Cats of LavaClan!...

Cats of LavaClan! Gather under highstone to hear what I have to tell you! (THIS IS NOT AN EVIL CLAN!!!!!) Greetings, clan mates. My name is Beachstar. I am leader of LavaClan. We live on an island. We live in Lava tunnels, hence the name. Our medicine cats den is its own tunnel. We can run very fast in order to catch mongoose (i was in Hawaii lately so this is all kinda based of that), we can swim to get fish, we climb trees, and we can jump very high to catch birds. Our prey is plenty here, and there's never much snow, so we don't freeze in winter! We need a deputy, medicine cat, warriors, apprentices, queens, and elders! PLEASE JOIN!!!

"Yes, Tanpaw, poppy seeds would be good," Summerberry said dryly, her voice filled with shock. Swanflight whipped around and saw that Sugarkit was gone. "Sugarkit!" she cried out. "Beachstar, you need to send a patrol to look for her! I think I know where she is going!"

"Good, Windpelt, eat this poppy seed and go and take a rest." She turned to Beachstar. "I want to go and find my sister."

Sugarkit ran through the forest and to the thunderpath. There she saw her mother, lying next to the thunderpath, with two-leg scent all over her. She guessed that the two-leg that killed her picked her up and put her there. "Why did this have to happen?" she whispered as she dug her muzzle into her fur. Sugarkit heard the roar of a monster and stood next to the thunderpath, sure of what she was about to do. Just then, before she was going to race across, a patrol of cats burst out.

"Sugarkit, what are you doing?" Tanpaw yowled as she burst out of the bushes. "I want to die, so I may be with Sugarflight," she replied dryly. "Why would you want to do that? You have your whole life ahead of you, and you were about to waste it?" "Yes, anything to be with her."

What's happening? I don't understand. Where's Sugarkit? Was she taken by a mongoose? Oh, please let her be safe!... And why isn't Sugarflight back yet? She should have been here moons ago! Something is wrong' I can tell—but what is it?!

((Remember, only a few cats have been told about Sugarflight's death, so she wouldn't know yet)).

Windpelt awoke from his nap and walked towards Lilypaw. "Lilypaw, Sugarflight died on the Thunderpath, and Sugarkit is trying to find her."

WHAT? She—dead?! No! No! That can't be!!! *wails* How can this be?! *an image appears in her mind of Sugarflight lying on the ground, lifeless, and with the image comes a memory of other cats, in the same position, who look very similar to Lilykit...* *tries to push this memory away, but is overcome by grief, and cannot* Not again! Not again! not here, n-not now! N-not... so... SOON! I don't want to know any more death!! I've seen too much already for such a short life! I'm only about 8 or 9 moons old! I can't bear this anymore! Oh, why did she have to leave us?! Why? I know she missed her mate—did she ever even find him?—and n-no one knows b-better than I do w-what it's like to lose someone you r-really c-care about, but she could have simply asked B-Beachstar to send out a patrol to search for him at a time when we weren't being attacked, and then gone with that patrol, or at the very least learned some of the herbs that may have helped her before going off and leaving on her own! *wails some more* *eats thyme for shock* *curls up into a heap and just sits for a while* *gets up*

I... I have to go and look for Sugarkit! It's urgent! I know how she feels! I understand what it's like to have those close to you die, and I think I might be able to help her through this somehow. Either way, th-there's n-no harm in trying, except for the g-grief it may cause me... But Idon't matter. I'm not the on whose m-mother just died. That was in th-the p-past, and I should have g-gotten over it by n-now. It's m-my own fault if I hadn't. B-but I know how desperate it feels—I can explain later, not now—and I'm rather afraid of what she might do. I have to help her. Now. Goodbye. *departs*

*hears Sugarkit and Tankit* *is horrified* Sugarkit, no. You can't. Please. Believe me, I know how you feel. M-my mother died, too, a long time ago, and my entire family, as well—and all at the same time! It feels horrible, knowing that you'll never see them again—well, actually, you will see Sugarflight. You're lucky enough that she joined a Clan before she died, so the 2 of you will meet in StarClan. My family were loners, and I don't have the slightest idea where they could possibly be. When I die and go to StarClan, I'm afraid I'll still feel the same way I do now, because they could be in just about any afterlife imaginable, or their souls could be left to wander for all of eternity, or they could just disappear after death! That's my worst nightmare, really, that I'll die, and look all over the spiritual world for them, and never find them! And I understand that you're willing to go to any lengths to be with Sugarflight. She was your mother! But think of everyone you're leaving behind on Earth! Think of your siblings! Think of your grandfather! Think of your Clanmates! Think of me. I can't bear to watch anyone else die right now, or to even know of anyone's death. I've endured enough pain for much longer lifetime than the few moons I have lived so far, and it's a struggle to stay alive, to not just decide to let go of everything and allow yourself to die. But it's worth it! You have no idea now, but one day you'll see that it truly is, if only you'll listen to me! But I can't stand to let you die right after Sugarflight did! I'm afraid I won't be able to continue the struggle anymore myself. You're just kit—an old kit, I'll grant you, but what difference does it really make?—and you plan to end your own life! Don't you realize what that means?! You'll get to see your mother, of course. But you'll stay an apprentice-aged kit forever! Sugarflight can never be able to watch you change, see you grow into the warrior you're destined to be. Some day, we will need you, and you won't be able to help us because you'll be sitting up their with your mother, too young to do what is necessary and too old not to care. Think of that!

Please, Sugarkit. You're my Clanmate, and as a medicine cat it is my responsibility to keep you safe. I can't just sit and let you die, can I? If you won't see sense and live the rest of your life, for our sakes if you can't think of your own, I'm afraid I'll have to stop you. You have no idea how wonderful life can be. I know you probably don't believe me now, but can't you at least give life another chance? We need you. I need you. Don't leave us now! It just isn't worth it! I won'r let you die, no matter what! I can't lose more Clanmates in 1 day! Please!

"All right, Lilypaw. I'll go with you. You're right." Tanpaw and Lilypaw led her through the forest, into the camp. Windpelt rushed forward and started to lick her head frantically. "I was so worried about you! Never do that to me again!! I'm an old cat, I can't stand the pressure!!" He led her towards the nursery, where Rainkit ran outside to check that his sister was okay. "I've been pacing in the nursery so much I thought I was going to make a hole in there! From now on, I'm sticking to you like glue. You'll never leave my sight!" Rainkit meowed. "Same here. From no on, we do everything together, 'cause we only have each other now." Tanpaw replied. Their tails intertwined together and they went to their dens. That night, in Tanpaw's dream, she met Spongetail and Stonewalker in StarClan. "Mother!! Father!!! I'm so glad to see you!!" "We're glad to see you too!! This is Stonewalker, the cat that I fell in love with." "Greetings, but how did you come to StarClan?" "Your mother invited me to Clan life at the Two-leg-place. It wasn't official, but StarClan let me stay here." "That's very nice, but I have to go. I have training tomorrow."

"When will Rainkit and I become apprentices, Beachstar??????" Sugarkit wailed. Tanpaw heard frantic coughing in the elders den. "Windpelt!!! Oh no oh no this is very very very bad!!! Summerwind, Windpelt had Blackcough, I think!!!!!!! We need catmint!!! I'm going to go and get some!!" "We'll come with you. Remember, we're in this together." The threesome ran out of the clearing. They came back at sunrise. "THERE'S NO MORE CATMINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" They yowled. "What should we do with Windpelt?? We can't let him die!! We just can't!! He doesn't deserve it. I won't let you!!"

NO!!!!! *wails* Oh StarClan, no!! Please keep
him alive! Keep him safe! Oh, why must life be so horribly cruel?!!

This
is very, very bad. Blackcough is horrible. B-blackcough is fatal! It
k-killed my entire family, and it almost killed me!

But
panicking won't do us any good. We have to think logically, and do what
we must to help him. Other herbs can help besides catmint, and we are
very lucky in that we have multiple medicine cats here. 3 of us can stay
and attend to him while 1 of us goes to another Clan and asks for
catmint. Actually, no. I have a better solution. I know a medicine cat
who doesn't live far from here. I'll yell her name. When she comes (and
she will; she's the 1 who saved me from dying of blackcough when I was a
kit, and we're very close), I'll ask her to bring catnip from WindClan
(her Clan) territory. When she's on her way, I'll give Windpelt other
herbs. This is urgent, and we've no time to waste.

SPECKLEDFUR!!!!!!!!

*goes
to the medicine cat den* *looks around* Sorry if I render some things a
bit disorganized. I don't have time to be picky about such things.
*grabs chickweed, which is like catmint but doesn't work as well, poppy
seeds to help him rest, tansy and thyme leaves for his cough, juniper
berries and coltsfoot to help him breathe more easily, honey for his
throat, if it's sore, and ragweed leaves for strength* I'm also sorry if
I left out anything vital. This is all I can think of.

*is on
the way over to him when—

Speckledfur: *comes* Lilykit! *purrs* Or are you Lilypaw now? Presumably so, due to the herbs you're carrying, unless you're
just helping out the medicine cat beforehand, but, well, hello! It's so nice to see you again! You've found a Clan, I see.
Excellent! I hope you're doing well? You'll have to tell me all about what's happened since I last saw you, of course, as will I; being in different Clans we can't meet often, and—

Lilypaw *in a hurried tone*: Sorry for interrupting; I really do wish we could talk, but I don't have the time! Yes, I am Lilypaw, medicine cat's apprentice, or 1 of them—you know what it's like, when someone from another Clan comes—but anyway, I'm afraid I'm not doing well. That is, I'm fine, but in a state of emotional distress because someone just died and now one of our elders has blackcough!

Speckledfur: Oh. Oh. That's very bad. I'm so sorry! But why are you calling me?

Lilypaw: We lack catmint.

Speckledfur: Oh! Well, I suppose I should go and fetch some, shouldn't I?

Lilypaw: Yes, exactly.

Speckledfur: *scampers off*

Lilykit: *takes her herbs to Windpelt* Here! You have blackcough, and you need  to eat these now! Please! It's urgent! But not the poppy seeds, not yet. They're to give you rest, and you need to eat everything else first, including the catnip that isn't yet here. Just wait. And only eat the honey if your throat is sore.

*to Clan: And by now, I really do need to tell you my history, but Speckledfur will arrive at any minute, and—

Speckledfur: *arrives carrying as much catnip as she possibly can*

Lilykit: Oh, thank you! Thank you!

*puts some of the catmint in the medicine cat den to use later and gives the rest to Windpelt*

And you'd better stay in the medicine cat den for now. If another elder joins, you could make them sick if you stay there!

"I thank you for this Lilypaw, but it isn't very ness-" He went into another bout of coughing uncontrollably. Rainkit poked his head in, "Can we see him?" he asked worriedly. "Yeah, we're worried about him!" Sugarkit said. "Oh, well I'm a medicine cat apprentice so I don't need to ask! Windpelt, sit up for me. Did you give him catmint?" Tanpaw pushed her way in to sit by her grandfather. "Yes, just a second ago." Lilypaw replied. "Good, can I give him some honey?" "Sure, if his throat is felling bad." Lilypaw told her. "Oh, it is!" Windpelt croaked. "Shhhh! Don't talk! You'll make it feel worse!" Tanpaw fed him the sweet tasting liquid and Windpelt sighed.

((Actually, as cats, we can't taste honey, and so we wouldn't know that it's sweet, but that really doesn't matter at all)).

Windpelt, you need to eat the other herbs. "It isn't very necessary?" Nonsense! Of course it's necessary! I understand and appreciate your willingness to make sacrifices for the sake of your Clanmates, but, except for catnip, they herbs are all relatively common and grow quite well in our territory (although I admit gathering honey is a bit unpleasant, to say the least). There's no one else in the Clan who would need them, either, as far as I can tell, and besides, if you don't eat these herbs, you'll die! This isn't just whitecough you have; It's blackcough! Even greencough could possibly kill you, even if you were given the right herbs, but this is far worse! My family was in very good health when we caught it, and besides myself, none of us survived! Alright, my siblings and I were mere kits, and therefore much more sensitive to such things, but my parents were both strong, experienced... erm... loners! And I only lived because Speckledfur found me and gave me all the herbs I'm giving you now, once every day! So, yes, it is "very necessary."

My apologies if you already ate the herbs and I didn't notice. Even if you did, though, you have to eat them again, because it's a new day. So please do so immediately. Everything I gave you yesterday, but if your throat doesn't hurt anymore, leave out the honey. And don't just leave it out on purpose because you want an excuse not to eat an herb; I'll be able to tell the difference from the look in your eyes.

"Alright, Alright, I'll eat the dang herbs! Just stop perstering me!!"

PS: Lilypaw, my controller remembers the weirdest things in life, and she happened to remember that Erin Hunter, sometime in the Power of Three series, that Hollyleaf stated that she wan't interested in licking the sweet liquoid that Cloudtail got for Leafpool!

(April 30, 2010 - 8:25 am)

 Sorry.

((Oddly enough, so does my controller, and I remember some apprentices in their den who were given honey saying that it didn't taste of anything, but they loved it because of the way it slid down their throats... Oh well. It doesn't matter.))

Windpelt awoke and coughed like crazy. He soon stopped, and decided to lie in the clearing to look at the moonlight. He continued to cough, and cough, and cough like there was no tomorrow. He went back to his den, but he barely had enough energy to move. "Ohhh, I feel terrible!!" He finally collapsed in his den, but went in another bout of coughing.

THE NEXT DAY

Tanpaw walked into the elders den to give Windpelt his daily medicine. "NOOO!!! She dropped the herb bundle and ran to Windpelt's unmoving body. "Windpelt, no this can't be good!" She nudged at his body and called in Sugarkit and Rainkit. "No, what happened? Why can this be?"

No! No!

Is he... He isn't dead, is he? Please don't let him be dead! He could be just unconscious! But I can't tell! Alright. I'll shout his name as loud as I possibly can. If he's alive, he'll respond for sure.

Okay, stand back, everyone. This is going to be loud. WINDPELT?

Windpelt's unmoving body made Sugarkit and Rainkit so scared that they raced out of the clearing and into the nursery. But Tanpaw stayed there. As a medicine cat apprentice, she needs to learn how to learn how to accept that she can't help everybody.
