back to the Down to Earth

|"-The peace and quiet,-" Lyra says with a smile. "-Well, it's actually not that quiet. You can hear owls hooting, crickets chirping...and you can see the serene glow of the moon and stars.-" She looks upwards, and I follow her gaze; even though it's still not fully night, the moon is starting to glow above us. "-What about you?-" she asks.|

|"Maybe like you, just the peace," I reply. "And, I don't know, there's something about the night that daytime doesn't have. The different light, maybe, and how everything looks transformed." I glance at her, once more smiling without meaning too. "In that respect, you're like the night. You transform everything around you into something better."|

The different light, maybe, and how everything looks transformed.|" He glances at me, smiling, and I smile back reflexively. "|In that respect, you're like the night. You transform everything around you into something better.|"-

-"Thanks," I say, and smiled brightly, like the moon above us. "And you are like the moon and stars, shining and sparkling and breathtaking."-

|"-Thanks,-" Lyra says, smiling back at me. "-And you are like the moon and stars, shining and sparkling and breathtaking.-"|

|"Really?" I put my arm around her again. "Thanks. If that's true, I suspect it's just because I'm the luckiest guy on earth." Because of you.|

|We reach the end of the path, finding ourselves back in the same spot we started out from at the beginning of this perfect evening. I slow down, looking at her again. "We should probably be going home," I admit, though there's nothing I want so much as to somehow still this one moment into infinity - it's so wonderful, with the fading hues of sunset in the west, and the fragile moon in the blue sky above us, and the cherry blossoms gently obscured by dusk, and Lyra here with me. "Today was perfect, and thank you so much for coming. You're the most amazing person I've ever met."|

-"|Really?|" He puts his arm around me again, comfortingly. "|Thanks. If that's true, I suspect it's just because I'm the luckiest guy on earth.|"-

-"And I suppose that makes me the luckiest girl who found you," I reply.-

-We eventually arrive at the end of the path, back where this golden afternoon started. Eri slows down, glancing at me.-

-"|We should probably be going home,|" he says, more than a hint of reluctance in his voice. I feel slightly sad that it's over, gazing at the majestic park that has turned from a sunset orange to an ombre of blue and purple against the pink blossoms. "|Today was perfect, and thank you so much for coming. You're the most amazing person I've ever met.|"-

-"I have loved this afternoon, and I've really enjoyed this time with you," I say. "You're the best person I've ever met." I smile, and say, "Well, I suppose it's until next time, Eri." I hug him, before turning and walking away slowly, waving at him goodbye.-

|"-I have loved this afternoon, and I've really enjoyed this time with you,-" Lyra says, everything beautiful about the sunset seeming to culminate in her eyes. "-You're the best person I've met. Well, I suppose it's until next time, Eri.-" She hugs me, and I hug her back, a soft fragrance from her or the cherry blossoms or both clinging to the moment. Then she turns and walks away, waving at me. I wave back, smiling, until she's more or less out of sight, at which point I walk back towards home as well. I have a feeling that sunsets are going to remind me of Lyra for a long time, and cherry blossoms too, and Narnia, and bakeries, and everything that's made this evening perfect.|

|If this is love, I think I'm more in love than anyone could have been before.|
