Normality (though not

Normality (though not really)

Ah yes, I believe that it’s time we take a new approach to this whole war. Why don’t we each make one character that is not a Resistance soldier or a soldier of Catastrophe or a part of the Kyngdom Council or even a part of the ongoing war? Maybe we can write through the POV of a character watching all of this unfold and how the war is affecting their lives. So maybe you’ll create a peasant, or a student, or a duchess. Maybe you’ll create a normal Homo Avian, Dolor Felis, or Anthro. Whatever it may be, let your creativity soar in the POV of someone different. I urge you to take part in this new project. We will write character sheets and RP here.

Jamundi~~

We step outside of the house. The sun is just beginning to rise. There are no guards currently patrolling the streets, but we still move as quiet as possible.

We reach the main square.

There's screaming, and a large crowd.

"What's going on?" Bomani types.

" I don't know, " Ath replies. We push our way through the crowd.

It's one of the prisoners from the town jail. They've been chained to a post. A soldier nearby raises their whip, ready to strike.

"Stop!" I yell.

the soldier looks at me, as do Ath and Bomani.

"Wait...I recognize you three. Oh, yes, I certainly do."

the soldier laughs. "You're the group that I've ordered to be killed on sight."

he pulls out his gun.

"Um, you know, maybe we should run!" Bomani types.

" Yeah, sounds like a good idea to me! " I yell. We turn and run. The crowd clears for us.

Behind us, come the soldiers.

Ath~

Jamundi and Bomani turn to run, and I start after them, but something doesn't seem right. A gunshot, and a sharp pain in my better arm. I groan.

"Seriously?" I watch my silver life-blood trickle down my now equally bad arm. I glare at the soldier, who smirks maliciously. I frown. "Okay, that's it." Scales turn over on my skin. The soldier's smile turns terrified as I grow in size, sprouting wings and wickedly spiked horns. Screams rise from all around me, and my friends stop running. They look back at a horrible and horribly angry dragon, larger than the entire square towering far, far above the townspeople. From the air, it would have been a terrible sight, a massive dragon in the midst of the previously peaceful city. I roar. The villagers scream in pure terror and fled before my wrath. The soldier falls of his knees. I notice his multitude of medals and the special uniform. I smirk. Lowering my head to his level, I scowl.

"Take your legions, get out of this city, and live." He nods and sprints away. I shrink back into a human girl. Jamundi rushes over to me.

"Ath, you did it!... That was a lot easier than I thought." I smile, right before I fall to the ground and my world goes black.

Jamundi~~

I lay Ath down on the bed of the small room. It's the home of an elderly woman, who is the local healer.

"I suspect that changing forms wanes her energy, and pulling off a stunt like that certainly would have drained her energy rather quickly," the healer said.

"Will she be okay? " Bomani typed.

"She should be perfectly fine," The healer said, " She just needs some rest and a few pain killers. "

"Good," I replied.  The woman wrote something down in her medical log/tiny notebook.

"However. The bullet wounds in her arms may be another matter," The healer said. I'd come to this healer , Madam Hotaru because I trusted her well. She'd taught me a few things about healing wheb I first came here, and was the only citizen of the town to know about my werewolfishness.

"Extra pain killers?" I said in a joking voice.

" Ha, she'll likely need more than just pain killers! And I doubt she'll be able to use her arms for at least a week...even if she is the same being as you, Jamundi. "

Ath~

I drift in the darkest reaches of my mind, helpless. Emotionless. Suddenly, the wrappings around my right hand begin to unravel, like somebody is slowly taking them off. No no no no don't do that PLEASE I plead, hoping my physical body reacts in some way. The wrappings don't stop. I brace myself. Jamundi's voice echos through the darkness.

"What? I'm taking them off so that the skin on her hands can breathe. Oh come on, Bomani. Don't be ridiculous." Tears trickle down my face. Soon, Jamundi and Bomani will know what kind of a Jeutvar I am. And they will also know what kind of a monster I am.

Jamundi~~

I grab the medjc's hand before she can finish unwrapping Ath's hand.

"What is it, you two?"

"I think...she might be trying to hide something. I don't want to reveal her secrets like this," I reply. "Please. She deseves some privacy."

The Mistress rolls her eyes. "If you insist."

~~

Later, at about midnight, I find myself in Ath's sickroom. It's quiet, the only noises are our breathing and the crickets chirping outside.

"Wake up soon," I murmur. I know Ath might not be able to hear me. But it's nice to pretend.

To my surprise, her eyes flash open.

"Did you say something?" She asked. "And where are we?"

"I'm not really sure if I said something. We're at Madam Hotaru's house. She's a healer...and, er, kind of like my foster mother? As in, I've been staying with her and she's been taking care of me," I explain, "But the important part is that you're awake."

"Thanks. For earlier. When she was...unwrapping me."

"You could hear us?" I asked.

"Sort of. But it was muffled. Almost like a...dream,' Ath replied.

"You can trust me," i said, "I know what it's like to be a....monster."

"You're not a monster," Ath said strongly. She whispered, "But I am."

Ath~

Jamundi looks at me like I have no idea what I'm talking about.

"If you're what's classified as a monster, then the whole rest of the world is pure evil." He says, crossing his arms. I blush.

"Thanks, but you don't know what I've done." Jamundi settles into a more comfortable position.

"I'm listening, and I promise on my Jeutvar blood that you can confide in me, no matter what." He smiles, and I want to smile back, but the memories in my head keep me from doing so.

"If I tell you you'll hate me forever, and then I'd lose one of the two best friends I've ever had. Bomani would probably join you soon after, and then I'd have lost both of my only friends." Jamundi scoots closer and takes one of my hands, cupping it in his own. The Jeutvar sign of protection. For a moment I can only stare at his hands, rugged, but soft and gentle.

"That will never happen, Ath." I look into his eyes, and I see his sincerity and his trust. Then I know that this is what real friendship looks like. Something sparks in my heart, and I see the same flicker in his eyes.

Jamundi~~

The morning sun rises as it always does. Hotaru and Bomani are pleased to see that Ath is awake. Bomani decides to share some startling news with us.

"We've had a lot of fun in the nearly 36 hours we've known each other, and I'm glad I met you two," Bomani types, "But I think it's time for the next chapter of my life. I've heard of an organization called FAFA. Apparently, they're this organization thats purpose is to protect and serve animalkind. I've been considering joining for a long time now, and I've made my decision. I want to join them and do something good. I don't want to kill another being."

"Well, keep in touch, okay? And if you and your FAFA pals ever need any help, tell us, and I swear we'll be there," I said.

"And don't you dare forget me!" Ath adds.

Ath~

Jamudi and I stare at the road from the doorway. It's been a few hours since Bomani left, and we still haven't moved. Hotaru comes with a tray of hot tea.

"Come on, you two. Staring won't do anything... Here. have some tea." We comply silently. Hotaru leads us to a small table with two cushions to sit on. Jamundi blushes and glares at Hotaru, but she just looks smug. She sets the tray of tea down on the table and we sit. Hotaru sneaks out, giggling to herself like a child who knows a very critical secret. Jamundi is still blushing. Hotaru shuts the door behind her, and Jamundi stops glaring at her back. He rolls his eyes and pours the tea into two little cups. I reach slowly for my cup, but I wince as the bullet wounds flare. Jamundi sees this and puts the cup right in front of me. I smile weakly.

"Thanks." Jamundi smiles as well and takes a sip of his tea.

"No problem." We sit in silence for a while, sipping our tea and staring at the table blankly. Suddenly, my arm spazzes and some of my tea spills onto my wounds. I grit my teeth and moan. Jamundi flies forward to help. He sees the hot tea steaming on my blood and runs out of the room.

"HOTARU!" He cries. She appears, wiping her hands with a dish cloth. She sees my bandages steaming and yelps, rushing off with Jamundi. They reappear with fresh bandages and cold cloths. With skilled hands, Hotaru unwraps my arms and rewraps them with the cool strips of cloth wedged into the bandages. I frown. Jamundi lifts my chin.

"What's wrong?" He asks.

"I feel so weak, having to be helped with everything all the time." I scowl. "I'm sure it's a burden for you two." Jamundi shakes his head violently. I cock an eyebrow. Jamundi retreats back to his spot across the small table.

"Ath, there's something very improtant I have to tell you, and I've been thinking about it a lot, so hear me out." Hotaru's sillouhette appears behind the paper door behind Jamundi. Jamundi leans forward, resting his elbows on the table. His eyes flicker from the ground to my eyes. "I want you to know that you are the only person who's really made me feel like I belong. Over all of my life, I've been searching for someone like you." Hotaru bounces on her toes behind the paper.

"Why? I've done so much bad in my life-" Jamundi puts a finger on my lips with that strange light in his eyes he got when he promised me he'd never leave me for my sins. A sweet, sad smile plays about his lips.

"That doesn't matter, Ath. What I'm saying is... I... Ath, I..." He hangs his head. Thoughts are swirling in my head, trying to figure out what he's getting at.

Jamundi~~

"Ath, I...."

I think about what I am going to say next. It's something that I am positive is true. I didn't know how or when to tell Ath, but I think this is the right time.

"I love you."

The words are out of my mouth. I have the oddest feeling of floating. As if my body is suddenly light as air. At the same time, I feel terrified, because I don't know how Ath will react. I'm scared that she still didn't like me. Even though she'd proven she cared about me countless times already.

But when I look back at her, her eyes are shining.

"Jamundi, I..."

My heart races.

"I love you too."

She smiles at me and I smile back. I take off my gauntlets and show her my yands. Nobody but Madam Hotaru has ever seen my hands.

Red rubies gleam in my palms. My nails are more like sharp claws. Dark fur covers them.

"So, you're a Jeuvtar, too! A ruby-hands, at that!" Ath said, smiling . I took her hands in my hands. She leaned her head against my chest.

"But it doesn't matter if you're a ruby-hands, or a diamondhand, or even if you're a Jeuvtar. I will still love you," Ath says.

SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Ath~

I couldn't feel happier. For some odd reason, I didn't realize he loved me, much less that I loved him back, but now that I know I do I see that there was always that little feeling in the depths of my heart. After all, I never would have done the things I've done for him unless there was something special. I rest my head on his shoulder, fiddling with the straps around my arms. Jamundi must have seen, because he pushes my hands gently away from each other. Hotaru bursts in.

"FINALLY!! I thought you'd NEVER figure yourself out, Jamundi!!" She cries, clapping her hands together. Jamundi's blushing heavily, but smiling.

Jamundi ~~

I dip my head and blush after  Hotaru's remark. She smiles at me. "Now, Ath,  how do your arms feel?"

"Numb," She says , looking at them. "Not that bad, I guess."

Hotaru nods. "They should be healed in oh, a week or two. Assuming that you're a Jeutvar like Jamundi."

Ath dips her head. "Thanks."

Hotaru nods. "Call me if you need anything."

Ath nods.

Hotaru smiles at us and walks out of the room. "Now, I'm going outside to help clean up the mess the soldiers made in their short time here. I heard they were sendinf in reinforcements. Guess this would make a pretty useful little base, because it's so close to Sprocketville."

I watch her leave the room. Ath looks at me. "Guess we'll be defending the town for a while longer."
