So... Hot! It

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

So... Hot! It

So... Hot! It broke a hundred today, and our house has no a/c. It's like a sauna outside, and I bet you could fry eggs on the sidewalk. Which is crazy, because we live in Washington. The lowest it's getting tonight is 70! Can you believe it? So... Does anyone have any suggestions on how to "beat the heat"? Besides swimming in the pool?

Fans. Shade. Cool showers. Drink lots of water. Sit still and read a good book. Wear a wet bathing suit all day. Eat a popsicle. Pray for clouds and rain. Watch a wintry movie with lots of snow and ice. . . .

 Good luck,

Old Cricket

To Da top, thread!!!!!!!

Old Cricket said my main suggestions.  I like to sit in the shade.... swim.... drink.... stand in front of a fan and moan... you get the picture.  :)  Also, have your parents take you somewhere that DOES have a/c -the grocery store, even the car, (if it has a/c), is better than the house!  I have no a/c either as u can tell.  I'm sleeping downstairs... not in a basement becuz I don't have one... with a fan blowing on my face.  And I also use a cold, wet washcloth to put on my forehead.  I sound pretty desperate don't I??

Think snow and ice, R~D~!

(Sorry about big font. I hit something by accident and don't know how to undo it!)

Hee hee.

I don't have a/c either, but as I said, if you keep the house closed, it should stay relatively cool.  At least compared to outside.

R~D~, we have a basement, but it's not insulated, so it's often warmer in there in the summer than the rest of the house.  (it doesn't go underground, it's on ground level.  The rest of the house is about a foot up.  You know, if you think about it, my house has FIVE stories, if you include the basement, half level, and attic.  hmm...)

I am probably the most heat-intolerant person in the world, so I sympathize. Take all Old Cricket's advice. And do something you like; I feel psychologically better when I'm doing something I like even if it's hot.

My summer's been pretty mild, which is unusual for the place where I live.

Old cricket said most of the suggestions.

Lena, it's been a mild summer for the place where I live, too. It's (I'm just guessing) 70 something to 90 something this year. Once it was 100 degrees. We have a/c. That day my dad turned it on, I didn't really want him to turn it on because I wasn't really hot. i wan't even sweating. But he stil turned it on. We rarly use the a/c. we normally just go into the basement. There is a lot of stuff to do in the basement. I'm in the basement right now. when i'm in my room I'm in the basement. And now i have to run out the door with autumnand jump in something.

Ugh! We had a really hot day here a few

days ago. It was supposedly the "hottest

day of July" that we've had this year. I

went swimming on that day, but other than

that I would just do what everyone else said.

We have air conditioning! :D I kinda feel sorry for you. Did you know all the motels are booked because people are going there to sleep because they have air conditioning?

It hailed yesterday. No, I'm not kidding it *hailed*.

As to "beating the heat" I would suggest wrapping an ice pack/plastic bag with icepacks in a towel or something and sitting on/next to it. Or find a sprinkler/hose/giant puddle and jump in it until your clothes are fully soaked (don't change afterwards either).

Well, I would imagine there is ice in deep space.  :)

Good suggestions.  :)

Thank you for all the suggestions! I am going swimming today, so I'm glad for that. Also I found a hand fan, and those things actually work. :)

You think it's hot in Washington? You have no idea how hot it is in Texas! We would probably die without AC! Okay, that's an exaggeration, but still!

Suggestions? Um... Does your library have AC? If so, next time you go there, spend as much time as possible there. Instead of just choosing books and going home, read large sections of your books there.

I've lived in Texas for a little more than a month. It was in the winter so it wasn't hot. It snowed once on the night of the eclipse. It melted when it touched something. So all you saw was dandruff floating down and then disappearing whenever it touched something. I was in El Paso, Texas. Living in a small apartment (messy) with my two sisters, mom, and dad. We were there because mom had to work somewhere.
