Pheasantwithbooks created a drawing contest, which made me nostalgic for this photography contest (which I believe was also created by pheasantwithbooks, i could be wrong though)
anyways, if you're new here, these are the rules-
~the judge gives out a theme each round and sets a deadline for the pictures to be in by
~the participants follow the theme and submit their pictures
~the judge ranks the pictures, sometimes giving them feedback
~whoever comes in 1st gets to be the next judge!
i'll be the first judge, and i'll start with a very generic theme, nature! pictures will be due on February 28th.

Judging!
In first place: AutumnArtist! This is a really nice photo, I love the gradient of colors in the sky and the way the dead branches on the tree add contrast. And is that a heron? Whatever it is, I congratulate you on getting a good bird picture! I've never been able to do that very well, birds always fly away or are too high up in a tree when I try to take pictures of them.
In second place: TheaterGirl! Wow, where is that? I love elephants, they're so cool! And I love the contrast of the dark leaves against the lighter rest of the photo. And the dusty clouds in the background are great, because there isn't any clutter. But the photo is really blurry and not great quality, which I find sad because the composition of the photo is really good. The elephant also kind of blends into the background a little, which you probably couldn't change, but I'd play around with photo editing to see if you can bring the contrast up. It was a really tough choice between you and AutumnArtist though!
In third place: Barnswallow! AWW WHAT A CUTE FLUFFY KITTY! I love its little fluffy paws and its cute little face and AAAAH I JUST WANNA HUG IT! *recovers from fangirling* Things I like: the lighting is great, it's not too cluttered, and the wittle fwoofy kitty is in such a cute pose! I can't even get my own cat to stay in a good pose for a photo. However, it's not a particularly interesting photo, so that's why it's in third place.
In fourth, Sunshine Wings! I like the shapes in this photo: the line of shadow, the spiky blades of grass, and the squiggly snake shape. It makes the photo look pretty cool. But there isn't a lot of contrast, and the photo isn't too interesting.
In fifth: Moonlight! I love the colors in this photo. The blue light in the aquarium tank makes the lobster look really cool. However, it's blurry, and there's a lot of clutter. I would have really liked this photo if the person's arm (I'm assuming that's what it is?) wasn't blocking part of the subject. Clutter can sometimes ruin a photo. But hey, now you know! Every photo is a learning experience.

Wow... I got second place! I think that's my best :). Thanks! I took the photo at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Nice tips!
