Sidekick

Chatterbox: Crowd Sorcery

Sidekick

Sidekick

Sidekicks in great stories come in many shapes and sizes: a jolly traveling companion, a dog or cat, a wise wizard who gives helpful advice, a goldfish in a bowl, a walking stick that talks. A sidekick gives the main character someone to talk to, which allows for dialogue and interaction. With two minds in the story, there’s the possibility for more action, tension, and more unexpected things to happen!

I can imagine Quill, the moonlight girl I mentioned on the Hero and Heroines thread, having a friend, Colin, whom she meets because he goes into the forest at night to gather Silvercaps, special flowers that sprout up when the moon is shining but wither before dawn.

I might write: “During the daytime, when he was not off in the village selling his Silvercaps, Colin tended to sleep inside his favorite hollow tree trunk. So there were usually bits of bark in his unruly dust-colored hair, and sometimes a centipede would crawl out of his pocket or an ant would drop out of his collar. He scratched his head often and smelled like the forest after a rain.”

Now that we have a main character, Fable Thatcher, what sidekick will you imagine for her? A comical friend? A wise mentor? A romantic interest? Will your sidekick even be human? Let your imaginations run wild!

Name:  Emrald

Appearance: Green, shimmery dragon

Background: He has been hunted down by the king for his scales for many years.

Occupation: he is a dragon, so he has none

Attitude: sweet, loving, funny, bold

strengths/special abilities: offers moral support and he is a reading dragon

fears, weaknesses: when the king is near him, he stumbles on his words in his reading

What does he want most: to be done with the king!

1. Name: Animus, the Latin word for bravery. Her name was given to her back when she was brave.
2. Appearance: Animus can transform into an apple tree when she is scared or worried, in tree form she is very tall, with long branches covered in large, green leaves that can hide the main character from view, if she ever needs to hide. In tree form, Animus also has hundreds of red apples, which can be either medicine or poison, depending on who eats them. In human form, she still looks sort of like an apple tree, with long arms and legs, almost green blond hair, green eyes, reddish freckles (like apples), and very odd skin that looks a lot like tree bark.
3. Background: Once, a long time ago, Animus was a princess who was very, very brave. One day she went exploring without telling anyone. Everyone thought she had disappeared, and was very sad. When she got back her mother’s sadness turned to anger. Her mother had special powers that she used to take away all of Animus’s bravery. When her mother calmed down, she felt bad, and gave Animus the power to turn into an apple tree when she was scared.
4. Occupation or trade: Until she met the main character, she spent all of her time scampering around in terror and turning into an apple tree. Now, she helps the main character, when she needs help.
5: Attitude toward main character: Respectful, slightly afraid.
6: Strengths or special abilities:¬†She can turn into an apple tree when she‚Äôs scared, and grows magic apples than are poison to villains, and medicine to heroes.
7: Fears, weaknesses or secrets: She gets scared easily and turns into apple tree at the wrong times. For example she could turn into an apple tree at any random moment, like in the middle of a street in a big town or city.
8: How is the sidekick helpful: The main character can climb up to high branches to spy on the villain, she can hide in leaves, she can eat the magic apples if she is hurt and they will help her feel better.
9: What does the sidekick want most: To be brave again.
10: Crowd sorcery sentences: Animus was the saddest sight Fable Thatcher had ever seen. The poor girl always was screaming and running around, crying out in terror every few seconds. Behind her back people would tell her terrible story: how her own mother had cursed her to forever be afraid, just because she had gone exploring one day and forgotten to tell her parents where she was going. People would throw food and pebbles at her, and call her names. Fable Thatcher had always felt bad for Animus, but she never let it show, if she did, then she too would become the target of cruel names and thrown food. But that was before…

7. Fears, weaknesses, or secrets

During an especially traumatic and violent flash, Denali found out that his mother didn't die of natural reasons. How? He's not sure, and it haunts his every step...

8. How is the sidekick helpful?

9. What does the sidekick want most?

To find out what really happened to his mother, and to help Fable with her writing 'curse'

10. Your Crowd Sorcery Sentence(s)

This flash was even more confusing than most.  A dimly lit room, a sudden rustling, a woman's scream, and a loud thud.  Denali shook his head and quickly resumed his work, lest his father look over. His hands shook slightly, because for some strange reason, he knew the woman was his mother.

Sorry to submit another sidekick, but I realized that I'd barely put anything about Fable in there. Oops!

Name: Rax

Appearance: Rax usually wears a small black cloak trimmed in red. He always has his trusty sword, redheart, strapped to his back. Redheart is long and thin, has several rubies incrusted in it, and has a piece of a dragon bone inside that allows Rax to talk freely to dragons.

Background: Rax grew up in the same town as Fable. Sometimes when they were young, they would sneak out to play together. As Rax got older, he started training as a swordsman, and then he was given his blade, Redheart, as a reward from one of the dragons he'd helped.

Occupation or trade: Rax is only thirteen, but he travels out into the woods to find hurt dragons, unhealthy eggs, etc, to nurse them back to health. Sometimes, he will secretly ask Fable for help.

Attitude towards main character: Rax considers Fable one of his best friends and will do anything for her.

Powers or abilities: Rax is a good swordsman and his longsword, Redheart, allows him to communicate with dragons.

Fears, weaknesses, or secrets: Rax somewhat fears fire, witch is a problem because he takes care of dragons. Also, Fable has shown him her power before, so he has kept that a secret for a long time.

How is the sidekick helpful? Rax is a good swordfighter and will not back down. He is also on good terms with a lot of dragons, so it doesn't hurt to have one of those gigantic fire breathers on your side.

What does the sidekick want most? To help Fable.

"Oh, crud, crud, crud!" Rax growled to himself as he climbed up the side of Fable's house. Luckily, Rax had been walking by her house on his way back home that night when he'd looked up and had seen two burglars climbing up her roof towards her bedroom. He had panicked and was scrambling up the side of the chimney before he had time to stop and think . He was just in time, the moment he stepped on the roof, they were in the process of trying to open the window.

"Hey losers!" he called. "You, hoo!" The men whipped around.

"Get him!" one of them shouted.

"Double crud!" Rax yelped as they both pulled swords out of their belts and charged him. He quickly yanked Redheart out of it's sheath and deflected the first strike, then another. One of the hooded men tried to stab Rax but he blocked it, and then disarmed his assailant. The men backed up.

"Ha!" Yelled Rax. He grabbed the rope that the thieves had used to climb up the house, threw it around the men, and tied it. Then before they could react, Rax gave them a kick and sent them spiraling off the roof. Just before the thieves hit the ground, Rax threw the rope around the stovepipe and secured it so the men wouldn't make contact with the hard ground. Just then he heard a rattling sound and Fable's window slid open. A very sleepy-looking Fable leaned out.

"Rax? What are you doing out here? What was all that racket?" Rax glanced sheepishly down out of Fable's vision at the two unconscious burglars.

"Uuumm, nothing. Just wanted to say hi, soooo... hi." Fable rolled her eyes. Couldn't you have just waited tommorow, or at least try the FRONT DOOR." Rax smiled.

"Sorry. Well, I'm gone." He jumped up and clambered down the chimney's outcropping stones. He looked up just in time to see Fable shaking her head in annoyance as she shut the window. Rax smiled, cut the burglars free with his sword, and drug them back to his house.

Name: Druidayan

Appearence: Silver eyes that sparkle in the moonlight, straight hair that is split by a line in the middle. On one side of the line, his hair is white, on the other side, platinum blonde. He wears clothes that usually express his emotions (red clothes if he is angry, blue if he is sad, yellow if he is happy). His old leather shoes that he got from his mother, however, never change.

Backround: Druidayan's father is a wicked sorcerer. His mother, a spritely peasant. At the very moment of his birth, Druidayan was spirited away by his father, who took him to a mountain cave to learn black magic. After seven years had passed, Druidayan's mother marched up the cave and took Druidayan back from his father. His mother then took him to school wher he learned proper manners. Druidayan's hair, which had turned black after years of being exposed to black magic, started to turn white blonde as he learnd good manners, but the blacknss never completely left him.

Occupation or Trade: Upon finishing school, Druidayan set out to seek his fortune. He never found a job though, and decided to help Fable Thatcher instead of working.

Attidtude: He has a bit of a split personality. Most of the time he is cheerful and friendly towards everyone. But at the worst possible times, the blackness that resides in his heart from his years of learning witchcraft rises up into his brain, and he has fits of rage, flinging curses everywhere. His emotions also change frequently.

Strengnths or Special Abilities: Druidayan discovered that by combining his skills in black magic with his learnings of good manners in school, he can conjure white magic, which banishes demons.

Fears, Weaknesses, or Secrets: Druidayan's greatest fear is that one day, his bursts of anger will get out of control and harm Fable and he will lose his only friend.

How the Sidekick is Helpful: Druidayan's enchantments of white magic are weak, but can protect him and Fable from minor attacks. He can also try to use his black magic to his advantage, but this is nearly impossible.

What the Sidekick Wants Most: What Druidayan wants most is to be rid of his father's evil blackness forever.

Crowd Sorcery Sentences: Druidayan glanced uncertainly at the dying tree and then at Fable. "Are you sure this will work?" he asked nervously. Fable nodded, but she didn't look sure herself.

Druidayan gulped. "Okay, here we go," he said. He started forming an orb of evil magic between his hands, just like he did many years ago in his father's mountain abode. He felt the familiar sensation of darkness rising into his throat. Don't panic, he told himself.

Just as the orb was about to burst and the darkness inside him as well, Druidayan thought furiously of every friendly compliment his mother ever taught him. Suddenley, the black orb faded to snow white. Energy burst from his hands and struck the tree. When the light died down, he could see the wilting tree was now blossoming with fruit.

White magic! He had done it!

hope you guys liked my entry Smile

1. His name is Thomas "Spring" Hutchins.

2. His appearance changes depending on if he uses his power, but he always has a blue jewel embedded in his head.

3. He grew out of a mutated tree seed created in one of Fable's tales. He stays away from people, preferring to live in the trees of the Respian Jungle, until looking for food one night as a lion, stumbles across Fable, who he becomes attached to after she realizes what he is.

4. He was briefly a home repair worker when he was a human, until he accidentally used his power on a barn he was fixing because he tripped and fell off the roof, accidentally faking his death and completely obliterating the barn. Now he has no occupation.

5. Spring feels indebted to Fable because she told him what he was and how he came to be, making him feel like less of a freak.

6. He can spontaneously combust. A few hours later, he re-forms in the same place he combusted, in a new form. He retains the memories of his past lives. He is fluent in all human languages, as well as the languages of whatever form he takes. He would like his power a lot more if he could  control what he reformed as. He also has a secret power involving touching all of his hands and feet to the jewel.

7. He is a total spaz, hence the nickname Spring. He is worried that his spazziness will cause him to fail Fable somehow. He is also afraid of getting physically close to her, because he is worried of combusting in his sleep and hurting her. He has not told her about his other power: If he touches all of his feet and hands to the jewel, he transforms into a spectral form, capable of manipulating water. However, this quickly drains his energy, and if he falls unconcious in that state, his jewel will shatter, and he will not retain his memories the next time he re-forms.

8. He is an amazing spy because if he is discovered, he can easily fake his death and come again in a different form. He is also a master at primitive survival and staff fighting (provided he has arms).

9.Spring most wants to be accepted as a life form and treated equally, as he is considered a demon spirit by many humans and animals.

10. Spring awoke hanging from a tree branch. He let go in  surprise, before realizing that he was fifty feet in the air, so letting go of his only handhold was probably a bad idea. He desperately tried to save himself, flailing his arms and legs wildly, and was amazed when his fall slowly came to a stop. It was only then that the thought came to him. He only knew of one creature that hiing upside down from branches in its sleep. But how had he become a bat? He had no memories of blowing anything up recently... And then he looked down and saw the smoking crater where that meadow he had layed down on as a wolf last night should have been. I really need to work on that sleep-combusting, he thought.

1. Name: Nib

2. Appearance: Since he is a quill, he appears as a dark blue feather with white on the edges and a gold tip.  He has an old, wise looking face on one side of the feather.

3. Background: Nib came to life when Fable was writing a list of items she would want if she ever got rich.  Ever since, she has kept him in a holster by her side as he has become both a useful tool and a confidant.

4. Occupation or trade: He's a quill.  Fable dips him in ink and writes with him.

5. Attitude toward main character: He is always there for advice or a quip or two.  Nib seems to me like he would be sort of an uncle figure: okay with teasing Fable, but also always there for advice.

6. Strengths or special abilities: He is what aids Fable in her power.  Without a quill, Fable's power is useless and Nib is her favorite quill.

7. Fears, weaknesses, or secrets: As a quill, he is extremely fragile.  He knows he will not last very long and will one day need to be replaced by Fable.  Nib is dreading that day.

8. How is the sidekick helpful?: Not only does Nib facilitate Fable's power, he gives her advice.

9. What does the sidekick want most?: To see Fable succeed.  He would blindly follow her anywhere since she is all he has ever known.

10. Your Crowd Sorcery Sentence(s): Whenever no one was around, Fable would take out Nib to chat with him.  She supposed she could chat with him even when people were around, but people would ask questions.  How could she explain how poor little Fable Thatcher was able to get her hands on an enchanted quill?

Nib understood why Fable could only rarely talk to him.  In fact, he understood almost everything about Fable.  Fable was all he had ever known, and he was perfectly fine with that.

1. Name --
Markree Donovan

2.
Appearance --
Markree was the most cherubic little baby you ever could have laid
eyes on. She was born with a large tuft of dirty-blond hair, which reddened as
she got older. By the time Markree was a teen, her hair was long enough to
reach down to her waist in perfect curls. Her skin has always been deathly
pale, so pale that it cannot come into direct contact with sunlight for more
than a few hours. She has a scattering of freckles all over her nose, which has
thin nostrils and a pointed tip. Her ears are slightly pointed, almost
elvenlike, however, Markree is only 2.7% elvish. She has deep green eyes, just like her mother.

3.
Background --
Markree was born to a witch named Greta Avery. Like many witches
and warlocks, Greta was misunderstood. She was a benevolent creature, and only
used her magic for practical purposes such as cleaning and fixing things.

Greta inherited her magic from her great-great grandfather, who was supposedly
a half-elf. Beyond that point, the family history is a bit muddied. As a
result, Greta is 5.4 percent elvish.

Markree
had an odd upbringing, with an elvish-human mother who showed her how to use
her slight magic to help her, and a cruel father who spent the year with
his other family, one without an inkling of magical powers.

So
Markree lived in a tiny two-story townhouse with six families living in it, one
family with ten children. Markree's mother managed to make a deal with the landlords
that she'd cook and clean the house for free if they let her and her daughter
sleep there. It was hardly an original idea; many other working class citizens
did similar things to put a roof over their heads. Markree loved her mother's
cooking, which almost always has potatoes in it, for there was a famine, and
while life failed to prosper in Markree's city, potatoes thrived.

Markree
attended a small, one-room school every Friday, and learned mathematics and
language. She never had the best concentration or grades, and would have liked
the whole day to be a recess. She had an inquisitive mind, and often imitated
the calls of sparrows or eagles.

When
Markree was nine, the school was working on making paper, one of the city's
main exports. As a reward for their day of hard work, (crushing and mushing
what the paper workers called wob) the children were allowed to take home a
piece of paper of their very own! For a city stricken with poverty, this was
very good indeed! Markree ran up to her sleeping mat to gaze at the snow-white
paper, marveling at it's delicate structure. Then she knew what she was to do
with it. She folded the paper in half, creasing it. She then did the same wth
the other side. When all was said and done, Markree had created a paper crane.

Markree
looked at the tiny white crane resting in the palm of her hand.
"Too
bad you'll never get to fly, little one," she whispered, and softly blew
on it. Then the most astounding thing happened, a miracle of sorts! The crane
lifted off her hand and flapped it's wings, flying into the breeze. Markree
watched it flutter away with a smile on her face.

Ever
since, Markree has sought out scraps of paper, each time using her elvin magic
to animate them. They all serve her, bringing her food and messages in an
exchange for llittle sparks of magic. Markree's mother was not happy about it.
"Carry on like this much longer and you'll end up with all your powers
drained!" She barked angrily. But Markree continued all the same, knowing
it could possibly save them from starvation, as the amounts of potatoes were
dwindling.

As a
teen, Markree took up bird keeping with the local falconer. It paid well, and
gave her respect in the community. She recieved her first title, 'Falconer's
Apprentice,' and soon after that recieved a hawkling of her very own. Markree
named him Markraw, Kraw for short. And although Greta had warned Markree not to
abuse her powers, Markree couldn't resist slipping a few sparks of magic into
his potato roast... the next day, the young Kraw could speak. "Hello, Mother,"
he said fervently. Markree, startled, knocked over a rectangular jug of slop
and fell to the floor. She was not pleased... nor was Greta, when she found
out. But so began the adventures of Kree and Kraw, as they were called.

Markree,
at age eighteen, heard of a death plague in a nearby village. Thousands were
dying every day. "I will use up every last spark of my magic to heal those
people," said Markree bravely. Greta warmly put a hand on her daughter's
cheek. "Dear and daring daughter, I have never told you what the word
'Markree' means in elvish, have I?" Her large green eyes fluttered.
"It means 'savior.' You are going to save those people, Markree, I know
it." She kissed Markree on the brow. "Go now." And without
another word, Markree set off.

It was a
long and arduous trek through the Fierfienien Forest, and Kraw stayed extraordinarily
silent for a talkative, loudmouth, insulting creature like himself. When
Markree got to the village, she was shocked. Sick children ran around,
helpless. Markree managed to catch the hand of a eight-year-old, who was
choking and turning blue. She ran her hand over the child's throat, and all of
the sudden his face turned pink once more. His phlegm was gone. Markree
sniffed, and a vile smell rose from a nearby puddle of water. She pulled on the
boy's arm, and pointed at the water.
"What's wrong with it?" she asked.
"It's poison water." Markree nodded. He did not care to elaborate any further, so Markree spoke.

"Stay
here. Don't let anyone approach you, not even your mother, for you are cured.
Don't drink or eat." Markree turned and ran towards a mother who was
screaming bloody murder as her baby turned purple.

By the
end of the day, there was a long line of sick people coughing and choking,
waiting for her magic. It was almost 11:00 PM, and Markree was tired and
wondered what she had gotten into. That was when a man, one she had already
healed, came charging out of his hut brandishing a club. "SHE'S A
WITCH!"  he screamed. Markree held up a hand, and calmly walked
towards the man.
"What I am is elvish. 2.7 percent elvish. And if you kill me, you kill
your village. KRAW!" Kraw cawed, responding to her, swooped down and
alighted upon his bald head, not injuring the man but letting his wings obscure
his sight. Satisfied, Markree turned back to the line. "Next!"

Markree,
after eventually getting a bit of rest, learned that nine children, fourteen
adults, and ten elders had died before she had gotten there. She resolved to
heal the rest of the villagers before nightfall, if her dwindling magic held
up. She was true to her word, and with Kraw snoozing in a tree above her, she
began to heal the last.

"You're
brave," said Markree absentmindedly. "Being last and all."
"Thank you. I could tell you were brave as soon as I looked at you,"
said the girl shyly. "Thanks."
"Are you really part elf?" asked the girl suddenly.
"Yes, I am. You're healed now, by the way."
"Oh, thank you!" the girl blushed.

"So,
what's your name, dear?" asked Markree, smiling at the younger girl.
"F-Fable. Fable Thatcher."
"That's so pretty! Like a story!"

Fable
winced. "Nah. Like a stable. For horses..."

This was
possibly the shyest and awkward girl Markree had ever met. They talked late
into the night, and Markree ended up making a clinic in the village, sending
messages to Greta by crane. As there was no falconer in that poor village,
(it was even poorer than Kree's hometown) Markree also became the local
falconer. She was surprised her magic hadn't ran dry, and figured it grew while
she was sleeping, like an elf! As her mother didn't have that talent, Markree
was pleased. Fable and Markree continued their friendship, and became like
sisters. Fable, however never shared her powers with Markree, although Markree
could guess she was hiding something. And at Fable's time of need, when a
great, nefarious villain caused havoc and destruction, Markree was there for
Fable.

 4.
Occupation or trade --

Origamist,
Falconer, and Healer.

5.
Attitude toward main character --

Markree plays the part of Fable's big sister. Fable learns from Markree and Markree enjoys Fable's company. Markree feels that Fable is far too secretive, and often tries to break into her thick shell.

6.
Strengths or special abilities --

Markree is descended from elves and can create magic, which regenerates overnight. Markree can use her magic and a bit of paper to create paper cranes that fly around doing her bidding, delivering messages or bits of food in exchange for a slight spark of magic. As a falconer, she controls Kraw, a hawk whom she accidentally bewitched to speak by putting some magic in his pig roast. She currently runs a free medical clinic in a poverty-stricken town; although she does not charge anybody, many pay her so she can buy food and water. Markree is very fast on foot, and brave.

7. Fears,
weaknesses, or secrets --

Markree is not very good at hand to hand fighting. Although she has developed leg muscles and moves with speed and agility, her arm muscles arm practically nonexistent, making her inable to lift heavy objects. She cannot fight well with swords, daggers, bow and arrows, nets... she much rather prefers to fight with her magic, by conjuring up a fireball or something like that. She pretends like she has no father, as he deserted Greta and Markree to marry a human woman, and now has six young boys and two twin girls. Also, Markree doesn't handle blackmail well. If someone threatened Fable or Greta, she'd instantly do wht they wanted her to do.

8. How is
the sidekick helpful? --

Markree is helpful because she can heal any of Fable's wounds in just a few seconds. Her cranes can quickly deliver messages, normally without being seen or intercepted. Kraw is able to fight at Markree's command, and is willing to die for his "Mother," whom he worships and complains to. Markree also cheers Fable right up.

9. What
does the sidekick want most? --

What Kree wants most is to have her magic stay intact for her whole life, instead of slowly draining out of her.

10. Your
Crowd Sorcery Sentence(s) --

--  Tiny Markree walked into school for the first time, red-blond braid swinging side to side as she looked around. Her brilliant green optics shone in the dim light of the candle. Markree could hardly see the chalkboard from five feet away, let alone the back of the room where she, late, was sentenced to sit.

-- Markree crushed the wob, the white, sticky pound of soon-to-be-flattened paper squishing under her hand and rising through her fingers. Markree hoped she would never have to work in the factory like most adults did- she had neither the arm muscles or the patience to work there!

-- Markree looked at the tiny white crane resting in the palm of her hand. "Too bad you'll never get to fly, little one," she whispered, and softly blew on it. Then the most astounding thing happened, a miracle of sorts! The crane lifted off her hand and flapped it's wings, flying into the breeze. Markree watched it flutter away with a smile on her face.

-- "I will use up every last spark of my magic to heal those people," said Markree bravely. Greta warmly put a hand on her daughter's cheek. "Dear and daring daughter, I have never told you what the word 'Markree' means in elvish, have I?" Her large green eyes fluttered. "It means 'savior.' You are going to save those people, Markree, I know it." She kissed Markree on the brow. "Go now." And without another word, Markree set off.

-- It was a long and arduous trek through the Fierfienien Forest, and Kraw stayed extraordinarily silent for a talkative, loudmouth, insulting creature like himself. When Markree got to the village, she was shocked. Sick children ran around, helpless. Markree managed to catch the hand of a eight-year-old, who was choking and turning blue. She ran her hand over the child's throat, and all of the sudden his face turned pink once more. His phlegm was gone. Markree sniffed, and a vile smell rose from a nearby puddle of water. She pulled on the boy's arm, and pointed at the water.
"What's wrong with it?" she asked.
"It's poison water." Markree nodded. He did not care to elaborate any further, so Markree spoke.

"Stay here. Don't let anyone approach you, not even your mother, for you are cured. Don't drink or eat." Markree turned and ran towards a mother who was screaming bloody murder as her baby turned purple.

 --
By the end of the day, there was a long line of sick people coughing and
choking, waiting for her magic.

"What
I am is elvish. 2.7 percent elvish. And if you kill me, you kill your village.
KRAW!" Kraw cawed, responding to her, swooped down and alighted upon his
bald head, not injuring the man but letting his wings obscure his sight.
Satisfied, Markree turned back to the line. "Next!"

-- Markree, after eventually getting a bit of rest, learned that nine children, fourteen adults, and ten elders had died before she had gotten there. She resolved to heal the rest of the villagers before nightfall, if her dwindling magic held up. She was true to her word, and with Kraw snoozing in a tree above her, she began to heal the last.

"You're brave," said Markree absentmindedly. "Being last and all."
"Thank you. I could tell you were brave as soon as I looked at you," said the girl shyly. "Thanks."
"Are you really part elf?" asked the girl suddenly.
"Yes, I am. You're healed now, by the way."
"Oh, thank you!" the girl blushed.

"So, what's your name, dear?" asked Markree, smiling at the younger girl.
"F-Fable. Fable Thatcher."
"That's so pretty! Like a story!"

Fable winced. "Nah. Like a stable. For horses..."

This was possibly the shyest and awkward girl Markree had ever met.

-- "Ahhh," said Markree, soothed as the flickering fire warmed up her icy-cold hands. Fable giggled from behind her, and Markree looked up at the sparkling orbs above.
"They're beautiful, aren't they?" she whispered.

Dear Admin,

Just a quick question. If you decide to put something up for voting, and it has obvious spelling errors in it, do you take the errors out?

Admin: Not at this stage! At this stage, we're more interested in the quality of writing than in the correctness of grammar and spelling.

PLEASE READ THIS! IMPORTANT NOTICE!

MANY OF YOU HAVE SAID THAT FABLE HAS PARENTS. IN FABLE'S DESCRIPTION, SHE DOES NOT KNOW WHO HER PARENTS ARE.  HER PARENTS CAN BE DEAD OR OTHERWORDLY BEINGS (like mine) BUT SHE DOES NOT KNOW HER PARENTS. IT SAYS SO IN FABLE'S DESCRIPTION.

Sorry for the bold caps lock, admin!

1. Owlet Feather

2. She has REALLY pale whitish blond hair, grass green eyes, and almost white skin. She wears a short red skirt, maroon leggings, and a brown shirt. she's short for her age, which is around eleven. Did I mention she has snowy owl wings?

3. Owlet was part of an ancient race, the Animalia. They are born with animal traits, hers being a snowy owl. She is superintelligent because she was trained at a library full of rare books. She eventually left the Animalia tribe to find a certain girl who was rumored to be extremely powerful.

4. Herbalist, sorcerer.

5. Curiosity.

6. She can fly and is superintelligent, she also has magic.

7. Dogs, confined spaces, hunters. (These being animal instincts.)

8. She saves Fable from some scrapes.

9. ADVENTURE!!

10. Owlet cruised over the trees gently, watching the strange girl writing fervently. Shadows coursed through the branches as she alighted on a thick twig. She half suspended herself as she peered over Fable's shoulder.

Writing better than any she had seen at the library resounded through the pages, and owlet gasped. A girl was writing this? She peered over Fable's shoulder again. Abruptly, the tree below her vanished. "What in?.." she gasped, too late.

She crashed onto Fable's head, muddied her clothes, and in general ruined any neatness either of them had previously had. Owlet was generally to shocked to do anything but lie on her back, leaving Fable to do the talking. "My stars! Who're you?!"

My writing got pretty detailed here..... oh well!

My sidekick entry, Rupert McGrungee, had a few spelling and grammar errors. Here it is without the errors:

Name: Rupert McGrungee

Physical Appearance: He is an albino dwarf. He has red eyes that look
like sparkling rubies you might find deep in a mountain, and a white
braided beard. He always wears spritely, colorful clothing and silver
spectacles that rest on his nose.

Background: Rupert is a cheery dwarf, but has a dark past. As a child, he
was made fun of for looking different than everyone else. One day,
someone said to him, "Go back to where you belong, filthy albino." A
dwarven legend stated that albinos were born out of the highest peak,
Druninbaar. So that's where Rupert headed. While he was gone, a fire
started in the tunnel his family worked in. When he saw the smoke rising
out of his home mountain, Mergrin, he realized he was the only one who
could save them. But by the time he got there, it was too late. Ever
since that day, Rupert has tried to cover up his grief with other
things, like sorcery and literature.

Occupation or Trade: After losing his family, Rupert decided to devote
his life to learning and teaching. He is very learned in magical arts,
and wanders from village to village sharing his learnings. When he
reached Fable's village and realized she needed assistance with her
power, he was happy to help.

Attitude towards Main Character: Most of the time, he is very cheery,
helpful and kind. But this good attitude is sometimes just to cover his
sorrow. Occasionally, he gets frustrated with Fable (maybe because of
all the stressful things he's been through).

Strenghts or Special Abilities: While most dwarves are not the sharpest
gem in the mine, Rupert is extremely intelligent. He is learned in art,
literature, sorcery, mathematics, and sewing!

Fears, Weaknesses or Secrets: Rupert's greatest secret is his dark past,
which he has never shared with anyone. He is also afraid of diamonds,
because they remind him of his home and what happened there.

How the Sidekick Helpful: Rupert is a great teacher and provides
moral support. He is the only person who can help Fable learn to control
her power, and maybe even teach her a few new spells in the process! He
can also apply his knowledge and spells to help solve conundrums.

What the Sidekick Wants Most: What Rupert wants most is a new family.

Crowd Sorcery Sentences: The short man entered Fable's cottage and set a
stack of books, papers, and strange objects on the floor. "Who are you,
exactly?" she asked. The man turned around, and Fable identified him as
a dwarf. An unusual looking dwarf, at that.

"My name is Rupert," the dwarf replied cheerily. "And I'm here to assist
you." Rupert then gave Fable a big grin, but something about the smile
didn't seem right.

It almost looked- sad?

I hoped you enjoyed this entry! Rupert gives you all a big grinLaughing
