In its dying moments, SOCS merged with BIG, despite the fact that they'd been enemies for a time. BIG's cadet academy had already been established, but suddenly BIG had a bunch of experiments left over from SOCS. BIG wasn't so evil to keep up something so unethical as experimentation on live subjects… but these were the leftovers. The war is getting long, hard. They're starting to justify the use of experiments in hopes of creating stronger, genetically enhanced soldiers.
Meanwhile, BIG Cadet Academy for the Valiant is accepting more and more students at an alarming rate. Feeding children as young as eleven propaganda, teaching them to fight, and then placing them on the battlefield or into labs as soon as they come of age, it seems as though BIG is getting more desperate (and ruthless) than ever before…

Here is the recreated (and hopefully better) version of the original boarding school roleplay. The very basic story is summarized above, but I'll put it in clearer terms. The story is that now that SOCS, a very evil group of scientists who used to experiment on live beings, has been destroyed, BIG has been left with their experiments. At first, they were only using the leftovers, but they have now grown so desperate for power in the war that they are creating more experiments in an effort to make stronger soldiers. BIG also has a boarding school for students (BIG Cadet Academy for the Valiant or BCAftV) who will either fight or do science for them when they graduate. Mostly students learn propaganda about BIG, science, and combat skills, although all of the core classes are more or less there. At the academy, there is a lab. Some experiments are living in the lab for the students to use as test subjects in their lessons. But when a group of students becomes aware of these experiments plot for escape, they have to decide if they want to help or not. This roleplay will be about the days leading up to a small rebellion from students and experiments at BIG. If you have a half-baked, undeveloped idea for a character, don't worry because this is a perfect place for character development!
Your character can be a student or an experiment. While there is no limited number of characters, we ask that there only be up to eight experiments right now for smoothness and believability. Please consider if you will have time to commit to this roleplay before you join, especially if you're making an experiment character. Two of my characters are experiments, which leaves six experiment slots left as of right now. You don't need to have been in the old roleplay to join this one! If you were in the original roleplay, you can keep your character or make a new one. I'm also going to give you first dibs on experiment slots if you already had an experiment character for the next few days; that only seems fair.

Yes, it's fine if Lee and Aly use Zinnia (235). Anyone's charries can experiment with Via or partner with either of my student charries. I won't be v active this week so if you need to add in some dialogue in my place you have my permission to do this

When the two of them arrived at the class, Tyra held her breath as Colin talked to Mr. Moore. For a moment she wasn't sure if the teacher would let her off or not. But then Xar spoke up. Tyra knew him slightly; he was nice, always willing to help. Mr. Moore turned his attention to him, and Tyra was able to go sit down. Colin gave her a smile and a thumbs up. She smiled back happily and settled down to study.
Math class flew by, and soon it was time to go on to lab class. Of all her classes, Tyra disliked lab most. It was... wrong, she felt, though she couldn't have put her feelings into words. It was hard to go against everything her teachers seemed to think was fine. But she always felt cold and miserable whenever she entered the rooms where other beings like herself were kept just for experiments.
She put on her lab coat and goggles, then approached Aurora, who had just entered. "Hey, want to be partners?" she asked.

Lab class was next. Aurora braced herself as she entered the room and put on her lab coat. She still remembered the first time she'd had this class. Nightmares had haunted her for weeks afterward. The suffering these experiments were forced to go through... She hated it.
Tyra came up and offered to be partners. Aurora agreed - it was always fun to work with her best friend - and they looked for an experiment.

Appearance: short, messy brown hair (it seems like all my male characters always appear to have messy brown hair for some reason...? Lol), really skinny, faint splattering of freckles; is usually wearing sweatpants and a hoodie that is way too big for him XD (except somehow his hands still fit in his sleeves? Sorta?). He's pretty short.
Personality: confident and sure-of-himself bc I really need to write more characters who are like this... A jokester, but always makes sure no one is left out; super kind/caring. Likes to have fun with everything he does, but behind all the extrovertedness, is also actually quite thoughtful and quiet. Encourages others. Likable.
Skills and abilities: can resolve conflicts easily, is always giggling about something or other and can have a positive/relaxed outlook on everything. If that's not a skill, idk what is :) ok fine, also is an amazing saxophone player. I mean, why not. Can be very passionate and determined.
Likes/dislikes: fun, puns, jokes, reading, dancing, sports; brussel sprouts. Yeah, that's kinda it. He's an easygoing guy :)
Shipping: uhh Ig with whoever? A platonic ship might be cool too though (whether a friendship/qpr)

I'd just start at the beginning of lab and go from there if I were you. If you want, Colin or Cress can partner with Spiderwort; whichever you prefer. But if you'd rather not that's fine too.
If you want him to partner with either of them, pick one and post his POV; I will try to respond ASAP. If you don't think it'd be in character for Spiderwort to start a conversation with either of them, I'll do it, just post something so I know that's what you want me to do.

Rel glanced around the room after he'd prepared for his encounter with an experiment. They were supposed to pick partners and an experiment. His attention was caught by a silver-haired girl - wasn't she Leskie Aderaine? - standing in front of Experiment 423. Well, he had to partner with someone, and it might as well be Leskie. There was always Colin, but Relven wasn't even sure he was attending science today, and anyhow, it was always nice to meet new people. He walked over, trying to ignore how unhappy 423 looked. "Hey," he said to Leskie, smiling. "Want to partner?"
For a moment, he had the crazy idea of asking the experiment if he was all right with that too, but no, you didn't do that.

@Peri - If the details about Zinnia and Via are wrong just ignore them and/or let me know. I had some reasoning for Via’s, but Zinnia’s is kind of out of nowhere. Also I’d really like for Colin to interact w/ him! I had actually thought they could be a cool match and I’m always biased to a violinist so. Also you said it was tech week and performance your school musical - I hope that goes well!
@Wildsong (sorry no caps), last RP our charries were going to interact and you said anyone could interact with Avi so i put the end in but it’s totally fine if you want to ignore this!
@Everyone, I may make up more stuff about the experiments, always tell me if anything’s wrong. also for reference Spiderwort has some difficulty speaking. also i figure they're probably supposed to use the number names but Spiderwort is probably bad at remembering numbers anyway so he probably uses their names

“We are the valiant”. The school motto is plastered all over the place: in bold letters on the cafeteria wall, on the front pages of all of the textbooks, even on the steel sign covered in dents and rust Spiderwort once found under some poorly-maintained rosebushes. He has never felt valiant one day in his life. Sometimes he wishes he would, but wishing for things never works and he shouldn’t think like that.
The halls are empty. Lab class has already started, and he’s supposed to be there. He wasn’t supposed to be outside, spreading compost and mulch around a rose bush in one of the back alleys of campus. But the teachers don’t get that mad anymore when he’s late, and if he used the hallways when they were full he’d probably melt down. And that would be infinitely worse.
He freezes just outside of the lab door. It’s made of heavy steel, with only a small window of thick glass allowing him to peer inside. He stays back. Maybe he shouldn’t go in. He fiddles with the crocus flower his stuffed cat is holding.
But it doesn’t matter, really. He opens the door as slowly as he can and slides in.
The lab teacher glances up and doesn’t say a word. Good. Right? A few of the other students roll their eyes. He knows that’s bad.
A seat at the back is surrounded by empty space. That’s where he goes. That way the students won’t tap him until he melts down, and maybe he won’t hear the whispers.
But he smiles when he takes out the salve he made. The only interesting thing in it is calendula petals. But that should be enough to soothe some pain. One of the experiments is growing claws, which is not a pleasant experience.
He heads to the back of the room and hands the salve to the experiment, flinching when their hand brushes his. He doesn’t like touch, even when it doesn’t hurt. It always makes him flinch.
Finally, he passes out a few teas made to order. One experiment likes lavender black tea with a bit of milk. Zinnia is fond of rose petal tea with strawberries and extra honey.
His final stop is Avi’s cage. Avi refuses to take anything he makes. But for the past few days, he’s had a mild cough. Spiderwort knows that it doesn’t take long for a cough to turn into something far worse. Like when BIG found him…
He can’t think for a second. Then he strides towards Avi. “Tea. Lemon balm. Drink. Cough - cough is - bad.” He thinks for a second, then grins. “And lots of honey.”

@Blackfooted Bobcat: awesome! I think Colin and Spiderwort would really get along. Do you want them to be friends, and if so do you want them to already be friends at the start of the story or go from acquaintances to friends throughout the story?
@Celine sorry if this doesn't line up with anything you've written. This is probably the only free moment I'll have to make a post today so I wanted to take it even though your comment wasn't posted yet.
@Everyone: do you want this to be the class where the students overhear the experiments planning for escape? I personally feel that may be a little rushed; we might want to do it the next time they have lab class instead. But we could probably pull it off this time if you guys want that. Which one do you all perfer? Also, would anyone like to partner with Cress?

The students who were experimenting on Zinnia today were called Lee and Aly. Zinnia did not like either of them. Zinnia hated almost all of the students, with a few exceptions.
"What are you gonna do to me today?" They mumbled, interrupting whatever conversation Lee and Aly were having.
Before either of them could answer, Spiderwort entered, and Zinnia felt some relief. Spiderwort was one of the best students here -- not academically, to their knowledge, and only in Zinnia's opinion, because he was always kind to all of the experiments. He walked around the room, handing a salve to one experiment and giving out teas. He had made Zinnia their favorite tea, the one with rose petals and strawberries. He never forgot to add extra honey. For the first time since lab started, Zinnia smiled, and they gave him a nod, their wings perking up slightly. They sipped their tea as he walked away, and they watched as he tried to convince stubborn Avi to take a tea for his cough.

Colin was wondering who to partner with when Spiderwort arrived, late as usual. He passed out salves and teas to the experiments. Colin secretly admitted Spiderwort for this; it was very bold of him to do something that seemed even somewhat defiant of BIG. Spiderwort was able to get away with things like this sometimes. Colin figured the teachers had given up trying to stop him.
Colin was kind to the experiments in subtler ways, but some of them had noticed. When other students weren't listening, he called them by their names rather than their numbers, and he was always careful not to hurt them and to make them stronger when possible.
Today he was working with number 714, who went by Via. She was just a little girl. He'd made her the stuffed bunny she was holding. She called it Penny. "Hey, Via," he smiled. "I'll be right back, okay?"
When Spiderwort was done passing things out to the experiments, Colin approached him. "Spiderwort," he said with a polite nod. "Would you like to be partners? I'm working with 714 - I mean, Via. I'm working with Via today."

Definitely go from aquaintances to friends, though I should note that Spiderwort will probably not really be sure what's going on/why Colin is talking to him and also be pretty resistant to friend-y stuff at times. also don't worry too much about how you write him. He probably mostly talks in one word sentences or a few words, but it's totally fine to get any of that wrong. and he will probably make everything about plants. but i had actually been thinking they'd be a good match regardless so that's fun! also don't worry if you can't post for a while.
i definitely don't think this should be the class they hear about the escape. definitely would feel rushed. it would be nice to have more time for students and experiments to interact.
@all if i wrote a thing that didn't connect to any of the other charries could i post it with the specification that it's not important? i haven't yet, just out of curiosity since I like this character and might want to more development. also the world, a bit.

Okay, got it!
So if you're doing a scene or just some thoughts that don't include other people or relate to the rp, I'd put that under the journals roleplay. It's where your character can express their inner thoughts, reflections on life, stories about their past, whatever. They can take place in the past or the present.
