The next challenge for the artists to draw a picture (no theme just draw) and for the writers to write a short story inspired by the picture. Please try to keep the stories under 1,000 words. The deadline for drawings is Thanksgiving (Nov. 24). If you or your partner cannot participate for some reason, Clouded Leopard and The Artist can take the place of a missing artist and Autumn Leaves or Applejaguar can take the place of a missing writer. Have fun y'all!

@Rose bud

Well, Clouded Leopard left. *Sigh* Is it okay if I have a different partner for each round? I mean, I kinda can't help it.

And when are you going to judge?

A worthy opponent.
The mighty wind spirit Kaze floated in the air, facing the giant dragon she had been sent to kill. She twirled her twin katanas menacingly, but her soul cried at the thought of slaughtering such a beautiful beast.
But one did not simply disturb the gods and go freely.
She drew her focus in, and sharpened her mind to a point. The dragon was glorious, yes, but it had stolen something, and justice had to be dealt.
It was the way of the gods. An eye for an eye.
Clutched in the beast’s talons was the gods’ most treasured possession: an enormous pearl that could change one’s form— it could make a man a god, and could make a god a man.
They had sent her, of course. It was always her.
She turned her attention back to the dragon and charged, twisting in the air as it batted at her with its claws.
Kaze wondered why she had agreed, then remembered that had been for the same reason as everything else. The same reason that she had agreed to become the gods’ protector.
She soared through the air, and the dragon flew up after her. She grimaced. Who was hunting who now? But the sky was her realm; she ruled the winds, after all.
Yet she was only a spirit, no matter how hard she tried to fit in; no matter how much she did for the gods, she was not a goddess.
Not yet.
The dragon wove through the clouds, then turned to her, and for a moment  there was a terrible stillness.
And what she heard changed everything.
It must’ve been barely a whisper, but she heard it as if it had been sent from the heavens.
Help.
She looked twice before she was certain.
It had to be.
Slowly, she sheathed her katanas and turned back to the dragon.
"What do you need?” she breathed.
Help.
She waited.
I am— I was— a man.
She sucked in a breath. The puzzle pieces fell into place one by one.
I was cursed.
“But how?” whispered Kaze. “How did you know about the pearl?”
Oh, anyone can find anything if they look hard enough. And I was desperate enough to go off of nothing but a myth.
The dragon laughed, a sharp caustic laugh.
And look where that brought me.
And she made the decision, then and there, to listen to her heart.
Kaze sheathed her katanas and drew the clouds aside, making a path for the dragon. He looked at her in surprise, a silent thank you passing in between them, before he disappeared into the sky.
She watched him for a minute longer, until he was no more than a red ribbon in the endless expanse of destiny.

Sorry I disappeared over Christmas. I'm a little confused when trying to keep track of this, so if you are an author or artist who STILL doesn't have a partner, can you let me know? Soon? Thanks! Don't worry, I won't let this die without judging. I still think y'all are the most talented people on the planet :)

I still have no artist, so I guess I'm gone... *sigh*

I'll be your artist, but that would mean that, no matter how high your scores are, we can't have 1st place because that would be cheating. Are you okay with that?

I would love it if you were my artist and I am TOTALLY okay with that! I'm not doing this for the score, I'm doing it for participating and having fun!

Thank you soooo much!

@Rose bud

I am an artist. Coco is my partner, but I don't know when she'll have her story in. Thanks for being the judge, by the way :)

Here's our story, Bluebird! Sorry it took so long, I had to think of a story to write.
Alya ran along the beach. Brendon was late. Again. She sighed. “I only have so much time.” She said aloud.
“Until what? I thought you said you were free today.” A voice said. Alya jumped and turned around. There he was. “Um, I am. Free today, I mean.”
“Then why do you have ‘only so much time’?” He asked, looking amused.
“Because,” Alya tried to think of an excuse. “my Mom wants me, I mean, she expects me back at three?” Even to her own ears, it didn’t sound convincing. “Because of company?” She tried again.
“Well, then, we’d better start before we run out of time!” Brendon laughed. Alya started to unfurl her kite, grateful for the distraction. He almost found out, Her mind panicked. But he didn’t. She tried to sooth herself. It didn’t work, so she forced herself to relax. “Ready?” She asked.
“Ready.” He confirmed, and they started running down the beach. Alya soon lost track of time, happily letting the wind catch under her kite. She glanced at her watch, and stopped abruptly. It was 2:59. Brendon skidded to a halt ahead of her and wheeled around. “Why’f you stop?” He asked.
“It’s two fifty-nine!” Alya gestured to her watch. “I have to go!”
“Why is it such a big deal? I mean, surely it’ll be fine if you’re only a bit late. And if you run, you still might make it, at any rate.”
“No,” Alya panicked. She had lied and now she had to pay. “no, you don’t understand! I need to go! Bye!”
“I’ll take you home.” Brendon offered.
“No, it’s only a block away. I’ll be fine!” Alya tried to force brightness into her voice. It was too late. Brendon was helping her wrap up her kite. She reached forward to take it back, and in that time where they were touching, the clock ticked to 3 O’clock. They disappeared from the modern world.
And reappeared in a fantasy one.

This contest is so cool! I'm eager to see who the winner will be.

How many more rounds until the winners are final? Or is this the last round?

There will by one last round after this one, so stick around Owlgirl, we might have even more openings!!

Booksy, here is my WIP. I'll post a clearer picture later. Honestly I'm more of a writer than artist, but I love sketching!

What do you mean by openings? You mean like forming new teams, or substituting as writer or artist?
