ink

Four

Is galaxy

With stars and nebulae

Dotting the front

And looking brand-new

But what's different

There's no name

Written across the front.

Old

Old

Old tells stories

Stories that take up so much time

Stories that itch to be written down

Stories that reveal fascinating details

Stories that last a lifetime

Stories that I hope never end

For when they end

It means that old

Is ending

Too

Guys, wasn't judging supposed to be yesterday? Also, can the next person maybe do something to do with school, or something like that? I have a pretty good poem that I'd love to enter

I think Rose Bud said she was going to wait for more entries.  Yeah, she said that.

I guess I'll judge tomorrow! The thing is, we only had 3 entries, so I was going to see if anymore came in. If I disappear tomorrow, then you can finally tell the world that I'm a secret agent, because by then it will be too late. Biology is coming for me.
