Poetry Contest
Well, we haven't had one of these in a while, have we? Time for a new one, I say! Welcome, resident poets!
The rules are pretty simple. I am the first judge. I will give you a theme, and you must write a poem relating to the theme. Be creative with your interpretations! I will then judge the entries by a set date, and the winner will then be the next judge, and set the next theme. And so on, and so forth.
The first theme will be... *dramatic drumroll*
Stars! Whether you chose to write about the kind of stars you wish on, or the kind that take the stage, I will be eagerly awaiting your sparkly, shiny, beautiful poems. Have them in by... Saturday, March 18. Two weeks. Sound fair?
I hope to see your poems soon!

Pluviophile~
I dance in; melt in; play in the rain -
I desire for; wait for; live for the rain -
As it comes down from heaven above
It writes on cobblestones, umbrellas, and trees
That all is well, all is well, all is well, my love.
For this one thing I long,
Petrichor: its beckoning song
I wish to watch the landscape blend
In the downpour,
All edges turned to curves and bends
In the rain, my truest friend.
~
Rain is my favorite. :)

This looks fun! Is it okay if I join?
If so, here's my poem!
Road Rain
It isn't what it
seems like.
Dripping and
splashing and
flowing and
soaking into
the pavement.
Cement pulls
water
the way a magnet pulls
metal
and it permeates
and releases
the smell of wet
soil: almost fresh,
almost burnt,
like acid eating
the street
from inside out,
like pineapple
tickling your tongue
or a penny
dipped in vinegar.
The funny thing is
not the penny
not the vinegar
but the way
it scours
and at the
same time
heals.
The penny returns
with a fresh glow
a new shine.
Maybe
the rain washes
away the
mud and the
rubber and the
smell of cars
and exhaust
and despair
and loneliness
and replaces it
with something
new.
Maybe
it isn't what it
seems like.

Rain:
Rain, like when you reach to turn off the shower
trapped in the moment just before everything is replaced by silence,
sorrowful enough to make you happy, make you want to dance,
forget red-eyed tear stains, smiling and shivering, reminded how beautiful tears are when they come from the sky
rain, heavy pouring, lights and loud, like everything
soaking, stripping you down, down, leaving you raw and there,
reminding how you always get lost in familiarity
reminding you how forgotten you feel,
because you care like the rain, subtle not at all, consistent and staining, but all gone when you shatter
broken enough to love the rain
broken enough to maybe be beautiful.

Oh, I guess I wasn't specific enough, but I meant the poems were due by the 21st, but judging would be the next day. Sorry about the misunderstanding!
Ok, so this round was actually really difficult to judge, since so many people submitted with a lot of different styles and great poems, but after a lot of thought, I decided on these:
Honourable mention- Rogue Wilding, I liked the upbeat tone and positive view of rain, which I totally agree with, and I'm glad to find a fellow Pluviophile!
Third place- Leo, even though it struck me as an angstier poem, I can still appreciate the emotion and descriptions throughout your writing. The fact that that there was still a ray of hope that seemed shine through at the end left a good impression too.
Second place- Summer, I found your similes and comparisons rather intriguing, and the lines were split in an interesting way as well. I also enjoyed how the poems seemed to be about subverting expectations, and showed how even though rain might initially seem like a bad thing, it ends up cleansing and refreshing instead.
First place- Nyx! I absolutely love your imagery and word choice, especially since I can completely relate to the sort of abstract, almost figurative and more thoughtful style of writing. It's hard to pick out a specific line to be my favourite, but I really liked the "thousand diamonds shattering" and "Sparkling gems skip and/bounce" Congratulations!
Everyone, thank you for participating and keep up the creativity! I hope to see you in the next round.

Congrats, everyone! Y'all did good.

I will keep practicing until I achieve first. And then, I shall continue. Thank you for the honourable mention, Jaybells.

Of course!
*sobs in the background* How do you stay so positive all the time, Rogue?
Bella say minxy...?
