Chatterbox: Inkwell

Historical RP!

Historical RP!

Pretend for a minute that George Washington, "The Father of Our Country" was corrupt. That a mysterious person from the 3000s built a time machine and used it to carry complex weapons from the 31st century back to the 1700s for George Washington to use for his army so they could take over the world. That the same person then kidnapped you from you home in whichever time period you're from and dumped you, too, in the 1700's--and now you have to stop a world war or the past and future will never be the same again.

This is not historically accurate whatsoever, I guess, but then it wouldn't be fun!

Sooo...whatever time period you pick for your character, make sure you read your history so you don't make mistakes!

...And I guess that's it for description of this roleplay, feel free to ask questions or whatever. Only one character per time period of each country, but otherwise no limit on the number of people that can join. And no more than two charries per person.

I reserve a charrie in the 1930's United States, The Great Plains, during the Great Depression.  Normally I don't reserve, but I really would like this time period and I cannot make the charrie sheet right now.

I've got a couple of writing things right now, but I'll join.

Name: Clara Silverton

Age: 16

Appearance: Since Clara came from a fairly weathly Union family, she is used to wearing this: bloomers, chemise, stockings held up with garters, corset, crinoline, camisole, under petticoat, hoop skirt, over petticoats, bodice and actual skirt, plus button up boots. Her hair was usually in a bun, covered by a snood. Clara has dark hair (about waist-length, very thick) and brown steely eyes. Strong arms and legs, so best at archery and climbing, not great at sprinting, but good long-distance running endurance.

Personality: Sharp-tongued and quick-witted. A bit of a tomboy. For Women's rights, and doesn't particularily like what she has to wear. Not exactly "ladylike".

Backstory: Her two older brothers and father are away at war, and one of her younger sister is ill with small pox. She has two older brothers, two younger brothers, and one younger sister. (In order; John, Peter, Clara, Charles, William and little Agnes.) She is forced to learn sewing and cooking.

Other: Time period is Civil War, America. Anybody want to ship with her?

Personality: Margaret is very timid, shy, and fearful.  She is skillful at making her fear and shyness go away when she has to make tough choices.  She likes adventures.

Historical Period and Country: Margaret is from the 1930's, America, The Great Plains

Backstory:  Margaret has a mother, an older sister,, and two younger brothers.  Her father left them when he lost his job, and couldn't provide income for the family.  Her mother is getting quite ill from the dust in the Great Plains, and she has to struggle to provide neccessites for the whole family.

(June 26, 2017 - 11:27 am)

Name: Aileen O'Connor (known as 'Compass')

Age:15

Appearance: Shoulder length, choppy, uneven brown hair that she cuts herself. She often covers this with a grey newsie hat, and either leaves her hair untucked and braided, or pushes her hair up into her hat. She has piercing eyes, that appear to be a greyish/bluish, like a stormy ocean. She is short, small and skinny, with pale skin that freckles heavily. She typically wears a faded, see-through women's skirt which was too long for her, so she cut off the bottom, and now it is frayed and as uneven as her hair. It was also too wide, so she straps it up with a pair of faded red suspenders. Underneath the skirt, she has on a pair of boys trousers. Often, if she needs to run or climb, she hitches the skirt up, and can move freely. She also wears a girl's white shirt with buttons in the back, that happens to fit her (but only just). She wears this with the sleeves rolled up in the summer. At night or in the winter she wears an oversized men's coat that is brown. She keeps the edges of the sleeves rolled up, but it still looks comically large on her. On her feet she has a pair of brown oversized boy's boots, with mismatched laces. She carries a brown rucksack that holds all of her necessities; including her newsie hat (when needed), an old copy of the Bible, some drawings her friend 'Grin' drew for her, a long piece of faded cloth, a spyglass, a slingshot that her 'brother' (they have pretended to be brother and sister for most of their life, and have adopted each other as such) 'Spot' gave her, a harmonica from her friend 'Race' and a compass, from which her nickname is derived.

Personality: She is very opinionated, and is extremely tough for all her years on the streets. She is very much a tomboy, but yearns for female friends, because she sometimes feels like none of her guy friends understand her. She has quite a lot of hubris, and sometimes throws herself into fights she cannot win, and therefore gets beat up often because she is so small. She is extremely loyal to her friends, and has a strong motherly instinct for young children because she has a dark spot in her past. She loves music, and is good at singing and playing her harmonica, but knows she'll never be able to perform because she has no formal training.

Historical period and country: She is from America, but immigrated from Ireland when she was five. She lives in New York in 1899. (You all saw this coming...)

Backstory: After immigrating from Ireland when she was five with her little one year old brother, her parents died when she was seven. Because she had no place to go, she hit the streets with her brother. However, after she was arrested and put in a kids jail, she was not allowed to go get her brother, and after she escaped from prison, she found his dead body lying in an alley. Then, she met a boy around her same age named Aedan Conlon, and they decided to become newsies and pretend to be brother and sister, so they couldn't be separated. She made some other friends, including a boy named Antony Higgins, who was a newsie, but called himself 'Racetrack' or 'Race'. They became best friends, but now into their teen years they are starting to fall in love with each other. Another was a boy named 'Grin' Boyle, who is 11, and she feels a great need to protect him because he reminds her of her younger brother. He is a talented artist. She also has a friend called 'Boots' McAlleen, who is biracial, but takes on the appearance of his African American mother. This makes it difficult for him, but he's 13, and Aileen firmly believes that he can hold his own.

Other: Anyone can crush on her, but she won't like them back (sorry!) because she likes her friend Race.

Question for Leafpool: So...this looks like a really cool RP. (I loooooove history and historical fiction, and I've never done that type of RP before.) However, I've already joined the Sea Somg RP (lots of commmitment to that one) and the Hamilton RP (not sure about that one yet, commitment wise). And my ski lodge, and I'm doing a bit of poetry.

That was a long winded introduced but my question is...how much commitment is required for this RP? Does it depend on the character or the number of people or just is what it is? Would you like me to join? I'm not pinpointing my questions but er, uh, just...general response to my thoughts I guess?

Well, I'd certainly want you to stick with the roleplay and stay dedicated to it, but you don't have to post too often. Maybe only once a week or so, although it would depend on how fast the roleplay goes. I know for me, I hate having to read through dozens of roleplay posts before I can write. But yes, it would be great if you could join!
