Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Poetry Contest

Poetry Contest

Well, we haven't had one of these in a while, have we? Time for a new one, I say! Welcome, resident poets!

The rules are pretty simple. I am the first judge. I will give you a theme, and you must write a poem relating to the theme. Be creative with your interpretations! I will then judge the entries by a set date, and the winner will then be the next judge, and set the next theme. And so on, and so forth.

The first theme will be... *dramatic drumroll*

Stars! Whether you chose to write about the kind of stars you wish on, or the kind that take the stage, I will be eagerly awaiting your sparkly, shiny, beautiful poems. Have them in by... Saturday, March 18. Two weeks. Sound fair?

I hope to see your poems soon!

So, I wrote a poem for this titled, 'Truth', but I'm hesitant to post it because I'm afraid of what you guys might think. I know that sounds stupid, but it's about the conflicting beliefs of creationists and evolutionists, and I just don't want to start any arguments, or offend anyone. I really put my heart into it, though. What do you guys think? Should I post it?

I think you should post it because I feel like we should all be open to learning.

I think you should post it, Leeli! People should learn to accept both sides of creation/evolution theories and remember that different people have different views. If someone doesn't like your poem, they can just stay quiet and keep their thoughts to themselves. I personally would love to read your poem. Don't let people discourage you about your opinions!

I'm okay with it, but I think the real decision should be up to Ruby. He might be hesitant to judge between poems of conflicting views or make it look like he shares one belief over the other, which is understandable. If he is, you could always post it on the Regular Poetry thread (It sounds cool!). Also, I forgot to post about this earlier, but I didn't find any of your previous remarks offensive. I'm actually interested to see other viewpoints on the subject.

@Ruby- If you want me to take down my poem for same previously mentioned reason, I'd be ok with it. I'd probably go and post it on the Regular Poetry thread. Also, if it makes anyone feel uncomfortable, I'll also take it down.

Dealing with lots of other things about evolution, it doesn't make me uncomfortable, even if I disagree with it. I actually like the concept and the poem itself. I'm fine with it. I probably will post my poem on the Regular Poetry Thread either way.

@Ruby, would you rather me write something else, or are you open to me posting said poem? If not, that's okay, I can enter something else.

@Leeli: You might want to go ahead and submit it anyways since Ruby isn't replying.

@Leeli, I think you should post it. Also, here is my poem:

The Sun

Doesn't move

Though it looks like it

The Moon

Isn't a crescent

Though it seems to be so

The stars

Are not pinpricks in the velvet of the sky

If these things

Are not what they seem to be

What else in space

Is unknown?

Hibernation

By Moon

--------

A bear will sleep

On a winter night

As if

It were

Still

Unmoving

Cold

But the bear is actually

Alive

Warm

Sleeping

Dreaming

I wish to hibernate

Like a bear

But my heart

Is too restless

To rest

For a whole season

I have things to do

Homework

Tension

Pressure

Worrying

About

Everything

Oh,

How I wish I could

Hibernate

Like a bear

~~~
I hope you like it!
Arrgh! Me again, I mean, Moon is me. Moon's my username on a different website, which is why I keep mixing these two up.
Hey, I'm joining! (I'm allowed, right?) Anyways, assuming I am, here is my poem:
Dust
Man
Created from dust
Sees much
Death, terror, hatred
But also
Life, joy peace.
Man
Created from dust
Sees much
and has much
whether rich or poor,
young or old.
Man
Created  from dust
lives
loves
laughs
trusts
thinks
imagines
And creates.
Man
Created from dust
Fights hard
for family
freedom
justice
and truth.
Man
Created from dust
Returns
All in a blink
of the universe's eye.
But Man,
Created from dust,
like a raindrop
on a lake's still surface,
creates ripples.
Here's my entry! I'm thinking of developing it and maybe submitting it for publication:
collective
i. first and foremost
time is irrelevant because
everything blends so
seamlessly that i don’t remember
if you moved away in third
grade or maybe it was fifth
ii. stop:start:start:stop
iii. round plastic timers like debate
rounds, we work with five minutes;
we can explain, but will you listen;
we’re running out of time, talk faster
in one ear and out the other
iv. listen, because so many
people can’t seem to
v. everything is lost at some
point or another; found doesn’t
have the same meaning for
us all
vi. my lost treasures are memories
stumble upon moments of sixth grade
Egyptian glory— but everything is
fractured into a million pieces scattered
everywhere like vases full of roses smashed
on the ground; are we stepping on broken
glass or rose petals?
vii. we remember the trivial, the small things
the little moments the things that shouldn't
matter but still do
viii. because i still have a clear picture
of running, running in first grade, but no
recollection of fourth grade science
viv. we don't remember what happened,
what we remembered becomes what happened
x. i am built upon a solid foundation
broken pieces are more than a sum of my parts
Ruby, this is all true
Thanks for the support guys. Here's my poem.
_____________
They say that
Billions of years ago
We were
Particles floating around
In blackness
When a chemical reaction
Exchanged the darkness
For light.
How could
A thousand tiny particles
Randomly combust
Exchanging darkness
For light?
But how can an entire
Universe
Come into existence
In a trillionth
Of a second?
This is no accident.
They say
That billions of years
From now
Our world will
Explode
And once again
We will be
Particles
Floating around in blackness.
But how can
An entire planet
Be obliterated
Into
A thousand tiny particles
In a single moment?
They say that
All life is derived from
Single-celled organisms
Floating around
In black water
That crawled ashore
And became
Something
Greater.
They say that
We are just
‘Evolved’
monkeys
Cousins
Of chimps.
How can
A thousand tiny organisms
Magically
Change
Into
Such
Complex creatures
As we?
Notice that
The missing link is
Still missing.
What if we
Aren't just
Glorified apes.
What if we
Have a purpose?
What if we were made
By something greater,
By Someone greater.
What if we weren't born just to die?
What if we weren't placed here just to live?
I'll tell you a secret.
It's true.
We are no accident.
If you look a little deeper, darling, you'll see the light.
If you really try, you won't have to push the truth away
Anymore.
I hope this isn't offensive to anyone.
