And I believed
By Black Alley
“Best friends forever”
That’s what you told me
And I believed
I was small-
Barely five
And I believed
As we ran through a field
With grass to our chest
Tickling our arms
Playfully picking wild flowers
Finding wiggly worms-
Tadpoles-
And making them our pets
Sometimes we were detective
-Solving a robbery
Sometimes we were married
-And had a family
Sometimes were were superheroes
-And saved the world
Sometimes you were the prince
And I was the princess
-And we would fall in love
And live happily ever after
You said that when we grew up
We’d be married
And I believed
Than in twenty years
We would-
That nothing would change
As we made it snow
With styrofoam
And went into the field
To make a snowman
Out of mud
If I were gone
You would come over
Every day
To see when I would be back
And when I came home
We would play for hours
We were spies
And we would spy on our parents
For weeks
Pretending that they were evil
That they were going to take over the world.
And when that got boring
We were the ones that were going to rule the world
And I believed
That we would
Grow old together
One day-
For my seventh birthday-
You gave me a picture
Of us together
In a homemade frame
Saying best friend forever
And I believed
That I would know you
Until I died
And even after that
But I was wrong
I was wrong
My family
Decided to move
And I spent as much time
With you
As I could.
On the day that I was leaving
I came to say goodbye
But you were gone
I haven't seen you since
And seven years later
I still look at that picture
And wish
That forever could have been longer
That I could someday see you again
And I believe
That someday
I will

Thank you. This is one that has been swimming around in my head for a while, I just needed to find a way to put it on paper.

Lies I Tell Myself
One
I'm flexible
no.
I'm rigid
stubborn
a brick wall in everyone's way.
Two
I'm a good person
no.
I'm terrible
known for pushing someone in the pool fully clothed
lying to people who care about me
a demon in an angel's mask.
Three
I'm confident.
no.
I'm insecure
have a bad attitude
say I'm bad luck
act like I'm the worst thing that ever happened to everyone.
Four
I'm mature.
no.
I'm childish
come up with crazy ideas
talk too much
and worry too much about hurting people's feelings.

@Poets! Do you all mind if I write a poem about all of you? I wanted to describe each poet with metaphors and stuff, and maybe just write some lines about all the poetry/poets. If you're uncomfortable with this or want to give me your permission to write about you, just say so.

That would be very cool! I saw a poem on the Slam like this one time, it was really neat. You have my permission.

That's a really cool idea! I'm completely down to be written about, and I'd love to see the end result when you complete it! :)

This is just the first chapter in a book I'm writing. I hope you like it!
begin
light
it is all around me
swirling
drifting
surrounding
it is
all I see
all I feel
all I know
how long have I been here?
how long
will I be here?
I wait
the waiting is longer than anything
I know
and then
something.

You are the valley that my
Heart settled in
A lonely moaning
After dark,
A setting sun
A shining moon
And you, like
Smoke rising from
An empty fire pit
Embers still glowing
Hours after
The flames were doused
And the forest,
Which held me when I
Needed it
Is wood unburned
And wishes undone
Magic unspooled because
You were there,
With each step you
Healed me
Until I was ready to
Let the wind
Loosen its grasp
So you could hold me
Instead.
When I smiled at you
I was more than
The tallest mountain I’d
Climbed before,
Scratching knees
And bloody fingers
I was more than
The deepest ocean I’d
Swum before,
Frozen, swirling, and
A whispering of creatures I
Couldn’t see
I was more than even the earth
I lived on,
More than jewels and
Dust and
Memories
Because now there was you
And you were the mist
That swam around me
Embracing me without
Bounds
And keeping me close
Forever,
The way our planet
Hugs the stars,
And in this
Voice I heard
I turned
And found you
A hundred thousand beams of
Light
Were all that you were
But that was okay for
Me
Because your fire kept
My heart warm
Safely tucked
Beneath
Your wings.

Oh. My. Goodness. Soprano. This is...I don't even have words. It's like, beyond good. You should publish this! It's one of the best poems I've ever read, and I'm serious!
(February 8, 2018 - 10:16 am)

I'm hazel eyes from the middle of spring
dark brown hair that's auburn in the summer
mismatched shoelaces and scuffed up sneakers
I'm racing in the wind with my best friend
trying to cartwheel but falling laughing in the grass
I'm T-shirts, sweaters, and long loose elephant pants
I'm flowers in the springtime and acorns in the fall
climbing vines and jumping down
spinning and spinning on a tire swing
I'm sitting with Hazel and listening to the rain
I'm dancing and I'm twirling
I'm clapping out a beat
I'm singing with no words and dancing through the wind
I'm my mistakes and my sucesses, my laughing and my cries, I'm my cartwheeling and my falling, I'm summer and I'm rain, I'm my passion and my pain, I'm the music that's playing in my heart.
