Poetry Contest
Well, we haven't had one of these in a while, have we? Time for a new one, I say! Welcome, resident poets!
The rules are pretty simple. I am the first judge. I will give you a theme, and you must write a poem relating to the theme. Be creative with your interpretations! I will then judge the entries by a set date, and the winner will then be the next judge, and set the next theme. And so on, and so forth.
The first theme will be... *dramatic drumroll*
Stars! Whether you chose to write about the kind of stars you wish on, or the kind that take the stage, I will be eagerly awaiting your sparkly, shiny, beautiful poems. Have them in by... Saturday, March 18. Two weeks. Sound fair?
I hope to see your poems soon!

I have the joy of the Lord in my heart, and it couples with my determination to become perseverance. :)

Wow! Second!
Everyone else's poems were so awesome. Seriously. I know everyone says that, but I'm actually really impressed.

Wait WHAT? I WON? *happy scree* *runs and tells parents that I won* I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!
Okay okay, deep breath. The next theme will be:
Fury
I can't wait to see y'all's interpretations of the theme! Also, the deadline/judging date will be September 5, about two weeks from now. I might stretch the date depending on how many poems are submitted.

Fury
~~~~~
Rage, bubbling up
Consuming your line
Of Vision;
Anger piling over
Seconds, hours, years;
Lies --tormenting-- nipping,
And biting
Like bitter tempest
Winds;
Blowing, blurring,
Everything in your path;
Staining a horrid crimson
Like the Furies of
Greek mythology;
Fueling the ongoing cycle,
That searing fire
Of hatred.
Okay, here's mine.
Fire
If you mock or taunt me again,
if you ignore or dismiss me again,
if you compress or confine me again,
I swear, alarms, sirens, flares
will go off.
Empathy and reason will evacuate--
quietly! in an orderly fashion!--
and leave the fire of rage
rumbling to life behind them
on thunderous feet.
The rage-fire will hungrily devour
all the air in my blood
and replace it with pure flame.
It will billow forward
leaving its black, sooty footprint behind
and scorching the walls of my heart--
and yours--
destroying everything in its path.
Thank you. You made me laugh. You could sell this- I'm pretty sure Cricket would buy it. It has a spirit of fun and overdramatization that's too rare.
I'm stretching the deadline/judjing dat to the 12th. 'Kay?
I'm sorry I haven't been participating! I think I'm finally going to write a fury poem, so here goes.
--
Fury is a quiet sort of girl--
but excellent at glares
Fury is a plain sort of girl--
but always wears crimson
Fury is an unassuming sort of girl--
but everyone remembers her
Fury is a petite sort of girl--
but acts like she's a giant
Fury is easy to forget--
until she takes over, turns your blood to fire, erupts like a volcano
Be careful.
Fury is not what she seems.
Ooh, I like the personification and foreshadowing!
(September 7, 2019 - 2:55 pm)
Thank you!
landslide
i thought her eyes would glow
red--- but though the
volcano had erupted, it was from
within, an explotion whose fire is
words--- they spouted in great tumbling
yells, an avalanche from the
quaking--- not burning, but
pounding, grinding, forcing me
under its tide--- i am
buried under the suffocating
fury, not the
lava, but the molten
dread and screams of the
victims.
Sorry I’m a day late, guys, but here’s the results from this theme!
3rd place: Luna-Starr!
I really liked the way your poem described…….. What was it? “An explosion whose fire is words”, and how someone yelling at you related to a volcano erupting, or a landslide. Well done!
2nd place: Jaybells!
I liked how you said the “Furies of Greek Mythology”, and “that searing fire of hatred”, but my favorite line was probably: “Lies --tormenting-- nipping/And biting/Like bitter tempest/Winds;”. This was great!
1st place: Kitten!
The way you took the theme “Fury”, and turned it into a girl was amazing! Especially how Fury was described as not very noticable, but at the same time standing out. My favorite part was when you said, “be careful/Fury is not what she seems”. Congratulations!
