BIG Cadet Academy
Chatterbox: KYNGDOM™ RP Board
BIG Cadet Academy
BIG Cadet Academy for the Valiant
In its dying moments, SOCS merged with BIG, despite the fact that they'd been enemies for a time. BIG's cadet academy had already been established, but suddenly BIG had a bunch of experiments left over from SOCS. BIG wasn't so evil to keep up something so unethical as experimentation on live subjects… but these were the leftovers. The war is getting long, hard. They're starting to justify the use of experiments in hopes of creating stronger, genetically enhanced soldiers.
Meanwhile, BIG Cadet Academy for the Valiant is accepting more and more students at an alarming rate. Feeding children as young as eleven propaganda, teaching them to fight, and then placing them on the battlefield or into labs as soon as they come of age, it seems as though BIG is getting more desperate (and ruthless) than ever before…
***
Here is the recreated (and hopefully better) version of the original boarding school roleplay. The very basic story is summarized above, but I'll put it in clearer terms. The story is that now that SOCS, a very evil group of scientists who used to experiment on live beings, has been destroyed, BIG has been left with their experiments. At first, they were only using the leftovers, but they have now grown so desperate for power in the war that they are creating more experiments in an effort to make stronger soldiers. BIG also has a boarding school for students (BIG Cadet Academy for the Valiant or BCAftV) who will either fight or do science for them when they graduate. Mostly students learn propaganda about BIG, science, and combat skills, although all of the core classes are more or less there. At the academy, there is a lab. Some experiments are living in the lab for the students to use as test subjects in their lessons. But when a group of students becomes aware of these experiments plot for escape, they have to decide if they want to help or not. This roleplay will be about the days leading up to a small rebellion from students and experiments at BIG. If you have a half-baked, undeveloped idea for a character, don't worry because this is a perfect place for character development!
Your character can be a student or an experiment. While there is no limited number of characters, we ask that there only be up to eight experiments right now for smoothness and believability. Please consider if you will have time to commit to this roleplay before you join, especially if you're making an experiment character. Two of my characters are experiments, which leaves six experiment slots left as of right now. You don't need to have been in the old roleplay to join this one! If you were in the original roleplay, you can keep your character or make a new one. I'm also going to give you first dibs on experiment slots if you already had an experiment character for the next few days; that only seems fair.

Should we move to the next day in lab?
(June 26, 2024 - 9:57 am)
I guess we can move on soon, if you guys want to
*Zinnia*
"But what should we do..." said Avi. "Escape on the night of the dance?"
"When else?" Said Zinnia. "I say we get your student friends to unlock the doors somehow. I wonder if any of them can pick a lock - or steal a key, maybe... and once we're out of here, we sneak out the back and run for it."
~Colin~
"That's what I was thinking. What we're doing is supposed to help BIG, right? At least in the long term? But here are these experiments, and obviously they aren't happy with their lives... If I were one of them, BIG would be more like an enemy. And they're right here, within the academy. It doesn't feel right."
Colin raised his eyebrows. "But are you happy with your life here? Is anyone really happy at BIG? Or is that just the cost of progress?"
But then, what was progress? It sure didn't seem to be whatever the heck BIG was doing. Science was for helping people, not hurting them. And progress meant making things better, not worse.
"Take me, for example," Colin said. "I live for music. I like science and all, and it's what I'm best at, but music is what I love. Am I going to be a musician? No. I'm going to dedicate my life to science. And I'll do it for BIG. And when I die, I will be known as nothing more than a cog in the machine. That's what BIG is, Relven. The killer of passion and distinction. As we get older, I'll forget my love of music, and I'll forget about my crush on Tyra and my friendship with you. If you stay here, the same will happen to you. It will happen to all of us." Tears pricked at Colin's eyes. He turned away.
"I'm sorry," he said. "I can't seem to answer a question the normal way." He forced a chuckle.

Whatever works y'all!
-Avi-
"When else?" Zinnie said, agreeing. "I say we get your student friends to unlock the doors somehow. I wonder if any of them can pick a lock - or steal a key, maybe... and once we're out of here, we sneak out the back and run for it."
"Yeah." Avi nodded, thinking about it more. "Yeah, and then we can make a run for the woods or something, then regroup from there. Most of the teachers will be chaperoning anyway. And my guess is that they will have told the guards to look out for naughty students, so that's an advantage as well."

/Rel/
Colin looked skeptical. "But are you happy with your life here?" he asked. "Is anyone really happy at BIG? Or is that just the cost of progress?" He paused for a second. "Take me, for example. I live for music. It will happen to all of us." He turned, emotion evidently overtaking him. "I'm sorry," he added. "I can't seem to answer a question the normal way." He laughed briefly, but it didn't sound like he was laughing.
Rel was stunned. He hadn't been expecting anything like that. And he was happy here, wasn't he? He'd always thought so. He'd never seen BIG in the way that Colin had suddenly overflowed about. He'd never even dreamed that someone could see it in that way. For a second he couldn't even put his thoughts together in any coherent order. Then he put his hand awkwardly on Colin's arm. "Hey, um..." What could he say? If he really thought about it, was a life working for BIG actually what he wanted either? "Here, let's just ditch the rest of the class - it won't matter." He pulled Colin away from the clumps of students, until they were more or less alone. "Maybe you're right," he said slowly. "I mean, to be honest, I never saw it in that way, but after lab... something just didn't feel right. But it's not like we have to be here..." He already knew that his arguments weren't that convincing. Even to him.

Would it be okay to move into lab tomorrow after Colin and Rel finish their conversation?
~Colin~
Relven was quiet for a few moments, obviously stunned. Colin couldn't blame him; he was surprised at himself. He seemed to be gathering his thoughts, and eventually he put his hand on Colin's arm. "Hey, um…" He hesitated. "Here, let's just ditch the rest of class - it won't matter." He pulled Colin away from the other students. Once they were alone, he said, "Maybe you're right. I mean, to be honest, I never saw it in that way, but after lab... something just didn't feel right. But it's not like we have to be here..."
"Where else would we go? What other opportunities are there right now?" Colin ran his hands through his hair. "BIG seems to control everything. It's not as if we could just leave. My family wouldn't take me back."
He was serious; his family loved him, but it was a conditional love, and they wouldn't exactly be pleased if they learned Colin had actually quit school. Besides, where else was he to seek an education anywhere near as good as this one, filled with propaganda though it was? He fidgeted.
*Zinnia*
"Yeah." Avi nodded. "Yeah, and then we can make a run for the woods or something, then regroup from there. Most of the teachers will be chaperoning anyway. And my guess is that they will have told the guards to look out for naughty students, so that's an advantage as well."
"Perfect. So we have a plan. But we need to see if it can be executed."

Sure that's good with me, Peri!
-Avi-
He waited with excited anticipation, rather than the bitter anger and resentment he felt the day before. Avi kept his eyes glued to the door, waiting for his partners to walk through.
His mind ran scenerios at a hundred miles a minute and he caught the eye of Zinnia, who nodded and mouthed, "Remember the plan.". He nodded back.
Their scheme had officially begun.

&Leskie&
"Probably a scientist," Leskie said. Not the kind that experiments on innocent people though. But a scientist who makes discoveries that improves the world. "Or something to do with archery."
The rest of the class and day finished in relative peace, with nothing in particular to comment on. The morning flew by nicely as well, with a breakfast of eggs and bacon (and salad as a vegan option).
As Leskie left history class, which was a simple preview of the next history chapter, something to do with BIG's big discovery, she felt somewhat excited to go to lab. More than her usual fascination with science.
She opened the classroom door, spotting Avi immediately. Glancing at the whiteboard briefly to read the assignment (observe on yesterday's experiment to see what changed and how to improve on it and apply to BIG), she walked over to him. "Hey, Avi," she greeted.
(July 6, 2024 - 12:39 pm)
@Moon Wolf, did you want Aly and Lee to go to the dance together? If not, that's okay :) if so, Lee can totally ask!
if anyone wants to partner with Win or Zia, they definitely can! @Blackfooted Bobcat, I forgot if Altair already has a partner or not, but if not, then do you want Win to be with aem? Also, ae's experiment number is 136, right?
<~Win~>\
Win watched the other students file into lab, feeling a bit out of place -- a feeling he wasn't used to. He had skipped a lot of lab class in order to help plan the upcoming Spring Dance, and he didn't have a partner or an experiment to work with. The assignment for the day was to "observe on yesterday's experiment to see what changed and how to improve on it and apply to BIG", and Win wasn't entirely certain how to do that, having not been there the day before.
^Lee^
After she read the board's instructions, Kathleen skipped straight to Experiment 235, where Aly was already waiting. "Hello!!" she said, waving. "Since our experiment wasn't really one we can observe on again, what do you think we should do instead?" she asked. "Maybe brainstorm other ways -- besides camouflage -- the color changing can help BIG?"
(July 6, 2024 - 9:57 pm)
@Peri, do you want Cress and Adine to pair up again? I'm fine either way :)
/Rel/
"Where else would we go?" Colin demanded. "What other opportunities are there right now? BIG seems to control everything. It's not as if we could just leave. My family wouldn't take me back."
Rel didn't have an answer to that. His own family wouldn't want him to leave. I mean, come on, they were Sirions. They'd never let him drop out of one of the most prestigious academies in Kyngdom just because he had decided he *shock* Didn't Like BIG!!! And he still wasn't sure he wanted to commit to the idea that the whole BCA was in the wrong, though he knew in the back of his mind (or maybe in the back of his heart) that it was true. He sighed, and shrugged. "I know, Colin. But, hey, we're still friends." He glanced up. "I think they've finished archery. We should probably go back to class."
Maybe another lab class would help him clear everything up. The next morning, he came into lab with the rest of the students, looking around for Avi. He was standing to one side of the room, and Rel went over to him with a smile. "Hey, how's it going?" he asked.
(July 7, 2024 - 9:22 pm)
@Bobcat, can Colin and Spiderwort work together again? It's fine if not
~Colin~
"I know, Colin," Rel sighed, shrugging. "But hey, we're still friends." Rel looked back towards the other students. "I think they've finished archery. We should probably go back to class."
"Okay," Colin said quietly. The rest of the day passed without much event; and the next day, Colin headed back to lab class. Although he had always been somewhat unsettled by the experiments, today he had a stomachache and a sour taste in his mouth as he walked into the lab. He avoided eye contact with everyone and walked over to Via, forcing a smile. "Good morning, Via! How are you today?"
Via tilted back and forth, avoiding eye contact as she mumbled a greeting; she didn't seem to want to talk much today. Colin waited for Spidewort, who he figured he could just partner with again, to arrive.
*Zinnia*
Zinnia watched the two students walk over to Avi and greet him enthusiastically. Zinnia's own students had walked up and hadn't greeted them at all - no surprise there. Although it was true Avi's students would be coming over strictly for research purposes and that Zinnia was not exactly looking to find new best friends in these two, they had to admit they were excited to be rid of ignorant Lee and Aly. From what Avi had said, it sounded like his partners really listened. That would be a nice change of pace. Zinnia straightened their wings and watched Avi and the students closely.

yep! definitely. sorry it took so long to post this i'll try to get the next thing out sooner
(July 8, 2024 - 9:08 am)
@Amethyst, sorry I was super tired last night and totally forgot to respond to you or post Cress's POV! Yes that would be great
-Cress-
Cress walked up to Adine and greeted her with a nod. "Would you like to be partners again?"
(July 8, 2024 - 9:38 am)
-Avi-
Leskie entered the room first, and Avi couldn't help but smile. She spotted him immediately and walked over, pausing only shortly to read a whiteboard Avi couldn't read, nor cared to. She stopped in front of him. "Hey, Avi," Leskie said brightly.
"Hey Leskie. Long time no see." Avi opened his mouth to ask a question, perhaps make some small talk, when Relven walked through the door. Avi completely lost his train of thought and felt the tips of his ears warm slightly.
He tried to keep a neutral expression and master his emotions as Relven made the trek across the room. "Hey, how's it going?" The boy asked, smiling kindly. Leskie had stepped off to the side and seemed engaged in something else so Avi thought... well, hoped... she hadn't noticed his lapse in emotional concentration.
"Can't complain, Golden boy! Not when I live here." Avi said, gesturing to the dismal sight around them. He was being slightly sarcastic and a bit bitter too. "How about you?" He asked sincerely, and directed the question at a nearby lingering Leskie too.
