Kyngdom Survival Guide

I run through

Chatterbox: KYNGDOM™ RP Board

I run through

I run through the Forest, looking for the ruins. This would normally have been a hard task for anyone, but it's two days before the the next full moon, and my senses are better than ever. I see the outline of a tower in the distance, and run towards it as fast as I can. As I approach the ruins, I take in their majesty. No matter how often I come here, they will always be breathtaking. Instead of  exploring the endless rooms of the deserted castle like I would normally do, I reach into my backpack and pull out my sketchpad and a piece charcoal from last night's fire. I made enough money yesterday at the forest market that I should be able to stop scavenging and take it easy for a while. I don't need money for much more than clothes and art supplies anyway, for I find or grow most of the things I need, but it's good to have a purse full of coins in the middle of a war. Times have been tuff lately, with the war going on. Less and less people buy my artwork and the objects I find, so I've been wearing clothes two sizes too small for months now. My colored pencils are nearly stubs, so I've been doing a lot of charcoal drawings lately. I've had to go into cities more and more often to sell my artwork and found objects, and normally the only buyers are rich tourists. I hate cities. They aren't really good places to be when you're like me. A were wolf, that is. Did I forget to mention that?

I sigh. "An order's been sent out."

"What...order?" Autumn asks, hesitantly.

"An order," I reply. "To capture every mutant in Kyngdom."

"But- But we aren't mutants.'

"That's not what Catastrophe thinks,"

I sigh. Suddenly, the shaking stops. I hear the voices of people outside, and suddenly the crate is opened.

"Welcome to you're new home,"

(October 25, 2016 - 5:25 am)

 A boy reaches into the crate and pulls me out. A girl and a fox grab Rose, and three bulls work on getting Claire out of the box.

"You have the right to remain silent," says the boy, "anything you say can and will be used against you."

"You'd think we were going to court, not our doom. Oh wait, I'm pretty sure those things are the same thing." Says Rose

Claire and I laugh, and even Rose snickers at her own joke. That is, until the girl slaps Rose across the face. Rose crumples to the ground.

"Rose!" I scream. Then, at the girl, "don't do that!"

the girl holds up her hand menacingly. "I won't if you don't give me a reason to."

We continue to walk in silence until we reach the door of a building. We walk through Andy find ourselves in a maze of hallways. Then, they start to pull us all apart. The boy leads me down a hallway to the left and the girl and the fox lead Rose down the hallway to the right.

I'm about to scream Rose's name, but the boy puts his hand over my mouth so I can't even make a sound. He pulls me through a door and then he shoots me with a dart. I pass out.

**************************************

I wake to the sound of  birds chittering above me. I look up and see I'm in a forest. A forest? How did I get here? I walk and walk until I see someone else, a boy. Normally, I don't talk to strangers, but this is an emergency.

"Where am I?" I ask him.

"You're in a habitat."

"What do you mean, a habitat?"

"Exactly as it sounds. You're in a habitat, the forest habitat, in the SOCS. This is were they observe us in our 'natural habitat', and take notes on our activities. We're practically were wolves in a zoo. You are a were wolf, right?"

I think that's when I passed out for the third time that day.

I wake up, only to groan and rub my head. That girl knocked me out before I- Wait, where am I? I look around and discover that I am in a forest with a lake and waterfall nearby. I stand up and stumble around. Where am I-

"Hello," a gentle voice calls, interupting my thoughts.

I look around. "Who's there?"

A deer emerges from the trees and bows slightly. "I'm Elena." Suddenely, she morphs into a girl with short brown hair, green eyes, and freckles. "Both human and deer."

"I'm Rose," I carefully say. I've never met a shapeshifter before. Unless Autumn counts as one.

Autumn! Where is she?

"Where are we?" I ask.

Elena looks around. "A 'habitat.'"

I hesitate. "Habitat?"

"Yes," she sighs. "All of us are merely creatures now."

"All of us?" I ask.

She nods, and out from the trees come another deer, a badger, a rabbit, and a girl.

"I'm Virgo," says the deer.

"Mossly," the rabbit says.

"Blaze," the badger says.

The girl looks at me sadly. "Frolia."

"Frolia, what's wrong?" asks Virgo.

Frolia sighs and shakes her head. "Just been thinking about Tali."

I look at Virgo questiongly, and Elena comes up to me.

"You see," she whispers in my ear. "Tali was gotten rid of. If the scientists don't find us useful, they send us into this one enclosure. A werewolf enclosure."

Autumn.

"W-werewolf enclosure?" I ask, stuttering.

"Yes," Elena replies.

I stumble, and the trees swirl around me. Then everything goes black.

I wake up to the smell of meat cooking over a wood fire. I see I'm laying on a mat on the ground, covered by a thin cloth blanket, maybe cotton. I look around me. I think I'm in a small hut of some sort. The walls are made of packed mud, and the roof is a thatched material of some sort. I walk outside, and I see a boy. The one who I met in the forest.
"Hello," I say. He turns around, surprised.
"You're awake!"
"Um, yeah. Why wouldn't I be?"
"Well," he says, "sometimes the newbies- they don't make it. I try as hard as I can to get them acquainted when they first arrive, but they don't always make it," I can tell by the way he says don't always, that he means rarely, "last week a boy came in. He was 7. He only lasted an hour."
I shudder
"Why are we here?" I ask. The boy shrugs.
"Claaws only knows."
I walk over to him and see he's cooking meat over a fire.
"What's that? It looks delicious," I say.
"This is a pigeon. I caught it today. They don't give us food here. We have to catch it ourselves. They treat us like animals."
For the second time in less than ten seconds, I shudder again.
"I don't like it much either, but we have to eat, right? Anyways, want some?"
Normally, I wouldn't eat a pigeon, especially when the person offering it to me is someone I just met. I knew a very pleasant pigeon on Sailhaven, and we were friends for quite some time. But I'm famished, people.
"Sure."
The boy hands me a chunk of the roasted bird and I gobble it up, trying not to think about who the animal was. I realize I haven't had a bite to eat since the Bog and Burrow, and I'm still starving even after I finish the breast of the bird, but I don't ask for more because I don't want to be rude.
"What's your name?" I ask him
"River. Yours?"
For a second I debate telling him my real name or a fake one. But I figure that I shouldn't care anymore, if I'm stuck in, practically, a zoo.
"Autumn," I say, "I'm Autumn."
After what River tells me is lunch, we talk for a little bit. He tells me everything I need to know about the enclosure. Apparently, there are cameras every where, whatching our every move, and there's even a well-hidden observation deck somewhere in the sky. When I asked River if the sky was fake to, he laughed.
"Everything's fake here, Autumn. The trees are fake, the ground is fake, the mud I used to make my house is fake. Everything's fake except us."
There are even other were wolves here, apparently. According to River, most of them are in small packs of 4-20. Rivers's a rare case. But he told me to stay away from most packs. He said they can be horribly hostile. No one her is very organized, so there aren't very many inns or restaurants. Most wolves either live in small villages of huts or wander around by night and sleep during the day. Packs do trade with each other and form alliances, but it's uncommon unless the two packs join together.
"There's one exception," said River, "there's a market where we can trade goods like handmade clothes, blankets, furniture, and other items. But above all, things from the outside are the most valuable. For example, you could trade one of your sneakers for a two new outfits, a blanket, and enough food to last you eight weeks. There's even an inn at the market. It's called the Hoppin' Howl."
But above all, he warned me to stay away from the other groups. He said that if they meet a packless wolf (like moi), they will rob them or enslave them.
"there are slaves here?" I asked him.
"Yes. Yes there are."
I walk away from his house now. Before I left, he gave me a satchel full of supplies: a steel dagger, a clay box filled with pigeon jerky that could last me a week, a water skin, and a blanket and sleeping mat. And the supplies he found me with, whitch was very little anyways: a small purse of gold pieces, a back pack, and my most prized possession: my sketch pad and pencils. I try to head in the direction of the forest market, for I have decided to make a temporary home near there. But before I get there, the artificial sky becomes an artificial sunset, and before I know it the stars are up and I can barely see my own hands. So I find a good looking tree and climb it, and nestle myself between two large branches. I make a makeshift hammock out of my sleeping mat, and cover myself with my blancket, and before I know it, I am asleep.

The dreadful sun goes down, and all of us go into hiding. As we run through the trees, I look back and see gates opening from the distance.

"Duck!" Elena shouts.

We dart into the bushes while the rest of the animals go for about five more feet before running to the trees.

A minute or so later, we hear gruff voices.

"Who don't we need now?" one voice asks.

"Well, we haven't really decided," another voice says. "But Boss said that we could test by seeing what the newbie would do in the werewolf enclosure."

"Newbie," Elena mutters underneath her breath. "That's you!"

I gasp, and the voices stop talking.

"Don't. Move." Elena whispers.

But a few seconds later, I feel someone yank me up.

"No!" Elena screams.

I find myself face-to-face with a person wearing a protective mask.

I fire a force field at the person, but they seemed to have put a bracelet on me, and it doesn't work. I try flying, but the bracelet keeps me planted.

"Let me go!" I scream.

They put me in a cage and I see Elena's face as I disapear out of the enclosure and into white hallways.

~~~~~~~~~~
We finally arrive at another enclosure. The werewolf enclosure. They keep on my bracelet and gruffly throw me inside, slamming the door behind me. I bang at the door with my fists, but it's no use. This door was designed to keep things in. I look up at my surrondings. It's a forest like my first enclosure, but almost... dirtier. I look at the sky. The sun's almost all the way down.
It's nice to know that my friend might kill me tonight.
It looks great! I'm more mouse-like, if that's what you call it.
Description of me- Platinum blonde hair that wavy and whispy that falls down to my shoulders. Mouse-like, short-ish, and hazel eyes.
If you still have any trouble getting an image in your head, imagine Cosette from Les Miserables. Kind of like her, but at the same time different.
I wake and see the moon still shining above. I must have slept for an hour or so, then something must have awoken me. The light of the moon sends strange shadows frolicking around the forest floor, dancing their ghostly dance. The scariest thing is knowing that none of it is real. Fake shadows, fake moon.
I remember River's words
Everything's fake here, Autumn. Everything except us.
I get out of the tree and pack up my stuff. I switch from the satchel River gave me to the backpack I came in with, because it's easier to carry that way. Then I climb out of the tree and start to walk on the crude path through the forest. I can see remarkabley well, and I look up at the moon again to see how close it is to full. It looks about three quarters to full. And supposing that this moon lines up with the moon in the real world, that would mean it's pretty close to transformation time.
I walk for hours, and soon I start to hear the sound of voices and smell food cooking. I start to jog to the source of the voices, and suddenly I find myself in a clearing, filled with makeshift tents lit by oil lanterns, candles, and cookfires, and I see other people, some middle aged or toddlers, but most teenagers like me. So, that marketplace River spoke of?
I think I've found it.
Once I found the market, I traded in my satchel for a crossbow and some bolts. I also found out there's a clearing near the Market where I could build my temporary home. It's been six days since I came in, and I have a small mud hut constructed on the edge of the glen, with a small garden surrounding it. In the garden's basically a collection of flora I dug up and replanted around my temporary home. No one in the Market knows where I live. No one but me. Every day now I deliver a bundle of herbs to a 'resturaunt' in the Market, and in return they give me art supplies. With the pencils I draw maps of the enclosure, spots I know are highly viewed by cameras that the scientists think we can't see. I have also marked the areas with the least surveillance, and above all, weakness points, chinks in the armor. Ways to escape.
'Cause escape I will, and when I do I'll find Claire and Rose and get us out of here. And then I'll find Catastrophe, and find out why he ever took us in the first place.
And the boy-king will be sorry.
I climb up the tree so I can see my surroundings better. In the distance, I see a few lights clumped together. A... town? In the middle of this enclosure? Okay then.
But I hop down the tree and start walking towards, finding myself on a small path. Autumn won't kill me tonight, along with the others. The moon isn't full...yet.
~~~~~~~

I finally arrive at the village, and walk around. Everyone seems lively, and there's a small bonfire where children and teenagers alike dance. There are venders selling food, and I walk uo to one of them.

"Roasted dove, roasted dove!" the cook cries out.

Blech. Do they only serve animals here?

I go to another vendor, and all shouting and talking stops there.

The cook looks at me and points her frying pan. "You supposed to be a were-wolf?"

I lie. "Yes, why?"

I look at the rest of them. I look different, it's true. Most of them have long, dark hair with dark eyes. I'm the basic opposite.

"How old are you?" the cook asks carefully.

"Ten," I reply. I can pull that age off. Any younger, not so much. I clear my throat. "Silver wolf."

I'm guessing if I was a were-wolf, I would be that color because of my hair.

The cook looks at me and nods. "Okay. Well, you want any food?"

I look down and see what she is cooking. Roasted mice and rabbit.

"Um, no thanks," I say. "I'll pass."

The cook gives me a long look. I try not to  squirm. Then she finally goes back to talking, shouting, and cooking, and that vendor becomes lively again.

I step slowly out and start walking around again, trying to be more discrete. I finally sit down by a statue of a wolf, when I here a voice.

"Hey, you!"

But it doesn't sound harsh, it actually sounds friendly.

In fact, it's Autumn.

I had recently walked into the Market to sell a bushel of herbs (rosemary, lavender, and thyme) that I has just picked from my garden to one of the cooks I'd gotten to know rather well over the few days I'd been here. Her name's One-Eyed Maggie, the only wolf that I've seen here over sixty. Atually, the only one over forty, even. She was one of the original wolves, and she's been here since she was twelve. I'd just finished haggling up the price of the lavender when I saw a familiar-looking girl, short for her age, with blond hair so dirty it looked nearly light-brown and ears only slightly pointed. Rose.

I ran to my friend. For if I didn't, I knew for a fact she would die. Because she is the dove amongst ravens, the tulip in the field of brambles. And I could not let her die.

"Rose!" I whispered as I dragged her away from the vendor she was talking to, "Rose, how are you even here? This is a were wolf enclosure. Being here is like signing a contract that says 'yes I'd like to die tonight. Oh, and while you're at it, could you make it horribly gruesome?' You don't come here for vacation!"

Before she can even respond, I drag her away from the market and into the clearing where I built my hut. She takes it in, and I can see her eyes widen.

"you made this? From scratch?"

"No, it came in a box with a bow tied around it," I say, my voice dripping with sarcasm, "come on."

We go inside the one-room hut that is my temporary home. Rose stares at everything, from the messy makeshift table with my sketchpad and pencils on it to the walls covered in maps and drawings to the bedroll on the floor. She walks over to one of the maps I've drawn to get a closer look.

"Is this the Enclosure?" she asks, witha voice so calm it makes me almost want to scream at her. I take a deep breath.

"Yes. How did you get here?"

"Well, I was originally in a different enclosure, one filled with peaceful people, animals, and others in-between. Then they moved me here."

"Why?" I ask, taking another breath to stop myself from screaming. I haven't been this tense since the time I found out what I was.

Rose shrugs her shoulders.

"Maybe they wanted you to kill me," she says.

"Kill you-wh-what are you talkin-what do you mean?" she sputters with frustration.

I sigh. "I guess you haven't asked around about who they eat at dinnertime during a full moon."

"What are you talking about?" she asks.

"My enclosure," I reply. "Is filled with animals and a human with powers and stuff, and when the scientists don't feel like experimenting on them anymore, they dump them in here. Oh, and they make sure they dump them in here when it's almost a full moon. So they can experience counting down 'till they die."

Autumn looks at me wide-eyed.

"And," I continue. "They dumped me in here not to get rid of me, but to observe me. See what I can do. But I can't do a thing with this stupid bracelet on," I say, pointing to my bracelet. "So basically, all I can do is sit here and wait to die. But I don't want the one to kill me to be you," I sigh, getting up. "Catch you later."

"Wait!" she exclaims.

She comes up to me. "Now I can't do a thing at the moment to get you out before the full moon tomorrow. But I can get that bracelet off of you so you can protect yourself."

She grabs a couple of tools off of the table and uses them to yank the bracelet off. Wow, must be the whole were-wolf thing that makes her strong.

"Now run," she says.

"Thanks," I mutter. "If I survive, I'll come back."

She nods and smiles.

I burst open the door and take a big step forward, running face to face with a boy with such impact that I lose my balance and fall onto the floor, my head hitting the floor. Everything starts to fade, and before I completley black out, I notice that the boy's ears are pointed on the ends.
