Chatterbox: In This Month's Issue
white elephant game!
white elephant game!
the holiday season is almost upon us, so i think it's time we bring back this gift-giving game :D i'll just copy and paste the directions from last year :p
Here's how this will work:
1. Under an alias, post a description of the wrappings of an imaginary gift by December 1st.
3. After December 1st, we will choose gifts in the order of description posted. I’ll post a list of the order we’ll be choosing in :)
4. When someone has chosen your gift, reply to them revealing what it is. It could be something real, such as a poem or drawing, or something imaginary, like a puppy or a jar of stardust. Also, reveal your identity!
5. Once you receive your gift, respond with a thank-you! That's only polite! :)
RULES:
- Post your gift description by December 1st
- Post under an alias, not your CBer name.
- Wrap your gift creatively!
- Don't reveal your own identity until someone claims your gift. If the gift you choose turns out to be a picturing or something else that requires your CBer identity, you can make an exception.
- Remember to post!
- Have fun!
I'll post my gift when this thread shows up :)
here's the link to last year's, in case you need inspiration/a demonstration on how it works: http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/thismonth/node/558817

my gift is placed inside of a gift bag--but it's no ordinary gift bag, of course. the bag itself looks almost like smokey, patterned glass, but upon closer inspection, it's made entirely of frost, and the intricate patterns are in fact glittering fractals of ice. the contents of the bag are concealed not by tissue paper but by...a miniature arctic ocean? indeed, the bag is topped with navy blue waves capped with white foam, scattered with tiny half-submerged sparkling white icebergs. each time the tiny waves crash against the sides of the bag, they send up a spray of cold, salty water. only the most valiant will be able to claim this present, because to do so, you'll have to brave the freezing cold waters.

(I’ve never eaten plum pudding but oh well)
My gift is wrapped in a long, twinkling mass of fairy lights plugged into an electrical outlet. Underneath the fairy lights it is also wrapped in a slightly iridescent purple cloth that catches on your fingers and makes a faint zipping sound when you touch it. When you shake it, nothing happens. It smells like a piping hot, clean metal spoon, and slightly plasticky.

It was incredibly difficult tp choose a gift, especially since I have all the choices of first pick. Goodness! Very well, I believe Holly's gift entices me the most ;)

Happy holidays! Your gift is a written picturing. Please give me your pronouns and tell me whether you'd rather reveal or have me imagine a picturing based on your white elephant alias :)
Btw, @snowstorm, are we picking gifts in the order of posting, or do you pick a gift when yours has been picked? Sorry, just not quite sure :)
(December 6, 2024 - 1:05 pm)
we're picking based off the order of posting! so, now it's stellar crystal's turn, and you'll be picking after ice_queen :D

@snowstorm, ty!
@Crystal Snow, here's your picturing at last :)
* Hawkstar *
A gust of snow shook itself into you, settling in melting fractals on your arms, on your legs, in the fur-lined hood of your coat. You needed to warm up, especially since the snow was thickening. You looked around and sprinted for the nearest building.
A bell tinkled, twice, as you pushed open the glass door, and the snowstorm seemed to fade away into another world as you closed the door. A warm smell swirled up to greet you - cinnamon? pine? maybe apple? - and a voice said merrily, "Good morning! Anything I can do for you?"
You looked around; it was a moment before you spotted her. She was standing with her back turned to you, reaching up to adjust a wreath hung on the wall. With a swish of her scarlet cloak, she turned to face you, and you saw that she had a pointed, elf-like face framed by softly curling brown hair. Her eyes were a stormy blend of cinnamon and hazel, and a holiday atmosphere clung around her, from the expression on her face to the holly-green dress and red cloak she was wearing.
"...Um," you said. "Not really? I just wanted to get out of the snowstorm." Then curiousity got the upper hand. "Where exactly is this?"
The girl half-laughed, coming over to you as a tabby cat appeared from nowhere and wound itself around her legs. "It's the December Dream Store. We sell happiness and peace and love. And it will be exactly what you want while you're here."
Looking around again, you realized that the walls were lined with dark wood bookshelves hapharzardly stacked with books. The girl pulled one out of the nearest shelf and thrusted it into your hands. "Take it," she said with a mischievous smile. "And may all your wishes come true."
Half an hour later, you looked up from browsing the shelves to see that the snow had thinned behind the glass door. The girl had disappeared, but as you stepped back out onto the street and pulled the door closed behind you, you felt happiness and peace and love rising up in you. And then the front cover of the book fell open, and you saw a message scrawled across the front leaf. Happy holidays from Hawkstar~

A short, but wide, gift sits contently under the tree. It's wrapping done just well enough to cover the box.
The wrapping paper is, for some reason, trucks and dinosaurs. (It's the only wrapping paper I had. I'm cheap, so I didn't wanna buy a new one.) Anyways, besides theodd wrapping paper. This gift is pretty normal. A silver bow on top, attatched with tape. Fairly heavy to lift, but do able.
