Sybill's Home~
Here, you'll see a cave with grass and trees growing on its roof. Some roots dangle in front of the entrance. You can see the flickers of a small fire deeper into the cave, and there are voices coming from in the cave.
All around, as far as anyone can see, are woods. It's actually quite pretty. Not to far away from the cave is a small pond that glitters.

Sorry I'm being so slow, school has been busy lately.
Rose~
I take my sword to the pond and wash all trace of blood from it, wiping the hilt as well to remove the memory of that meadow monster's grip. I sit by the water for a while, absentmindedly sliding a clump of grass over the clean blade as I think.
It was my failing. I was not wary enough at the meadow. I listened to the voices, allowed myself to sleep, Claaws take it, while the... what did the dragon call them? Spider spirit folk. While they murdered Yin. I was not careful enough coming, not strong enough to resist, not fast enough running when their spell was thrown off. A tear slips unbidden between my lashes.
Because of my weakness, Lilly is gone and now so is Yin.
I raise my sword in front of me, hold it up to the sky and begin a silent vow.
I will avenge the death of Sybill's sister as I did my own, or do everything in my power to help Sybill towards the same end. Blood for blood, a life for a life. The debt will be paid. I swear it on my sword.
I carry the blade shining back to the caves, and as I approach, a piping melody drifts through the trees. It still sounds distanced when I arrive, but not so far as to be from the meadow, and there is no magical draw.
Yin's body is gone. I find Sybill slumped in a corner of her cave, her eyes leaking though closed.
"May I enter?"
"Mmn."
It is the same answer Lilly has given me a hundred times. I step inside, but not too close. Sit down half facing away. Say nothing.
Finally, Sybill speaks. "Mmokay."
I nod, then recall that she cannot see me. "Mhm."
Another moment of silence. Then, "My ribs hurt."
"Would you like me to leave?"
"Mh."
"All right." I rise and give Sybill her space. The music still continues. I sheath my sword and go to find its source.
Following the sound, I come across a woven dome of vines and flowers, studded with colored bits of broken glass. Scattered rays of sun dance on the mound below. Albero plays an accordion beside it.
The music pauses. "Where's Sybill?"
"She is at the caves. Something of her ribs hurting."
Albero resumes playing. I stand in the shifting light, and look, and listen.
"It's really... beautiful," I whisper. Something asks to be said. "And... you're not bad at that accordion."
"Thank you."
I stay and listen for as long as he plays.
(March 1, 2018 - 5:16 pm)
Sybill ~
I blink awake. Ah, it appears I have fallen asleep.
I stand up, slowly, and I hear music. I head outside the caves, where I can hear it clearer. I follow it to its source...Albero.
He stands with an accordion, in a green dome of plants, flowers, and glass. Rose is there, too.
And so is Yin.
I bend down to her grave, and read it.
I turn to Albero.
"Thank you."
" it is my honor. As for avenging Yin, I do believe the best way to do it is to go to the meadow. "
"Thanks, again."
~
(March 3, 2018 - 8:03 am)
Look up Guy Klucevsek. He's an insanely good accordionist. I recommend Samba D Hiccup, Ratatatatouille (the album version, not live) and Larsong (which happens to be a song written in memory of a friend of his, Lars Holmer, a Swedish accordionist who is/was also good).
Rose~
I do not hear Sybill's approach over the accordion. She walks to her sister's grave and looks at the headstone. Turns to Albero.
"Thank you."
"It is my honor," he graciously replies. "As for avenging Yin, I do believe the best way to do it is to go to the meadow."
"Thanks, again," Sybill says, and turns to me. I speak before she can.
"I will go with you. I know the loss. I failed as well, not only Lilly, but myself, you, and Yin. I will not rest easy until things are set right."
Sybill inclines her head. "Thank you. I really appreciate it."
I nod in return. "It is my honor." Then, turning to face the exit of the dome, I judge the hour. "There is still time in this day to set out now."
(March 4, 2018 - 8:47 pm)
Sybill ~
"I will go with you. I failed as well, not only Lilly, but myself, you and Yin. I will not rest easy until things are set right," Rose says. I disagree, she did not fail me. I am still alive.
" thank you. I really appreciate it, " I reply. I don't think I can thank her enough.
"It is my honor," Rose says , "There is still time in this day to set out now."
" I do believe you are correct, Rose. I suggest using silver weapons. I heard somewhere silver was strong against ghosts...I think. Maybe not. I mean, it's just a superstiton, and the spider spirit folk might not be ghosts, but it's worth a try, Albero suggests.
" Um, I think we might have a silver knife...somewhere, " I say.
"I have a silver dagger that's been sitting in my cellar for quite some time. Sybill, you get your knife, I'll get the dagger, Rose...sharpen your weapons, I suppose. We can meet at the pond," Albero says.
" Alright, " Rose assents.
I walk back to the caves, pausing in Yin's room. I pick up some of her bandages, replace my old ones, and close my eyes in sadness.
I whisper to her softly, "I do not know if you can hear me. But I vow to avenge your death."
I think I feel her, brushing against my pelt. It comforts me. When I open my eyes, though, nothing is there.
I make my way to the storage cave, where I carefully walk around piles of...stuff. Until I find the knife.
When I finally get back to the pond, Albero and rose are waiting for me.
"Ready?" I ask, giving Rose the knife.
" I'm ready, " Rose replies.
"Good luck," Albero says , "You might need it with the spiders."

(March 5, 2018 - 3:43 pm)
Sorry for not posting. Or letting you know what's going on, Claaws, that was terrible of me... Anyway. I'm suddenly busy again, got blindsided by a big overdue homework project. It's Friday now, though, so hopefully the weekend will bring some relief. Sorry again.
Rose~
"I do believe you are correct, Rose," Albero agrees. "I suggest using silver weapons. I heard somewhere that silver was strong against ghosts... I think. Maybe not. I mean, it's just a superstition, and the spider spirit folk might not be ghosts, but it's worth a try."
I nod. I recall one of Mother's friends telling the same once.
"Um, I think we might have a silver knife... uhhh... somewhere," Sybill offers.
"I have a silver dagger that's been sitting in my cellar for quite some time. Sybill, you get your knife, I'll get the dagger, Rose... sharpen your weapons, I suppose. We can meet at the pond," Albero instructs.
"All right," I approve, and fetch my sword, a whetstone and my small shield.
I bring it back to the pond, and Sybill soon arrives, bearing the knife.
"Ready?" she asks.
I accept the blade. "I'm ready."
"Good luck," Albero says. "You might need it with the spiders."
I allow the faintest touch of a smile to show, which Albero returns before leaving.
"Let us go," I say to Sybill, and we do.
The meadow remains serene and lovely, despite the evil it hides. We retrace our path, find the clearing. It is quiet. Empty.
"Do you sense anything?" I ask, keeping my voice low. Sybill stands very still.
~The thing about silver is a belief that silver repels evil, which is why a modern-day vampire would have a reflection; mirrors used to be backed with silver, but nowadays it's aluminum.
(March 9, 2018 - 5:20 pm)
Okay. I had only heard that it was deadly to ghosts. Thanks.
Also, I heard that there was some other type of metal that repelled ghosts? I can't remember what it was. I think it started with an a...
Sybill~
"Do you sense anything?" Rose asks quietly. I stand perfectly still.
I shake my head no.
We stand for a couple more minutes, when the hissing starts. It has the same strange sticky and sweet feeling to it as the voices.
"Follow me," I whisper.
Rose and I creep through the meadow, until we reach the spot where the hissing is loudest. The flowers are blackened, and at the center of the blackened flowers is a pile of ash. I do believe this is where Rose and I were standing before.
The hissing forms into words, loud enough for both Rose and I to hear.
"Lay down your weapons...close your eyes..."
Although a small part of me wishes to obey them, I ignore the words and stand at the edge of the ash pile.
The ash begins to move around by a non-existent breeze. The spirits are stirring.
And then one dark figure appears. I cant see any features of its face except for a fanged smile.
"Hello..." It whispers.
~
(March 9, 2018 - 7:02 pm)
You're welcome! I love little bits of folklore like that.
An a? ...Nothing comes to mind. Well, amaranth does, but that's a kind of seed. *shrugs*
Rose~
Sybill shakes her head ever so slightly no. We both know this doesn't mean they won't come. And so we wait. It's not long before she whispers "Follow me."
We pad softly into a burnt circle of flowers, ash gathered in the center. The whispering has begun again. Nothing moves, but the pull of voices at our eyelids, at our wills.
Lay down your weapons... peace, calm... close your eyes and rest a little while...
Sybill steps to the edge of the ashes. I do not release my grip on the silver knife, or my steel dagger. I do not close my eyes.
Something rises from the ashes. A dark, shapeless figure with a sharp-toothed smile.
Hello...
I step forward with my blades ready. The figure shifts, its smile turning towards me.
Peace...
I raise the silver knife. The figure's voice has more power than the others, but Lilly's voice sings inside me and Yin watches in the distance. Sybill looks at me, with apparent effort.
"Shall I?" I ask, suddenly less certain.
(March 15, 2018 - 8:45 am)
Sybill ~
"Shall I?" Rose asks.
Dont say yes....
Dont reply....
The voice hisses, its hjdeous parody of a smile facing me.
"Do it." My voice rings out, overpowering the creature's hisses.
I can almost feel Yin nodding. I swivel my head aorund, but theres nothing.
And then Rose plunges the knife into the creature.
It lets out a hideous scream, and black dust swirls around us, as if we are in the Eye of a hurricane.
The other two figures appear, monstrous fangs gleaming in the storm.
The beasts launch themselves at us. Rose plunges the dagger into hers and it screams. More dust appears.
The final spirit swipes a hideous black paw at us, screeching. I leap away, then pounce on the hideous thing.
It screeches, and it vanishes. Its not part of the storm like the others.
The storm closes in on us, and a black wall of dust blocks me from Rose. Its getter faster, And closer....
And then it hits.
~
When I finally open my eyes, I find myself in a cavern. But it's not like home.
The rocks are so black they are darker than even the night skg. Glowing red symbols are carved into them, and strange words in a different language.
On the flat wall in front of me, there is a sentence thing carved into the rock. These words are brighter than the rest.
They say, Vēbanē spina karō, bhāvinē cōrī karō.
Underneath it , in smaller red letters, is Spin The Web, Steal The Fate.
I have a feeling this is the spider spirit lair.
Behind me I hear shuffling. I turn around to see Rose, sitting up.
"Come look at this," I call. She stands up, blinking, and walks over to me.
she reads it.
"Oh. I suppose this tells us where we are, " She replies grimly.
"Yeah. It's the murderer's lair."
~
Used Google translate. The words are actually Spin the web, Steal the fate, in a language called Gujarati. I imagine the other words would be in Gujarati, too.
Coco says "Whac." It's rude to whack people, Coco!
(March 15, 2018 - 3:13 pm)
Rose~
Don't say yes, the voices whisper to Sybill, don't reply.
Do it, she says firmly, a command and a warning, a display of strength.
I do not hesitate. I stab the creature with knife and dagger, and it shrieks. Its body dissolves into a fine black powder, which is caught by an unfelt wind and flies about us, a blizzard in negatives.
Two more creatures appear, the whisperers of the web, and lunge. I stab the one closest to me, which dissapates into dust as the first with the same inhuman cry, and Sybill leaps at the other with claws and fangs bared, but it does not turn to powder. It merely disappears.
The dust closes in. It surrounds Sybill and I, coming between us, stinging our faces and leaving dark streaks on my armor. I hold up the knife and squint. For a moment, all I see is black. Then the dust reappears, and slowly spins away into nothing. Only we are no longer in the meadow.
It is dark. I can see but little. Red letters provide the only light, save for what is reflected off of my armor and my blades, and Sybill's eyes. I am no longer standing. I raise myself into a seated position.
"Come look at this," Sybill calls. Her voice echoes slightly.
I rise to my feet and walk to her side. A few especially bright words glow from the stone wall before us. I do not know the language, but a translation sits helpfully beneath.
Spin the Web, Steal the Fate.
The words yet mean little to me, save that they are quite apparently related to the spider spirits.
"Oh, I suppose this tells us where we are," I remark.
"Yeah," Sybill says. "It's the murderer's lair."
I glance around. There is no visible immediate exit, although a passage seems to open up on the left. "Lovely place. Scenic."
Sybill gives me a look.
"I was attempting irony," I explain. She rolls her eyes. I acknowledge and point to the doorway.
"Let us see what lies that way."
Sybill agrees, and we enter the passage. It is dimmer here, and no more pleasant, but it is wide enough for us to walk side by side, and so we do, senses open and weapons ready, the walls amplifying our footsteps.
And then, the whispers.
~Gujarati is an Indo-European language, so probably not one that Rose is familiar with. Also, I think I had a dream like this once? A cave, a distant threat, a few others around, and me sitting and failing to land a sarcastic joke.
(March 19, 2018 - 2:35 pm)
Sybill~
My eyes slowly adjust to the dark tunnel. As we walk, I hear little footsteps, and the occasional whisper of noise. It's in a strange language, and I don't understand it.
The tunnel gradually widens, until Rose and I find ourselves in another cavern. This one lacks glowing red letters. But this cavern is much brighter than the previous.
For lights, there are glowing red gems inlaid into the walls, with the occasional white gem scattered here and there.
It gives the room an eerie, otherworldly light.
We advance, carefully. In the center of the cavern is a round, large, circular table made of marble. On it is a simple round box.
"What's in here?" I wonder aloud , looking at the box. Fortunatley, the table is rather low to the ground for most tables, and it is easy for me to observe the box.
Rose must bend slightly.
"I can't say I believe opening it would be wise," Rose replies, studying the box carfeully.
After a pause, Rose gains a look of interest on her face. "Look," she says.
carved on the box it says, 'Open.'
"Does this mean we should open it?" I ask. It's getting hard for me to resist not opening it.
" I am still unsure if that would be safe, " Rose replies.
I touch the box gingerly with my nose.
Npthing happens.
"Seems safe," I remark.
~
(March 19, 2018 - 4:20 pm)
Rose~
The passage widens into another cave at its end, this one with red and white jewels set into the walls for light. It takes the rough shape of a pointed oval, with a round stone table in the center, atop which sits a box. I am reminded uncomfortably of an eye.
Sybill nods all clear, and we move forward.
"What's in here?" she wonders aloud, inspecting the box. I bend to observe it. It appears to be made from the same marble as its plinth, but intricately carved with I know not what.
"I can't say I believe opening it would be wise," I murmur. Then I see it. "Look!"
Among the twisting lines is carved the word 'open'. Sybill reads it.
"Does this mean we should open it?" she asks. Certainly something wants us to. I can tell Sybill is curious.
"I am still uncertain if that would be safe," I warn.
She taps the box with the tip of her nose. I stifle a sharp inhale, but nothing happens.
"Seems safe," she says.
"That doesn't mean it is," I caution, scanning the box for more words. I find none.
"What's the worst that could happen?" Sybill asks, sounding irritated.
"Opening it causes the ceiling to collapse or the spide--" On an impulse, I look up and around.
"What is it?" Sybill whispers, ears pricked, following my gaze.
"The box could be a distraction, allowing the spider spirit folk to catch us unawares."
"Then you keep watch and I'll open it."
"I see nothing. Do you hear anything?"
We pause.
"No," Sybill says.
"Then we'll open it together and be done with it," I whisper. "I could live without knowing, but I know you don't want to."
She looks at me gratefully, and we turn back to the table.
(March 23, 2018 - 7:15 am)
Sybill~
Her fingers slide under the latch, and I do my best to help as the lid lifts. The box is lined with velvet cushion.
"What's in it?" I ask.
Rose bends down over it, and squints. "A... button."
" a button? " I ask, disappointed.
"A button," She asserts.
" take it out, " I beg, "Please?"
" Alright, " Rose says, and lifts up a large brass button. On it is a dragon. It resembles...Albero?
"Is that Albero on it?" I say.
" I wouldn't knkw. But he did say that his stuff was stolen, correct? " Rose asks.
"Correct."
" So perhaps it was his, although I can't say I'm sure a dragon could wear a button. "
Then I hear footsteps.
"Rose! Footsteps!" I whisper. We both stare towards the tunnell at the other end of the cave, the one we haven't been through.
Someone's here!
Tē śum che?
Can't be sure. Let's check.
I feel a presence, and two spider things reveal themselves.
"Chēllē!" The ones voice loses the ethereal pull.
" your voice..., " The other reminds it.
"Manē padī nathī tē'ō ahīm chē!"
" Oh, alright then. " They drift in front of us. The normal language speaking one is Cleary injured, and he glares at me. Right, I must have bitten thAt one.
" Hēlō, mitrō... "
~
(March 23, 2018 - 11:56 am)
Rose~
I put my blades away. Slowly, carefully, I loosen the box's lid. Cautiously, patiently, I lift it.
"What's in it?" Sybill asks.
"A button."
"A button?" She sounds as though she expected it to be treasure, or a magical object, or a way out.
"A button," I confirm.
"Take it out. Please?" Sybill requests.
"All right," I say, and comply.
"Is that Albero on it?"
I look. It is a dragon, certainly. "I wouldn't know. But he did say that most of his belongings were stolen, correct?"
"Correct."
"So perhaps it was his, although I'm not sure how a dragon could wear a button."
"Rose! Footsteps!" Sybill replies. I drop into a stance, draw the silver knife, return the button to its palace.
I hear indistinct whispers from the passage across from our entry. Something enters, and turns out to be a pair of spider spirits.
Chēllē! One declaims.
Your voice... The other tells it.
Manē padī nathī tē'ō ahīm chē! The first persists.
Oh, all right, then, the second concedes.
The two move closer.
Hēlō, mitrō--
I do not wait for either of them to continue. I lunge with the knife, burying it in the spirit nearest me. Both of them shriek. Caught up in it, Sybill barks wordlessly. I hear something from the unexplored tunnel. More whispers.
(March 26, 2018 - 7:21 am)
Sybill~
I turn my head towards the tunnel. The whispers are gradually growing louder.
"Lets go forwards. Catch them off guard, get there before them, you know?" I say.
Rose nods, weapons already drawn. We advance and the whispers are incredibly loud. I pause, listen, and continue.
Somethings here...
Get ready...
come On!
Before encountering any spider folk, we enter a large hall. At one end is a black throne. This room contains both gems and glowing words. On the throne is a massive spider thing. Atop it's head is a golden crown, studded with red and black gems. I imagine it couldn't have worn a silver one.
By the leaders throne is a figure, it's legs folded up, it's arms resting on its legs. It wore a sedge hat, with symbols on it. Over its face is a cloth, with a black handprint painted on it.
It sits quietly.
The king grins viciously.
Kill them...
"No." The figure interjects. It doesn't appear to be a spider spirit. After all, it seems to have a solid form.
You dare defie your King?
"You are not my king. I have no ruler," It hisses. It seems to be female. The king glares sharply at her.
What is that thing, if its no spirit?
