Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Religion. Just to

Religion. Just to let you know, Christianity is a pathway to a relationship with God and Heaven. Read the Bible and think again about what you believe. I'll go in depth later, but please tell me about what your religions are and what you believe. :)

I agree with Mary. You know the saying: Just because you haven't seen something doesn't mean it's not real.

I'm not trying to change your mind (I know it would never work), but just hear me out. I know, it's only human to think if you can't see, hear, taste, smell, or touch something that its not real. But that can't be right.

Have you ever seen...oh, lets say, Jupiter? (just an example) How do you know they're not making it up? How do you know that the pictures aren't faked? How do you know that the "evidence" and scientific studies aren't lied about as well?

You haven't seen, heard, tasted, smelled, or touched it, so how do you know its real?

Again, I'm not trying to change anyone's mind (and definitely not trying to make anyone angry). I'm just trying to make my point clear.

I myself believe in a million dollars because there is proof that it exists.  What proof is there that God exists?  Except for the Bible--and who can say the Bible isn't just a book of fairy tales--has anyone ever seen God?  Like, in the flesh, I mean?  And, sorry . . . Luna Lovegood . . . crumple-horned snorkacks . . .

J'agree. As for Jupiter, (a) there are thousands of pictures (b) It's gravitational effeect on Saturn, comets, and asteriods can be seen. If Jupiter wasn't there, then thousands of comets would come hurtling towards us, and we would be obliterated. Jupiter pulls those comets into it. (c) Do you care if it's a government cover-up? We couldn't find out if it was or wasn't, and if we did, we couldn't tell anyone without being labled a fraud, so Jupiter may exist or not, but as the general consensus is that it is real, then it might as well be real. :D

Also, when people are praying/ having religous experiences, it has been shown that the areas of the brain are used then are the same as the ones used when someone is hallucinating. So god may be the equivalent of an halucination (PLEASE  don't be offended by this. It's not an opinion, it's fact)

What about Our Lady of Guadalupe? I mean that's proof a little. And it's still there, modern scientists have studied it.

Jupiter was an example, Pirocks. You said you don't believe things that can't be detected with your senses, or that you haven't experienced personally. It's obvious that that isn't so, seeing as you believe many things you haven't seen. Like things you learn in history about people who died hundreds of years ago. You'll hear that and believe it. If not you'll get a really bad test grade... Anywho, I'm just sorry that you can't believe this. Many things exist beyond what we can see, hear, taste, smell, or touch. Period.

Let's see, have you heard of the miracle of Lanciano, Italy? (you can google it) Or, as Grace said, Our Lady of Guadalupe? Or the miracle of Sienna, Italy? And the incorrupt tongue of St. John Nepomucene? They are all very cool miracles. There is no explanation for them except God.

Yeah. How come people ignore these miracles? I mean there's proof for you! And scientific proof too! They aren't legends, or things that we know about only from witnesses. Is it because the media doesn't talk about them? Is it because they just ignore them? It seems to me that maybe even if there was solid proof of God, people would try to avoid it. Why? Because some people don't want a God. They don't want to have to worry about heaven and hell, about being good, about having someone always watching them, about religion, about church, about doing God's will, about not being able to run around and do whatever you want. The reasons are endless. But I assure you - because God is such a loving God (in my opinion :) ) each of things are a joy to do. God isn't someone to run away from. He's someone to run to.

What is Our Lady of Gaudalupe? Also, as for miracles, I don't believe in them. I have never SEEN a miracle, or even HEARD of one that science has no explanation for. The Nile turning to blood? There was a nearby volcanic eruption that spewed reddish stuff. The Red Sea parting for Moses? There was a mild earthquake around then. The plagues of whatnot? They come from the material expelled by the volcano, attracted to it. Jesus coming back to life? How do you know they didn't fake it? I don't trust the Bible. I don't trust my history books. Everything has the tendency to change, or misplace facts in accordance to their opinion. I don't completely deny the Bible, because there are some truths in it. Take the 'great flood.' Many other religions talk about a 'great flood' that happened sometime in the past. So there probably was a period in which the sea level rose. In everything there is a grain of truth. No matter the statement. Pigs have wings. Pigs exist and wings exist. Just not together.

I'm not the best at telling stories clearly, but I'll try.

This is not the site for publishing long, detailed accounts of miracles.

You'll have to search it. You might want to put the word evidence or something along those lines too. :)

You're right. It would be pointless to use the miricles from the bible as proof, because they were so long ago, and there is no proof. But there are modern miricles! Google this: Our Lady of Guadalupe science. The first link I found is great.

Stop making fun of Loony! She was a minor character, and yet she was better developed than many authors' MAIN characters. She was fantastic! And anyway, that was just an example.

As was a million dollars. Megan's example was much better- Jupiter, for instance. It's entirely possible that everything was faked... the photos... the "evidence"... the facts... everything. Who knows, maybe Christopher Columbus never existed, and George Washington wasn't our first president, and vegetables are unhealthy (these are all merely examples). You've never met Columbus- how do you know he existed? For that matter, how do you know that I exist? Maybe I'm just Lena or Trixy or someone fooling around, making up pseudonyms (no, I'm real, it's just an example).

My point being, it's narrow-minded and obscurantist to not believe in something just because you've never experienced it. No offense meant to anyone, and I'm not pointing fingers. Please don't take this the wrong way.
