Rose~
Ciaran doesn't approach me. But he doesn't attack or increase in fury, either. He only continues to babble about liar-Rosie and how much it hurts for a while, eventually saying "Maybe your shoes just have a bad temper," and slapping my hand in a high-five before returning to his usual bubbly self.
"Now we be friends! Spelunking, spellbinding, spectacular, whoosh!" Spelunking again. I wonder why spellbinding, though. Does he know magic? Was he created by magic? The latter seems possible, considering his appearance.
He drops down again and runs up to Sybill. "Big bad wolfie! Have big teeth. Bite band away!" He dances and claps in front of her, extending his arm to show her the tag. "Me free spirit, not B.I.G. boy! Freedom for friends! Fiery freedom! Yay!"
So he doesn't want to be affiliated with them. Unless it's a ploy. He might have run away. But how would he escape? And why would he try to gain our trust? I know it would be easier to kill or capture us if we're not expecting it. But then why send him, and not someone better equipped to do so? Unless he's only a distraction. But then, wouldn't the backup have struck by now? Perhaps he isn't lying. But I don't think I'd follow him anywhere.
"I can try to remove it," I offer. Ciaran turns towards me, frowning.
"You not have teeth, big sharp teeth to bite! How do you bite it away?"
"I wouldn't bite it. I don't have the teeth, like you say. But I can cut or pry, maybe even melt it."
Ciaran shrugs. "Need teeth. You see!" But he bounds back to me and holds out his arm. "Rosy-posy try, see."
I gently take his arm and examine the band. Bronze, fittingly enough. Doesn't look tight enough to cut off blood flow, but certainly not loose enough to slip over the hand. I turn it over. A line, a gap, a seam. The band is thin enough that I might be able to pry it off.
Ciaran begins to chatter again, but I tune it out, get a good grip on the edges of the band, and pull with all my might.
And the seam opens.
(December 3, 2017 - 10:46 pm)
I look at Ciaran. Should I bite away his band? He really looks like he wants to be free. And it's not as if Rose or ever had anything to do with the Resistance... Well, maybe Rose, but not me.
Then Rose says, "I can try to remove it." I feel relieved. What if my teeth weren't strong enough to get rid of the band...or what if I accidentally bit poor Ciaran instead?
"You not have teeth, big sharp teeth to bite! How do you bite it away?" Ciaran says.
"I wouldnt bite it..." I tune out the rest, knowing that bubbly and friendly Ciaran would let Rose try.
Ciaran darts over to Rose and holds out his arm expectantly. He smiles. Rose gently holds his arm and looks at the band. Of course Ciaran starts chattering.
"We go far away! Meet friends! Eat! Flames! Freedom! Yay! Hurry up Rosie-Posy! Wolfie help!" You get the idea.
Rose has a set look of determination on her face as she holds onto the band and pulls strongly. Ciaran lets out a yelp of surprise as the band's seam pops off. The band falls to the ground.
Ciaran instantly starts dancing and clapping and saying that Rosie-Posy, good, very good, so is Wolfie...and so on.
Then he loudly exclaims, "I hungry! Want food with friends!"
"There's a cafe nearby. We could go there, together, I suppose." I say. I have to admit I like Ciaran, and I would regret leaving him.

Rose~
Ciaran cheers, clapping and dancing around and babbling his head off. I smile and pick up the band. It'll do no good to leave it, and I think I'll want to inspect it, maybe track down its maker.
"I hungry! Want food with friends!"
"There's a café nearby," Sybill assents. "We could go there together, I suppose."
I hesitate. I would like some more time to lay low, and going somewhere public with a wolf and a bubbly, hyperactive lizard-ish being who was on fire wouldn't exactly help.
"I was planning to continue on my own, if it's no trouble," I say. Ciaran responds immediately.
"Lots of trouble! Want Rosie-posy! Come eat!"
"I'm sorry, Ciaran, but I've really got to go," I apologize. "Maybe we'll see each other again sometime, hmm?"
~I don't think Ciaran will take to this very well, but Rose isn't going to give in easily, no matter how much I want to keep RPing with you. She's prepared to offer coin, a place and time, and several minor promises in exchange for not having to go. It's just what she would do.

THE TENSION BUILDS
(December 6, 2017 - 1:28 pm)
I look at Rose. I understand why she wants to leave. It's the same reason why I may rethink my decision.
Going somewhere public with a most likely insane flaming lizard? It's not going to work out well. I know very well that going with Ciaran could get me into major trouble. The Resistance may want to interrogate me for more information about Ciaran. They may even assume I'm also something created by BIG. BIG would also not like me. I could be accused of the one who released Ciaran. Now, if I laid low, I might be able to figure out more about Ciaran.
Ciaran flares his flames angrily at Rose, and somehow even learns how to growl. That's when I realize just how insane and potentially dangerous Ciaran could be.
"Ciaran...I know you're going to hate me, but...I...I can't go either. I'm sorry... I just remembered...err...something," I lie.
Ciaran is angry. He growls at me, and is no longer the bubbly and happy little lizard he once was. He stands on his back legs. And hisses.
"So, it looks like the Big Bad Wolfie is really just a Big Bad Liar, huh?" Ciaran growls. He swings his head to Rose.
"And you...You were planning on getting rid of me anyways, weren't you? That's what the kick was for. You wanted to eliminate me, huh?" Ciaran has flames literally flying off his scales. The ground he is on is burning with rage Fire.
"Ciaran...it's not like that, I promise!" I say, hoping to protect Rose.
"Oh..so you were both in on it, weren't you?" And suddenly he leaps at me. I have just enough time to leap away from the fiery bolt of anger who used to be a sweet and innocent lizard. What has happened to poor little Ciaran?
The only thing left is to run. I yell to Rose this. She doesn't need to be told twice. We both run faster than I thought possible. Ciaran's flames are literally starting to cause a forest fire. This is scary.
~Sybill
(December 6, 2017 - 4:02 pm)
Rose~
Sybill looks sympathetic. Ciaran, on the other hand, flares up and growls.
"Ciaran," Sybill says. "I know you're going to hate me, but I... I can't go, either. I'm sorry. I just remembered--er, something."
She's lying. Why is she lying? Ciaran could be dangerous, but... She doesn't trust him, does she.
Ciaran turns to her and growls again, then stands up and hisses.
"So, it looks like the Big Bad Wolfie is really just a Big Bad Liar, huh? And you," he says, whipping around to face me. "You were planning on getting rid of me anyways, weren't you? That's what the kick was for! You wanted to eliminate me, huh?" His flames are growing more intense. The leaves at his feet are beginning to catch.
I open my mouth to deny it, but Sybill beats me there. "Ciaran, it's not like that, I promise!"
"Oh. So you were both in on it. Weren't you?!" I spring up as Ciaran leaps for Sybill, teeth bared and blazing. She dodges and yells for me to run. I decide to take her advice.
She's faster, being a wolf, but I keep her in sight as the forest starts going up in flames.
"Liars! Meanies!" Ciaran shouts after us. "Stinky-bottom freefs!" What in the world is a freef? "I bet you never even cared!"
"If we didn't care, why'd I take your band off?" I call back. "Why did Sybill suggest a café? Why didn't we just kill you the first time you turned your back to one of us?"
Ciaran shrieks. The fire is spreading faster. "Stupid Rosie! Stupid wolfie! You just like the BIG!"
"You wanted to be friends with us! You were the one who came up to us! We didn't even know you were there! And hey--" I slow to a jog.
"Rose!" Sybill shouts from up ahead. "This is a bad idea!"
I ignore her. "If you liked us so much, what about them? We're nothing like them! Why don't you go back and be friends with them again? Go on! Take your band and leave us be!" I hurl the metal band at the growing flames.
"And stop setting the woods on fire!" I shout, then sprint away as fast as I can. Ciaran screams again.
"FINE!"
And suddenly, with a snap that sounds like metal, the sounds of Ciaran's fury cease. I'm mainly focused on running, but I consider turning back when I hear him start to cry.
(December 6, 2017 - 9:18 pm)
Okay, so this can go a few different ways. I wasn't sure if I wanted to include the last part, from around where Rose throws the B.I.G. band at Ciaran, and we can ignore them if you think it's a good idea. If we do, Ciaran becomes a guaranteed antagonist and Rose's paranoia gets some fuel, leading to some fun conflict and interesting plot stuff later on. If we don't, Rose and Sybill can go back or keep running, and I'm not really sure what will happen either way. I think the band is magic or something, though, keeping Ciaran's rage under control.
So... what do you think?
(December 6, 2017 - 9:31 pm)
We should keep the last part. It just gave me a very good idea. I also agree with the Magic band thing.
Sybill~
Ciaran starts to cry. I can't help.but turn around. The band is touching his talon. He looks at it. I look at it, too.
"I'm sorry, Ciaran." It's a quiet whisper. I can barely hear it. Ciaran looks up. His flames are sputtering and dying.
Ciaran looks at me and says, "Me too, Sybill." I'm so surprised at first. He used my real name? He said something...normal?
Rose turns around too.
Ciaran blinks. Tears gently splash on the ground. "I don't like band. But need band."
What in the world did that mean?
"Band keep me good. No band, bad Ciaran. No good Fire." He sniffles.
"What do you mean, Ciaran?" I ask.
"Not like talking 'bout it." Ciaran says and hurries his head. He sighs and brushes away the band with his tall. He stiffens with a gasp of realization.
That's when I notice his eyes. They aren't their normal color.
They're black. No pupils, no nothing.
And Ciaran suddenly launches into a rage.
~If you don't want the Ciaran going into a rage part to happen, that's okay. I'm also considering creating a new character.
(December 7, 2017 - 4:03 pm)
This is interesting...
Rose~
Sybill slows, stops, and turns around. I follow suit.
"I'm sorry, Ciaran," she whispers.
"Me too, Sybill," he answers. "I don't like band. But need band. Band keep me good. No band, bad Ciaran. No good fire."
So... He was happy and docile before, when we first met him, when he had the band on. He began to be wrathful and started the forest fire when I took it off. I squint through the smoke. He's touching it now. And now he's calm.
"What do you mean, Ciaran?" Sybill asks.
"Not like talking 'bout it," Ciaran sniffles, putting a paw-hand over his eyes. He flicks his tail, pushing away the band, and gasps.
I think his eyes darken, perhaps the pupils dilating? The detail soon loses relevance, as he flares back up with a screech and Sybill and I begin to run again.
Her heart isn't in it this time. I actually catch up to her, which worries me.
"Sybill," I shout. "What are you doing? He's out of control!"
"I know! I don't know what's going on, but he's still in there! He needs our help, Rose!"
"Liars, liars," Ciaran chants.
"All right, all right... I think the band seals in his rage. If we can get it back on, he'll go back to... well, this would be his normal state, but he'll calm down. We need to get through that inferno first, though!"
I gasp for air. The fire is consuming a lot of oxygen, and that combined with the smoke is making it more difficult to breathe. My eyes sting, and are beginning to water enough to blur my vision. Oh, of course!
"Water!" I call. "We may be able to use water!"
(December 9, 2017 - 5:39 pm)
(December 9, 2017 - 5:42 pm)
Sybill~
Smoke.
Smoke is everywhere. I gasp for breathe and regret it as ash stings my throat. Ow!
"Water! We may be able to use water!" Rose says.
I nod.
"From where?" I ask. I looked around, and inhaled. I ignored the horrible sting of ash.
I cough.
I look around again. Not too far away I see steam.
"Steam!" I yell, feeling like a pup again. Steam means water. I bound towards the steam, Rose following.
But then I see the wall of flames blocking the way to the water. The flames don't seem to think, and I come up with a dangerous plan.
"I'm going to run through," I say. And I do.
There's so many flames. I can't see. The heat is horrible. And pain, suddenly. I realize the flames were a lot thicker than I had thought. Oh no.
I couldn't cross.
I backed up and hit a tree. I was trapped! So I raced forwards and howled in pain before smacking suddenly into...
Water!
"ROSE! I FOUND THE WATER!" I yell.
~Also, Sybill has been badly burned by the fire. She might not be able to run very well. Just reminding you of some details for your part.
(December 9, 2017 - 6:21 pm)
Excitement! I'm very excited anyway for no apparent reason, and rambly.
Rose~
"From where?" Sybill asks.
I don't know. I try to look around as I run, keeping close to Sybill. The smoke is thickening, and I cough. The water in my eyes overflows, running freely now.
"Steam!" Sybill shouts, bounding away. I follow her, squinting through the smoke and water. She stops suddenly at a veritable wall of flame. I hear, faintly, through the crackling hisses of the fire, the sound of a stream, but I don't see a way to get to it.
"I'm going to run through," Sybill says, and before I can speak, she plunges in. I hear her footsteps, smell her fur starting to singe. Starting to burn. I choke.
And then, a howl.
Someone's got her they killed her they're going to kill me next, is it Ciaran is it the B.I.G., is it rogues is it Catastrophe? They got her she's dead am I safe--
"Rose!"
She's alive!
"I found the water!"
She's found water!
I forget all thoughts of conspiracy or mistrust. Heedless of danger, I run into the fire. There is water on the other side. There is hope.
It takes longer than I thought. The smoke is so thick here and the air so thin, I can hardly see, can hardly breathe. I aim for dark spots at my feet to step on. I think my hair is on fire.
But up ahead, steam, white steam. Not that much, fortunately; it would take a truly terrifying heat to make running water instantly evaporate by mere proximity. I run, I run and plunge in.
It's not deep, maybe halfway to my knees. I slip on the sudden wetness, fall as gracefully as I can. By the multiple impacts of varying hardness, I judge that a bridge or fallen tree is at my back, stony streambed below, an overgrown bank to my left and a certain wolf to my front.
"Ow!"
"Apologies!"
The fire continues to rage around us. Our short victory is not a final one. Sybill sounds as though she's in pain.
"Sybill! Submerge yourself!"
I take my own advice almost as soon as I issue it, plunking my dampened pack onto the bank before splashing down into the water, thoroughly soaking myself and effectively quenching any possible hair-fire. The water is warm from the fire, especially near the bank and surface. It's quite pleasant, really. I lay still and feel the current rushing past, in Sybill's direction. I stay under until my lungs start demanding air, and even then a moment longer.
The heat hits me suddenly, the smoky air a minor improvement over the water. I breathe it in nonetheless, send a splash over my steaming pack, and look around for Sybill.
~And back to you. Rose will probably recommend sitting in the stream while they plan, although when she finds out about Sybill's injuries she'll insist on going alone.
Be wary of time constraints; smoke inhalation is inevitable, and symptoms (cough, hoarseness, chest pain, etc.) are already beginning to show up.
(December 10, 2017 - 8:52 pm)
Sybill~
I submerge myself underwater like Rose suggests. The warm water feels great on my burns. Rose emerges from the water and sits in the shallows. She splashes water onto her pack and glances around. I emerge in front of her.
"So, what next?" I say. My voice sounds nasty, it's hoarse and it hurts to talk. Rose looks at me.
"Sybill! Look at yourself!" Rose suddenly says, alarmed. I do.
My fur that is normally grey, a light bluish-grey, has been singed to black in some spots. I know that can't be what Rose is worried about, that will grow back. Then I see what worried Rose.
There's a huge blackened gash, I assume I got it from running through the fire and cutting myself on something. The heat and the smoke won't help it, either.
I look up at Rose and lay down in the water. It feels much better, and if I lift my head I can breathe.
"I'll be fine," I croak. Rose has a couple minor burns, and some of her hair has been burnt. But she will be fine.
"Well, we still need to stop this fire." Rose says. Her voice is a little hoarse, it won't be long unroll she starts coughing like me.
I cough before responding. "The smoke is the worst," I say, "We've got to inhale as least as possible. It's impossible not to breathe in some smoke, but if we stay away from the worst areas of the fire we would inhale less." I cough.
I continue before Rose can speak, saying, "If we can locate Ciaran' s band and put it on him, that would stop him from making the fire grow. Then we could stop the fire."
"We still have to cross through most of the fire to get to Ciaran," Rose reminds me.
"So we can forge a path. Like, avoiding the fire and get to Ciaran, then use the water to stop the fire." I say.
"I'll do it alone," Rose says.
"No," I respond.
"You can't go with your injuries!" Rose insists.
"I have to go," I say, "I'm more agile and I'm quicker, because I'm a wolf." Breathing in the smoke is causing chest pain, and I've started to cough. Rose is coughing, too.
"Not with your injuries, you aren't," Rose says after she's recovered from coughing.
"Well, fine. I can figure out how far the fire extends while you find Ciaran' s band. Once you find the band, come back here and I'll meet you here. But don't go to Ciaran alone," I warn, "If I'm trapped or hurt, I'll howl to warn you."
Rose seems satisfied with this, she nods.
"I'll see you soon," Rose says before standing up.
"Right." I say and pad off. I can hear Rose' s footsteps fading away.
~I hope you think Rose would agree with the plan they came up with. Since Rose is going into the wilder part of the fire, I imagine the smoke-inhaling symptoms will only get worse for her. Hopefully Sybill will be able to find out how big the fire is without injuring herself further.
