So... Hot! It

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

So... Hot! It

So... Hot! It broke a hundred today, and our house has no a/c. It's like a sauna outside, and I bet you could fry eggs on the sidewalk. Which is crazy, because we live in Washington. The lowest it's getting tonight is 70! Can you believe it? So... Does anyone have any suggestions on how to "beat the heat"? Besides swimming in the pool?

Fans. Shade. Cool showers. Drink lots of water. Sit still and read a good book. Wear a wet bathing suit all day. Eat a popsicle. Pray for clouds and rain. Watch a wintry movie with lots of snow and ice. . . .

 Good luck,

Old Cricket

It's been 'really hot' lately in Maine!!! :) I mean, right now, it's almost 82 degrees!!! :):) I guess that's not too hot compared to 100, but for Mainahs', that's wicked hot, so I'm chilling (hahaha a pun!!) in the basement, because it's a lot cooler (hahaha another pun!!) down here. (Puns make me happy...) Really, though, it's only 70 down here. When I go about halfway up the stairs, a sudden rush of heat hits me in the face, and I turn around and go back downstairs. :):) So I'll probably be here a while...

Oh, and, we opened up the ceiling fan last night which cools down the whole house... This was the first time we've opened it in several years, because, the last time we used it, bats flew through it from the attic and straight into my bedroom... I have to remember to keep my door shut... Ugh... :)

According to my friends in NJ, it hailed yesterday too. Half of Kathy's trees were knocked down... very cool.

Hmm. Definitely eat a lot of ice cream. Actually, that's a good idea no matter what the weather, really. And libraries usually have air conditioning. Spend a lot of time at the library. Also good advice whatever the weather.

I can't imagine hail that big.  (meaning big enough to knock down trees) The biggest hail we've ever gotten, as far as I know, is a large pea.  Not kidding!  :)

Oh, I forgot that you're on vacation, Mary W.  Maybe you could go across the river and see stuff in Alton.  Like the museum about Robert Wadlow.  You can also see the statue of him and sit in the statue of the giant chair.  I sat on it before!  If you do go across the river you can see where Abraham Lincoln and (first name here, I forgot.  Uggh, I seem to forget words and names sometimes.  I forgot the word cucumber and said camel instead) Douglas had a debate!  You also could see the MkPike mansion. The MkPike mansion is supposed to be the most haunted place in Alton (if you believe in ghosts).  And I think Alton is supposed to be the most haunted place in America.  I think.  I have NO idea if ghosts are real.  It would be SO cool if you did go across the river and see the MkPike Mansion   It would be SO COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's Stephen Douglas, Meadow.

Cool, bats flew through your cieling fan!!! The only place where bats live near my house is in the bat house my mom put on the side of the house. There are no bats in my attic. All there is in my attic is books an' shoes, an' clothes, an' other stuff. A lot of other stuff. I have a cieling fan, too. We open it up almost every night. because outside it's sixty degrees. And inside is seventy or eighty. I LOVE cieling fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, it's kind of cool, but I'm now completely scared of bats and probably always will be. :) My parakeet escaped yesterday, and she has dark feathers, so when she flew around the house she looked like a bat!! I got so freaked out!! :) (Don't worry, we caught he, although she headed straight for the window, which had a screen in it. I think she's been planning her escape for ages) :)

A bat once flew into our garage.  It was about three inches long, and cute in a freaky way.  :)

In Nevada, it can get super hot, especially come August. At least it's dry heat, though. Old Cricket's advice is good, especially the wet bathing suit. It makes it hard to find a place to sit down if you don't want to soak your mom's chairs, :P but it helps more than you would think.
