BIG Cadet Academy

BIG Cadet Academy
BIG Cadet Academy for the Valiant
In its dying moments, SOCS merged with BIG, despite the fact that they'd been enemies for a time. BIG's cadet academy had already been established, but suddenly BIG had a bunch of experiments left over from SOCS. BIG wasn't so evil to keep up something so unethical as experimentation on live subjects… but these were the leftovers. The war is getting long, hard. They're starting to justify the use of experiments in hopes of creating stronger, genetically enhanced soldiers.
Meanwhile, BIG Cadet Academy for the Valiant is accepting more and more students at an alarming rate. Feeding children as young as eleven propaganda, teaching them to fight, and then placing them on the battlefield or into labs as soon as they come of age, it seems as though BIG is getting more desperate (and ruthless) than ever before…
***
Here is the recreated (and hopefully better) version of the original boarding school roleplay. The very basic story is summarized above, but I'll put it in clearer terms. The story is that now that SOCS, a very evil group of scientists who used to experiment on live beings, has been destroyed, BIG has been left with their experiments. At first, they were only using the leftovers, but they have now grown so desperate for power in the war that they are creating more experiments in an effort to make stronger soldiers. BIG also has a boarding school for students (BIG Cadet Academy for the Valiant or BCAftV) who will either fight or do science for them when they graduate. Mostly students learn propaganda about BIG, science, and combat skills, although all of the core classes are more or less there. At the academy, there is a lab. Some experiments are living in the lab for the students to use as test subjects in their lessons. But when a group of students becomes aware of these experiments plot for escape, they have to decide if they want to help or not. This roleplay will be about the days leading up to a small rebellion from students and experiments at BIG. If you have a half-baked, undeveloped idea for a character, don't worry because this is a perfect place for character development!
Your character can be a student or an experiment. While there is no limited number of characters, we ask that there only be up to eight experiments right now for smoothness and believability. Please consider if you will have time to commit to this roleplay before you join, especially if you're making an experiment character. Two of my characters are experiments, which leaves six experiment slots left as of right now. You don't need to have been in the old roleplay to join this one! If you were in the original roleplay, you can keep your character or make a new one. I'm also going to give you first dibs on experiment slots if you already had an experiment character for the next few days; that only seems fair.

-Avi-
Avi sat there, holding the child who dreamed she lost her bunny, and then lights clicked on. The experiments stirred, blinking their sleepy eyes and murmuring nervously.
An announcement came on over the P.A. "Attention experiments. You have 15 minutes to eat and make your selves presentable. The students will be arriving shortly."
Avi stiffened.

{Aly}
"Thank you so much!" Aurora replied, sitting down. "My morning's been great so far! Though it was a little difficult getting to the cafeteria on time, I slept late - again. Getting an alarm clock is the top item on my Urgent To-do List! How about you two?"
Lauren replied, then Aly said, "It is a great morning for me as well. Though we do have a history test coming up-" Just then, the bell rang for first period, history. "Perfect timing," Aly joked as she finished up her pancakes and got up.
&Leskie&
The bell rang, and Leskie quickly put her archery away and walked to history class. The test had begun. The questions were luckily not that difficult since she had studied. They were mainly geography based, such as the climate in Northwest Kyngdom or where BIG was first located. She finished quickly, and soon, science class would start.

@Periwinkle - I love what you wrote! I agree, it is quite funny XD and it seems like a good way for them to start interacting
-Tyra-
Adine said yes, Tyra could sit there, so Tyra sat down next to her, feeling shy suddenly. "How are you doing with the extra studying for the history test?" was all she could think to say.
The bell rang just then, before Adine could reply, and Tyra jumped up to jam her textbook back into her backpack. She was rather near the cafeteria door, and in her attempt to make the book fit amidst the assortment of things that filled the too-small backpack, she didn't notice Relven and Colin heading toward her, deep in conversation.
Then she felt someone bump heavily into her, and she fell against the hard floor, fortunately somewhat cushioned by her backpack, which landed underneath her. "Oof!" she gasped, trying to get her breath back. Vague irritation stirred within her - seriously, people should watch where they were going!
"Tyra!" someone gasped next to her, and all trace of Tyra's irritation vanished. It sounded like Colin. Only it couldn't be Colin, could it?
Hastily she sat up, dusting off her uniform. Sure enough, Colin was standing there, holding out a hand to her. "I'm sorry. A-are you okay?" he stammered.
He looked adorably nervous, and if Tyra hadn't already forgiven him, she would have done so as soon as she saw him. Truth to tell, she felt a little nervous too. She had imagined sometimes what it would be like to strike up a conversation with Colin - perhaps in a moonlit garden, or in the academy's old, sunlit library, or at least while walking to class - but she'd never quite thought it would be like this. It seemed rather awkward, to say the least.
"It's okay," she answered, hoping she wasn't going to blush, as she sometimes did when nervous. She took his outstretched hand and let him help her up. Wow. She was actually holding Colin's hand. Only for a second, though, because as soon as she was on her feet again, she let go hastily. "I think I'm fine," she added. "Are you?"
-Aurora-
The girls chatted a bit about how their morning had gone, then the bell rang - it was time to go to class. Now that she had eaten breakfast, Aurora's energy was right back to its usual high level, and she felt more than ready for the exam.
"Perfect timing," Aly joked as she got up. Aurora nodded in agreement, laughing. "Well, I guess I'll be off," she said, glancing nervously at the clock. "It was great chatting with you! See you later!" She waved, with a friendly smile, and set off across the cafeteria.

I'll write Adine's next part as soon as Poinsettia's comment comes out :)
/Relven/
"N-no, I couldn't do that," Colin said nervously. "I would want to --" Rel watched, horrified for his friend's sake, as Colin bumped violently into Tyra, sent her sprawling to the ground, and toppled himself. Poor Colin, he thought, suddenly wanting to laugh, which wouldn't have done at all. Well, at least he finally had an excuse to talk to her, and Relven wasn't about to interfere. He gave a slight wave in Colin's direction and headed off to the history classroom.
He caught Ms. Damon's eye and smiled as he entered. He'd heard a few malicious whispers that he was the "favorite of all the teachers" on purpose, and that couldn't be further from the truth. Well, it was true that he was able to make most middle-aged women like him if he tried, but sometimes they liked him even if he didn't try. And after all, he'd been here for six years, and knew most of them backwards, forwards, and inside out. There was no reason for people to blame him for that...
He found his desk and sat down, drumming his fingers lightly on the desk and staring at the first question. The test looked feasible, thank goodness...

--- AERONA ---
"It's indescribable." Zinnia said. "I haven't gotten to do it in a while. But whenever I'm flying… I'm happy to be alive. I feel like that's what I'm alive for. Flying."
(aerona's magic metal part here)
"Nope, no magic metal. And about the breaking part… I've been thinking about that too. What if we could get out of here?" Zinnia's wings had perked up, and Aerona flashed her a smile, just as the alarm clock went off.
She looked towards Alistair, stirring sleepily, still floating in her underwater tube. Her hair wove around her in all directions - a strangely angelic sight.
In that moment, she made a split second decision.
"Come with me. I'll introduce you to Alistair. She's... I think, one of the newer experiments. They're still... working on her."
Alistair was normally cold and didn't talk to anyone, with the exception of Aerona and Aerona's friends. Aerona didn't like introducing people to Alistair - mostly because she didn't like forcing Alistair to talk to people - but she had a feeling that if they were going to get out, they would need Alistair.
They walked over to the underwater tube, and Aerona knocked gently on Alistair's tube.
"Good morning, Koi," she whispered softly. "Can you come out here for a sec? I want you to meet someone."
[FROM HERE ON OUT IT'LL BE COMBINED POV]
Alistair blinked her sleepy eyes open as she stared at Aerona and Zinnia. Out... tube... meet?
She sighed. What was Aerona getting up to now? More chaos?
With a streamlined jump, Alistair grabbed the top of the tube, peeking her head out above to actual air.
"What's up?"
Aerona gestured to the other experiment.
"Alistair, meet Zinnia. Zinnia, meet Alistair."
"Hi. Nice to meet you. I'm Alistair. She/her. Conglomeration of shark, human, and some other aquatic animals. Hate this place. You?"
**taking layla out of the rp just because she's kind of rp locked and can't figure out how to put her back in
(March 31, 2024 - 4:14 pm)
@Poinsettia: cool! I took another liberty (putting them in different first period classes) here, like last time you can ignore it if you dislike it but I figured that not every student would have the same class schedule all day realistically
@All: should what bonds our students together be that they all use the lab at the same time of day, and hence all overhear the experiments' plan for escape (and can possibly contribute to it) at the same time?
~Colin~
"It's okay," Tyra said as Colin pulled her up. Around them, the students were filing out. "I think I'm fine. Are you?"
"Yeah, yeah, I'm okay," he said. He helped her gather her things. "Sorry again," he said.
The bell rang. They were late to class. Shoot.
"Oh, now I've made you late to class!" Colin snapped his fingers repeatedly, a movement he often did as he thought of solutions to problems. "You've got Mr. Moore for first period math, right? How about I walk you there and tell him what happened? He might not believe you if I'm not there to confirm your story. You know how he is." Not only was Mr. Moore super strict about being late, but he was known for being a skeptic, even when it came to perfectly believable stories. If two people were saying the same thing, he might believe it, though. And it'd probably help that Colin was friends with Relven, who was every teacher's favorite.
*Zinnia*
"Come with me," Aerona said. "I'll introduce you to Alistair. She's... I think, one of the newer experiments. They're still... working on her."
She lead Zinnia to the girl, who was asleep in their underwater tube. She knocked on it softly and whispered, "Good morning, Koi. Can you come out for a sec? I want you to meet someone."
Alistair blinked sleepily, took a moment to process what Aerona had said, and pulled themselves up to the top of the tube. "What's up?"
"Alistair, meet Zinnia. Zinnia, meet Alistair."
"Hi. Nice to meet you. I'm Alistair. She/her. Conglomerataion of shark, human, and some other animals. Hate this place. You?"
Zinnia smiled. "Nice to meet you too, Alistair. I'm Zinnia. They/them. I'm a homo avian." They spread out their wings for some effect. "Hate this place with a passion." Their wings perked up again. "I think we'll get along nicely." Zinnia gestured to Via, who was standing my Avi. "The little girl over their is Via. She's my adopted little sister. And the boy next to her is Avi."

Just wanted to say that a different schedule makes sense :) and that the lab should definitely be same period all, which is second, I presume?
(March 31, 2024 - 7:06 pm)
Any period (except first ofc) works, but second is fine if nobody has any objections!
(March 31, 2024 - 7:59 pm)
No objections! I think second period would be good.
@Hawkstar, I'm frankly not certain about shipping Relven and Lauren - they don't seem to have quite the right personalities for each other - but I think they should absolutely be friends! Hope that's all right with you :) Do you want them to meet up anytime soon?
*Adine*
"How are you doing with the extra studying for the history test?" Tyra asked. But the bell for first period rang before the conversation could go any further, and Tyra sprang to her feet and started fiddling with her backpack.
"Um, I've been doing more or less all right," Adine said. "I suppose I'd better be going to history class - it was nice meeting you." She slipped out of her seat without waiting for Tyra to reply, and slipped expertly through the crowds of students leaving the cafeteria. She had history, luckily, not English with that way-too-strict Mr. Moore. Several of the students were already in the classroom when she arrived, but she found a seat close to Relven Sirion and started off with the test.
/Relven/
More students arrived, but Colin was still missing. Rel glanced around, realizing that, what with Tyra and all, his friend was probably going to be late. Maybe he could get Ms. Damon to overlook it whenever Colin finally showed up.
(April 1, 2024 - 5:25 pm)
For clarity, Mr. Moore teaches math and not English. It's nbd just don't want people getting mixed up!
(April 1, 2024 - 7:26 pm)
@Poinsettia & Peri, just jumping forward in time a little with Zia's part; ofc this will all take place after any future parts of yours about the walk to the class with Colin and Tyra and stuff :)
-Zia-
Zia entered the math classroom right as the bell rang and took a seat in the front row. She'd learned early on that you didn't take a seat in the back, not in Mr. Moore's class: he would automatically suspect you were up to something. One of her classmates, Tyra, stepped in after the bell rung (rang?) - a bit unusual for her; for anyone, really. Everyone tried to avoid being late to Mr. Moore's class at all costs. Else he'd get out the Sad Math Book (SMB) of unsolvable problems and make you calculate problems like if there are 5 Resistance members and 3 soldiers from Catastrophe's army on a rock at 5:00am, how many Resistance members and Catastrophe soldiers will there be at midnight? (answer: 0 Resistance members and 3 soldiers - the soldiers from Catastrophe would've defeated the Resistance members easy-peasy) or count the digits in Graham's number or something. Even more interesting, Tyra was talking to a boy - Colin, his name was? Though Zia was pretty sure he didn't belong in first-period math...- who then walked up to Mr. Moore's desk with purpose. He wasn't going to try to explain an excuse for Tyra's tardiness, was he?!
^Lee^
The history test was fairly easy and as Kathleen finished up, she looked around the classroom. Her eyes alighted on a girl with light red hair and a splattering of freckles. What was her name... Alyria? Though Lee had heard her friends call her Aly. Suddenly, Aly looked up from her test and caught Lee staring. Lee blushed, quickly looking away, and hastily made her way to the front of the room to turn in her test.
(April 2, 2024 - 1:50 am)
Ah, right - I have no idea why I thought it was English XD Thanks for clearing that up!
(April 2, 2024 - 3:10 pm)
{Aly}
Aly headed to history class, feeling slightly nervous about the test. She didn't have time to study as much as she liked. She smiled a little at Ms. Damon as she entered the classroom. Ms. Damon nodded stiffly back. She sat down at her seat, which had a test paper already on it.
"You can begin as soon as you sit down. Best of luck," Ms. Damon said.
Aly scanned the test quickly, and found that it wasn't as hard as she thought it would be. She answered the questions fairly easily. When she finished, she glanced up briefly, and noticed Kathleen, or her nickname, Lee, another student with black hair and brown eyes, staring. Lee quickly looked away when Aly noticed. Aly smiled to herself, thinking that Lee was rather pretty today. She shook her head briefly to clear it and decided to go back and double-check her test answers.
(April 2, 2024 - 6:38 pm)
From what you were saying, I think I can join? So just to be clear I'll have a student and an experiment. @Periwinkle, I'm not certain the student charrie will be the most relevant to the roleplay, but I'm not bringing in any extra threads or anything he just might be a bit... idk how to explain. I'll post him soon (hopefully) and then you can decide. Sorry, I basically can't make a normal character heh. i'll try to post him soon. Also I'll post the Kyngdom festival things soon too. Anyway I look forward to this!!
(April 2, 2024 - 9:10 pm)
Assuming that second period is lab/science (or are they two separate things?) as no one else has objected :)
-Zia-
Still keeping one eye on Tyra, Colin, and Mr. Moore, Zia turned some of her focus to the workbook in front of her, filled with math warm-ups. Around her, the scratching of pencils was starting to fill the room.
^Lee^
Lee walked back to her seat and glanced at the clock. 5 minutes until class ended. She remembered that second period was lab... one of her favorite classes. The students got to study experiments to help Catastrophe's cause. In lab, they could actually make a difference! Lee fidgeted in her chair and waited for the clock to turn.
