BIG Cadet Academy
BIG Cadet Academy for the Valiant
In its dying moments, SOCS merged with BIG, despite the fact that they'd been enemies for a time. BIG's cadet academy had already been established, but suddenly BIG had a bunch of experiments left over from SOCS. BIG wasn't so evil to keep up something so unethical as experimentation on live subjects… but these were the leftovers. The war is getting long, hard. They're starting to justify the use of experiments in hopes of creating stronger, genetically enhanced soldiers.
Meanwhile, BIG Cadet Academy for the Valiant is accepting more and more students at an alarming rate. Feeding children as young as eleven propaganda, teaching them to fight, and then placing them on the battlefield or into labs as soon as they come of age, it seems as though BIG is getting more desperate (and ruthless) than ever before…
***
Here is the recreated (and hopefully better) version of the original boarding school roleplay. The very basic story is summarized above, but I'll put it in clearer terms. The story is that now that SOCS, a very evil group of scientists who used to experiment on live beings, has been destroyed, BIG has been left with their experiments. At first, they were only using the leftovers, but they have now grown so desperate for power in the war that they are creating more experiments in an effort to make stronger soldiers. BIG also has a boarding school for students (BIG Cadet Academy for the Valiant or BCAftV) who will either fight or do science for them when they graduate. Mostly students learn propaganda about BIG, science, and combat skills, although all of the core classes are more or less there. At the academy, there is a lab. Some experiments are living in the lab for the students to use as test subjects in their lessons. But when a group of students becomes aware of these experiments plot for escape, they have to decide if they want to help or not. This roleplay will be about the days leading up to a small rebellion from students and experiments at BIG. If you have a half-baked, undeveloped idea for a character, don't worry because this is a perfect place for character development!
Your character can be a student or an experiment. While there is no limited number of characters, we ask that there only be up to eight experiments right now for smoothness and believability. Please consider if you will have time to commit to this roleplay before you join, especially if you're making an experiment character. Two of my characters are experiments, which leaves six experiment slots left as of right now. You don't need to have been in the old roleplay to join this one! If you were in the original roleplay, you can keep your character or make a new one. I'm also going to give you first dibs on experiment slots if you already had an experiment character for the next few days; that only seems fair.

/Relven/
Leskie nodded. "We should especially heighten the area of cat DNA with the claws and balance, because cats are already known to be dexterous. Either way, that sounds great," she said, continuing into more detail. "What do you think?"
"Great," Relven agreed. "The easiest and fastest way would absolutely be to reach the brain." That shouldn't hurt him, he thought. "Which would mean going over here..." He led the way to a computer from which signals could be sent. The trouble with science was that everything had to be perfect, so that nothing would go wrong with the experiment; it wasn't like math or language, where if you got a problem wrong, it didn't matter. And he just really did not like the whole concept. He clicked around a bit, preparing everything, and then turned to Leskie. "How does that look?"
*Adine*
Cress followed Adine over to where the files were, and they turned to the computer. "So I think what we should do is start here," Cress said. "We can easily just program it so her senses are temporarily heightened without having to make anything over at our lab station. But I guess we could make something if you want."
"Hey, can you, like, hurry up?" Aerona asked. "The chip's kinda itchy or something. Like, I just wanna take a nap."
"Yes, that looks fine," Adine said, leaning over Cress to get a better look. "It won't take long, Aerona - AA-573. I think you'll hardly notice it. So, Cress - here, can I have it for a second?" She typed out a few quick commands that would accomplish the required job. "It should be something like this."

-Avi-
The two meandered around the tiny lab and Avi opened one eye to watch them. He liked them, but it was really hard for him to show it. They seemed ok, like they were smart and actually cared. But after so long of not trusting people he didn't quite know how to be around people.
And he was just so confused. He wasn't supposed to like the way Relven smiled or notice the way his voice lifted when he spoke. Avi knew he himself liked boys but he was pretty sure Relven didn't. And Leskie was just kind and intelligent. He longed to actually get to know them, but it was impossible. They lived different lives. His best friend was Zinnie and maybe Via, although she was like a little sister.
Those two lived in the midst of politics and school and other things he didn't even know about. Avi wished he could start a more mundane conversation that wasn't about science or what they were going to do to him but he worried he would get hurt if he let down his guard.
All of that thinking about what could be was making him sad, so he just tuned out his thoughts and payed more attention to their conversation.

"Great," Relven agreed. "The easiest and fastest way would absolutely be to reach the brain. Which would mean going over here..." He led the way to a computer from which signals could be sent. He clicked around a bit, and then turned to Leskie. "How does that look?"
"Perfect," Leskie replied, nodding after double-checking. "And...well, I suppose the experiment is fine with it?" For some reason, she felt like she had to consider what the experiment felt.

So this one is going to be very short.
-Avi-
"And... well, I suppose the experiment is fine with it?" Leskie glanced over.
"Sure. Let's do it." Avi shrugged. "And you can call me Avi, if you want."

"Perfect," Leskie agreed. "And... well, I suppose the experiment is fine with it?"
"Sure," Avi said. "Let's do it. And you can call me Avi, if you want."
Rel hadn't been expecting that; he knew that some of the experiments had names, and he'd been planning to ask this one if he had one, but later on. And for Avi to come out and tell them? "Cool name," he said. "All right, so Avi... you won't notice anything right now, but over the next few days your dexterity should be enhanced." He gave the computer one last glance to make sure that everything was all right. "Here we go, then."

i'll try to post more if I can but yeah, Rigel and Zinnia could be friends! Maybe somewhat established already? and yeah a friendship with Via could be fun too. Ae might not be great at friendships though heh. Especially because ae might end up having autism (and ADHD but i think that's already clear) but that might require more reworks because i don't know how to write more of a pretty low level 1 character probably and i'd want aem to be that... that might be more anyone who masks remotely well though. anyway. Don't worry if you get something wrong with aer pronouns (i'll let you know but it's not a big deal as long as you're trying), but here's some examples.
so ae/aer/aem/aers/aemself is formatted the same as he/his/him/his/himself (ae doesn't use those pronouns, it's an example). So some examples (I think you know how to use them but just in case it helps):
"Ae wishes ae could see more of the sky" is the same as "he wishes he could see more of the sky".
"Ae would probably say aer favorite star is Rigel, if you asked aem" is the same as "he would probably say his favorite star is Rigel, if you asked him"
"Is the book aers?" is the same as "Is the book his?"
"Ae aemself doesn't care for aer claws, but aer moth wings make aem smile" is the same as "he himself doesn't care for his claws, but his moth wings make him smile".

"Sure," the experiment said. "Let's do it. And you can call me Avi, if you want."
"Avi," Leskie repeated. She smiled a little. "Nice to meet you, Avi."
"Cool name," Rel said. "All right, so Avi... you won't notice anything right now, but over the next few days your dexterity should be enhanced." He gave the computer one last glance. "Here we go, then."
Leskie quickly checked over the computer, then said, "Great. That seems to be successful. Avi, you don't really need to do anything for now, though if you want to, you could practice tasks that improve dexterity, such as drawing. Totally up to you, of course. Otherwise, we can just chill."

Spiderwort~
When Colin gives Via the drink, Spiderwort grimaces. Colin doesn’t seem to notice, but Via does, and she grins.
Colin explains what the drink does, and Via nods. Then Colin turns to Spiderwort. “Well we've finished our lab ahead of schedule. Thanks for the help, Spiderwort. You're pretty cool. If you're not done with your drawing yet, you can stay here with Via. I'll just tell Mx. Frost you're still taking notes.” And then he winks.
Spiderwort grins hesitantly. “I - I - almost. Layer, more layer.”
Colin tilts his head. “Layer?”
Spiderwort holds up his colored pencil. He just needs a few more layers on the bunny’s ear, and it will be done.
Colin hesitates for a second, then nods. “I’ll go tell Mx. Frost, then.” He walks off.
Spiderwort turns his attention back to his drawing. When it’s done, ae tears the page out and hands it to Via. A bit of a pity, really - it’s one of his better ones.

-Avi-
"Avi," Leskie repeated, trying it out a little bit. She smiled slightly into the distance. He watched her, and kept an eye on Relven, nervous about how they both would react. "Nice to meet you, Avi."
He breathed a sigh of relief out, and then looked at Relven.
"Cool name." Relven seemed surprised for a minute but regained his composure quickly. Avi felt a slight flutter and then cursed in his head for this silly little crush. "All right, so Avi... you won't notice anything right now, but over the next few days your dexterity should be enhanced." Relven turned back to the computer. "Here we go then."
Leskie also turned and checked the computer and Avi peered around her to look as well. "Great. That seems to be successful. Avi, you don't really need to do anything for now, though if you want to, you could practice tasks that improve dexterity, such as drawing. Totally up to you, of course. Otherwise, we can just chill."
He nodded. Avi did like drawing, but today, rather uncharacteristically, he would rather "chill" with them. They were for sure the best students he'd been partnered with in his entire time at BIG. Although, he wasn't quite sure how to start a conversation, so he ran his tongue nervously over his right fang. "Ummmm, I guess I'll just hang out here. Uhhhh, with you guys...... um if that's ok." He inwardly sighed. Avi was usually much better with words.

"Ummmm, I guess I'll just hang out here. Uhhhh, with you guys...... um if that's ok," the experiment - no, wait, Avi - said awkwardly.
Rel abandoned the computer and turned the swivel chair he was sitting in to face Avi. "That would be totally fine," he said. "There's still a while to go until this period is over, so there's no rush." Although he always tried to be kind to the experiments, this was the first time he'd been on such, could one say, friendly terms with one. It wasn't really what one did in the BCA, and he wasn't sure what the teachers would say if they knew. Or what most of the students would say. But oh well, no one except Leskie and Avi and him would ever know, so why not? And he wanted to help Avi, if it was possible.
But what on earth was there to talk about? The three of them led such different lives. "So, how old are you again?" he asked Avi.
(April 24, 2024 - 8:11 pm)
-Avi-
Relven spun away from the desk and the computer and stopped the swivel chair so it was facing Avi. It surprised him, and he slightly jerked his head back in reflex. "That would be totally fine. There's still a while until this period is over, so there's no rush." Avi felt very warm. Relven was certainly not making it easy to stop liking.
"So, how old are you again?" Relven asked. They probably already knew because they had access to his file, but Relven was trying, and actually treating Avi like a person, so it was just fine.
"I'm 16. I've been here for most of my life though. And I've never actually celebrated a birthday, so it doesn't really matter. And you two?" They were probably close to his age, possibly a bit above, but he was so bad at guessing ages that it would probably be the opposite.

"I'm 15," Leskie said. "I've also been here for a long time. I techincally didn't start attending until I was 13, but I was training to start since...well, I don't remember. Very young, I suppose. But not celebrating a birthday...? You should choose a random date, to experience it, so maybe we could bring gifts. Only if you want to, of course," she added.

aa sorry admins for double post, but forgot to put Aly's pov
{Aly}
Lee nodded, and the two began painting the feathers. Aly, between brustrokes and dips of pigment combined with water, noticed Lee smiling. She looked even prettier, if that was possible. Aly smiled back, without realizing.
Soon, they finished working, and the experiment's wings were painted from black to rainbow. It looked neat, and Aly stepped back to admire the work.

That was a whole new level of things, but Rel nodded anyway. "We should do it," he said. "If everyone's happy with it. Birthdays are always great. I had mine a month ago, which means I'm seventeen, though I'm still not completely adjusted to that." He laughed. "Oh, and Avi - just thought, it probably says in your file what day you were born on. We totally don't have to go by that, but if you want to know."
