Kyngdom Survival Guide

I run through

Chatterbox: KYNGDOM™ RP Board

I run through

I run through the Forest, looking for the ruins. This would normally have been a hard task for anyone, but it's two days before the the next full moon, and my senses are better than ever. I see the outline of a tower in the distance, and run towards it as fast as I can. As I approach the ruins, I take in their majesty. No matter how often I come here, they will always be breathtaking. Instead of  exploring the endless rooms of the deserted castle like I would normally do, I reach into my backpack and pull out my sketchpad and a piece charcoal from last night's fire. I made enough money yesterday at the forest market that I should be able to stop scavenging and take it easy for a while. I don't need money for much more than clothes and art supplies anyway, for I find or grow most of the things I need, but it's good to have a purse full of coins in the middle of a war. Times have been tuff lately, with the war going on. Less and less people buy my artwork and the objects I find, so I've been wearing clothes two sizes too small for months now. My colored pencils are nearly stubs, so I've been doing a lot of charcoal drawings lately. I've had to go into cities more and more often to sell my artwork and found objects, and normally the only buyers are rich tourists. I hate cities. They aren't really good places to be when you're like me. A were wolf, that is. Did I forget to mention that?

I don't know...

I had seen a reply on the Who's Here? thread- it said Autumn.

You said that you would be around the Who's Here? thread on a different thread.

I guess that's how.

Hey, since Shadow became a new person or charrie, does this charrie know that she used to be Shadow?

submitted by Mina
(October 10, 2016 - 7:02 pm)

No, I don't think so. They might have some of shadow's traits (her love of horses, adventure, amazing picpocketing skills) but they wouldn't have any idea where they got these traits. They would also develope their own traits, so they wouldn't be exactly like shadow. It would be hard for other charries to find the person or animal shadow was reincarnated as, and the hunt for them could last forever. It would be a very small chance for shadow to be reincarnated as someone near where she grew up, because there are so many parts of kyngdom (discovered and undiscovered) and she could be in any of them.

I walk through the forest, my boots crunching the brown and copper leaves underneath my feet. I breathe in the cool, brisk air. It is mid-morning, and the sun peaks from the golden crown forming from the tops of the trees. I see an object in the distance. It looks as though it is crouching underneath by the roots of a tree, and the object slightly moves its arm. I walk a little quicker, skipping occasionally, when I finally arrive.

A girl, about my age, sits underneath a tree with red leaves, sketching at a pad. She uses charcoal drawing utensils in some colors.

I take out my variety of charcoal and oil pastels.

"Hello," I softly say, not wanting to startle her.

She jumps slightly, turning around to look at me. "Oh! Uh, hi!"

"Sorry," I say, smiling slightly. I look down at my pastels. "So you like to do art?"

"Yes," she says, relaxing a little. "I'm drawing now."

"I see," I say, peering over her shoulder. "What are you drawing?"

"Well," she says, showing me her pad. "This."

I look and see a scene from the forest. But there's something different. Flowers bloom here and there, and there is a booming waterfall that sprays water sparkling in the sunlight. She must like spring or summer.

"That's very nice," I say, smiling.

"Thank you," she replies.

There is a period of silence when she asks me a question. "What do you draw?"

"Well," I say, pulling out my sketchbook to show her. "I draw real life things, but I also add my little twists to the big picture."

I hand my sketchbook to her, and she leafs through it. She nods and looks up at me.

"Beautiful," she says.

"Thanks," I blush. "I'm still working at it."

She laughs. "Same! Well, I suppose there is no perfect artist."

I giggle. "True."

"I'm Autumn," she says.

"Rose," I reply, extending my hand.

She hesitates and then shakes it.

"Where are you from?" I ask.

She clears her throat. "Um, Sailhaven."

I nod. "I'm from, well, around here. There's a village that I live in, just over there," I say, looking behind me and pointing.

"Cool," she replies. "Do you have a bite to eat? I'm really hungry. I haven't eaten much since yesterday."

"I have some coins," I reply, patting the side of my bag where my coin pouch is kept. "We can go into town and get bread or something."

She nods. "Okay."

We head into town. I wonder about who Autumn is. I wonder if she spends much time in the forest. I haven't see her before.

I gather up my things and put them in my backpack. Then I head on with her into the village. Now normally, I wouldn't go off with anyone who could be a potential 'friend'. I've learned to never get too attached to any human being, for I might end up accidentally massacring them in their sleep. That's what happens when you're a were wolf. But, to be honest, I've been rather bored lately. I can only draw the ruins so many times before it gets boring, and there's not much more to do in the middle of nowhere. I follow Rose past multiple storefronts and thatched-roof houses. She opens the door of one of the many bakeries and beckons me inside. I walk into the small shop and the smell of fresh bread surrounds me. I haven't had bread in months, and the smell is almost overwhelming. Rose obviously sees it on my face.
"Are you okay?" She asks,
"Um, yeah,"
"You look like you've never been in a bakery before,"
I shrug. I haven't never been in a bakery before. It's only been four years.
"Hey, what's up with your earrings? I like them," she says, trying to change the subject,
"Thanks," I respond, but I don't say much more. I try to avoid talking about my dead siblings, and the earrings Rose is complimenting just happen to represent them.
She says something to the man at the counter, and he goes into the back of the shop.
"That tattoo's pretty cool, too,"
Oh no. Was my tattoo showing?! I normally tried to hide that from most people. I hadn't covered it in mud to hide it because I hadn't been expecting to see anyone today. Crap!
"What is it, a moon?" She asks, "I wish I could get a tattoo! I don't have money,"
"Erm..."
The man behind the counter saves me. He plops two brown bags on the counter in front of us.
"Look, here's our order!" Says Rose. Is she always this chipper?
"Cool," I say, because I figure I ought to make a remark. I open the brown paper bag and see two fresh rolls inside. They smell absolutely delicious.
"I should pay you back-"
"Don't worry," She says, "It's on me."
We go outside and she brings me deeper into the village. As we walk, I see multiple families. A girl and a boy play with a brown ball in the street, and an elderly man yaps at some teen girl blasting music on her homemade radio.
"Is this an entirely human village?" I ask, "I haven't seen a animal at all since we came here,"

I sigh. She's definentley not from here.

"Well," I say. "Unfotunantley, animals and humans are seperate here. The humans live on one side of the town while the animals live on the other. Humans don't like animals. Animals don't like humans." I pause. "But we all live in the same community anyway."

She nods thoughtfully. "Do you like that?"

I shake my head. "No way. I have a few animal friends, and some animals go to my school. But no one is friendly with each other otherwise."

"Oh," she says, nodding again. "That's not fun."

We walk for a while and then stop at a bench by the town center. We sit down and open the bread bag.

Autumn takes a bite and her eyes light up.

"This stuff is good!" she exclaims.

I laugh. "I know! It's the best bread in town."

While we eat, we talk.

"So," Autumn begins. "What do you think about the war?"

A slash of pain hits me. "Um, uh..." I hesitate. "It's..it needs to stop. Catastrophe can't just destroy what he wants to, and Octavia can't just occupy wherever she wants to."

Autumn nods, obviously acknowledging that I don't like the subject. But we continue to talk about it anyway.

"I heard about it," Autumn says. "I know that Sailhaven is in it, along with Aslahari and Mer."

"Yeah," I say. Mer.

"Is something wrong?" Autumn asks.

"No," I reply. I look at her. "Well, it's just my sister is in it."

"Oh, okay," Autumn says. "Which army?"

"Um," I say. "Well..."

Autumn realizes my discomfort. "Oh! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to pry."

"That's fine," I sigh.

Autumn nods slightly.

"She's in Catastrophe's army," I mumble.

Autumn looks taken aback. "O-oh," she stammers.

I nod slowly. "Yeah, I get that reaction from whoever finds out."

"I'm sorry," she says.

"That's okay," I respond. "I don't blame them. My brother's in the war too. He's with Mer, and he's lived there for about two years. They're basically fighting against each other."

"That's terrrible," Autumn mutters.

"I know," I sigh.

There's a short period of silence.

"Well!" Autumn exclaims, getting up. "Can we go check out the animal side of the village?"

"Sure," I reply, standing up and stretching quickly. "We have to be discreet, though. We don't want people to find out that we've been near the animals."

Autumn nods.

"Oh, and one more thing," I mention.

"Yes?" she asks.

"We need to be careful. The human neighbourhood right before the animal one isn't very... nice."

Autumn nods slowly. I can tell she understands.

I'm relieved that we're finally going to see some animals.  Sure, I like humans, but animals are normally more accepting when they figure out what I am. And, since the disease of lycanthropy doesn't affect them, I feel safer around them. It's horrible that the town is segregated like this though. I've heard of human/animal segregation before, but I've never seen it this bad. Normally it's just bathrooms and water fountains, and the select few resturaunts (ahem Taft Tavern).I had no idea that entire villages were divided. And especially in the forest, this segregation was uncommon.

"Will the animals mind if we come to their side of town?" I ask Rose

"Ummm..... I guess some take it better than others."

We stop for a moment, and Rose takes this opportunity to pick a flower and tuck it in her hair. I get a glimpse at her ears. They're pointed at the ends.

"Not to be rude or anything, but are you a nature sprite or something?"

"Um, yeah. How did you-"

"I saw your ears. And I've been a lot of different places in my life, seen a lot of different people. You start to recognize the traits of different species."

We walk in silence a while. That is, until Rose holds out her arm in front of me.

"This is the neighborhood. Here, take this."

She hands me a dark cloak.

"Is all this really necessary?"

i flap down. Two people are talking.

"Hello" I say.

They both turn.

Well, I am a bat, so me talking is a little odd, but still...

(Just so you know, I'm not a sprite. Just an elf.)

I nod when I hear something behind me. It was a small voice.

I look behind me, but see nothing. I shrug.

"Seriously, why are we wearing cloaks?" Autumn asks.

"Well...." I hesitate. "This is the neighbourhood with humans that are- rude to the ones that want to go to the next town, the animal town."

She nods.

"So, there's going robbers and a lot of other stuff... just stay discrete," I say.

"Okay. We should probably just quickly pass through anyway," Autumn replies.

I nod.

We head off into the neighbourhood, and I can already feel the icy glares of the people around us.
