It's fine! I am glad we have a controller.

Thero~

I lost sight of the loner. Umph. We went into Fairen village. I pickpocket some old ladies, and a high stat captain. i turn into a shadow, and grab some food.

Terra~

I ran through the forest, ducking under branches and tripping over birds. i could hear noise at the village of Fairen. Thero, the captain of blacks, was making trouble.

Okay guys, we need more peeps in packs!

Thanks! It's just that there was nobody else with the Controller type, so I had no context with which to determine overpowered or not.

~Aeriel~

You see, many people think there are no shadows in Fairen. It's a thoroughly white town: white corn, white linen clothes for the commoners, white granite cobbles in the streets, white marble facades on the manor and white-skinned nobles like me who live inside. Those people have surely never seen Fairen at night, however. Being in the Shaded Provinces, so close to the Twilight Wall, attacks by malevolent shadows are far more frequent, and there has always been a strict curfew. Outside the pale, wavering circles of light cast by the street-lanterns, there is more darkness in a single street than in the entire town during the day. I know this because I have seen it, and experienced it firsthand. True, I may be the younger Duchess Aeriel Tessana of Fairen, but that does not mean I am some spoiled sissy who would rather sit on her rear sipping tea than make a rope out of ivy and lower herself out her bedroom window. (Which, by the way, I have done many times.)

The presence- and, indeed, the abundance- of shadows in the area of Fairen was what shocked me so when Father announced over lunch this afternoon, "It has been decided that your party will take the overland route to Aldrian tomorrow." I gasped, nearly choking on a bite of lamb quiche. "But why, Father? The overland route goes straight through Thornwood! Think of the shadows! Wouldn't it just be safer to take the lake route as planned?" He sighed. "Aeriel, I learned this morning that the sailing-barge I had commissioned to take you from Sukien to Bjoran was attacked by vandals last night. Her hull was smashed in several places, and her sails were torn and tattered beyond repair. The kind people of Sukien haven't time to ready another barge or fix that one." I finished the last of my quiche and asked, "Does Sukien know if the vandals were actually shadows?" His face turned grim. "No, or at least the courier who delivered the message didn't know. All I could get out of the lad was that the Sukien constabulatory had been investigating the scene since sunrise, when the damage was discovered." I hoped he couldn't see my fear as I straightened up and said with false bravado, "Then tell the grooms to make ready a carriage. We will leave as soon as we can." Father opened his mouth as if to offer a retort, but seemed to reconsider. "You know, Aeriel, that may not be such a bad idea. I had hoped that if you left at the crack of dawn tomorrow, you would be out of Thornwood by dusk, but now I see that is unlikely. You may even reach Nerien in time to sleep there, if we make haste!" He jumped up from his seat, napkin fluttering to the floor. "Kensing! Libardon!" he called to the two manservants standing at attention by the door. "Go and alert the grooms that a single-person coach is to be made ready for the younger Duchess Aeriel as fast as it can be done. Tell Captain Merim to organize a squadron of guards and appropriate mounts. She will leave as soon as possible!"

~later~

The little carriage bounced and rolled along the rocky, wooded path. True to their word, the grooms had been ready quickly, and I had departed Fairen within an hour of lunch. We were now jouncing along through the Thornwood, watching the light around us fade from leaf green to sunset orange for a few minutes, then to navy blue, midnight purple, and finally, to black. It was night. Through the wooden walls of my coach, I could hear the muffled voices of the six guards behind me, conversing in low, urgent tones. The lanterns on the outside of the coach had been lit, so at least everyone could see a little, but it was clear that Nerien was nowhere nearby. Still, there was only one road this size through Thornwood, so we plowed steadily forward. I heard a hint of a breeze in the trees and bushes all around, a mild swooshing as countless leaves rubbed together. I thought nothing of it at first, until it began to grow steadily louder. Now and then I heard a twig snap. I didn't know what was so unnerving me. It was just wind, wasn't it?

And that's when I heard the telltale thunk of an arrow striking my carriage.

Ethyi pulled herself out of the snow, whistling for DarkDove . DarkDove landed on her hand. Where am I ? Ethyi wondered. Where did the shifter-girl go ? Should I go back to the village ? She limped back and forth, pacing, thinking. No. I'm not going to give up. I'm going to find out who shoot those arrows. She limped back toward where she had found the shadow-horse , and where the arrows had been shot. She thought she'd found the right tree, the one she'd been hiding behind, but there weren't any arrows there. She looked closer, and discovered that their were holes where the arrows had periced the trees, as though someone had yanked them out. Who ? She spotted a line of footprints and began following them .

Duvessa panted as she stopped running.

It must've been the black pack. They hate it when somebody's on their territory, and me being stupid, I decided to stay longer than I was welcomed to. Duvessa sighed. She was always wandering, never staying in the same place for long. She wished she had a place to go home to. The village wasn't an option. They feared shadow people, and often drove them out when they found out. Going to the black pack wasn't a good thing to do either. If she joined now, they would think she was a spy. And Duvessa had never found the silver pack's territory before. Duvessa sighed again, and continued through the snow. She was going to the valley. Where shadows are welcomed, but pay a price.

Kyra bound her leg tightly and limped slightly, not good! She'd have to find a goood place to hide while she healed, maybe set some traps for food. As she scouted the area looking for a hideaway she kept hearing noises; strange, it wasn't like her to let her imagination get away from her! Biting her lip she crawled into a small underground cave just in time.

Thero~

I chuckled as the sassy little princess made her way outside of town. I didn't know were she was going, but I followed. I whistled for my pack mates, which sneaked behind me. One of our foolish, however, shot a arrow at the carriage, making the girl turn around. I frowned, but managed to hit the girl on the head so she wouldn't scream. I carried her out of the carriage, and went back to our camp.

Terra~

I saw Thero take the girl into their base. I growled. This is not gonna be good. I went back to camp and told the news. Lots of people cried with dispair, others growling and wishing they didn't have to save her.

Hellack~

I sat on a log around a fire in the middle of silver camp, eating deer meat. Child shadows we sitting as well, huddling close together as I told them the legend. The legend of the silver pack was how in the beggining, the silver queen and the black king were at peace. But when they both discovered an all-powerful relic called the relminaw, the two beings and their kingdoms fell into war. The relminaw wasn't won by either of them. It chose a winner itself. And legend has it, it chose silver. In his rage, the black king stole the relminac. But the relminac, not being held by the true victor, threw itself into darkness, and was never seen again. The silver queen got revenge on the black king, and then vice versa, each battle wearing down the kingdoms into packs, and the two once again fell nto war, this time with no relminac to stop it.

I was just getting to the part where the relminac was lost forever, when a silver transformer ran up to the fire. "The black pack!" he yelled. "They're at it again!"

Duvessa entered the valley, her ears swiveling at the many whispers she heard.

In order to live, you must give. The single sentence grew louder and louder, when suddenly a giant creature leaped in front of Duvessa. She reared up in shock, and making due with the position she was in, she struck a hoof at the creature. It fell to the ground. She kicked it repeatedly, and stomped on it, till it turned into a mangle corpse.

You showed us you are brave all by yourself. But are you brave when you have to save an elf? the voices whispered louder and louder, the same as before, until Duvessa heard a scream. She ran and weaved between the trees, until she found another creature, baring its teeth at what looked like an elf. Duvessa's eyes narrowed, and stood by, watching the creature devour the elf.

Ah, you have been here before; you know our tricks, we are like ticks. Small, and sly, but perhaps we are big, and we lie. Now that we know, o' shadow soul, that you have been here before, we invite you to see all, and perhaps join us for tea at the hall. The voices grew softer and softer, until it was nothing but a soft sound in the wind. Duvessa prodded the ground once, before moving on. She trotted on, pass some trees, and past the river, until she came upon what she traveled here for. The trees were tightly woven together, blocking out the sky, and hiding what was beyond. Duvessa made her way through, until she came upon it. The clearing was very small, but it glowed blue, the blue light coming from the blue stone in the center.

" The Darken Stone," Duvessa whispered.

A pack of dark will descend. A pack of silver will ascend. Perhaps it is the other way around, but one or the other will find what is found.

The voices whispered, glowing yellow eyes dancing around in the trees that surrounded the Darken Stone. Duvessa swallowed. One of the packs will die. The other will live. And one of them will find the stone, in which Duvessa had already found. One pack will either descend eternal darkness, or eternal light. Either way, one wasn't going to make it out alive.

Thero~

I told my pack to put her in the jail. She might be useful. I sighed. Nothing much as happened since... Since the silver pack leader died... By my hands, of course. I had became leader, which over joyed me. Now the silver pack is in dispair, and still hasn't chosen a leader. I transformed into a shadow wolf, and sneaked into silver camp. Terra, that pesky little brat, told everyone that I "stole the gentle princess, so they must bring justice". Justice! Gentle! Call that little brat gentle?! It covered my mouth so I wouldn't laugh. They must have heard the muffled chuckles, as that silver pack "wizard" looked at me. I growled and whistled for my pack mates. They came and of course, we went into our daily battle.

Terra~

I pushed away the other silver and explained to Hellack that the blacks had stole the to-be captain. But he seemed to not pay attention, as he saw something else. I heard a growl and all the blacks came forward. Another battle insued, not unlike the others we had millions of times. Ah, we need excitment! Excitment is the key! But alas, we have none. None to insue in the boredem that passes through the packs. The wind whistled in my ears, whistling as if to excite me. Gone with you wind! You don't help! I snared as a black pounced on me, and thoughts grew back to this boring, normal, forest.

Ooh! So many awesome plot developments! :D

~Aeriel~

I came to slowly, almost drunkenly. My mind felt like it was wrapped in sheep's wool; even thinking, let alone remembering or reasoning, was arduous work. What had happened? Where was I? And why did the back of my head hurt so much? Then, a sudden flash of memory: the journey. Nightfall. The odd breeze, which must have been enemies approaching. The arrow shot. Someone entering through the coach door. And then my memory ended in a brief burst of pain. I had been knocked out! I opened my eyes, as slowly as if my eyelids were weighted down with sand. Looking down, I was sitting on bare, hard-packed earth, my wrists tied painfully tight with a leather thong. Looking up, I saw moonlight filtering through the canvas roof of a tent, the rest of which was hidden in shadow. Still nighttime, I thought. When shadows become strong, when they run free. I suppressed a shudder in case anyone was watching from the darkened side of the tent. It would not do to appear weak in front of my captors.

My woozy thoughts turned to escape. Was it possible? Could I get my hands untied? Were there any weapons in this tent? Then I noticed that one of the two tent flaps was open, and a leg, muscular and clad in hides, showed through it. Whoever had captured me had posted a guard outside the tent. Death and destruction! I wouldn't be able to sneak out. My first pang of pure, abject terror came when I saw the tent flap and guard's leg swing aside. They were replaced by a wolf made of pure darkness, striding into the tent with fluid grace. A shadow. I quickly lay down, hoping to feign continued unconsciousness, but the move came too late. The black wolf stretched itself tall into a formless column, then resolved into the shape of a man. He looked young, lithe and strong, with all the scars and hard edges of a wild life. His clothes were tattered black linen, with high leather boots, and I noted several knives and daggers strapped on in various places. He clearly meant to intimidate me, and as far as I am concerned, it's working.

The shadow-man strolls across the tent to me, kneeling down so as to be at my level. His fingers, rough from work and cold as ice, caress my chin. "So, the little lady decides to pay me a visit," he says. His voice is utterly seductive, as smooth and sweet as golden honey. "Do you know, by chance, where you were going?" Through my fear, I just manage to squeak out, "Aldrian." His lip curls. "Oh, that human town," he snarls, pronouncing the word human like it was something slimy he found on the bottom of his boot. "I thought, perchance, you were going somewhere...ah...closer to here? Like another camp similar to this one?" I am too shocked, confused, and petrified to reply, even to nod yes or no. Apparently, he doesn't take this well. With frightening swiftness, he leaps backward, and before I know it, there's a knife in his hand. "You lie," he hisses softly. "You were not going north out of the wood. You were going to the silver camp!" He begins creeping toward me, slowly and noiselessly, his knife pointed straight at my chest. I have no doubt as to his intentions now. He means to kill me, right here and now. In a few seconds it will all be over. What can I do? My heart is beating like an insane drummer-boy on his drum, and I've never felt so scared in my life. So, like the flustered fool I am, I do the only thing I can think of that has worked in my noble past: I look him straight in the eyes, and desperately yell, "Stop!"

And, to my utter amazement, he stops.

Actually, the shadow doesn't so much stop as find himself suddenly unable to move. I can see veins cording out in his neck and calves as he strains to take another step. But no matter how hard he tries, he can't do it. He can't come any closer to me, and when he realizes this, his darkly handsome features contort into a look of absolute hatred. He clearly hates the paralysis (anyone would), but why is his fury directed at me? Then it hits me, and I almost laugh aloud. He stopped because I told him to. I don't know why or how, but when I shouted at him to stop, he had to do it. I can feel something connecting me to him, an invisible, intangible bond forged of my will alone. Unbidden, a flare of hope blossoms. Maybe, if I can control one shadow person to make him subjugate to my commands, I can control more. And maybe if I can control enough of them at once, I can escape this place!

Duvessa galloped out of the Valley of Shadows, and bounded through the deep snow.

I found the stone, and now one of the other packs is going to find it, then they are going to have the biggest battle of their lives. Maybe I could stop it... But how?! Duvessa's eyes dilated to let more light in for it was night, and also because fear shot through her.

You could die any day now, because you made the wrong move. Well let's hope we make the right moves and live. Duvessa kept plowing through the snow, until a little light from a small camp came into her line of sight. She trotted forward, to get a closer look. That girl... She was the princess. She was dressed in elegeant, but normal traveling clothes, and she was.. She was making the man in front of her sit down! Duvessa watched as the man sat down, growling is head off. The princess looked up, her eyes widening with fear, as several men came into view, probably coming back from hunting or something. Duvessa smelled the blood on them. They were having a fight, and came back to recruit the leftovers of the camp. The princess's eyes narrowed, and she raised a hand at the men.

She can't take them all at once, and it's obvious this is the shadow pack, and she needs to escape. Well that's where the mysterious shadow horse leaps in and saves the day. Duvessa smirked in her mind, and leaped into the clearing. The girl let out a yelp of shock, as the midnight colored friesian reared up. Duvessa's hoof came down and hit one of the men. The others looked down at the man, then back at the horse, anger flaring in their eyes.

Time to go! Duvessa turned to the princess, grabbed some of her clothing in her teeth, picked the princess off the ground and ran. The men yelled as they chased after Duvessa.

" Let go of me! I command you to let go!" the princess yelled, struggling. Duvessa smirked.

" As you wish your majesty." As Duvessa opened her mouth, the princess was dropped onto the snow. Duvessa shifted, and looked down at the princess.

" A thank you would be very much appreciated," Duvessa scowled, and started to stomp her way through the snow.

" Thank the gods then. For they led me to a person, who seems important." A voice that wasn't the princess sounded out. Duvessa whipped around, and standing a few feet away from her and the princess, stood a man. Thero.

Omg, I just want to look at his face when that happens!

Thero~

I know that she is a controller. A CONTROLLER. One of the most powerful ones, keeper being the least powerful. But, as my hatred turned into a sly smile, I knew how to deal with this. Controllers can do thoughts, but it seems like she doesn't know how to do it, to her disadvantage. She could make it so that I wouldn't be able to turn into a wolf. As if I turn into a wolf, the paralyis doesn't do anything. I chuckle and turn into wolf. Turning back, I grip her neck. "You are LYING. No villagers I know are controllers! Villagers are helpless, needless little scrum that have no power. So, of course, you are silver." The girl gripped in fear, trying to send me moveless again, but I was ready for it. She spoke. "I am a villager... Please..." She pleaded. And I must admit, she does sound like a villager... Is she a villager?! I thought about this for a moment. It is possible.. But truly rare. But then, she is a controller, so what do you expect? She was a villager. Villager. Which I took to my advantage. "So, it seems like you are a villager, and a shadow. Rare, I suppose. Controller is also rare. I think I will take you as a black pack fighter."

Ethyi followed the footprints deeper and deeper into the woods. Finally, she reached a thorny bush. She craweled in. DarkDove flew in after her.

Sitting in a corner was an old lady . She was holding a bow of some sort of shining metal and aiming the arrows at the wall. She turned when Ethyi walked in.

She smiled at Ethyi . " I want to show you something . " She pulled out a round, golden coin, with a symbol in blue on it. Timidly, Ethyi touched it . It burned her hand, leaving a shiny silver mark .

" It approves, " The lady whispered. Then, briskly , " Bring this to the silvers. Tell them it's part of  the relminaw, and that they must get the Darken stone to complete it. " Slowly , she began to fade away .

" This is too werid, " Ethyi tells her . " Why should I do as you say ? "

" Because of the villages . "

Good enough for me, Ethyi thinks. She accepts the stone thinking, I wanted adventure, and boy, I'm getting it !

~ Later ~

Boy, I'm stupid. I ran into the forest just to see a shadow, and now I'm tramping around looking for some silvers, wherever they may be, and give them a part of the- Relminaw ... ? What is this thing, anyway .

She stares at the trees . Where is she ?

Distantly, she hears yells, howls , and screams. She hesists, then sprints off toward the noises.

Behind a tree, in front of her, a girl watches the fight. She has greenish hair, strangly. Wondering which if this is where the silvers are , she taps the girl on the shoulder . She spins, green eyes flashing, knife drawn . Ethyi screams, and runs away , right into the battlefeild.

Oh yeah, who's going to get the Relminaw-part ?! Please post soon, I'm dieing of suspense !!!!

Duvessa realized that Thero was gripping the princess.

" Let go of her!" Duvessa snarled at Thero.

" Why should I?" the wolf growled, his eyes flashing mischieviously.

" I know where the Darken Stone is." And with that, Duvessa ran away in her shadow-horse form, wondering if telling him would save the princess and the world, or not.
