Poetry Contest
Poetry Contest
Well, we haven't had one of these in a while, have we? Time for a new one, I say! Welcome, resident poets!
The rules are pretty simple. I am the first judge. I will give you a theme, and you must write a poem relating to the theme. Be creative with your interpretations! I will then judge the entries by a set date, and the winner will then be the next judge, and set the next theme. And so on, and so forth.
The first theme will be... *dramatic drumroll*
Stars! Whether you chose to write about the kind of stars you wish on, or the kind that take the stage, I will be eagerly awaiting your sparkly, shiny, beautiful poems. Have them in by... Saturday, March 18. Two weeks. Sound fair?
I hope to see your poems soon!

When there is no one to turn to--
I cry for the fakeness
And I cry for the reality--
I want to talk to someone
But everyone hurts
I've been called a nut
I've made my shell
But when I wake up with dew on my face
I know you don't remember who I am
I wish that we could dream together with our lips
I wish that I could tell you how alone I feel
I wish that you remembered me
I sometimes see you how you were
I used to love you
And now i love you more
But I can't decide how I love you
But when I realize
that you really don't care
I crack
My life is a poem. Expect from me many words; for they are my moments. Expect from me many phrases; for they are my heart.
If you have ever felt so alone
You know how I feel now

1) @Admins, interesting worded revision of my post! It's not something that I ever would have said myself, but all the same, it's interesting.
2) @Abi, okay. I'm sorry, I was mistaken.
(November 27, 2017 - 11:31 am)
Deadline in 3 days!

My poem (fictional):
Love you
Hate them
Stealers

When will you
Stand up
For yourself
For me

GAH! I NEARLY MISSED THIS! I love this theme, so hopefully, I'm not too late. This poem is interesting. XD
Helping You Carry the Trebuchet You Built, on a Warm Afternoon, in Love
I wish I could take a picture
Of this moment,
And save it forever.
A smudge of dirt
Across your cheek,
And another thumbed across your chin
The freckles on the tan of your
Nose
Standing out as you grin
Strong arms lifting your side
Shifting one for a second to
Brush your hair behind your ear
One dark strand still falling in
Your deep brown eyes,
And then they’re back on the steady wood
As I get a firmer grip on my end
Shaking my braid behind me
Pushing up my glasses on
My shoulder
Starting to walk
The cold cement
Of a cinderblock
Scratching, pressed against my face
Looking at the ground --
“This was a bad idea,”
You laugh
“I know.”
Smiling and straightening your spine, I
Can’t help but admire your firm jawbone
And the way your lips are moving as you breathe;
Inching down the ramp
Making sure not to
Drop it, or run into
A wall --
“I’m going to hit something! I’m going to die,”
You exclaim
“If you die…”
I can’t think how to end the sentence so
I just say
“I’ll be sad.”
You nod and
We’re at the bottom now
The decline completed
And there’s your car
And I leave you there
Because I’m holding up
The bus,
But as I gently let down
My side
I pause for a moment
Let my hand come up to your arm --
“You’re welcome,”
I say
And with that
I smile and wipe
My stinging hands
On my jeans,
Feeling your eyes on me
As I walk away,
Wiping the sweat from
The back of my neck
And closing my eyes to save forever
The image of you
A sweaty teenage boy
But a sweaty teenage boy I
Particularly want to kiss
That smudge of dirt
So accidentally
Effortlessly
Making you even more beautiful
Than you were before
Something I thought wasn’t
Possible
But then again
They say anything is
Possible
When you’re in
Love.

Here we are! This was a great round, I loved all your poems! I had a hard time trying to pick just four.
Honorable Mention: Lucy B.. Great description! I love how you got all the details, and I particularly like the ending.
3rd Place: Oh man, how do I choose? September, you get third place. Your poem was so short and sweet and meaningful and heartbreaking! All in 13 words, wow.
2nd Place: Abigail S.. This is an amazing poem. I love the metaphors and the description!
1st Place: Stargirl. Ahh, this was such a hard choice! But Stargirl, I can really relate to your poem and it was so full of emotion!
Starseeker, Kitten, and SopranoTwo, I really liked your poems too, and I wish I had room for everyone.

Thank you so much, Leafpool!!! I was so shocked when I read my name! I'm so glad you can relate to my poem.
I really liked everyone else's poems, too. SopranoTwo, I can so relate to that feeling!
So, I guess I create the new theme? I'll post it soon, probably tomorrow or the next day.
Once again, I am so grateful!
~Stargirl!
P.S. Sorry for all the exclamation marks :P :)

Once again, congratulations to everyone who participated in the latest poetry contest. Everyone's poems were so beautiful. I look forward to seeing more beautiful poems this next contest. After careful consideration, I have decided to make the next theme...
Death.
I know that many people are uncomfortable talking about death. It is frightening to think that one day, everyone eventually leaves the Earth. However, I think that the American culture (America is where I live, which, yes, is on the Earth :)) does not think about death enough. Yes, death is scary, but it is also a part of life, and at the end of the day, something all of us must face. I also think that it doesn't have to be so terrifying. Whatever your beliefs are, no one really knows what death is like, because no one has died and come back to tell the story. Even if someone has had a near-death experience, they haven't completely died. But you could look at it as a new adventure.
So, however you choose to interpret this theme --
You could think of it as the death of a feeling or relationship, the death of a loved one, the death, even, of yourself after a long, adventurous life. You might imagine what the process of death is like, or, if you believe in life after death, what that is like. You may even interpret it as what comes before life, before a child is conceived and develops in the womb.
-- I hope that you can begin to think about something that is, essentially, ignored in the American culture. For me, poetry seems a good way to think about it.
If anyone is uncomfortable with this theme, you obviously don't have to take part in the contest, or you could interpret it as something that you are more comfortable with. If anyone has gone through a near-death experience, or someone close to you has passed away, please don't be offended by this subject. You obviously can choose not to participate, or you could write about it, if you want to. Just know that I respect everyone and what they have gone through, so please tell me if anything is offensive or you want me to change something.
And now, I think I'll make the due date December 15, which is about 2 weeks from now (it's a Friday). I'll do the judging the next day. If anyone wants me to extend the due date, though, I will, because I hate due dates, myself. Just know that I will be on a trip from the 17th of December to the 2nd or so of January, and I might be busy.
Tell me if you have any complaints or concerns, and I'm sorry this comment is so long :). Once again, please join if you feel comfortable, but if not, of course you don't have to.
Love,
Stargirl
