Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Poetry Contest

Poetry Contest

Well, we haven't had one of these in a while, have we? Time for a new one, I say! Welcome, resident poets!

The rules are pretty simple. I am the first judge. I will give you a theme, and you must write a poem relating to the theme. Be creative with your interpretations! I will then judge the entries by a set date, and the winner will then be the next judge, and set the next theme. And so on, and so forth.

The first theme will be... *dramatic drumroll*

Stars! Whether you chose to write about the kind of stars you wish on, or the kind that take the stage, I will be eagerly awaiting your sparkly, shiny, beautiful poems. Have them in by... Saturday, March 18. Two weeks. Sound fair?

I hope to see your poems soon!

Hi! I'm Twirlgirl! I hope its not too late to join! So, here goes:

My Favorite Thing

I love it.

The brightness of the spotlights

The feeling of all those eyes on me

Watching in suspense

As I leap and twirl.

I love it.

The music,

Ebbing and flowing

Like waves on a shore,

Flowing through me.

I love it.

Then the curtain closes

and reopens once more

To the deafening roar

Of a crowd’s approval.

I love it.

As I curtsy, I know

That I’ll never stop dancing.

My Favorite Thing

My favorite thing
Is not a gift
Or anything
Remotely special

It's something
Everyone knows of
But it's important
To me

A piece
Of wrapping paper

My favorite belonging

Everyone's name
Has been written on it

Celebrating 13 years
Of life
It's more important
Than what was inside

My favorite thing
Is not a gift
It's something
Very special.

Man, reading this poem again, it seems like I really wasn't trying that hard.  It's about my most treasured thing, and I really wanted it to convey that, but I really don't think I did a good job.  I won't re-do it so close to the deadline, but I know that it really wasn't that great of a poem, even for me.

If you want to, you can change it. That would be fine. You only have one day left until judging to do it though.

This may be too late. It's okay if it is. I actually wrote two poems on this subject, called Reflect and Refract. I'm posting Refract on the Poetry Challenge Thread.

REFLECT

The farm hatched

from an eggshell of sky

on a grey, breathless afternoon.

I can see the places

that the shadows once dragged

the yellow-tin tractor shed

and white plastic covered hay bales

down into the softest dirt

that springs up and rolls outwards

after a tractor has cut through it.

Grey sky and green water

come together over the sleeping pond

I can see where the clouds meet the tree line

and dissolve into nothingness

wondering if this is another

forgotten afternoon

in a line of my favorite hues of cessation.

Alrighty, time for results!

Honorable mention: Lucy!

In third place, Twirlgirl! I really loved your poem, and could relate to it since I am a dancer myself. Great job!

In second place, SopranoTwo! Your poem was beautiful, and I like the way you described colors as experiences.

And in first place, Rose Bud! I absolutely loved yours! I might be biased because it was about a farm, and I do love farms, but congrats! Lovely job, and I can't wait to see what theme you come u with!
