So. Superheroes. Pretty awesome people, especially when they can do stuff like fly and control things with their minds. And beat the bad guys. The plot could be a bunch of kids who go to this everyday school and learn about each others powers. Then they beat up some bad guy. Anyone interested?
Name: Pepper Collins
Super power: Invisibility and sometimes forcefields
Age: 14
Appearence: Shoulder length black hair, extremely green eyes, about 5'7, tan.
Personality: Nice, cares about others, and is generally friendly, but if need be, will rip you to shreads.
Other: Lives with her father, stepmother and two stepsisters. Her mother died when she was 10, and she misses her alot. Her stepmother is like the one from Cinderella, especially when she brags about her daughters and tells Pepper every five minutes what a worthless thing she is. she is secretly scared of her powers, and claims Pepper is a freak. Her dad travels, so she never see's him.
If anyone has suggestions on the plot, feel free to change it.

Sorry this is short, but I don't want to be responsible for any other characters' decisions.

"I'll do it." A kid with light brown hair and freckles whose name I think is Dale steps forward, looking scared but brave at the same time. I was encountering the same mix of emotions. Should I or should I not? The Protectorate obviously offered opportunities and a purpose. But did I want people to know about me? My dad knew about me, obviously. All of the kids here did. Nobody else knew about my powers. The Protectorate would change all of that. But suddenly I felt a rush of anger and determination. My whole life, I had been hiding. Why stay in the shadows?
I made myself taller and my voice a little deeper as I stepped forward. "I'll do it, too." Brother Grim the superhero. Who would have thought?

Pepper~
"Well Pepper?" Leota gave me a hard glare. "Are you staying or leaving?" I looked around. Most kids had timidly taken a form and started to sign. "A few questions first." Leota nodded. "I'm listening."
"Okay, One, will I be in more danger if I join?" Leota shook her head. "No. Actually, you'll be in less danger. We protect all our employees with our lives." I nodded.
"Two, who's the main bad guy we're supposed to be fighting?" Leota looked nervous. "You'll learn about that when we fully recruit you." I nodded again.
"And three, do we have to wear those things?" I pointed at her leotard. A few people burst out laughing, but stopped when Leota gave everyone an icy glare. "You are required to wear something like this. It's either this or a full body suit." I gave a sigh of relief. "I'll take the body suit." She nodded. "Great. Just fill out the form." I grabbed one and gave it a look.
Name: Pepper Collins
Age: Fourteen
Code Name: Shadow girl
Powers: Invisibility and forcefield
Danni looked over at my form and snorted. "Shadow girl? Seriously?" I rolled my eyes. "Better than invisible girl or chamelion." She went red and looked over the rest of my form. "Can I ask you a question?
"Sure."
"Why is your name Pepper?"
I bit my lip and looked at the ground. "It was my mom's idea. She loved cooking and she said Pepper is the most reliable and flavorful. She wanted three girls, Pepper, Nutmeg, and Ginger, but..." I looked up, expecting Danni to laugh, but her face was straight. Most of the school remembered when my mom died. My class had whispered about it for months.
"I'm sorry" was all Danni said. I shrugged. "Yeah, Whatever. Thanks." I went over to Leota and handed her my form. "Good. This looks like it's in order," she said. "When we get all the forms, we'll talk."

Rin~
I accepted the paper and scribbled down my name. Rin Smiles, Miss Strands. I couldn't think of anything better. I stared at the words for a moment, then I remembered the day I had first found out my power.
It was the day after Danni had almost drowned. I was sitting in a tree, looking down at the crazy old man's house. I needed to get him back, he had almost killed her. The police had let him off, thinking that he was just a crazy old man, and he was back at home, raking his lawn. I finally decided, I would throw rocks at him. I was high in the tree; I needed to climb down to get the stones. I started climbing off my tree limb, and then I began to fall, dow , down, down. I was too high in the tree, I was about to die. Then, I had a feeling, like I had many extra arms. I reached them out, as far as I could, trying to reach the branchs, so the old man didn't see me. I clambered back up and looked at my "hands", it was my hair! I let out a childish shriek and almost fell out of the tree again. I decided that before I was to take my revenge, I needed to learn how to weild my power first.
I then looked up from my paper and reached for Danni's, she reached for mine and we switched paper. "Hmm, chamelon, nice," I said; she snickered when she saw my name. We handed each other back our papers and looked over at the rest of the group. Noliam was leaving. She turned around to Leota and told her that being a hero was not something that she wanted to do. She then left the house. (This way, if you want to join again, you can have her change her mind.)

Adam-
To join, or not to join, that is the question, I thought. Sure, it would be nice to use your powers for things other than controlling the plumbing, but then again, it sounded rather time consuming. Eh, why not? I had time on my hands, and could be giving the library a break.
"I'll join." I stepped forward, and noticed Rin and Danni going to a person on the other side of the meeting area. That Leota girl ended up taking my name down. She looked pretty weird, considering the psychadelic getup she was wearing.
"Follow everyone else," she said. I guess that isn't her motto, I thought sarcastically.

Danni-
I turned away from Pepper feeling slightly stupid. I knew what it was like to lose a parent. I'd lost both of mine.
It was a very rainy night and my family was driving home from our Gramdmother's funeral. My brother was leaning against the car door with his headphones in his ears looking depressed. My mom was asleep in the shotgun seat, and my dad was at the wheel. I was 10 years old. My father drove silently, but I was begging for someone to talk, I was so depressed I needed to talk to someone.
"Dad?" I said finally.
"Not now Danielle." I looked at the floor. He'd been pushing me away every since he found out about my powers 5 years ago. Eventually I had stopped linking being called Danielle, because only he called me that, and he was usually dissapointed in me.
The car suddenly started to swerve. He was turning the wheel left and right trying desprately to keep the car still, but it only made the car swerve more violently. My mother was jolted awake, and Marc (my brother) took out his headphones.
"Anthony! Get a hold of the wheel!" My mother snapped. She was never happy, not since we'd found out about our grandmother's heart attack.
"I'm trying!" My dad shouted. She was about to put her hand on the wheel when the car jerked to the right. Marc unbuckled my seat belt and grabbed me. He opened the car door, and with one last glance at our dad he jumped out with me in his arms.
"Dad! Mom!" I shouted. Too late the car went over the edge of a cliff. I ran to the edge, ignoring Marc's shouting for me to stop. I stared in horror as the car rolled down the side of the cliff before crashing at the bottum.
I shivered at the memory.
All the newly membered members fallowed Leota until we reached a tall white room with 5 doors. Each one had a different number. They started at one and ended at 9, each one was an odd number. Leota stood in front of us looking superior.
"She looks very high and mighty for a 14 year old." I whispered to Rin. She surpressed a giggle.
"You will all go through door one and be introduced to the rest of the Protectorate, as well as find out who we fight with the most. Fallow me." We fallowed her through door one to see about twenty other adults waiting for us. Most of them were dressed in colorful spandex like Leota.
"Do we all have to wear spandex Leota? I mean, Spector." I asked mockingly. She glared at me.
"It's either a version of this or a body suit, Chameleon." I returned her glare stedily.
"Now, onto the villan." Legion interupted.

That was beautifully written, it was very touching to read, even though it is not real, it felt real.

Adam-
Name: Adam Jakobs
Code Name: AEgirNix
Power: Control water, sometimes involuntarily ends up in other worlds.
The lady looked at my sheet and laughed.
"Aygerniks? Involuntarily ends up in other worlds?" She laughed again, "what are you, crazy?"
"Sorry about the diphthong." I tell her, "AEgir, with the A and E together is the Norse god of water, and Nix is a water spirit."
"Write this again, with the pronunciation, but you do your research well." She admits. Here we go again. I think.
Name: Adam Jakobs
Code Name: AEgirNix (Pronounce: AY-jeer-niks)
Power: Control water
I left out the other worlds part, as my pen was running out of ink.

Thanks Listening Daisy!
I've had that idea for a while, I just didn't have a character it would work for

Leota-
Honestly, the suit is the best part of the job. I really can't understand why no one wanted one! To each his own, I guess.
I was very proud of myself. I had turned a text message by a classmate into a recruiting opportunity. Finally, we would have more people. We used to have a lot more people before the incident. I shivered. That had been scary.
I had joined the Protectorate when I was 12. Legion had saved me from drowning then. When I went to hug him to thank him, I went right through him. I have much better control of my powers now. Originally, I wasn't going to sign up. Then, I thought, I was found in a graveyard as a baby. This would give me an excuse to find out who I am. I mean, all superhero agencies have huge databases filled with endless information, right?
They do. I'm just not cleared to go there yet. I'm still working on it.
As Pepper walked to the briefing room, I pulled her aside. "Hey, thanks for bringing everyone together," I said excitedly, "Now we might have enough people to bring down Luminesce!"
I had a personal grudge against her. One day, we got a tip that she was going to steal a million dollars. When a team, consisting of me and twenty other heroes (she's that big of a threat) got to the bank, a cage fell down over us. I went right through the bars to get out. However, I couldn't get anyone else out of the cage. As the floor of the cage opened up, I could see blades glinting in the sunlight. I was the only survivor. My best friend in the agency, a girl code named Kite was in there. I still have the friendship bracelet she gave me when we met.
I shook my head to clear the flashback. Feeling a little less excited, I followed Pepper towards the briefing room. Legion stopped me before I could get in, though.
(July 19, 2012 - 4:05 pm)
Pepper~
I looked around the briefing room. It was huge, and only had white walls and about 20 other heroes. A middle-aged woman with brown hair streaked with grey walked towards us.
"Hello. I'm Meridan. Welcome to the Protectorate." She looked around at us, but her eyes stopped dead on me.
I couldn't figure it out. Her face went a pale color, and her big brown eyes went huge. I looked around in case there was some evil person lurking behind me, but there wasn't. When I turned back, it was as though it had never happened. Meridan's face was exactly how it had been before she had laid eyes on me.
"As I was saying, Welcome. There are 335 heroes here, a short amount for the protecting we have to do." She looked around again, and I swear her eyes lingered on me. What was her problem? "I will speak to each of you and test you. Pepper, will you go first?" I stared at her. "How do you know my name?" She shook her head. "Not important. Follow me."
I followed her into another room. It was smaller, but no less bleak. Meridan looked over at me. "I'm a mind reader Pepper. I run this operation when our head is away." I nodded. She nodded over at a spot in the room. "Stand there." I obeyed her. "Close your eyes. I am going to try to get a memory from you. Block me out as much as you can." I closed my eyes.
I was standing in a whitewashed room at our local hospital. Dad was out having a private meeting with the doctors, but we all knew what they were telling him. She only had a few hours left.
Mom lay in the creaky bed decorated with get well cards and pictures drawn by me. Her beautiful black hair that looked so much like mine was limp and lifeless. Her face was exhausted, but her beautiful eyes were alive. She smiled her beautiful smile at me and motioned for me to come over.
"Sweetie?" she said, taking my hand. "Can you promise me a few things?" I wiped away my tears and nodded. The horrible lump in her stomach that was causing all of this was bulging.
"First off, I want you to promise me that you'll be a good girl for dad. I know that he'll be okay if you're with him." I sniffled. "Mom, stop it! It's not fair!" I wailed.
"Shh." She squeezed my hand. "There's one more thing." She looked straight at me. "You know you're a little different. Don't let that hurt you or make you someone you're not. It's a dangerous business, being able to disappear. But be proud of who you are." I cocked my head. "What..." She shook her head. "Don't try to think about it now. Just... follow your heart." I nodded and hugged her.
The next day, after we got the news that she was gone, I had made myself disappear and rushed to her room, telling myself that she was there. I barged in, crying my eyes out. The white bed was neat and empty. The get well cards were gone. The beautiful woman with the black hair and loving smile wasn't here anymore. The room sat cold and empty, waiting for its next resident to arrive.
I gasped and fell down, breathing hard. I had been so wrapped up in my memory, I had almost forgotten about Meridan. Her back was to me, and her voice came out shaky.
"You made the team Pepper. Congratulations. You can go." I rushed out of the room, sniffing back a lump in my throat, and closed the door. Behind me, I could swear I could hear a sob. As I walked away, only one thought ran through my mind.
Who is she?
(July 19, 2012 - 5:06 pm)
Adam-
"I'm going to try to read your mind. Block me out as long as you can." Immediately I felt an intruder. I knew what that felt like, after living in various other worlds. She felt weak, and easy to keep busy. I let her into my mind for a while, letting her learn about a false story of getting a dog. She looked disappointed, as if saying to herself, "That's the best he can do?" I waited several minutes, and launched my attack. I wandered in her mind a bit, empty and lost. Then I found a memory of her being abducted on the street. I knew I had struck a nerve, and she exited my mind quickly.
"You pass," she said reluctantly. I unballed my fists, and water spilled out. I guess I had been nervous.
"Oh, one thing," she added as I was about to leave, "never do that again."
(July 19, 2012 - 7:01 pm)
Danni-
"Danni, your turn." The woman called after Adam came out looking slightly angry. I walked into the room and she closed to door behind me. I stood in the white room and waited.
"I'm going to take a memory, block me out as much as you can." She said. I turned around, no one was allowed inside my mind. But she went in anyway. I flinched as I felt her sort through memories. I tried to block her out as much as I could, but she found what she was looking for. The memory of the day I got my powers. I stood there, trying to kick her out of my mind while she made me re-live one of my worst memories. Finally she left, I fell to the floor gasping.
"You pass." She said with a smile. I touched the floor, became plastic and punched her as hard as I could. She spun around and hit the floor.
"Why did you do that?!" She snapped.
"Why did you need to be in my mind?" I asked with a full on glare lighting up my face.
"It's part of the test." She said rotating her jaw to make sure it still worked.
"Well stay out of my head." I snapped, and stormed out of the room. Rin gave me a what-stupid-thing-did-you-do-now look. I glanced back at that stupid woman as she called another name.
"She goes into you're head and takes a memory. Most likely your worst, or second worse one." Rin rolled her eyes.
"What did you do?"
"I punched her."
"Gosh Danni, we've only been here for 20 minutes!" I leaned against the wall.
"You don't know what it felt like."
"Not yet, but I'm going to, and then I'll decide whether socking her was justified." I just stared across the room. The idea that anyone was able to do that sickened me. She was someone I was going to avoid as much as possible.
"So which was it for you?" Rin asked.
"What?"
"Worst, or second worst?"
"Worst."

"I'm going to try to read your mind," the woman said. "Block me out as long as you can."
Oh, great. She's going to read my mind? Hope she comes out sane. There's a lot in there I wouldn't want--
She assaults me.
It feels sort of like a small tidal wave, and instantly my hands ball into fists and my eyes get so dark I knew it would be nearly impossible to even see my pupils. It would be like trying to find a black ball in a puddle of ink.
I feel her mental probe searching my mind and instantly scramble for something to block her. I'm thinking coherently. Can she feel what I'm thinking right now? Suddenly I feel something rising to the surface, like a bubble in a black sea.
Oh, no. No, no, no. Not now. Please stop. I throw everything I can at her, but suddenly I'm submerged, like I've fallen into that selfsame ocean. I barely manage to feel myself collapsing onto my knees.
The blue car drives along the country road. The remnants of a picnic are piled haphazardly in the trunk. It's been one of the few happy days since Aidan's mother died. He and his sister, Kaitlyn, are playing a game with his father. They are talking happily.
Suddenly the steering wheel jerks to the side. Aidan's father jumps, trying to hold the wheel steady, but the car is plowing toward the edge of the road. Kaitlyn screams. The heavy black van that had crashed into them is skidding away. The rusty metal railing on the side of the mountain road splits. And then they are falling...
The blue car catches on a tree branch and hits the ground just as the engine explodes in a ball of flame. Aidan and Kaitlyn catch a glimpse of their father hanging limply in the tree, where he had fallen out of the car door he had tried to open. Kaitlyn screams as the flames reach up to engulf them. Suddenly Aidan feels his skin twisting, stretching. His clothes melt away as panic takes over, revving his power to its highest extent. The black bear roars in agony as the hungry flames rise up around it. Burning. Burning...
...
...
I was lying facedown in the floor of a room. The woman, Meridan, looks a little intimidated, maybe even scared. She says, "I'm sorry. I just...I touched it, the memory, and it broke the dam. But...you pass."
I nod. I force myself to get to my feet. My hands are shaking. I can almost feel the flames all across my body, burning away flesh. I leave the room with unsteady steps. Once outside, I shift into a fly.
I do not feel like talking right now.

Ugh. Must think of bad memory for Dale. Will be back...
Later: Yay! Thought of a bad memory for Dale!!!
Random message from Dale: Why must you torment me so?! Yesterday, I was just an ordinary kid who just so happened to have superpowers! I had no sister!
Dale~
Adam came out, looking shaky. I came in, scared.
"I am going to enter your mind and seek out one of your memories. Try to block me. Is that fine with you?"
I feel her presence in my mind before I could scream "NO!"
They were playing in the yard, Dale and his sister Lydia. Their parents were inside, discussing the roof and other problems of the sort. There were plenty of plants, and Dale was amusing Lydia by making them dance. A gardener's power, she had called it, but she had leaned to respect it, just like he had learned to respect her ability to run as fast as a cheetah when she wanted to. Dale and his sister, both with powers. Their father had powers too, simple ones: the ability to levitate things at will. Dale had called it stupid.
His father had never joined the Protectorate. Whenever their mother mentioned it, he would lose his temper and give the whole family the silent treatment until the next day. Except for Lydia. She was their favorite, she was everything a son should have been: impulsive, strong, brave. And he was a coward. A weak coward.
That day in the yard, Dale had looked up and saw three men surrounding them. "They're the kids," one grunted.
"Too bad the father hadn't joined the Protectorate, he could have been able to protect his kids, hur hur," added another.
Dale screamed, and the plants rushed to his aid, forming a wall around him. Some of them bound the mens' legs, and then they let Dale go.
"Run, Lydia! Take my hand and run!" he hollered, reaching for her hand. With her power, they could escape.
"No way!" she snapped. "I'm not going to be your tool in getting away, coward! These men are supervillains or something, probably!"
No, no, no. I hated the part that came next. I couldn't relive it again. I had almost forgotten.
I could feel the memory, as thin as a shadow. Closing my eyes, I tried as hard as possible to push it out. There was a small exclamation of pain next to me, but I didn't notice. I just pushed. I had to get that memory out. I had to!
I kept pushing, until I heard a voice over me, "Wake up! You pass, you pass!" Something shook me roughly.
But I hadn't gotten it out. It was in me, clear as ever.
"You tried to block out a memory," she explained. "You expelled me instead. Dale, never try to block out a memory. It can lead to insanity. It never goes well, you were lucky I was there."
As I came out, I sat downon a bench and muttered, "Whoever's next, watch out. I would be willing to bet you anything that you won't enjoy it."
~~~
A thought which probably won't be answered for a while since SC's on vacation: did Legion have to take the same test? How did he handle it?
