Cats of LavaClan!...

Cats of LavaClan! Gather under highstone to hear what I have to tell you! (THIS IS NOT AN EVIL CLAN!!!!!) Greetings, clan mates. My name is Beachstar. I am leader of LavaClan. We live on an island. We live in Lava tunnels, hence the name. Our medicine cats den is its own tunnel. We can run very fast in order to catch mongoose (i was in Hawaii lately so this is all kinda based of that), we can swim to get fish, we climb trees, and we can jump very high to catch birds. Our prey is plenty here, and there's never much snow, so we don't freeze in winter! We need a deputy, medicine cat, warriors, apprentices, queens, and elders! PLEASE JOIN!!!

"Ok, Tanpaw and Lilypaw, why don't you tell us what you know already so that we can teach you what you don't know?" Summerberry mewed. "Yes. We want to assess you after we teach you, so that we can make sure that you are ready. But don't worry about the test. We won't make you take it until you are positive you can memorize almost everything," Swanflight explained.

I'm listing what I know. If I know more about an herb than what it cures, such as its appearance, I'll put that in, too. And this is just what I've memorized. There's a bit more info in Secrets of the Clans, which I own, and have access to, should I ever need it. And I don't just mean what Erin Hunter wrote; I've made many notes. For example, something tends to grow near pine trees, but I don't rememer what.

So, each category is what I would be trying to stop. (Note: The list of poisons is so that I don't eat them. I would never 'stop' someone's 'life.'

Toothaches: Alder bark (eaten)

Bellyaches: Chervil root, watermint (eaten; I don't rememer which part), juniper berries (eaten; purple; grows on low bush)

Coughing: Thyme leaves (eaten), juniper berries (eaten), catmint (if it's serious, like greencough or blackcough; eaten; I don't remember which part; hard to find in the wild; grows mainly in Twoleg gardens; smells wonderful), chickweed (if it's serious, like greencough or blackcough; eaten; I don't remember which part), tansy—leaves? (although it isn't particularly good for queens; eaten)

Shortness of breath: Coltsfoot (eaten; I don't remember which part), juniper berries (eaten)

Infection: Marigold leaf and/or petal poultice (put on wound; golden yellow or orange flowers) can prevent or cure it; horsetail—leaf? (usually a poultice, but if there isn't enough time to make 1, it can be put on the wound in its original form; grows in wet, marshy areas), honey (viscous golden liquid found in beehives; rather hard to collect without being stung; dabbed on wound with moss, which can often be found in wet areas), and burdock root poultice (put on wound; works especially well on rat bites), wild garlic patch (pale green or whitish stem splits into darker 'branches;' rolled in) cure it.

Bleeding: Cobwebs (found all over the place; put on wound—without the spider! If other medicines are on wound, this must go over them. I doubt I need to describe its appearance.) Yarrow can also be used

Wounds: Goldenrod poultice (I'm not sure which part is ued in the poultice), comfrey root poultice (put on the wound; grows in meadows), tormentil root (I don't know much aout it, but it doesn't grow around here anyway—only in cold mountains. I suppose it's probably put on the wound, though...), and tansy (I don't know any more about its use here than tormentil root) soothe them; cobwebs & rushes bind them

Weakness: Ragwort stem fragments (eaten), chamomile (eaten; I don't know which part), lamb's ears (I think the leaves? Which are fuzzy, and slightly resemle lamb's ears. But it doesn't grow around here. And it's eaten...)

Life: Deathberries (red berries growing on trees; eaten), nightshade berries (red and—I think—yellow berries growing on trees), foxglove seeds (seeds that look a bit like poppy seeds which grow on plants with dark red, bell-shaped flowers)

Poison: Yarrow leaf poultice (eaten if the poison has been eaten, put on a wound if the poison is in a wound)

Pain: Poppy seeds (tiny black seeds from a plant with red flowers; eaten; should not be given to queens), willow bark (eaten; gray, and grows in wet places)

Anxiety: Thyme leaves (eaten), ivy leaves (eaten)

Being awake: Poppy seeds (eaten)

Broken bones: Comfrey root poultice (put on the spot with the broken bone, I think), cobwebs & rushes (to bind it)

Alertness: Poppy seeds (eaten)

Moving: Poppy seeds

Beestings: Mallow (I don't know which part or how it's taken)

Scratches: Dock leaves (put on scratch; I don't know whether or not it's a poultice)

Milk not flowing fast enough: Borage leaves (eaten)

Sore pads: Dock leaves (put on pad; I don't know whether or not it's a
poultice)

Fever: Lavender (eaten; I don't know which part), borage leaves (eaten)

I don't know what this stops, but it's given to queens giving birth: Raspberry leaves (eaten)

I can't think of any more maladies at the moment, but if you can, please tell me. I'll say which herbs I'd give. Because I may well know what to do for it, altough I also may well not.

(Don't worry, I haven't read Lilypaw's post yet, so I don't know what she said. This is just what I can remember. I too have access to Secrets of the Clans, very easy access (I'm lying on my bed, the book is on my bedside table.) and I have written notes that I found on a website, but I'm not looking at that either. I swear on StarClan's name.)

Cobweb: Bleeding

Wild Garlic: Infection

Yarrow: Infection

Honey: Sore throat

Poppy Seeds: Falling asleep, (not the dead kind!) easing pain

Catmint: Greencough. Whitecough, Blackcough

Sorry but thats all that I can remember off the top of my head. I'm not a good medicine cat apprentice. *looks at ground with shame*

Yes you are! You are a good medicine cat apprentice, truly! We haven't learned much yet; I'm sure Summerberry doesn't expect you to remember very much yet. I only remember what I do because I've been here for about a year, and I've participated in the Warriors RPs for most of that time, and I've always been at least one medicine cat or medicine cat apprentice, and I've had the guidebook for at least half of that time, and throughout it I've been trying to memorize everything I could. And I've taken so many notes in it that I end up remembering even more. And I've seen some of the herbs myself, and I included things ilke appearance in the list when I could, so that made it look much longer than it really was. Really, you are a good medicine  cat apprentice!

But I just remembered something I didn't include in my notes. I'll put it in now, if I may.

Stinging nettle leaves are put on a wound to prevent infection, and the spiny green seeds are eaten by a cat who's swallowed poison. Unless I mixed them up...

"Tanpaw! Cheer up! You are a GREAT medicine cat so far! And you'll learn more, so you can be more confident," Swanflight mewed. "Now," Summerberry said. "I want you to go out and gather these herbs." She held out a spiny dried oak leaf with a crisp brown color, a soft green leaf of borage with a bundle of pink and blue flowers, and a small minty green skinny leaf that was yarrow. "I'll come along," Swanflight told the apprentices. "In case you have any questions. Come on!" She raced out of the den with the apprentices at her heels and they raced out of the tunnels and up the grassy slope, until they came to a wooded area with flowers and brush.

Oh! I knew I was forgetting something! Dried oak leaves cure infection...

I think I see some borage over there—and an oak tree, and some yarrow. Are the fallen oak leaves acceptable for use? They'd obviously have to be washed before use, since their purpose is to cure infection, but can they be used? Or must we climb the tree to reach the ones on branches? *picks some yarrow and borage while waiting for the answer to her query about oak*
