Sybill's Home~

Sybill's Home~

Here, you'll see a cave with grass and trees growing on its roof. Some roots dangle in front of the entrance. You can see the flickers of a small fire deeper into the cave, and there are voices coming from in the cave.

All around, as far as anyone can see, are woods. It's actually quite pretty. Not to far away from the cave is a small pond that glitters.

Sybill ~

I sit down next to Rose.

"Frankly, I don't know what to say. I would say 'I'm sorry', but I feel like that would be..unbelievable," I said truthfully.

after all, they say not to lie.

And Rose seems to...calm. Collect herself.

~Okay I literally have no idea what to type

Then I'll take a shot.

Rose~

"Frankly... I don't know what to say," Sybill admits. "I would say 'I'm sorry', but I feel like that would be... unbelievable."

It's odd; her few, simple words have more effect than every soliloquy full of horror and pity and every gesture of money, food and flowers Mother and her friends once let loose. I take a deep breath, look up, let it go.

"More unbelievable than that her spirit comes back to haunt me?"

"I... Is that what happened?"

"Yes. She is who you heard me conversing with."

There is quiet while Sybill digests this information.

"What was her name?"

"Lilly." I swallow. "Her name was Lilly."

~Aaand scene! Or not. Your choice. End the conversation, have Yin come out, skip ahead a few hours, keep talking, whatever you like.

Sybill~

Lilly.

Wow.

That's a pretty name.

And then Yin appears.

"Hello." Her voice has a happy, sing-songish tune to it.

" Hello, "I reply.

" I've got something to show you! " Yin says. Rose and I stand up. Yin carefully leads us somewhere, using a well-worn path I have personally never used before. Yin always used it, she claimed that there were abundant herbs along it. As we walked I did notice herbs growing here and there in large groups.

We stopped at the edge of a cliff. I looked down and saw a fast running river. The view was breath taking, but obviously that wasn't what Yin was excited about. I looked to my left, where Yin was, and saw what Rose and her were looking at. There was a small hut in the woods. It had walls that were made of birch bark and a roof of vines tangled together.

"Wow...," I said.

~Perhaps this home could be my new charrie's home... All I need is a name for the charrie, I think I've designed the rest of him good. I have some ideas for a name, too.

Rose~

A bird starts up its voice, and Yin enters the clearing.

"Hello," she chirps, happy as the bird.

"Hello," Sybill replies.

"I've got something to show you!" Yin invites. Sybill and I accept, following her down a clear trail to a water-carved ravine. Yin takes no notice, instead walking alongside it until she reaches a run-down hovel made of vines and bark.

"Wow..." Sybill breathes.

I merely blink. Just then, something moves inside the empty doorframe. I instinctively drop into a fighting stance.

"What is it?" Sybill asks. Yin frowns.

"I know not," I answer softly. I call to Yin; "Take caution, some creature stirs inside."

As though objecting to such a label, the thing moves again, and I ready myself to cleave its life from its body.

~It would be amazing if a dragon poked its head out. I don't know how Rose would react, though. What are your name ideas?

“Lilly!” Leva shouts. “You can’t keep going back! Death will make sure that it doesn’t end on a happy note.”

I stare at the white wall, continuing to say nothing.

“Please Lilly,” Heather begs. “You mustn’t keep on doing this.”

“You do realise she’ll take it out on more than one person?” Baron asks.

“I feel no sympathy,” Poe Allen announces from the corner. “None whatsoever.”

“Poe,” Leva hisses. “Not now-“

“I don’t!” he exclaims in boyish annoyance. “You think I don’t miss Alexandria? But I don’t go down whenever Death’s back is turned just to see her. That makes it more painful. You need to suck it up, Lilly. You have the discipline of a child-“

“SHUT UP!” I yell, suddenly standing up. “SHUT YOUR MOUTH BEFORE I SHUT IT FOR YOU.”

Poe looks taken aback but regains his cold posture and face.

“Don’t you see?” I exclaim.

Their faces are blank, and I cry out in aggravation. “We have to help. We can’t just stay up here forever. What is up with Death? There’s no way she’s all powerful. There MUST be a way to defeat her. We have to live again!”

“It’s not that easy,” a new voice says in the back.

I turn. Rieux.

“We all made a deal with Death. We can’t just go back. Even what you’ve been doing, you haven’t exactly had a physical impact.”

“Whelp,” Poe says, standing up. “I’ve made up my mind. I’m going back down to...tell Karune to no longer interact with you.”

I scoff. “Sure.”

He continues to walk out when I realise he’s not joking.

No. No, no, no. He’s going to give Karune nightmares. I know he is. He’s going to repeat that scene of the day I died over and over again in her head until she can’t bear any memory of herself or me.

I can’t let her suffer like that.

I can’t watch her slowly die.

Poe’s out the door, and I scowl before Leva throws me a random sword.

I run out after him, and while Death is occupied, go back to Karune.

~

I hear Karune and her friends laughing about something in a hut near the woods. I shudder before looking for Poe before I see his figure going towards the hut.

I run after him and kick him in the back. He falls forward and shouts in frustration, drawing the attention of those inside.

“LILLY, BACK DOWN!”

He’s angry. He’s really angry.

“No!” I shout back. I swing my sword blindly at him. He dodges it. “You don’t understand!”

“I do!” he replies, taking a sharp tree branch and swinging it back. “But I’m not going to let your visits risk all of us.”

“And I’m not letting you destroy my sister!”

I shout and swing the sword, and soon a large fight ensues. I hear people run down to us, before they realise they can’t do anything. I can almost FEEL Karune’s worry on the back of my neck.

“Lilly,” she whispers sadly. Others wouldn’t hear her. But I certainly can.

I close my eyes slowly and breathe. With one swipe, I’ve defeated Poe Allen, and he’s back to Death.

I drop the sword shakily as it disappears. I turn, tears trickling slowly down my face.

“Karune...” The weight of everything caused me to collapse. “KARUNE KARUNE KARUNE WHY DID YOU HAVE TO LEAVE ME!”

I’m sobbing bitterly now. “Why’d I have to leave you?” I add with a whisper.

I hear rustling and I look up, her body hugging where my body is supposed to be physically there. Where I’m supposed to be alive.

Suddenly I feel myself fading away. Again. But this time, it’s harder for me to bear.

“Karune,” I whimper, still crying. “Don’t let her take me.” I sound like I did when I was a child. “Please.”

~

“Lilly,” Death bellows. “Come. Now.”

I walk up to her, with my head down.

She clicks her tongue. “Lilly, the Girl Who Defied Death. You will pay for this.”

Sybill~

Yin steps away from the hut, alarmed. And suddenly she laughs.

Rose looks offended.

"Since I am blind, my other scenses have...improved. The creature inside isn't very large, and is walking away from us."

" Oh! " I exclaim. And suddenly there are the sounds of fighting.

We all run towards them. And then I see what is going on.

There's nothing we can do. Rose is suddenly sobbing. Two...ghosts? Are fighting. One has a sword. Yin swivels her head around.

"Sybill! Sybill! What's going on! I..I hear...," She sobs as another yell echoes. She's so stressed , not being able to see if help. And the noises...they're even louder for her.

And suddenly I'm falling to the ground. It's too much.

Then I realize.

The girl is Ross's little sister.

I stand up, only Lily is there. She's fading.

Rose is hugging her fading form, trying to hold onto it. Lily is crying.

I run up to Rose as Lily disappears.

There's nothing Yin or I can do. I lead Rose up to Yin. Yin is standing. Her fur is wet with tears. She sniffles and we go back to the hut.

Rose collects herself. So does Yin.

Good thing we do.

Because suddenly a fluffy brown-furred furry Dragon pokes his head out. It's large, he must walk softly, that was why Yin thought he was small. He has a green muzzle, ear tips, and eyes.

He steps all the way out to reveal he has brown, green tipped angelic wings, his feet are green, and his tail tip is green.

Rose~

Yin moves a step towards Sybill and I, stops. Laughs. I am scandalized; does she not realize the danger? The thing in that hovel could leave Sybill like me in a moment.

I have not hidden my indignant wrath, and Yin explains, "The creature inside is not very large, and is walking away from us."

"Oh!" Sybill says, and just before I open my mouth to argue that size and direction are not accurate indicators of threat level, there are shouts behind us.

I half turn, facing the ravine, and see to my right a boy on the ground, attacked by... my sister?

"Lilly!" the boy shouts. "Back down!"

"No!" she screams in reply, swinging a sword--where did she get a sword? She's handling it wrong, in any case--"You don't understand!"

The boy dodges with ease, despite his position, grabs a freshly fallen branch and stabs back at my Lilly, sharp end first. A wordless cry escapes my throat and I rush to defend her, only to pass right through him. He is a spirit, a shade, one of the dead. As Lilly is.

"I do!" he yells. But I'm not going to let your visits risk all of us!" I frown. Surely he is mistaken. Lilly would not endanger others only to see me. Would she?

"And I'm not letting you destroy my sister!" My heart catches. The boy is a demon, and my Lilly a guardian angel. As I once guarded her.

She holds her own better than I expected against the ghost boy; he fights with skill, as though used to combat. My limbs quiver with tension as I watch. I am helpless, can do nothing.

"Lilly," I murmur. She screws her eyes shut and plunges her sword through the boy. His coal-black hair waves as his form dissolves.

"Karune..." she weeps. "Karune! Karune! Karune! Why did you have to leave me?" I reach forward uselessly as she slumps. "Why'd I have to leave you?"

I step forward and try to hug her. My arms close around empty space; she is not here. But she seems to calm slightly.

"Karune, don't let her take me," she sobs, mournful as a wet kitten.

"I won't," I try to whisper, but it does no good. My voice sits trapped and my sister is gone.

Sybill runs up beside me. Leads me to Yin. I have succumbed to tears, but now I collect myself; it will not do to whine and wail when something unknown could double the tragedy.

And then it shows itself. Huge and furred, but not a bear. I stare at its strange colors and nearly cartoonish proportions as it reveals more and more of itself. A winged serpent with four feet and a snakelike body, it stands before us muddy brown and acid green in the daylight and hisses.

~Rose is horrified and unappreciative of this dragon and its home, and also emotionally devastated from Lilly and Poe's appearance. She's never admit it, or maybe even know it, being blinded by love, but Lilly is doing as much damage to her psyche as Poe probably would. Needless to say, she's not in a very good mood right now and has only ever heard of dragons as hideous, evil monsters. I wouldn't be surprised if she responded negatively to everything in the next couple of days. And things were going so well, too... *sighs* *laughs, a bubbling giggle, and rubs hands together with an evil smile* This is wonderful!

This will be fun! I can imagine it, Sybill going insane (ever since the fire, her mental stability hasn't been the best) and her and Rose destroying the Resistance!

I love things like that.

Sybill~

I blink. Rose's lips turn back into a snarl. Yin...well, Yin is Yin, as always.

The dragonish thing blinks back.

"Who are you?" It asks, strangely calm.

Rose clenches her hands into fists.

Yin, having no idea what it is, says, "I am Yin. The wolf is Sybill, the human is Rose."

I feel dread pool in me.

The serpent studies us, a kind look in his eyes.

Strange.

"I'm Albero," He finally says.

Rose clenches and unclenches her fists, unsure.

The Dragon spreads out his wings and grins.

"So....Hello?" He says, grinning.

And I grin back.

~Ta-da! Have fun!

Ooh, yes! Make sure Sybill's descent is slow--start with a fear of fire, maybe, and we can have her and Rose become really close friends. Oh, maybe PTSD? They might both have that, inciting incidents being the fire and Lilly's death, and Rose was already developing paranoia. They don't even have to be crazy to become villains, but it helps.

Rose~

The dragon blinks. "Who are you?" Its voice is smooth rather than harsh and broken as I had imagined, but I find no oil in it, either. It might set me on edge but for that I already am.

Yin apparently cannot tell that it is a monster. She answers it blithely. "I am Yin. The other wolf is Sybill, the human is Rose."

The dragon runs his evil yellow eyes over us. "I'm Albero," he says. I am uncertain of what to do with my hands. The dragon opens his hideous wings. "So.. hello?" He reveals wickedly sharp teeth in a grim parody of a smile. Sybill bares her teeth in response.

"Hello!"

My gaze flickers over to her, an incredulous message she does not notice.

"Nice to meet you."

The dragon rumbles. "The pleasure is mine."

I am confused. "Sybill, what are you doing? He's a dragon! He'll kill us all!" I hiss.

"No, he won't," she murmurs back. "He just wants to be friends."

I do not lower my guard. "Dragon, whence came you and what is your desire?"

His attention is on me. If he attacks, I will bear the blow while Sybill and Yin see their folly and abscond.

~My autocorrect hates Albero's name. XD

Sybill ~

Albero studies Rose for a moment before replying. He replies with his own question.

"Aren't the woods pretty?" He asked.

" Ye- Wait, you're stalling! " Rose says. She steps forwards, furious.

"Dragons are known to be clever, aren't we? Anyways, these woods are beautiful. Marvelous. The perfect place for a dragon as charming as me to live," Albero says.

" Ha! " I reply.

Albero gives me a grin. Rose blinks, but still remains on guard.

Albero looks her dead in the eye and says, "Not all those silly stories about dragons are true."

Rose steps back, still wary.

Sorry I kept you waiting!

Rose~

The monster stares directly at me. I meet the challenge of its gaze, and it blinks first. "Not all those silly stories about dragons are true."

I take a step back. "You are not trustworthy for that alone."

The dragon snorts. "You have a point."

"I do," I warn. "They are many, and ready, and some are for the flesh rather than the wit."

The dragon eyes me as though he'd not seen me yet.

Albero~

I look at Rose. I believe she is trying to protect her friends.

"Your name couldn't be more perfect. It describes you in the fullest. A rose is what you are, all prickly and thorny on the outside, but absolutely beautiful on the inside," I reply.

The girl is still on her guard, but more relaxed. Her hands aren't curled into fists.

Sybill looks at Rose.

"See? Albero just wants to be nice!" Sybill says.

I rumble in a deep laugh.

Yin, the blind one, looks at Rose.

"Rose...If you want to be wary, be wary. But please be willing to try to be Albero`s friend." Yin speaks softly. My ears tilt forwards to hear her sweet, melodic voice.

" Oh! Where are my manners? Come inside, please, " I say.

Sybill and Yin immeaditly  go in, Rose warily stepping in, keeping a close eye on me.

I have some tea already made, I pour some in cups for each of them. I take some herbs and sprinkle them on top.

"Enjoy," I say.

~Ta-da!! I do think that Sybill and Yin may be able to convince Rose to tolerate Albero.

Rose~

"Your name couldn't be more perfect," the dragon says. "It describes you in the fullest. All prickly and thorny on the outside, but absolutely beautiful within."

I relax my posture, but I am no more at ease than before. The dragon's flattery is doubtless one of its tricks.

Sybill looks at me expectantly. "See? Albero just wants to be nice!"

The dragon produces a rumbling sound, a concealed growl lurking in its depths. Yin turns her face in my general direction.

"Rose, if you want to be wary, be wary. But please be willing to try to be Albero's friend." The dragon watches her greedily, hungrily.

"Oh! Where are my manners? Come inside, please."

Sybill and Yin follow the dragon obediently. "Into the dragon's lair," I mutter, but go in after. If the dragon attacks, I must defend them.

The dragon pours tea, already prepared save for an herb he adds before serving us and himself. I watch him drink while pretending to sip my own, an art I have mastered thanks to Mother's endless parties. Yin and Sybill do not appear to suspect either poison or potion.

"Ah, chamomile and mint," Yin smiles.

"You like it?" the dragon asks.

"Yes," Sybill and Yin respond, almost simultaneously. "Very much," Sybill adds.

"And you, Rose?" the dragon inquires.

"I've had worse."

The dragon looks unsettlingly pleased. "That's high praise!" he laughs. Sybill and Yin laugh along. I look on unmoved.

Small talk ensues, which I maneuver through expertly. I go as far as taking a real sip from my cup; no one has shown any sign of ill effects, and I trust Yin would have asked about anything she didn't recognize or know to be safe. She and Sybill reveal far too much of themselves in the conversation, but the dragon makes no slip, no indication of ill intention. I spin schemes and set traps, but he eluded them all. I begin to truly relax, despite myself.

Sybill ~

Albero listens patiently as we chat. Rose is wary, but after a while she slowly begins to relax.

"So, Albero, anything interesting going on around here?" Yin asks, casually .

"Hmm, not from what I can tell. Still, I've been careful, I don't want to be caught off guard by some evil beast or whatever," Albedo replies.

He is being truthful. I wonder if I should tell him about the ghosts. I decide against it. Even if it did happen in his backyard, I don't believe Rose would enjoy me talking about her poor, sweet little sister.

"Good, good. We are lucky to have peace," I say.

" shall we be going? " Yin says.

"Stay as long as you would like," Albero replies happily .

"Actually, why don't you come with us, Albero?" I ask. Albero is a fine and happy soul, and I doubt my parents would mind him.

" what a good idea!! We have gotten a guest cave, too. I'm certain it's big enough for you. " Yin replies.

I don't think she could be certain about that because she is blind, but I keep myself from saying that. I personally know that Yin was correct and Albero will fit, as long as he doesn't stand on his back legs.

"It sounds delightful," Albero replies.

Rose thinks for a moment and finally says, " I suppose he could come with us. " I give her a grateful look for not causing a fight.

"So, Albero, anything interesting going on around here?" Yin inquires.

"Hmm, not from what I can tell," he ponders. "Still, I've been careful. I don't want to get caught off guard by some evil beast or whatever."

"Good, good, we are lucky to have peace," Sybill says.

Yin shifts. "Shall we be going?

"Stay as long as you like," the dragon encourages.

"Actually, why don't you come with us, Albero?" Sybill invites.

"What a good idea!" Yin agrees. "We have a guest cave, too. I'm sure it's big enough for you."

The dragon accepts. "It sounds delightful."

I am uncertain. Allowing him into the space where we sleep... He might attack. But he's lived nearby, and hinted that he knew about Sybill and Yin already. He has been calm throughout our visit. I could keep an eye on him if he was closer.

"I suppose he could come with us," I assent. Sybill shoots me a thankful look. I acknowledge her and rise.

"Let's go, then." Yin follows my example.

"Thank you for the tea." I bow to Albero. He returns it with a gracious bob.

"You're very welcome."

We walk in single file back to the caves. I retreat to a nearby clearing to practice my hand-to-hand combat while Sybill, Yin and the dragon confirm that the guest cave is suitable. If I am needed, Sybill will howl.
