New poetry competition!
Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket
New poetry competition!
New poetry competition!
It's really just continuing the last one, but I don't think a whole lot of people are checking that thread anymore. So here goes--
The new theme is music! You can write about how music makes you feel, or what it is. You can write about a musical instrument, or playing in part of an ensemble... or Hamilton...
Anyway, be creative, and have fun!
(I will be judging on Wednesday the nineteenth of October, so please have them submitted before then :)

Ghostly, Ethereal
Ghostly, Ethereal.
Gone is the sun from the cold-
The Cold dusk
Gone is the wind from the warm-Earth
Soon is the air from the Cold once more.’
The twisted shadows one with the twisted dark
Once more the days disappear,
And the cold eyes dance with the glinting Cyclopean eye socket of the universe
The chill breeze carries a sinister sweetness
The one that people expect
Gone is the sun, and up with the stars and the moon and the cosmos and the life of the sky
The life which makes us small, and smaller, faced with infinity and more
Then, a light in the darkness
Goodbye summer

*applauds*
That might be my favorite poem I've read yet... nice use of the words like Cyclopean. Very descriptive and fits perfectly.

Once More the Seasons Change
The leaves dress in their finest gowns,
In shades of red and gold and brown,
The entire earth hunkers down,
Once more the seasons change.
Squirrels hunt down their winter stash,
The cold winds of the north lash
Out—and the sun dissappears in a flash.
Once more the seasons change.
We greet autumn with cozy clothes
And settle down for winter's shows,
But enjoy the fall before it goes,
Once more the seasons change.
~~~
That was a poem I whipped up this morning, and I do like the way it turned out.
When Will Fall Come?
~~~
When the tree throws off it's green summer dress,
When it puts on the one that's gold and red,
When the dress's layers grow from more, to less,
When the leaves fall like embers over your head,
When the apples and pumpkins are finally ripe,
When they're picked and made into pies,
When the warm air decides to follow the piper's pipe,
When the migrating birds say their last goodbyes.
When you see all that happen, then and only then,
Fall will have finally come.

I wish that I could give you all awards, because those were also amazing, but unfortunately I am restricted to three. *sighs* So, here goes.
In third place.......
Cho Chang!
I loved your poem! It was full of imagery, and I loved how you incorporated Star Wars! Job well done.
In second......
The Feline!
Your poem was amazing! It symbolizes what fall is to me, and makes me think of all of the things that makes fall my favorite season.
In first place.......
Rosebud!
Rose, your poem captures the colors and winds of fall, and I loved the imagery that you used!
Honorary mentions:
Gared, Alexandria. (You guys were amazing: Alexandria, I loved the imagery with the leaves and the dresses, and Gared, yours made me shiver. Great job, guys!)

(October 27, 2016 - 5:51 pm)
Aw, I missed the deadline. Here's my poem anyway, in case you guys want to see it:
Warm September breeze
Ruffling the golden leaves above
As they sit
Side by side.
Watching the raindrops
Kiss the surface of the lake
Their little tradition
Wishing on the splashes.
Mugs of tea in hand
Hers, a touch too sweet
His, with a splash of cream
Leaving steam on their cheeks.
Like puffs of breath
Which he blows into the air
Warming her face
With a contented glow.
Brittle October wind
Sending a chill through her sweater
And down her spine, freezing her
Heart into a cold, lifeless lump.
Rain, running down her neck
Burns like acid
Yet she ignores the pain
As she has done for what feels like ever.
Brown, dying leaves
Falling limply from their branches
Sighing with exhaustion
As they touch the soggy ground.
The mug of tea in her hands
Gone cold, only half emptied
Granules of sugar drifting and
Mixing with bitter tears.
A droplet hits the lake
Shattering the glass silence
A spark lights up her dull eyes
Giving a speck of life to her limp body.
She makes her last, desperate wish
Before the fire which still burns feebly inside her
Loses its last warmth.
Small splash, yet such a big dream.
Let
Him
Come
Back.
