New poetry competition!
Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket
New poetry competition!
New poetry competition!
It's really just continuing the last one, but I don't think a whole lot of people are checking that thread anymore. So here goes--
The new theme is music! You can write about how music makes you feel, or what it is. You can write about a musical instrument, or playing in part of an ensemble... or Hamilton...
Anyway, be creative, and have fun!
(I will be judging on Wednesday the nineteenth of October, so please have them submitted before then :)

I need some time to think. *thinks*
(October 31, 2016 - 3:53 pm)
Ha ha, Rose bud, time to write something that isn't weirdly depressing! I'll get to work!
And thanks, Alex, that meant the world to me.
(November 1, 2016 - 10:20 pm)
Come on guys! This applies to a lot of things. You can be satisfied with yourself and your personality, satisfied even when your sister is marrying Alexander Hamilton; thankful that your dragon wasn't killed in the Dragon Massacre of 2016, or thankful that somebody on Youtube posted like ALL the 1990s X-men episodes!!

Tooop!
(November 5, 2016 - 2:18 pm)
I'm going to enter a poem. I wrote this on the fly, on my way to swim practice. So, I hope you like it:
Swirling, twirling
Seasons passing in a blurr
Winter to spring to summer to fall
Then loop-the-loop back through it all
Remember the riddle that we all know
The small child's one that goes
What has four legs in the morning
Two in the afternoon
Three in the evening
And none at night?
Remember that?
The answer was
A human
The beauty of the world around me
Shimmer
Glimmer
Then turn dark
A roller coaster on which
You're stuck to the seat
By choice or not
Dawns come and sunsets go
Moonlight, starlight, sunlight
All the while we all grow
And have our interests, loves, and passions
Hates, and fears, and so much more
That could make you fall to the floor
Or rise up, rise up to the sky
Because history is watching
The earth is changing
Music is recording
And there is so much reason for us to be
Satisfied and grateful
Muriel says 'cryi'. That made you cry? Awww, thank you. I knew it was a little sad, but not that much so...

I guess I'm not as grateful for the things that happened
but the things that didn't
the bad things that could've happened
the blessings that were hidden
I'm thankful that when I fell in P.E. the other day
I only bruised my knee
I'm thankful that when we sung in music
it was in a lower key
I'm thankful for a day where
I didn't have much homework
I'm thankful for friends
that don't gossips about my quirks
For an hour when the ideas
poured out from my head
a day when my body
was not filled with dread
I'm thankful for the days
where these things didn't happen at
these blessings make my life surviveable
I'm thankful for that.

In third place we have... Cho! Your poem was sweet and simple. I think we sometimes forget that some ideas can only be phrased in a few short sentences.
In second place is Kestrel! Your poem told a story with wonderful images. I loved the italics. They really added to the dream-like feeling of the poem.
In first place (*cue the trumpet fanfare*): Bluebird! Your poem was full of excellent tension and approached thangs-giving from an interesting angle. Your poetry is inspiring and beautiful. You really have talent.
Runner up:
Moonlight
It is your turn to choose the topic Bluebird!
(November 15, 2016 - 8:20 pm)
Thank you, Rose Bud! The next topic is... Water! Write about the ocean, or a fishing trip to a lake, or even the water from your faucet at home. You can write about a voyage at sea, or a journey downriver- be creative! I will judge in like, seven-ten days? Is November 25 okay?
(November 16, 2016 - 7:53 am)
Sounds good to me!

I have so many poems about water that it's not even funny!! So here's one. It kind of needs some editing, it reflects a bit of my childish description, but whatever. I like it.
THE OCEAN REMEMBERS
The water was quiet
not calm,
or still,
but quiet in its thoughts because it remembered
bare feet
that padded across the sand
and stepped on a shell
which cut through flesh easily,
too easily,
sliding so gently,
that it could have been beautiful
but it wasn’t.
The ocean remembers
because the shell
rolled into the water
tumbling so quickly;
it could have never been there.
But the sea
couldn’t feel
the drops of blood on the sand
that stuck to
the child’s feet,
as she entered a world
that water cannot go.
Her hair stuck to the back of her neck
as she left the ocean.
The water remembers,
because the shell,
which curved into a wide knot
at one end,
bent it’s head downwards
while a garment
of speckled brown
flew out behind.
It remembers
because before the shell
shattered against
a leaning rock,
it pierced the water
with such ease,
that it could have been beautiful,
but it wasn’t.

The rivers of Yesterday.
The rain disappeared.
No.
The ocean swam away.
No.
The ponds evaporated.
Return
did
they?
~~~
They
did
return.
The lakes evaporated.
No!
The ocean swam away.
No!
The rain disappeared.
No!
The rivers of Yesterday.
