Writing/Art Contest
There have been things like this in the past, and I decided to bring it back.
So, you will team up with a partner. Each pair will have one writer and one artist. The judge will give you a theme and a deadline. The writer will write a story or a poem (maximum 100 words) relating to the theme, and the artist will make a piece of art relating to the theme. It's nice if they go together, but they don't have to.
At the deadline, the judge will judge the entries. The winners will become the next judge.
The first theme is growing. You could try something about plants, or children, or science, or something else entirely.
The deadline is two and a half weeks from now, September 9. I know people's schools are starting, and you'll need to find your partners, so I can extend the deadline if needed.
Good luck, and have fun!

Can I join for this round? Preferably as a writer but I can probably draw too.
(October 22, 2017 - 10:22 am)
Hola! I'd like to join! Artist or writer are both a-okay with me.
(October 22, 2017 - 10:25 am)
Again, probably wrong place to put this, but PMs on YWP are up and working again!
(October 23, 2017 - 12:38 am)
Do you have a partner? if not, I can write and you can draw.
(October 29, 2017 - 6:30 pm)
@Kitten: I have some ideas. Are you on YWP?
(October 25, 2017 - 2:37 pm)
I have some ideas, if you want to share. I was thinking a wolf monster done in pencil, because wolves are endurance hunters and war is monstrous...

Lucy -
Here's my writing. it's not quite what we discussed but hopefully it can be applied to a lot of different situations, including an inner struggle.
I can't wait to see your art! There are a lot of specific images in this poem, but feel free to let your creativity take you wherever you want with this.
"Dreary War"
Every day when the sun comes up
The white and black soldiers arise from their beds
Stumbling, stretching, and grimacing in the light.
The white check their fortifications,
unroll the endless scroll of
preparations.
Meanwhile the black dance in a wild frenzy,
Fanning the flame of their anger
until the adrenaline drives them
to charge.
All day the swords flash and the pistols fire
The white, then the black, surge backward and forward
Until all that can be seen from a distance
is a throbbing gray
blur.
But before the sun sets and they fall back asleep
when they are too exhausted from fighting this dreary war,
before then,
Perhaps a rainbow
will stretch across the sky
and the soldiers will pause,
raised weapons faltering,
as together they appreciate
the beauty of
the water
and
the sun.

Sorry I kind of disappeared there! I am not on YWP. A wolf sounds cool. I would like to write a poem, and I was thinking it could go something like,
The wolf strikes once
She is taken
My life turns gray
The wolf strikes twice
He is taken
My life turns gray-er
The wolf strikes trice
I am taken
My life turns dim
The wolf strikes quadruple
They all are taken
I cannot live
With more detail, of course, and more interest. What do you think?
(October 27, 2017 - 8:46 am)
Maybe a three-strike, but yeah, that's amazing! I can do that... Ooh, maybe a three-headed wolf, and of course it's got to have some sort of tendrils...
(October 27, 2017 - 3:59 pm)
This is going to be great! What do you think I should do to the poem besides getting rid of the fourth strike (that's what you meant, right)? I feel like each of the verses needs another line.
(October 28, 2017 - 4:37 pm)
Yes, that's (close enough to) what I meant, although I think taking out the third strike would work better, and then of course changing "quadruple" to "thrice", and the gray-grayer-dim-live to gray-dim-live. So it's from the POV of someone left behind. Maybe add something about the way the wolf strikes, its physical characteristics, how it doesn't hesitate or look back or say anything, something like that? Does one actually see it, does it seem like it might bother with our protagonist, anything you want. My main question is: is the deadline today or tomorrow? I'm going to be pretty busy either way, but it being tomorrow would help.
(October 29, 2017 - 8:45 am)
And... Wha-bammo! All set!
(October 29, 2017 - 7:57 pm)
It's beautiful!!
(October 30, 2017 - 6:04 pm)
The wolf of war.
(October 30, 2017 - 8:55 pm)
That's so good! It looks like a picture!
