RULES
I will kill you off if it pleases me. (eerie laughter)
I get to choose your powers.
Fill out ENTIRE charrie sheet.
I will choose MCs. I cap the story at fifteen people.
PLOT:
The world is Earth. Everything is the same but for one thing that has dominated the culture like ivy covering an ancient wall: True Names. When you are born, your parents give you your official name, like Paul or Lisa. But as soon as you turn 13, your True Name appears on your wrist.
Often, a true name describes someone's best attribute or worst flaw: Kindness or Greed are common names. The names never describe physical attributes like agile or swift.
Unfortunately, there is one more type of name: the Forbidden Names.
These names are seemingly random, like Flame or Dachsund, and they give extraordinary abilities. Well, dachsund-summoning isn't that amazing, but-oops, getting off track.
People who have Forbidden Names are hunted down. It's not like the owners of Forbidden Names have a choice, but the True Guard doesn't care.

AND NOW, PART 3~
Ten minutes earlier:
Shadow "Shade" Dragon waited at the bus stop, pulling at her hands. It had been days since she used her gift, and she could feel it inside, struggling to break free.
Shade heard footsteps like the patter of a stream into a basin behind her and turned to see Brookeira, an armload of books in her pale hands. Where Shade looked like an elf of the forest, too wild and raw for the city, Keira looked like an elf of the icy seas, too pure and pale. They cut an odd pair, but their friendship was a close one.
In fact, Shade would probably say that Keira was her only friend.
After all, they were both Forbiddens.
Shade pushed away the thoughts of the True Guard and waved to her friend.
Keira grinned back. "I bought you a book on dragons," she said, panting softly, "I know you like them."
Shade grinned. "Thanks. And I see you bought ten D&D Manuals."
"The more-the m-the better," Keira panted as she hoisted the books into her sack.
The pair did not wait for the bus; they walked to Shade's house, dallying at the ice cream parlor (Keira, despite looking like an innocent elf of the sea, put away three fudgsicles) and watching the birds in the park. The birds tended to crowd around one girl: most hardly knew her and called her "The Novelist" instead.
The girl cut a lonely figure, the black swirl in her hair stark against the auburn. She wrote for a living, and as the girls passed, she dove deeper into her work. Shade and Keira uneasily hurried on, tugging at their sleeves. The Novelist took great interest in that.
"We need to stop tugging at our sleeves," Keira said, mindful of the microphones everywhere, "it's such a weird nervous habit, Serious."
"You're right, Smart," Shade said. The names they stated were their forged names, the ones Shade's sister, Curious, had given to them.
Shade and Brookeira polished off the last of the collective popsicles and headed for the house.
They stopped in the middle of the street.
"Weird," Shade muttered, "the door is open..."
Shade and Brookeira entered to see members of the True Guard questioning Curio. The Guard swiveled and pointed their pistols at the girls. Keira put her hands up; Shade put her hands on her hips.
"Shade, Keira, leave," Curio said, panic inching through her voice like blood in water.
"Shade, we should go," said Brookeira, pulling at Shade's arm. Shade scowled and pulled away.
"What are you doing to my sister?" Shade yelled.
"She is suspected of True Name forgery," the Guard Leader sighed, "and she won't talk."
"Keira, leave," Shade said. Keira lingered for a moment before Shade whirled. "LEAVE!"
Keira's eyes pooled with coming tears as she left slowly.
"My sister is not a forger," Shade said calmly.
"Our mikes picked up pretty dang good evidence," a Guardsman said. Shade groaned internally.
"Well, my patience is waning," the Leader sighed.
Abruptly two men grabbed Shade by her arms and legs. Curio screamed, but she, too was held back.
A syringe was held near Shade's left wrist; Shade didn't need to be a genius to know it was full of poison.
"Let's try again," the Leader hissed, "is your sister, Catherine Curious "Curio" Dragon, a Forger?"
Shade shuddered, but was stalwart. She shook her head at Curio. "No."
The men looked at each other uneasily. Shade grinned. She'd called their bluff. She-
Abruptly the syringe-holder left and went over to Curio. "NO!" Shade screamed.
"Good," the Leader smiled, "is your sister, Curio, a forger?"
Curio shook her head. "N-no," Shade said. the Guard sensed her hesitation.
"Let's try again," the Leader said. Shade was propped up and watched in horror as the man poked the tip of the needle into Curio's arm, "is Curio a forger?"
"No!" Shade said, more out of panic than bravery.
Shade shut her eyes, but she knew that some of the poison had just been injected into Curio's blood. Curio gasped and made a shriek-whisper of pain.
"She is not a forger," Shade said, tears running down her face.
"Open your (expletive) eyes," the leader snarled, "we know your sister is a (expletive) forger, admit it or we don't have evid-"
He caught himself, and Shade felt a sliver of hope. She opened her eyes to see the Leader fuming with rage. The Leader put on a strained smile. The man with the syringe pulled the syringe out of Curio's arm.
"Fine," he hissed, "one more bloody time. Is. Your. Sister. Curio. A forger?"
"No," Shadow smirked.
The Leader scowled, gathered his people, and began to leave. Shade was unceremoniously dropped on the ground.
The Leader snatched the syringe up and whisper-snarled at his followers.
"Oh, and one more thing," the Leader hissed.
The Leader whirled and stabbed the syringe into Curio's arm, injecting the last of the poison.
Shade's mind fell to pieces; one piece heard Shadow scream, another heard Curio slump to the floor, another felt Shade's gift break free.
Shade's true name was a Forbidden one. It was Dragon.
Two pitch black wings erupted from her shoulder blades. Horns grew through her skulls, spirals of pewter and obsidian. Her nails became dull silver, her eyes serpentine and full of potent rage.
Her mind then came back together with one goal.
That night, news all over the country broadcast the story.
A Forbidden girl assaulted members of the True Guard for trying to arrest her sister. Catherine Curious "Curio" Dragon had been "accidentally caught in the crossfire."
Shadow (Unknown True Name) "Shade" Dragon was still at large. A security camera saw another girl come out of a storage room/closet once the True Guard was gone. Shade and the girl, who some have deduced may be Abigail (Unknown True Name) "Abi" Hanaua of Angel Tear Village. These two are very dangerous.
Keira read the news and cried. The reporters were liars. All of them.
Keira slowly, mechanically, began to pack a bag, using her telekinesis unreservedly. She didn't care at this point, allowing the psionic energy to curl around objects like tentacles, lifting them into her pack.
Don't worry, Dragon. Psion will be there soon.

Great job, Brook :) l love how the culture is built around True Names and Forbidden Names.
(June 28, 2016 - 11:01 am)
Liberty's computer binged, signaling an incoming e-mail. She sighed, then clicked over to her inbox. Probably it was just her boss at the flower shop, bothering her about tomorrow's shipments or-
She froze. The message wasn't from her boss, it was from "Amity Washington." The cover account for her subordinate agents in Starbird, the underground spy network that helped Forbiddens all over the country. There might be other such networks all over the world, but that was on a need-to-know basis only. Liberty was only a local supervisor, so she didn't need to know.
The message itself said nothing of import, an imaginary friend of Liberty's going on about an imaginary visit this Saturday. A couple well-placed hacks later, Liberty revealed the real message, hidden as just a few lines of plaintext piggybacking on the e-mail, almost invisible to scanning software should the government take notice:
THE DOGS ARE ON OUR TRAIL. NOBODY'S FAULT, JUST CARELESS NEW HATCHLING. SERPENT ONE HAS PULLED A PHOENIX. SERPENT SCENTMASK HAS GONE TO GROUND. -SERPENT TWO
Liberty put her head in her hands, a pit of sorrow settling in her stomach. "Hatchling" referred to a new Forbidden, "scentmask" to the forger's shop run by Serpent until recently, and "pulling a phoenix" meant...well, it meant whoever'd done it was imprisoned or dead. She'd heard about the tragedy on the news, of course, and had suspected it was her own Serpent cell, but to get confirmation straight from the source... Serpent One, apparently "Curio," had been a rising star within Starbird. She'd freelanced for a year as Agent Hyperspace, becoming a tattoo artist as a day job and learning a staggering amount about how Starbird - and the True Guards - worked, before something happened and Hyperspace became Team Serpent. She'd been the one who ran the scentmask, did the actual hiding and tattooing. Losing a scentmask, the cell's remaining three agents on the run, when Agent Fox had already died earlier this week, was a heavy blow to Liberty's district.
Her breath escaped her in one long sigh. I hope Two, Three, Four, and the hatchling got out safely. Inhaling deeply in an attempt to remain calm, Liberty sent an e-mail back to "Amity Washington," piggybacking the real message - her weekly update - on it just as Serpent Two, probably Shadow, had done.
IN THE SKY: MIST, EAGLE, SEAFARER, VERDANT, VERDANT SCENTMASK, COMMUNICATIONS WITH FISHER DISTRICT, COMMUNICATIONS WITH BACKWATER DISTRICT, LIBERTY. IN THE FIELD: SERPENT, TOUCHSTONE, COMMUNICATIONS WITH EON DISTRICT. IN THE FIRE: FOX, SERPENT SCENTMASK, SERPENT ONE. DIRECTIVES: VERDANT SEND AGENT TO COVER FOR FOX. ALL KEEP ON ALERT. FOR EQUALITY! -LIBERTY
Liberty shut down the computer, rubbing at her eyes. It was late, and she needed to be there early at the flower shop tomorrow. She did her nighttime ablutions, changed into pajamas, and climbed into bed...but it was a while before sleep came for her.
We lost a scentmask. Oh, God. What in the world will happen now?
************
This is just random crazy stuff I made up. "In the sky" means agents or groups who are in the clear; "in the field" means agents under suspicion or on the run; "in the fire" means imprisoned, dead, or shut down. "In the pack" would mean agents who've betrayed the Starbird, but that one's rarely used. None of the other agents mentioned (except the other Serpents and their "hatchling") are meant to be CBers. Everyone disregard this if it's against what Brookeira had in mind. I know, I know, this is rather presumptive of a ghost.
(June 28, 2016 - 1:34 pm)
So...is this what you had in mind, Brookeira, or is it just a bunch of false musings from a deceased secondary character? (I kinda like the idea of those who help Forbiddens being semi-organized, even if the specifics are wildly different from this spur-of-the-moment side story, but this is your saga, not mine. You call the shots.)
(June 29, 2016 - 12:46 pm)
Umm, Brook? Sorry, but I did fill in my form right before you did the intro for Abi. It probably hadn't shown up when you were posting her intro, but if you check, it's there.
