Hello, it's me
Chatterbox: KYNGDOM™ RP Board
Hello, it's me
Hello, it's me again!
This is my first thread, and it's going to focus on my charrie Lycaella, her mom and her friend Nygrune. It's for following our adventures while we're not in a place or situation covered by another thread. 'We' because Ronan has asked to be Nygrune, to which of course I said yes.
Someone (I think Icy) said that B.I.G. and Catstrophe actually dislike each other. It makes sense, so... Just to let you know.
I'll begin where I left off on the Underwater Ball thread, with Lycaella and Nygrune planning to do some spying of a sort. They've asked Lycaella's mom to show them her notes, so I'll fast-forward to that.
Lycaella~
"Oh, so you're giving them their shadows back?"
We are sitting on a rug in my mom's room, reading her notes. I can't make sense of half the words, but she tells Nygrune and I what it means. Apparently, Catastrophe has found a way to separate shadows from their owners' bodies, and to keep him from creating a shadow army and destroying everything, B.I.G. has been researching it. They've managed to figure out how he did it, and are testing ways to reattach the shadows to their owners.
"Well, that's one way of putting it," my mom says. "We believe it will be beneficial to all of Kyngdom."
"I don't really understand this one... How would they sew them back on?" I ask.
"I believe it's with a special sort of thread, Ella," Mom says. "Let's see now..."
Nygrune finds it first. "A needle made from the bone of a magic or mythical being, preferably with thread also made from a magical material."
"Yes," my mom says, "Although personally I think that a binding spell shows more promise." I raise an eyebrow. She doesn't usually like magic this much. Out of nowhere, I yawn. Mom and Nygrune look at me like I'm disrupting something.
"Sorry," I say. "I'm getting kind of tired. You two can keep reading, I don't mind."
My mom nods. I hear her calling after me as I leave the room.
"Remember to brush your teeth!"
~End RP.
It actually is getting kind of late, so I should go. I hope this works out.
(October 16, 2016 - 9:50 pm)
You may have noticed I'm posting at 2:30 am. This is not because I am in Japan. I am not in Japan. I am messing with my sleep cycle, staying awake as long as I can and then sleeping until I wake up, for no particular reason. So I guess I'm semi-nocturnal. And that's why I'm posting in the middle of the night-but-technically-morning.
Mexi says wake! Her fourth word! What kind of wake, Mexi?
(December 30, 2016 - 2:41 am)
I'm making a new charrie! Her name is Nieke and she's a squirrel anthro in her early 20s. She's going to be traveling with Alex R. and be annoying but undeniably good at her job. This is going to be fun...
I'm also thinking of making another. She would either be named Flavia or Karune, and she'd be the daughter of a noble who supported the SOCS and B.I.G. and probably Catastrophe. She'd be relatively wealthy and formally trained in all manner of fighting and self-defense. She's an only child, and no surprise secret sisters or anything, but she is capable of making friends. She would support the Resistance, of course. She doesn't like her coddled life. She's a regular human, but one with really good skills. Someone tried to kidnap her once, but she fought them off. She likes wearing armor. She's probably around 17, 18 years old. What do you think?
(December 31, 2016 - 4:49 pm)
Nieke's charrie sheet is up on the Who's here? thread. I'm still not sure about Karune, but she might be useful to the Resistance.
(January 1, 2017 - 4:31 am)
Happy New Year! It's actually been 2017 for about 47 minutes now, but whatever.
(January 1, 2017 - 12:47 am)
Mexi says ague! Her... I think it's her fourth or fifth real word. Kind
of a weird one--it's a disease. I just watched a movie of Twelfth Night
(which would be so much more awesome in a steampunk or sci-fi setting),
though, and one of the characters is a foolish knight named Andrew
Aguecheek, so she could be talking about him.
(January 1, 2017 - 7:01 pm)
Yeah, I'm making Karune. She's needed.
(January 1, 2017 - 11:56 pm)
Karune is up on the RP board, but I'm not sure what to do with her.
(January 5, 2017 - 1:24 pm)
I wonder if I should post her adventures here, or make a separate thread... She has a sister now, Lilly Lamour. I think Nygrune and Lycaella can share.
(January 5, 2017 - 9:43 pm)
Nobody's said where the base is, so I'm going to decide we set up in the
ruins of the old B.I.G. base. Painstakingly hidden deep inside, of
course, but nonetheless.
Lycaella~
I do one last sweep of my room, pull on my backpack, and go out into the
hallway, where Nygrune is packed and waiting. He stands up from his
position leaning against the wall when he sees me.
"Ready?" I ask.
"Yeah. You?"
"Ready as I'll ever be. Let's go!"
"Assuming there's anything left to go back to," he says under his
breath. I pretend not to hear. New Windswood will be fine, right? It
couldn't be that bad. Our houses might have gotten scorched a little, but surely they're okay.
We don't go fast. We have plenty of time; we're not too far away. A day
or two of steady travel will get us there. We dawdle and wander, and so
we hear plenty of news; shadow is missing, gone north. Catastrophe has a
new and powerful sword. A little girl with cardinal wings named Brynn
is the Angel of Death. Elliot is here, and he's not insane anymore. I
actually see Elliot just then, and run over to him without thinking.
"Yes?" he asks. For a moment, I am frozen.
"Your airships bombed my town," I say, my face blank. I don't know what I expect.
"Oh... I'm sorry. I think I was possessed at that time."
Slowly, I nod. My brain has yet to resume functioning properly. I notice
he's holding something. He sees me looking and opens his hand fully to
reveal what looks like a metal bug. It waves an antennae as I look.
"It's a Scion. Trained, don't worry. Would you like it? As a gift, to
apologize for what happened to your town. She feeds off of radiation in
the air."
"Um... Okay." I hold out my hands, and the Scion jumps into them. Its
tiny legs prickle my palms as it scuttles into a steady position.
"Thanks," I say, and turn back to Nygrune, who has edged closer since we stopped.
"You're welcome," he calls. "And I really am sorry!"
"I forgive you!" I'm not completely sure if I mean it, but I think I
might come to. I don't look at him again, but I know he's heard me.
"What was that?" Nygrune asks, after we turn the corner.
"That was Elliot," I say.
"No, I know. What did he give you?"
"Oh. That. He said it's a Scion." I hold it up for Nygrune to see. He jumps back slightly in alarm.
"A Scion?! Why'd he give you one of those?!"
"What? She's trained," I answer, confused. Nygrune relaxes slightly.
"If it tries to hurt anyone, I'm killing it," he says. I frown briefly
but nod, and we continue walking. I put the Scion in the netted outer
side pocket of my backpack, where she sits quietly. Nygrune gives her
occasional suspicious glances all the way past Meek Peak.
~End RP. Sorry to everyone if anything's wrong and to Gared for using Elliot without permission.
(January 7, 2017 - 5:13 pm)
I turn off the radio as it finishes talking about the war. There's rumors that they might even start drafting people, but we'll have to see. Karune's practicing out back, and I'm sitting at the piano, staring at a piece of sheet music that my anger blurs.. I love the piano. I can take out all of my emotions on it. So I do what I've never done before, and I start slamming down the keys in no particular tune. It just sounds like chaos, the kind that the war is creating right now.
(January 8, 2017 - 6:43 am)
Karune~
I'm out back practicing when I hear it. Someone is pounding the piano, really smashing the keys. The noise is terrible. I shove my dagger in its sheath and run inside.
"Lilly, what are you doing? You're going to break your piano!"
She stops and looks up at me, her face sad and scared and angry. A dissonant chord wavers in the air, fading slowly as my shoulders drop and I step towards her.
"I-I'm sorry," she chokes out.
"It's okay," I say more gently. "Come on, let's go for a walk."
I help her up from the piano bench, and we wander outside, making our way slowly to the woods. I pace myself with even strides while she runs in bursts and starts, kicking the earth and swinging her arms viciously. Slowly, her steps start to form into a rhythm, and I quietly tap my fingers against my armor in a sort of harmony. We're well into the trees now, afternoon sunshine making their early autumn leaves more fiery.
"Do you want to talk now?" I ask after a while. Lilly clenches her fists.
"It's the war. It's ruining everything. There's only chaos, like what I was..."
"What you were playing on the piano," I finish softly as she trails off.
"I shouldn't have done that," she says. "It didn't help anything." We walk in silence for a moment.
"Well, I will do everything in my power to make sure it ends soon," I declare. She smiles slightly and runs off to explore a patch of large rocks and fallen trees.
I guide us in a slow arc past boulders and over brooks so that we reach home again by the time Lilly is all brightened up and tired out. She apologizes to the piano (which I remind her doesn't care), and promises to play it properly in the future. Mother scolds us for being gone so long, but I brush her off and go with Lilly to dinner.
~End RP. I think the month it is in Kyngdom is September? Like, the very end of September, with October coming in a few days. I'm not sure. Time is tricky.
(January 9, 2017 - 7:54 pm)
Mother stares at Karune the entire time we eat dinner. Karune occasionally looks up but immediately looks down when she notices Mother continuing to gaze at her.
Finally Mother speaks up. "Karune, dear, stop slouching. And Lilly, tuck back that strand of hair so it doesn't get in your food."
I automatically do so, and so does Karune.
But Karune inhales sharply. "Something on your mind, Mother?"
"Indeed," Mother replies, her reptile spine sitting up straighter. "Karune, it's time you started acting like a real lady. Leave the sports to fun, but let the ladyship be your life."
Karune scoffs looking down and then looks up at Mother. "You're joking."
Mother purses her lips. "No. It is not a joke. While I admire your continual dedication to sports, you need to study other things too."
"I do, Mother," Karune replies irritably.
"And you Lilly," Mother says, directing her death gaze at me. "Need to stop worrying so much about the war. Don't think I didn't hear you upstairs, banging at the piano like that."
"Well if you don't care too much about it, what does it matter that we do?" Karune asks.
Mother narrows her eyes. "What makes you think I don't?"
"Is it not obvious?" I jump in. "This is everyone's problem, and you have a habit of not caring about other people's problems, so...."
"Precisly," Karune says. "It concerns our future now."
"And?" Mother asks.
"Oh forget it then!" I exclaim, shooting up from my seat.
I storm out of the dining room, upstairs, and to my room where I slam the door and cry angrily.
(January 10, 2017 - 9:22 am)
Karune~
I can forgive Mother for correcting my posture (it is important, after all, for the things I want to do as well as the ones she does), but talking to Lilly like that, especially about the war, is a very different matter. I don't follow her; I heard the door to her room slam, and I'll go soon. She likes to be alone sometimes. For now, I have to deal with Mother.
"Well, someone's not being extraordinarily polite," she remarks, not being extraordinarily polite herself. She flares up again when I point this out.
"Karune, you are not to speak that way to your Mother!"
"Mother, it doesn't matter. What matters is that we are living in a time of war, and you can't deny it forever. Lilly is right to worry. Who even knows how long it will last? What will we do if something happens to us because of it?"
She fumes. "You are to become a proper lady and leave these matters to someone else until you are mature enough to understand."
"I do understand, Mother! I'm eighteen. I'm not a child anymore. And what if I have to make one of these decisions myself? With no one to handle it for me?"
She frowns even more deeply, if that's possible. "The life I've spent so long trying to prepare you for will not put you in that situation."
"The life you've prepared may not be the one we live," I retort, and leave her to sulk over what's left of her supper.
A few minutes later, I knock on Lilly's door.
"Lilly, are you in there?"
Recieving no response, I try the handle. It opens easily. I go in, locking the door behind me, to find her huddled up on her bed under a pile of blankets and pillows, headphones on. I push my way under with her, and she allows me to wrap my arms around her in a gentle hug.
"She's just so... annoying," Lilly sniffles.
"You were going to say stupid, weren't you," I say, drying her tears with the handkerchief Mother makes me carry around. Lilly nods slightly.
"Well, she's that, too," I declare. Lilly half-smiles.
"I wish she would understand about the war."
"I wish she would stop haranguing us about being proper ladies."
"I wish..."
We go on for probably an hour, spending another on plans and ideas and speculation before she sends a maid to tell us to go to bed. By then we've blown a lot of steam off, so I say good night to Lilly and start to leave. I pause in the doorway on my way out.
"If there's anything you ever need me for, I'm just down the hall."
She nods, and I say good night once more before I step from the brightness of her room out into the dark hallway.

Lycaella~
I was right, thank Sylvia. New Windswood is surprisingly intact, with few places heavily damaged and even fewer destroyed. What’s left is already being repaired and rebuilt. Nygrune sent a radio signal for Laeta that my house is almost completely fine and she can come stay with us for a while if she wants. We visited her house, too, although it’s mostly ruined. The foundation seems to be okay, apart from being heavily scorched and buried in what’s left of the rest of the house. It was really hit hard. There are a few half-melted glass and metal scraps here and there.
Nygrune’s--Aris’, I guess--house is sort of okay. We didn’t get too close, but it was still dark inside, and maybe half the roof and more of the porch seem to have burned away. A bunch of the places we saw were like that. Plenty were fine, though. People seem to be more on their guard, but they’re also helping each other out, so I guess things are back to whatever normal is now. The ones we asked said it was just a fly-over raid, that no one else came except a few friendly humans who stayed on to help out, and that none of the airships returned.
“I’m sorry,” I told Nygrune as he unlocked the door.
“What for?” he asked.
“For...” I didn’t know.
“If it’s for accepting that Scion, thank you for apologizing. If it’s for your house still being here when Laeta’s collapsed, make your confusing apology to her.”
I smile, perhaps a bit oddly, and we go inside. I set the Scion--I think I'm going to name her Oxia--on the kitchen table, where she decides to stretch her little metal bug legs. She tries to scuttle down to the floor, but I guide her back up, and this time she stays. Nygrune looks as though he's going to say something, but doesn't. Mentally I shrug, and we go to unpack.
~End RP. Later, Lycaella and Nygrune find the bakery still standing, so they get muffins, and Oxia is adorably curious.
(January 12, 2017 - 10:09 pm)
I lay in my bed, happy that Karune is my elder sister. To be honest, sometimes she's the only person that understands me.
I put my earbuds and phone on my dresser and scoot deeper into the blankets. I guess a positive thing about being a lady is that the beds feel like clouds.
I'm halfway asleep when thunder outside sounds. The thunder continues over and over, the room swirling. I'm sitting up but otherwise paralyzed, and my eyes glaze over while everything turns red. I force myself to move my fingers a little bit. I can't scream, for two reasons. One, the sound catches in my throat, and two, if I do, Mother would know of my astraphobia. So I stay there, frozen, my breathing becoming shallower and my legs and hands growing numb. I try to call for Karune, but I can't. An impenetrable force is in my throat.
But Karune knows better.
Out of the roaring thunder and rain, I can faintly hear her at the door, banging and yelling for me. The maid must have locked the door. Fear of robbers, I suppose.
The sound. All the sound. It rages around me, like a fire that can't be ceased.
Finally a booming sound of the door crashing down comes to my ears. Karune runs over to me and shakes my shoulders, saying things completley inaudible to me. I look at her face, but something catches my eye on her shirt. A small, golden, but noticable pin is clasped. A Resistance pin.
(This was kind of developing Lilly's character more, and also this is when she first discovers that Karune is secretly supporting the Resistance.)
