CBer Student Lounge!

CBer Student Lounge!

Hey guys! With school starting, I thought I'd create this place to take a break from homework and talk about school! Here you can compare classes, post notes, get help on different subjects, share essays, rant about online school, and procrastinate your schoolwork.

What classes are you guys taking this year? I'm going into 10th grade, which is insane! I'm also taking my first AP, which is kind of nervewracking. My school started last week, and we are doing full time zoom calls :(. Here are my classes:

- AP Art History

- Mandarin II

- Humanities II

- Honors Chemistry

- Advanced Algebra

- Product Design

- Fashion Design

- Spiritual Exploration

I hope some of you guys have the same classes so we can study together! Hope to see you in the lounge!

Wowwwwwwww, so cool! I'm still in middle school :p I'm taking journalism as an elective, and the rest is just core classes like math and stuff. Also my school isn't giving us our schedules until the day before school starts umu they procrastinate more than I do XD

Here are some notes for chemistry I took the other day! I'm usually the least organized person ever, so I'm so pround of this. Do you guys have any organization tips?

I'm taking an AP college prep course, along with AP US History, AP Chemistry (I did take honors chem last year so I can hopefully help you, Fi!), AP English 3, Calculus BC (which is 2 years of Calc 1 and Calc 2 combined into one year because I have zero chill), band, and Latin 3. If anyone needs help with their classes, I might be able to help since I've definitely kept all my old notes!

@Fi, a tip I use for organizing is to have two notebooks/places for each class: one that you scribble down notes in when your teacher is giving a lecture, and one where you go back through and organize everything and make it "pretty". (If you're taking notes from a book or something though, you can probably just put it directly into the "pretty" notebook.) Having two notebooks allows you to organize your thoughts, and when you rewrite the information it helps solidify it in your brain. Another thing that worked for me was that instead of having a notebook, I had a slim binder with loose leaf paper in it. That way I could rearrange the pages to whatever order they made the most sense to me. I really only used this for English class, but I could definitely see it being useful in math. I'm honestly not the most organized person irl, but let me think of some more tips. Oh! Different colored highlighters are so helpful, like seriously. They're not only fun to work with, but you can categorize different things very easily. Have a specific place for each class (a notebook, a binder, etc) is very helpful as well, instead of just one big notebook/binder/etc where you take ALL your notes. This *can* result in having a lot of stuff crammed into your backpack, so maybe try to figure out which classes actually need a full notebook and which ones can share a binder with dividers. For example, I took all my math notes in a thick notebook that was entirely for math, since I used it every day for homework and notes. But I had a binder full of loose paper for English and Latin to share, because I didn't use it every day. Make sense?  I also have a little black notebook with blank pages that I do all my doodling in, since I like to have something to do with my hands when I'm not taking notes and it helps keep my homework free of drawings. :) Uh, that got really long, but yeah! I hope this helped! :D

Thank you so much Star! The art notebook is such a good idea, because I literally have little doodles over all my school stuff. Last year I was such a mess and I would take bio, math, and French notes in my sketchbook. I had CBer picturings on one side and French vocab on the other.

Your class load is insane. I can't believe you're doing Calculus BC and AP Chem in the same year. Are you applying to colleges this year?

Oh wow that class load is insane! Wow. Good for you, but take care of yourself! I go to a private school and we don't have as many AP classes offered, alas, at least but Honors classes still weight GPAs for us. Have you started SAT/ACT prep?

@Fi, I'm not applying to colleges this year since I'm only a junior, but I'm definitely starting to look into some! Right now I'm looking at the University of Kansas, since it's not too far and NASA hires straight out of their aerospace engineering program, as well as the University of Wisconsin in Madison, since it has an astrophysics program, and I know some people who live in Wisconsin who I'd like to be closer to. My parents and I have also tossed around the idea of me going to Oxford, actually, though it is rather far and has a difficult admissions program (plus the sheer amount of MONEY involved!). I do want to go away from home for college, but that seems a little excessive. A local-ish college does a 2-year exchange program with Oxford, so I dunno. Options!

@Abi, one of my friends is actually taking 7 AP classes this year, so it could be worse. XD I'm aiming to graduate valedictorian or at least summa cum laude. I go to a public school, so we offer a wide range of AP classes; including AP Art, AP Biology, and AP Computer Science, none of which I am taking. I haven't started any SAT/ACT prep, which is bad since the original plan was for me to take it this summer and again in the fall, but with COVID and my sister's health/driving plans it's been a bit swept under the rug. That's an excellent reminder, though! I should definitely get signed up to take those.

Speaking of college and school plans, whichever Admin is on right now, where did you go to college?

~Starseeker

I went to Middlebury College in Vermont.

Cool idea! My school doesn't start until September 1st. Our school is a bit... unpredictable, so honestly I have no clue when we'll get our schedules. I wouldn't be surprised if there are abunch of things we don't figure out until the first day of school. XD

I'm going into 8th grade. Here are the classes I actually KNOW I'm taking:

- Geometry

- English 9

- World History

- Biology

- Band

Other than that, it will probably just be the 'encore' classes like art, music, P.E. (ugh), etc.

question: What is spiritual exploration?

I'm not doing anything exciting this year, unless you count pre-algebra. Granted, I'm only in 7th grade at a tiny private school, so yeah.
