It's a regular

It's a regular summer evening. You have your window open, and a faint but cool breeze blows in. Suddenly, the wind blows harder and colder, and a number of dried leaves and a white envelope blows in. You bend down to pick up the envelope and find, to your surprise, that it is closed with a medieval-looking wax seal. The seal bears an emblem of a dragon, curved around a tree. Inside is a letter.

Greetings, CBer:

If you are reading this letter, you have been invited to an exclusive trip. Our organization has found disturbances in an unknown mountain range. We mean to seek out this disturbance and study it; it appears to be a living species. Your assistance is crucial to this project. Though it is entirely at your discretion, we hope you choose to come. If you do so, please fill out the form attatched and leave it on your windowsill with this invitation. Regards,

Lady Saga Tremayne

As you open the envelope to look for the form, you find two pieces of paper. One is folded neatly and seems to be the same cream-colored paper that the invitation was written on. The other is slightlly crumpled and is made of a different paper. It's darker, and bears a water-stain in one corner. Of course, you open the crumpled one. It appears to be completely blank, but as you turn it this way and that, you notice faint and hastily scribbled lettering, reading: Help, CBer! You and the others must go to Lady Tremayne's "expedition," but you must only pretend to follow her orders. What she intends to trap and train is a wild beast, and one that must be protected. I am disguised, but I will give you a message when the time comes.

As soon as you finish reading the note, it crumbles away to dust in your hands. The other paper is a the form:

Okay that's it. Sorry it was long! I'll post my character a little later. The first, oh, 12 or 13 posts will get in (the number might change)

*Disclaimer: this is my first rp, so I'm probably going to make mistakes. I have literally no idea what I'm doing (I don't even know if this rp is going to succeed), so correct me if necessary.*

Jinx smiled horribly. He could feel the anxiety in the car, and it was all about him. Yes, his roar was truly awful, that's why he used it. To stir things up and get a little excitement in his life. He had fought Lady Tremayne before; she was no match for him. He sighed happily and examined his claws. Then let off a laugh closely resembling his growl. Quietly so the scared children under him wouldn't be more afraid. He didn't want to scare them. He wanted to humiliate the Lady and her circle of scientists.

Turned this into a completely different thing? Hehehe...........

Um, I'd have us get to our destination, but I have no idea what it is. Can I make it up? Is it more of a camping thing, or will there be, I don't know, some towering mansion tucked neatly away in the woods? Sorry, I've never been in an rp before so I have no idea what I'm doing, really...

I was also debating whether I should push the RP forward but I wasn’t sure what Evergreen wanted.  A towering mansion is what I was thinking.

Twilight dissipated to a velvety abyss along with the last bit of hope that had once lingered in the car. Megumi's muscles ached from sitting still so long - the only way she could do it was to tense every muscle in her body. To make it worse, nausea lashed at her stomach, her breath was shaky and unsteady, and she felt disconnected from herself, as if she were watching herself from above - all symptoms of the panic that pushed at her throat.

Suddenly, gasps rang out from every corner of the car, and it was instantly clear why - they had entered a clearing in the woods! It was far too neat to be a natural glen.

A mingling of sweet smells wafted into the cat. What were they, Megumi wondered? Though she didn't voice her question, Amethyst Dreamchaser's incredible nose soon discerned that they were "angel's trumpets, midnight candy, night-blooming jasmine, and night-scented orchid." Megumi nodded.

The car was now filled with clamour. Almost everyone was wondering vocally what was going on, especially Sally and Emekittycon k. Megumi wondered too, while only in her head.

Wait, what was that in the distance? Something wide, dark, and vey, very tall was silhouetted agains a black night sky. The car slowed and parked. "Well, everyone, get out. We're here." Lady Tremayne's silky voice was touched with traces of secrecy, slyness, and superiority.

Slinking out of the car, Megumi was extremely grateful that she could move. Lady Tremaynes's held a bright lantern that illuminated... a stone wall. A heavy oak door creaked open, and Lady Tremayne turned on a temporarily blinding light. As soon as Megumi could see again, the light illuminated a fully furnished living area, complete with a fireplace and a table full of food. Megumi's attention wasn't drawn to that, though - it was captured fully by an open door through which could be seen hundreds, maybe even thousands, of books!

- Trillium -

Lady Tremayne ushered them through the grand doors.  Once they were all through the doors slowly creaked closed.

Trillium stopped in her tracks, her eyes widened.  Her leather satchel slipped off her shoulder and landed painfully on her foot.  She winced but continued to stare.  She had never seen so many books in the same place in her life.

The elaborately carved shelves stretched up until they faded into the darkness that gathered at the top of the library.  Movable ladders were set against the shelves.  Scattered about the library were tables and chairs with small lit lamps that created little pools of light in the dusky room.

But the amazement Trillium felt was not for the library’s grandness but for the books.  The books filled every shelf.  New books, old books. Leather bound books, paperbacks, hardbacks.  Thin books, fat books.  Plain books and books with gilt lettering on the binding.

”Ding, ding, ding!”, the sharp sound of a bell cut sharply through the silence.  Startled out of their awe everyone’s head turned.  Lady Tremayne’s hand drifted down from the bell striker.  As the ringing dissipated a scuffling sound came from one of the hallways that extended from the dining room.  A red headed boy of about 13 appeared.  “Antony, take our guests to their room”, Lady Tremayne gestured to the group, “see they are made comfortable”.  “B-but — we want to see the library!” Em stammered, her voice tinged with dissapointment.  Heads nodded.  “You will”, Lady Tremayne smiled, “later, now you must follow Antony”.

Antony bowed his head in her direction, then motioning to the group to follow him he walked quickly down another hallway.  They hurried after him.  Antony paused in a bend of the hallway and waited for them to catch up.  Once they did he turned and continued quickly down the hallway.

No one spoke and the only sound was the soft cloping of shoes on the hard wood floor.  Wall sconces dimly lit the hall and showed dark doors that were set in the pinkish walls.

They reached a steep, unlit, spiraling stairway. At the bottom Antony paused and removed aa lit lantern from a hook in the wall.  Holding the lantern high, so as to cast as much light as possible over the group.  They began to climb. It was tricky following now, no sconces lit the steep stairs and the lantern cast very little light.

Trillium reached out her hand and let her fingers run along the rough stone wall as she climbed.  They kept climbing, spiraling upward.  Their pace was slower now, and the sound of heavy breathing echoed off the walls.

Just when they felt they couldn’t go any farther, they reached the top.  The stairs ended at a plain wood door.  Antony reached up, opened the door and stepped aside letting them in.

Panting, they stepped through the door and looked around.  Eight bed were placed in a circular room. Each had curtains that went around it for privacy.  At the side of each bed was a smll desk with a lamp on it, and a chair.  At the foot was a dresser.  A small candle lantern and a box of matches were set on top of each dresser.  Dark red curtains were drawn across the windows and a few tapestrys were hung on the walls.  A small door led to, Trillium assumed, the bathroom.

Antony stepped into the doorway and spoke, for the first time.  “If you need any thing, ring that”, he pointed to a bell by his head, “and come down soon, Lady Tremayne dislikes waiting”.  With that he turned and shut the door with a soft click.  The sound of his footsteps faded.

They glanced about for a moment.  Then, Trillium broke the silence, “well, we’d better get settled”.  Her voice squeaked a little from lack of use.  She walked to a bed by a window, set her satchel down and slung her violin case off her shoulder.  The rest followed.  Setting down their bags and unpacking the contents.

A little later Belle spoke, “everyone done?”.  A chorus of “yes” went around the room.  “Might as well go down then”.  Belle lit the lantern from her dresser.  The sound of matches being struck filled the room as the others lit their lanterns.

They started down the stairs.  Small circles of light in the darkness that pressed around them.
