Normality (though not really)
Ah yes, I believe that it’s time we take a new approach to this whole war. Why don’t we each make one character that is not a Resistance soldier or a soldier of Catastrophe or a part of the Kyngdom Council or even a part of the ongoing war? Maybe we can write through the POV of a character watching all of this unfold and how the war is affecting their lives. So maybe you’ll create a peasant, or a student, or a duchess. Maybe you’ll create a normal Homo Avian, Dolor Felis, or Anthro. Whatever it may be, let your creativity soar in the POV of someone different. I urge you to take part in this new project. We will write character sheets and RP here.

Winona~
Sera and I walk down the street, arm in arm. I see several heads turn in our direction when we walk by people on the sidewalk, but I don'the blame them. If Rowan doesn't wish he asked Sera to the festival by the wind of tonight, then I'll eat my sewing kit.
My dress is a knee length, light lavender color. The skirt is full, and a light layer of lace covers the fabric and makes up the wide strapped tank top sleeves. I remember going through the supply closet a couple of weeks previous while I was restocking shelves and seeing the dress. I had thought it pretty and didn't put it out because I liked it. Now I was glad for that decision.
We reach Sera's house in good time. I feel her tense as we near it, and I squeeze her arm reassuringly.
"You're going to be fine," I say as we reach the gate. "Just slip in and grab the tarts. No one will even know you are there."
She nods and let's go of my arm.
"I'll wait for you here," I say as Sera walks up the drive towards the house.
She's gone for several minutes. I fiddle with my dress and pat my hair, trying to find something to do to pass the time.
Finally I see Sera approaching, a large basket in her hand holding what I assume are the tarts.
I smile widely and turn to walk with her as she leaves the grounds.
"Did anyone see you?" I ask, peeking in the basket to see the tarts.
"Just one of the maids," she replies, slapping my hand away playfully. "I told her to tell Orion to pick you up at the shop at five."
I nod. "When is your date picking you up?"
"I'm meeting him at the festival," she says.
I laugh and skip for a few steps.
"I'm so excited!"

Lace sleeves? That's very Victorian. I kind of want to draw these dresses...

You should!

Rowan~
Orion and I ride until we lose track of time, laughing as we race, cantering over the hills with the sun in our eyes and the wind in our hair. For a time, I mostly forget about Sera and Jolius and everything, and simply enjoy the freedom. Finally, we stop.
"Oh! It's almost time for me to pick up Winona," says Orion when we reach the barn.
"That late already..." I marvel as we dismount and lead the horses into their stalls. "I'd better call Malory," I sigh as I walk out of the barn. I'm starting to wonder if this is such a good idea after all. I know Malory. One way or another, she'll make sure I'm miserable the entire time. But I can't think of anyone else to ask this late, and it'll be worth it if it makes Sera jealous.
I take a deep breath and punch Malory's number into the phone. Why do I even have her number anyway...
The phone rings a few times. Then, "Hello?" A high-pitched voice from the other side.
"Uh, hi Malory, it's me, Rowan," I start. "I know it's last minute and all, but, would you like to come to the Festival with me?" I cringe.
I can hear a muffled giggle from the other side, and then a hissed command. "Of course! I would love to!" She giggles. I grit my teeth, thinking about how I'm going to have to put up with this for the entire night. "We can meet at the Festival."
"Sounds good!" I try to sound excited, and I'm pretty sure I fail miserably, but she doesn't notice. "See you then!" I hang up, sighing hard. What have I done?
"Well?" says Orion, walking up to me.
"We're meeting at the festival," I half-groan. "You have no idea how hard I'm kicking myself inside for not remembering the festival and asking Sera sooner!" I kick the dirt angrily.
"Don't beat yourself up; I forgot too! And besides, it's not your fault this snub Jolius just happened to beat you to it." He claps me on the back. "Come on, mate. Let's make Sera wish she had ditched Jolius." I can't help but laugh along with him as we start off down the road.

Winona~
There's knock at the shoppe door. Sera and I are upstairs, making the finishing touches to our outfits.
Sera turns to me and grins.
"That's probably Orion," she says, her eyes mischevious. "You don't want to keep him waiting."
I blush and sit up, heading over to the spiral staircase.
I stop when I notice that Sera isn't following me. She's still sitting at one of the tables, checking the hem on her dress.
"Aren't you coming?" I say, resting my hand on the railing.
"You guys go on ahead, I'll be coming later," Sera says, waving her hand as if to shoo me away. "I don't want to intrude on you two lovebirds."
She smiles at my blush and gets up to go check her hair in one of the mirrors.
"See you at the festival, then," I say, then quickly go down the stairs before she can make me blush even more.
I reach the bottom and grab Orion's tie from off the desk where I had put it down earlier. I couldn't go to a dance not matching with my date, so I had chosen a lavender tie for him to wear.
Checking my reflection in one of the display cases, I fan my face and put on my grey wrap. I didn't want to get cold.
Taking a deep breath, I open the door and smile at Orion. He's wearing a simple but elegant dress suit, and, to my delight, no tie.
"Hi Winona," he says, and it relieves me to see that he is nervous too. "You look wonderful."
I feel my face warm slightly and stutter my thanks.
"I brought your tie," I say, holding it out to him. "I think it would be best if we went matching."
His eyebrows raise and one corner of his mouth turns up, obviously amused.
"I didn't realize that matching was so important," he says as he puts it on.
"I'm a dress-maker's daughter," I say jokingly as I close the door behind me. "Coordination is key, even in ties."
We both laugh, and I'm relieved to feel the tension lift.
"Where's Sera?" Orion asks as we fall into step next to each other.
"She's meeting Jolius at the festival," I say.
"Rowan's meeting Malory at the dance as well," Orion says, shaking his head. "Those two idiots. They know they like each other, but they have to get angry about such a small thing as this."
We continue walking down the street, talking about Sera, Rowan, and other topics. I admire the town around us as we walk, thinking of all the effort that had to be put inot decorating for the festival.
Midnight blue and white streamers crisscross overhead, interspersed with fairy lights. The lamp posts are wound in moon-shaped lights as well, and all the shoppes have sparkling bunting hanging from their entrances.
Other couples walk along the street along with us, all heading towards the town square where the main festival events and dance happen. I admire other peoples outfits and make a mental note to try to replicate some of them.
We enter the town square and I smile. The decorations are amazing, and the buzz of activity and people adds to the excitement in the air.
There is a cleared space in the center full of twirling couples, and a band is playing at the end of the square opposite us. Vendors and other festival games ring the outside of the town center, the delicious smells from the various food carts wafting above our heads. The air is full of laughter and music, carrying over the rooftops and into the red-hued sunset sky.
The next hour is full of activity as we wait for the main Folk Dance to start. I drag Orion to various game booths and succeed in beating him in several of them. We eat hot cakes and sugar-covered strudel, laughing as we lick our sticky fingers.
I keep looking around for Sera, and eventually I see her. She's standing next to Jolius, talking to him about something. I grab Orion's hand and pull him over to them, ignoring his protests.
Just as we reach her I see Rowan and Malory. She's hanging on his arm and giggling at something that probably that probably isn't funny judging from his polite faked laugh. I feel kind of bad for him. After all, no one deserves to be stuck with Malory for a whole night.
He sees Sera and I triumph inwardly as his mouth drops open and he stares. Sera notices, and she seems slightly smug as we greet each other.
"You look so pretty!" I say as I give her a hug.
"You too!" she says, returning the embrace. "I'd like to introduce you to Jolius Charmre."
"Pleased to meet you," I say to him. "I'm Winona Phillips."
He nods towards me and smiles.
Orion introduces himself, and while he is doing so I raise my eyebrows and mouth "nice catch" to Sera. She blushes and sticks her tongue out at me.
(March 17, 2018 - 3:25 pm)
Now that I think about it, this is oddly reminding me of Hermione and Viktor....XD
Sera~
Well Jolius is definitely charming.
I met him at the festival, and his pearly white smile nearly blinded me. He ran a hand through his leafy dirty blonde hair and offered an arm, to which I awkwardly accepted as I noticed some girls nearby glaring.
I didn’t purposefully get myself into this situation, I thought.
I only know Jolius through school, and he’s in a couple of my classes. He’s polite, nice, slightly vain, but nice. Well, he’s a typical narcissistic pretty boy to some people, but I guess once you get talking, he’s not that bad.
“So you’re taking my sister tonight,” Orion says abruptly after brushing past the introductions.
“I asked,” Jolius shrugs in a casual manner.
“Right,” Orion responds, and they just stand there for a while, staring at each other, sizing each other up.
Winona reacts faster than I do, and she pulls back Orion’s arm. “Oook, let’s go greet some more people Orion.”
Orion glances down at her and nods before giving me a small smile and walking off.
“So that’s Orion,” Jolius says.
Forgetting he was there, I turn to him sharply and nod. “Ah, yes. You haven’t actually met him up to this point, have you?”
He shakes his head. “Only seen him around.”
I nod, and am unsure as to how to proceed with this conversation.
But then someone bumps roughly into me, and I turn around to see Malory draping herself over Rowan and giving me a smug look.
I scowl and turn back to Jolius’ questioning gaze.
“Malory,” I answer. “She’s in a few of our classes. Real nice one she is.” My voice drips with sarcasm.
“Ah, I see,” he says, staring off after her. When the staring goes a bit too long, I bump into his arm.
“Well go ask her for a dance won’t ya?” I ask sarcastically, surprised that he’s being kind of rude and honestly weird. I mean, c’mon. It’s Malory.
“Okay,” he replies, and walks off to where Malory was.
I stare after him, my mouth open in shock. There’s no way that just happened. Does he not know what sarcasm is?
“Sera?”
I turn to Winona and grimace at her equally surprised look. “What’s Jolius doing?”
“He seems to have ditched me for Malory,” I reply. I then shrug and try to laugh it off. “Seems as though even she’s a better date than me, huh?”
“Oh stars,” she says, rolling her eyes. “Look. She’s even accepted.”
I turn and see that indeed, Malory is now clutching to Jolius like a life line as he leads her to the dancing area.
“I need to go get some punch,” I choke out, not waiting for Winona’s reply. “And punch someone,” I add with a mutter.
I head towards the food table and pour a glass of midnight blue liquid, sipping it to calm the boiling anger and honest confusion seeping through my veins. I sit on a bench alone, with the nearest people a couple sitting several seats down.
And so I sit there for a little while longer, watching the dancing proceed and I especially glare at Malory and Jolius when I feel the presence of someone else sitting next to me.
“Hey.”
I turn to the voice of Rowan and roll my eyes slightly, turning back to the dancers.
“What’s that?” he asks, and steals the cup straight from my hands. Before I can protest, he takes a sip and makes a face.
“How many unseasonal blueberries did they put in there?”
“How is it that you have the audacity to even-“
“C’mon Sera,” he says, exasperated. “Both of our dates ditched us for each other. Might as well complete the square.”
I give him a look. “No thanks.”
“Would one dance kill you?”
“Probably,” I snap.
“C’mon Flames,” he says, standing up. “Dance with me.”
I scoff at the childhood nickname and turn my head away, to which his face cranes and comes into my view again.
I ignore him when I feel my body suddenly jerk up. Before I can protest, he’s already dragged me into the dancing area and we fling ourselves into a lively two step.
“Rowan!” I yell, although it comes out as more of a laugh. “I swear!”
By the time the music stops we’re both laughing hard and trying to catch our breaths.
More music comes on, but this time it’s a slow melody that’s happy and kinda sad at the same time.
We proceed to do a modified ballroom/slow dance thing that’s known as the Wind’s Dance, and we glide across the floor. I catch a smile with Winona and she raises an eyebrow before looking back up at Orion.
“Is it too late to ask you to be my date to the dance?” Rowan asks, and I look back up at him.
I smile. “Why I’d love to.”
——
Orion~
“Finally,” Winona mutters, and she shrugs her head over in the direction of Sera and Rowan. “Wonder who initiated that.”
“Probably not Sera,” I laugh. “She’s pretty stubborn sometimes. Rowan can’t keep a grudge for too long without breaking.”
“Hm,” Winona says thoughtfully and looks back up at me. “Thanks for taking me today, Orion.”
I smile. “Thank you for letting me take you.”
Although it sounds corny, I find myself getting lost in her eyes for a while. I’m used to the harsh blue of my father’s or the dark green of Sera’s. But Winona’s warm brown eyes make me feel just as warm on the inside too.
I feel a tap on my shoulder and we stop, allowing for me to break from the trance. I turn and see a guy I don’t know. Maybe I’ve seen his face once at school, but that’s it.
“May I cut in?”
I want to say no, but I nod, making sure it’s alright with Winona. She shrugs slightly as if to say, “what could go wrong?” so I drop her hand, stepping out of the picture.
I sigh and run a hand through my hair before going to the side to watch the couples dance, when I suddenly feel another hand on my shoulder.
“Hey, Orion!”
I cringe at the high pitched squeal and turn hesitantly to face Malory.
“Hello there, Pitts.”
She wrinkles her nose slightly at the use of her last name but covers it with a flashy smile. “Please, call me Malory.”
“Oh no,” I reply. “I couldn’t. It’s much too casual, especially when you have another date with my best friend. Speaking of which, where is Rowan?”
“Well...I uh...I’ve decided to dance with Jolius for a while, in fact.”
“Oh?” I ask, as though I’m intrigued. “Why the sudden change of heart?”
She straightens. “Are you poking fun at me, Orion Queensly?”
“Now why would I do that?” I smirk. “I didn’t know you were so boy-crazy, though.”
“How dare you?” she spits, and tosses her drink in my face.
I just look at her and laugh, grabbing a napkin from the table and dabbing it on my face, until I realise that the drink has gotten on my tie. Then my mouth forms into a thin line. “Now that wasn’t very nice, Malory. I didn’t realise you had such a hot temper.”
“Provoke me one more time Orion, and I’ll-“
“And you’ll what?” I hear a voice interrupt, and I freeze. Malory looks over my shoulder, and her eyes widen as the person finally comes into my line of sight.
“Hi Winona,” Malory finally says, her voice a bit more high pitched.
Winona raises an eyebrow and turns to me. “What...happ...ened....”
Her voice trails off when her eyes find my tie, and the napkin dangling from my hand.
She looks back to see the empty glass in Malory’s shaking hand and then looks back at my tie again. I grimace at the fire building in Winona’s eyes as she figures it out. Everyone in the town knows not to ruin a Phillips’ work. Being able to make clothes is an art around here. In fact, most of the town’s wealth comes from textiles, with a few factories just north of here.
She whips around to face Malory. “You insolent, fake little-“
I restrain and pull back Winona, with a little struggle, while Malory skips off like a frantic antelope.
“Calm down,” I say quietly. “It’s okay. It hasn’t stained, I think she honestly just had water.”
Winona glares off at Malory and turns back around, lifting my tie. “Well we need to dry it properly, but you should be fine for now.”
She unconsciously straightens it and gives it a little tug before looking back up at me. “We’re going to dance.”
I laugh as she drags me out to the dance floor. “Please don’t take your anger out on my feet!”

Winona~
I find that it is much easier to fight the urge to punch someone when I am dancing. Trying to coordinate my footsteps takes some of my concentration, just enough to not give in to my anger and go beat up Malory.
"You're still mad," Orion says, his mouth turning up in a crooked smile.
"No," I say, knowing it's a lie. "I am completely calm. There is nothing in me that wants to go and pound Malory's face into the concrete and then make her wring out the tie into a cup and drink it. I am not furious, venemous, or irate."
Orion laughs and I smile slightly.
"I didn't know my tie would cause so much trouble," he chuckles.
I playfully slap his shoulder and we continue to twirl around the dance floor.
"It's not just the tie," I say. "It's the fact that she had to actually throw her drink in your face. That is downright rude, and all because she is angry that Rowan only asked her as a last resort and she had to steal someone else's date just so she could have something to feel good about."
"Well, I'm all dry now, aren't I?" he says.
"No, you still have a little bit of water on your cheek," I say, then reach up and brush it off with my thumb.
He tenses up slightly and I quickly drop my hand down to his shoulder and lower my head, trying to hide my flaming cheeks.
It's not that I was uncomfortable with Orion. We had all grown up together, so he and Rowan felt like my brothers at times. But now I felt like there was something more, and it added a new sense of self-awareness when I was around him and awkwardness when I did something small like brush some water off of his face.
The song ends and we break apart.
"I'm going to go get some punch," I say to Orion, then I walk off towards one of the food tables, not seeing if he follows.

Bomani ~
I'm quite surprised. These people manage to put on a festival the day after Catastrophe takes over their village. WOw.
Chatter is mostly uninteresting. Many people are shrieking about how cute blah blah is, and how puffy her dress is, and why is that skirt green?
I spend most of my time lounging around in quiet corners and eavesdropping on unsuspecting people. It's nice, really. Very peaceful. I should go to these things more often.
The food and drinks are good too.
I manage not to be noticed by anybody, and eventually I find my self on a trees branch, watching people. I watch a girl dump water in some boy's face-- Wait, I recognize that boy. Hes that Orion kid. Huh.
And, hey, that's the Winona girl dancing with him. I scan the crowd, and spot that Sera dancing with the farm boy. Rowan, I think.
Winona wanders off to the punch bowl. I glide down to meet her, landing square on the table. Winona glances up for a moment.
And thats the only true excitement I get that night.

Orion~
I consider just letting her go, but being the obnoxious prat I am, I skip up to her and smile.
“There’s no punch left, you goose,” I laugh.
She frowns and turns slightly red, smacking me on the arm. “Don’t call me that. You’re the goose. Not seeing where Malory was going with the drink.”
“You have a fair point, m’lady,” I snicker. “Perhaps I was a fool after all.”
“Perhaps is right,” she huffs.
But my expression turns slightly serious. “Did I embarrass you or something?”
She furrows her brows then suddenly she gets it. “Oh, no. I just...it was getting kinda cramped on the dance floor, and I don’t do well in small spaces.”
I smile slightly. “Okay.”
“Orion,” I hear Rowan’s voice call out.
I turn and see Rowan and my sister, walking arm in arm up to Winona and I.
“Rowan,” I say, and give him a greeting nod.
“I have an idea,” Rowan begins.
“Rowan!” Sera hisses, but adds a nervous laugh. “It’ll never work.”
“Oh?” he asks, with a smile as sly as a fox. He turns back to me with a mischievous glint in his eyes. “C’mon! The Fojert brothers played a prank last year, and not that they’re fighting the war, we should do it in memory of them.”
I raise an eyebrow, the corner of my mouth twitching up. “What do you have in mind?”
(March 25, 2018 - 5:16 am)
Um...did someone accidentally post under their CB name?

Winona~
I take one look at Rowan's mischievious grin and already I'm wary.
"What kind of prank?" Orion asks, his eyebrows raised. Already I can tell he's sold on the idea of one.
"Oh, you know, something simple," Rowan says, waving a hand around airily. "I first have to know whether or not you guys are willing to help."
"I'm in," Orion says. Then he turns to me. "What about you, Winona?"
I pause for a minute before answering.
"Sure. Just as long as it doesn't ruin my dress."
We all laugh, then Rowan leads us to a quiet corner where we can talk about the prank in private.
"So," he says, rubbing his hands together. "I was thinking that maybe we could do something involving the band."
He gestured to the orchestra that was playing dance music at the far end of the dance floor.
Orion made a disappionted sound.
"Crikey. I thought we could do something involving our favorite little couple."
He pointed to the dance floor where Jolius and Malory were dancing. Her head was on his shoulder, and they both had dreamy looks on their faces.
Sera gagged.
"Oh ew."
"Well," Orion said as we all turned back to him. "What do we want to do?"
I'm leaving this open to you Moonshadow because the prank is supposed to be Rowan's idea.
